The close glare between Vicker and Benji in the silence voluminous living room was like the one between two fowls about to initiate a fight. Grace rolled her eyes again with a heavy exhalation.
“Arguing and fighting won’t solve our problems neither the one that has fallen the city.” She broke the silence.
“The city depends on us for cure. Let’s not do this.” Mrs Rose spoke like a mother.
Mark stood up. “The city sees us as the enemy now. So I object on that.”
Everywhere bec@m£ quiet once again, while Cas-sandra resumed her locomotion throu-gh the staircase that had her footsteps fill the room once more. Vicker turned away from Benji that moment to speak to all.
“We must achieve what I want to be achieved in this house. No where else.”
“What is it that you want to achieve!? I believe this Alice knows how to use the coordinate. Why don’t we give it to her to produce the vaccine or better still hand it over to the government.” Benji retaliated.
He turned to him. “Over my dead b©dy will i allow the formula get back to Alice or anyone else. Bringing her down and producing the cure to the disease is what I want to achieve.”
“And what follows after that?”
Vicker bec@m£ mute.
“What you’re about to do is not possible. Nob©dy is a scientist here.” Benji substantiated.
“Then you must become one overnight!” Vicker looked at everyone. “I’m not forcing anyb©dy to comply with me. If you think you’re not okay here, take a leave.”
There was a continuous eye contact among everyone. Constant electrical energy throu-gh a light bulb made it visible in the room. Apparently, Benji had turned to Ned who was sitting with his crush, Julianne. “Let’s leave, Ned. We don’t know this guy’s true intentions.” he whispered as all stared at them.
“Benji, it’s dangerous out there. We have no choice.” Ned replied.
The young man bec@m£ weak. Truly he had no choice but to remain in that house. Hence he must comply with everything happening there. After a stretch of time, Vicker said, pointing at Julianne, Benji and Sandra, “Obs£nce of objection, four of us will make the journey now.”
“No.” Ned objected, standing up. “Julianne should stay let me go.” he glanced at her.
“I disagree.” Vicker insisted. “You nee-d to stay and help Mark to protect others here.”
“I don’t want her…”
“Hey” Julianne interrupted him as she placed a hand on his stomach. “I’ll be fine.” she added calmly then looked at Vicker. “Let’s go.” she concluded, picking up her gun.
The four individuals set to leave that night. Before Vicker used the door, Grace did not only rush him but k!$$£d him too. “Come back to me safe” she whispered to him.
Cas-sandra and Sandra couldn’t control the jealousy in their hearts. Nevertheless, Vicker went out without saying a word. He handled the steering wheel with Sandra sitting beside him. Benji and Julianne occu-pied the back seat. Aminu never hesitated to open the gate for them, so they drove out to the darkness.
He returned to the living room like one escaping from rain. He gazed at the remaining people in the house.
“Letting those people to the darkness is very dangerful oh!” he said, breathing hastily.
Grace smiled at his word even Mark who hilariously added, “Vicker alone is dangerful too, so when you put all of them together, they are dangerfulity.”
“Really?”
“Yes.”
Grace finally let out the laugh. “Don’t mind him, Aminu. It’s dangerous not dangerful.”
“Are we having dinner tonight or what?” Mark looked at the women in the house…..

