“Caught you both red-handed,”he growled angrily.
“Mac this isnt what it looks like,” I cried running towards him.
“St©p Patty!” he shook his head. “I knew it.”
What the hell?
“Actually Mac,” I gr@bb£d his arm and shook it. “You’re the one who’s nee-d to do some explaining to me. You haven’t been answering my calls for two days. I was worried!”
“In my defense I was only trying to make her uh feel better,” Hunter added followed by a nervous chuckle.
Mac leaned forward whispering into my ear. “Not in front of him.”
I sighed and nodded my head. “Hunter i’ll see you later.”
“Sure,” he coughed and pretended to get back into his car.
“My mom wasn’t well,” Mac told me. “So I was at home taking care of her.”
I ca-ressed his arm softly. “You should have told me. I would have come to help.”
“I didn’t want to upset you,” he looked down and I hvgged him ti-ghtly.
“Next time just let me know Mac,” i whispered burying my head into his shoulder.
His warm arms wra-pped me ma-king me feel safe and loved once more.
“I promise I will,” he said and k!$$£d my temple.

“Why didn’t you ask him about his Dad?” Hunter complained as we walked me home after school. Mac had to rush home again to take care of his mother.
He didn’t let me come even after me insisting that I wanted to. So unfortunately I ended up going with him.
“I don’t think it was the right time to,” I scoffed punching him in the shoulder.
“St©p abusing me,” he screamed ru-bbing his shoulder.
Shaking my head, I let out a laugh. “It was such a weird day huh.”
“Yeah,” he mumbled digging his hands into his pocket. There was a long pause and silence except the sound of sneakers against the ground.
Our hands accidentally brushed against each other and i quic-kly pu-ll-ed it away. My b©dy felt electrocuted and my hair stood on its ends.
“Relax Flabby,” Hunter laughed patting my head. I snorted, but flashed a smile at him.
For some reason I couldn’t hate him anymore. I don’t know why, but he wasn’t as bad as I thought.
“Like what you see?” Hunter sm-irked lifting his shi-t, revea-ling his abs.
“OMYGOD St©p YOU PERV!” I yelled turning my head away abruptly.
His laugh was loud and irritating. “I am only teasing.”
“Well st©p,” I glared at him hoping the distance to my house would end soon.
“Patty,” Hunter st©pped and pu-ll-ed my arm ma-king me halt as well. His eyes pierced throu-gh mine and my veins started throbbing insanely fast. “Do you love him?”
“Who?” I stammered, taking a hvge gulp. Why was he ma-king me so nervous?
“Mackenzie,” his expression and stare were so serious and intense. He squinted his eyes just like he always did.
And no doubt he was cute but Mac was the one I liked. Hunter was the as-s-hole who made my life miserable.
“Maybe,” I shrugged. But I didn’t. Or did I? This was so confusing. “plea-se don’t ask me questions I can’t answer Hunter.”
“Then let me ask you one that you can,” he bit his lower l!pand glanced down to his shoes then back at me again. “Will you go to prom with me?”
I was stunned. If this was a movie, I would have dramatically fainted and fell into his arms. But this wasn’t so I had to answer his awkward question. What the hell was he thinking?
“Are you serious?” I asked my voice sounding shaky.
“I am serious,” he nodded taking my hand and placing it over his che-st. His heart pumped ha-rd against his che-st and i could feel it throu-gh my f!ngers. It was racing. His heart was racing.
Looking up at him, I noticed his cheeks were turning pink.
“Hunter..” I choked on my own words. My tummy turned into knots and twists as my heart pumped against my ribs trying to bur-st out.
The way his eyelids fluttered with a gloomy face, like he was sure I was going to say no. “You know I am with Mac right?”
He squee-zed my hand still on his che-st. I didn’t have the strength in me to pu-ll away from. “Does his heart beat as fast as mine when you t©uçh him?”
“B-But..”
He cut me off. “Does he drive you insane when he’s around you like I do?”
“HUNTER!”
He didn’t st©p as his gaze fell upon myl-ips and back to my eyes. “Does he make you hate him so much because you’re afraid of falling in love with him?”
That was it, I shoved him pu-lling my hand away but his strong arms gr@bb£d me again by my shoulders.
He squee-zed my b©dy against his che-st leaning into my side, brushing hisl-ips against my n£¢k. My b©dy stiffened and I couldn’t breathe or even move.
“Hunter..” I repeated. “plea-se.”
It felt like I was cheating on Mac. Mac was my knight in shining armour, he had made me feel loved when no one else did. Why now? Why would Hunter say cra-p now?
“Patty,” he whispered softly into my ear. His breath felt warm and tingly against my skin. “Don’t go with him plea-se.”
Lightly, I pushed him away looking up at his face. His hair fell so perfectly over his forehead.
The expression on his face remained intense and pas-sionate. “Why now? Why ask me now? After I got Mackenzie.”
He let out a sarcastic laugh and shook his head. l!çk!ng his lowerl-ip, he let go of me. “Lets just forget about it.”
“But Hunter I want to..” he cut me off by raising his hand.
“Lets just get you home safe,” he said firmly and during the rest of the walk home no word was said. Hunter didn’t even look at me.
It was tormenting for him to treat me like that. He was as mysterious as Mackenzie to me.
I eyed him suspiciously. There was something he knew that he was hiding too. They both nee-ded to provide me with answers and i was going to get it out of them even if it was the last thing i do.

Episode 16

My feet ached like hell from walking all the way home. I had invited Hunter inside but he had refused and without another word he walked away.
Mom was home and she greeted me with a hvg when I walked in. “What’s in that bag?”
“Oh, its just a dress that Hunter bought me for prom,” I mumbled plopping down on the couch in the living room.
“Its beautiful,” mum’ eyes wi-de-ned as she held the dress up to get a better look at it. “Seems expensive.”
“It doesn’t matter mom because I am not going with him,” I replied placing my legs on the table in front.
“Who are you going with?” She asked.
“Mackenzie.”
“You haven’t brou-ght him home,” she sat down next to me. “You keep telling me he’s the guy you’re d@t!ngbut never let me meet him.”
“Maybe on Prom night mom,” I sighed resting back my head on the couch.
“What’s wrong sweetie?” Mum t©uçhed my forehead. “You seem pale.”
“I dunno what to do Mom,” i held back the tears in my eyes. “I am so confused.”
She smiled warmly. “Well the best way to get out of a dilemma is to listen to your heart and not your head.”

I got into be-d that night, thinking about the whole day. Mac, Hunter. Hunter, Mac.
Listen to your heart mom had said. But it was not easy.
I heard a tapping sound on my window which scared me out of my wits. Slowly, I got out of be-d to see Mac waiting for me. Opening the window, I let him in.
“Its a chilly night,” he said ru-bbing his hands together.
My heart ached. I liked Mac, I really did but I couldn’t be sure about him unless I got some answers from him.
“What’s wrong baby?” he cooed tou-ching my shoulders.
I shook my head and sat down on the corner of my be-d, Mac followed
“Can I ask you a personal question?” I clasped my hands over my l@p not looking at him.
“Ofcourse Patty,” I felt his arm wra-p around my shoulder as he pu-ll-ed me close to him, k!ss!ngthe side of my head. Why did my heart doubt him?
“Why did your mom and dad get divorced Mac?” I still didn’t look at him as I spoke.
“Why are you asking me that?” He let go of me and turned my face towards him.
“I know about your Dad,” I replied.
His face fell and went completely pale. “What do you mean?”
“I know you lied to me, Mac,” I cried. “Why would you lie?”
“I didn’t want you to feel sorry for me,” he said firmly.
“Feel sorry?”
“I mean isn’t that what happens when you tell people your father is dead,” he clenched his fist.
“So you feel sorry for me?” I got to my feet. “Is that why you’re d@t!ngme?”
“Don’t be ridiculous Patty,” he rolled his eyes getting on his feet too. “I am d@t!ngyou because I like you.”
“But you didn’t trust me enough to tell me the truth,” I backed away from him. I wanted to bur-st out crying but I wasn’t going to act vulnerable in front of him.
“I am sorry Patty,” he lowered his head. “But don’t you think you’re ma-king this a big deal?”
“It is a big deal!”
“How?!”
“You lied to me that your father died in a fire,” I cried. “That’s why you moved here.”
“Fine,” he dug his hands in his pocket. “I kept that from you. But that’s the only thing I hid from you.”
“And your mom?”
“She really is sick Patty,” Mac’s voice got shaky like he was about to cry. “She has cancer.”
I felt so selfish for acting the way I had been. “And again you didn’t trust me enough to tell me!”
“Oh my God Patty,” his voice shook. “Why are you picking a fight with me?”
Was I?
“I AM NOT!”
“You’re only looking for an excuse to break up with me,” he bit his l!ptrying ha-rd to hold back his tears.
“I am not,” I muttered softly. “That’s not what I am doing.”
“You’re a terrible liar Patty,” Mac growled gr-abbing my arm. “How stupid do you think I am?”
I blinked. “What are you talking about?”
“You’re trotting around with Hunter all the time,” he let out a sarcastic laugh. “Suddenly you start doubting me after you and him seemingly bec@m£ friends.
And you seemed to forget that I was the one who liked you first. I gave you love and attention. Why would you choose him over me?”
“You’re over thinking Mac,” I whispered tou-ching his cheek. He really was. I didn’t like Hunter. My heart ached for Mac and not him.
“You’re not wearing the ring I gave you,” Mac said looking at my hands.
“I-I lost it,” I lied. If i told him the truth he would definitely break up with me.
He sighed shaking his head. “No worries. I can get you a new one.”
“No,” I blurted out. “You don’t have to.”
“But I want to Patty. I want to prove it to you that my feelings are true,” he pushed my hair out of my face and leaned in. Sparks flew across the room as I felt his warml-ips on mine. He sat on the edge of my be-d, pu-lling me over his l@p.
His soft hand trailed up my back pu-lling me closer to him. Breaking the k!ss, he rested his forehead on mine. “Patty,” he breathed. “I love you.”
And there was that moment again where I nee-ded it to be a movie so i could faint and get away from answering that.
My eyes got big as I stared at him with my mouth hanging open. I didn’t know what to say. My heart said I love you too but my mouth was broken.
“Say something,” he whispered with a worried look on his face as he pu-ll-ed away.
Myl-ips, my ton-gue were broken. I couldn’t utter a single word. And that’s when I knew. I knew why i couldn’t answer him.
“Patty,” his voice got shaky again and he ru-bbe-d my shoulders. “You’re scaring me.”
I got off his l@p and covered my face with my hands. This was so fv¢ked up. My mind was all over the place because I had finally figured it out.
I was in love with Hunter.