The headlight of the car shone at victims with the disease. They were roaming around the road like zombies. Immediately they saw the car coming, they began to run towards it. They followed it till it st©pped at the gate of the city university. They were actually heading to the school laboratory for the elements. But now they’ve been clvstered at the gate by the victims, what would they do? Julianne could see them throu-gh the car glas-s, gro-an ing hungrily for blood. Her heart skipped. Benji noticed it.
“Calm down.” he whispered to her. “Ned must see you again.”
She didn’t say anything, wondering what he meant by that.
“What are we gonna do now?” Sandra asked.
“On no account must you allow any of them to come in contact with your b©dy.” Vicker began. “I’ll drive into the school premises with a high speed in order to give them some distance then we come out and hurry to the laboratory. un-derstood?”
Nob©dy said a word which he took as their ‘yes’ then sped into the premises, giving the victims a distance. He st©pped at the entrance of the lab.
“Out now!’ he commanded.
They hurriedly c@m£ out, running towards the entrance. Unfortunately, Julianne fell down, watching as the vampires were trooping towards her. She tried to stand up but fell down again out of tension.
“Benji, help me!” she cried out loud.
Ben turned back to help her while Vicker and Sandra had pas-sed throu-gh the door, urging them to hurry up!
Benji opened fire on the vampires before they could come closer, using a hand to drag Julianne up. “Run!” he commanded her, still shooting at them. He targeted their foreheads where blood splashed continuously.
“Hurry!” Julianne also helped from the door. Speedily, Benji met them and they locked the door instantly before the vampires arrived, ban-ging on the door.
All stood behind the door, roaming their eyes at every corner of the lab. They could see burs£n burner, burrette, rhesus-stand and many other chemicals. Vicker stepped inside with the list to re-ad their items aloud. Surprisingly, Sandra met him. “Hey” she tapped him. Immediately Vicker raised his head up, she sl@pped him ha-rd ly.
“Whoa!” Benji exclaimed, while Julianne held her cheek as if she could feel the pains.
Vicker glared. “Sandra, what was that for?”
“For that girl, Grace, k!ss!ngyou in front of me.”
“Are you out of your mind?!”
“You took my vir-ginity and you are asking if I’m out of my mind?!”
“Listen Sandra,” Vicker stepped closer to her, while the two other persons enjoyed the show. “I did what I did to get what I wanted. It wasn’t done out of feelings.”
Bemused, Sandra stepped back and aimed her gun at Vicker. “You leave me no choice then.” She placed her f!nger on the trigger……

Back home, Grace and Cas-sandra could be seen in the kitchen, preparing dinner. They had the same height and complexion. As Grace was cutting a garbage, she said, “I learnt that you saved his life.”
“You mean Vicker?” Cas-sandra wanted to know without looking at her.
“Yes”
“Yes, I did.”
Grace suspended the activity, looking at her. That prompted Cas-sandra to also return the look, feeling her heartbeat.
“What?” she broke the silence.
“I just want to thank you. Vicker and I have come a long way…” Grace elaborated but was cut off by Cas-sandra.
‘It’s fine.” she resumed washing her plates trying to withstand the jealousy.
On the other hand, Ned and Mark kept vigilant. Both were at a window with their guns while Mrs Rose mourned her husband at a corner. At another window was the gatekeeper too.
“Tell me the truth, man” Ned beckoned on Mark’s attention. “There is an interior motive why Vicker is doing this. He doesn’t want to tell us. True or false?”
Mark glanced at him. “I wouldn’t say true neither would I say false. But bear in mind that whatever interior motive he has is for good.”
Ned suspected him and Vicker…..

“Hey, hey, hey” Benji shouted walking towards Sandra and Vicker.
“Don’t fv¢king come closer to me.” Sandra also aimed the gun at him which pinned him at a sp©t before she directed it back to Vicker.
“Sandra, you’re acting stupid” Julianne began calmly. “Whatever he has done to you, it doesn’t worth taking his life. We, women have pas-sed throu-gh a lot and has the strength not only to withstand it but also to move on. So plea-se, bring down the gun.”
Sandra never knew when the lady c@m£ to her, taking down her hand slowly. In the process, Julianne saw tears rolling from her eyes. The lab experienced an absolute silence except the gro-an ing of the vampires outside.
After letting down the gun, Sandra said with bitterness, “If I see Grace around you again, I’ll kill her.”
Vicker said nothing rather resumed picking up the items with a bag. Anyone he picked up, he’d re-ad out the tag aloud.
“Scandium, palladium, Rihodium, cadmium…”
They were set to leave the lab only to discover that the vampires had surrounded not only their car but also the entrance.
“What do we do now?” Benji asked.
“We move.” Vicker replied.
“Are you okay? Alright, you first.” he stepped away for him but fear never let Vicker move.
“We’re obviously tra-pped.” Julianne concluded…..

Truly they were tra-pped inside the lab at the ungodly hour of the night. All looked at Vicker for an option since he was the leader.
“There must be a back door. Someone nee-ds to distract them.” he quic-kly left them in search of another door, but st©pped to see others staring at him. “What? You guys should help me search for another exit and you’re looking at me.” he requested.
Sandra followed suit, leaving Benji and Julianne behind. The young reporter looked at Benji with fear and eyes full of tears.
“I’m so scared to die this way. I’ve not even heard from my family if they’re okay. How can someone bring this disease to the city? I don’t even know if we are with the good or bad guys.”
Benji pu-ll-ed her to himself. “I promise you that nothing will happen to you, not until Ned sees you again.”
The lady looked up at him. “What do you mean by that?”
“It’s..”
“I’ve found an exit!” Sandra’s voice interrupted them. Hastily they met the rest.
“Who will distract them away from our car?” Julianne asked. There was a moment tranquillity among them until Sandra replied saying, “I will.’
“No” Vicker objected. “I will go.”
“I said I will. I insist.”
“Alright.” he accepted as an afterthought. “When you distract them, run towards the gate where we shall be waiting for you with the car.”
Sandra nodded.
“Stay safe.” Julianne hvgged her before they dep@rted.
Sandra walked throu-gh the darkness of the exit like a rodent throu-gh a hole. She c@m£ out to see the hungry vampires from afar. She began to wave her hands, shouting, “Hey, see me here!!”
The speed in which the vampires attacked her got her heart pounding. Therefore she bagan to run towards the gate as instructed, shooting at them in the process. “Vicker, hurry!!” she cried.
First, the car engine kicked off followed by the headlight before the speedily rotation of the back tyres. As they were running towards the gate to meet Sandra, Benji and Julianne, throu-gh the window, opened fire on them too. Vicker matched the br@ke immediately he got to Sandra.
“Get in!’ he urged.
Sandra ran across the car as others wined up their glas-ses. Before the vampires could get to them, they had sped away throu-gh the school gate.
“Yes, we did it!” Sandra exclaimed happily, while Vicker smiled like others at the back seat.

Aminu heard the horn of the car from inside then rushed outside to open the gate. Sooner did all walk inside the living room like welcomed travellers. Ned cornered Julianne immediately.
“How are you? Hope you’re fine.”
‘Yes, thanks.” she gazed at him, surprisingly saw hisl-ips coming in contact to hers. Steadily, he k!$$£d her. Only then did she un-derstand Benji’s statement.
On the same atmosphere, Grace rushed to welcome Vicker but the young man glanced at Sandra and walked away to another direction saying, “Everything we nee-d is here! We shall begin work as soon as possible.”
Grace felt embarras-sed.
“As soon as possible? No sleep?” Aminu asked.
Vicker looked at others to see them concurring to Aminu’s question.
“Fine, we shall sleep then begin early tomorrow.” he said.
“There’s food.” Cas-sandra announced.
“I’ll be at the boys quarter. Everyone should be at alert. Sleep with an eye close and keep the other one open.” he began to walk out to the boys quarter followed by Mark.
Others had no choice but to dine. All circulated the dining table, eating the food silently like the last supper. Mrs Rose refused to eat her food. Suddenly, Grace stood up to the kitchen and c@m£ out with two plates of food.
“Where to?” Sandra asked her unabashedly.
“To give the boys at the boys-quarter food.” she replied.
“Let me do that.” Julianne volunteered to avoid problem coz she had a clue of what was going on between the three girls.
Like a statue, Grace stood until the plates left her hands to Julianne’s. All watched her leave the room, while Grace sat down.
Getting to the door of the boys quarter, Julianne listened to Mark and Vicker’s conversation.
Vicker stood at the window, spacing into the dark sky with twi-nkle stars. On a chair found in the room was Mark, seated with legs crossed.
‘Vicker, are you sure you’ll achieve this? I mean using the current crises to become the governor of the state?”
“Yes, with the cure or vaccine to the disease, I can become anything” he turned from the window. “First, we eliminate the governor by inviting him here, so that we’ll have easy access.”
“What about Alice?”
“She doesn’t bother me. Achieving this goal is my priority.”
Just then, Julianne entered with the plates which she kept on the table. The two men watched her silently until she began to leave. Just at the door, Vicker called her attention. She turned.
“How long were you at the door before coming in?” he seriously asked her.
“I don’t un-derstand the question.” she pretended.
Quietness stretched inside the room.
“Call Grace for me.” Vicker broke it.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea.” Julianne refused.
Angry, Vicker wanted to confront her, but Mark stood up in between them instantly. He gestured at Julianne to leave which she did without hesitation.
“Let her go, man. I know you love Grace but If you wanna achieve your goal, you have to put those women aside for now.” Mark advised him like a father.

Julianne met Ned and Benji inside a room where they were freshing up. She stood at the door to see Ned shi-tless then admired his hairy che-st.
“What brou-ght you, Julie?” Benji asked him.
“I overheard Vicker and his friend.” she swallowed ha-rd . “They want to kill the governor, use the power of the cure to take his seat.”
The two men looked at each other.
“He’s stupid and greedy. We must not allow that happen.” Ned suggested.
Benji shook his head pitifully for Vicker. He hissed then sat down on the edge of the be-d. “Don’t mention this to anyb©dy. I’ll kill him myself.” he concluded.

THE NEXT MORNING.
Grace was inside a mini lab with Henry, Williams son, on video call, trying to achieve a positive result. Alre-ady, Vicker and Mark had come back to the living room to keep watch. Suddenly, a voice come from outside throu-gh megaphone.
“This is the Police, Vicker we know you’re in there with your men. The government nee-ds the formula. Bring it out or we attack you!”
Meanwhile, Policemen had surrounding the building throu-gh the fence. Everyb©dy in the building steered up fearfully by the voice. Even Grace c@m£ out from the mini lab. However, all had taken a position at several windows to retaliate, waiting for Vickers command.

“This is the last warning; come out with the formula!” the voice said again throu-gh the megaphone.
Vicker ran upstairs to the balcony where he saw the police and their vehicles. “We alre-ady have a cure to the disease brou-ght upon us by Alice! I won’t re-lease it until I see the governor in this house!” his voice was heard by all even at downstairs.
Hearing that, Ned and Benji gestured at each other. Benji ran upstairs with his gun.
“Where the fv¢k are you going to!” Mark turned from his window to see Julianne and Ned aiming their guns at him.
“What is going on?” Mrs Rose asked.
Nob©dy answered her. All heard footsteps from the staircase only to look to see Benji following Vicker from behind at gun point.
“They want to kill the governor and take his seat using the power of the cure. Julie overheard them” Ned finally replied the woman.
Seeing all that, Sandra aimed her gun at Benji. “I’ll shoot you before you kill him.” she said.
“I’ll shoot you too if you do.” Julianne aimed her gun at her.
Only the gatekeeper, Grace, Cas-sandra and Mrs Rose bec@m£ dumb without knowing what to do.
“Three of you are ma-king a mistake.” Vicker said.
“No, you are.” Benji challenged. “You’ll walk out there and give the police what they want.”
“Over my dead b©dy.” Vicker swore.
The room remained quiet. Benji open fire on Julianne, while Ned sh0t him dead instantly. Benji sh0t Vicker on the head too. Blood splashed, but was sh0t by Sandra also who dropped her gun surprisingly.
Alre-ady, other women had been screaming their voice out!
Ned didn’t care anymore, he rushed Julianne on the floor, gushing out blood from her mouth.
“Julie, stay with me, plea-se.”
The young lady kept looking at him until she gave up the ghost. Ned cried in a loud voice.
Grace and Cas-sandra also cried beside Vicker’s corpes while Aminu folded himself at a corner with hands covering his ears. Sandra just stood motionless, shedding tears too. Truly there was redum at home.
The police barged in at that moment then took control of every other thing. They collected the formula, produced the cure to the disease then arrested Alice who later died in jail.
Days later, Grace was still mourning Vicker when her mother c@m£. She sat with her on the cushion.
“Greed and bad lifestyle killed Vicker. St©p crying my daughter.” She said, patting her back.
