?Chapter Fourteen ?

~We don’t meet people by accident. They are meant to cross our part for a reason…~

?NAOMI?

“I keep telling you this and i will keep saying it until you listen, Ace needs to know the truth.” Lilian said.

Naomi let out a de-ep breath as she handed over a glas-sof water to Lilian. “You don’t get it, Lilian, do you? It’s my son we are talking about here.”

“A son who enjoys watching his mother suffer? Oh come on, Naomi.” She gro-aned.

Naomi sat down on the couch opposite from her friend, Lilian. “He doesn’t enjoy seeing me cry.” She said, avoiding eye contact with Lilian.

“oh, really.”

Naomi sighed again before looking up at her friend. “He’s in so much pain.” She whispered quietly.

“I know but you are in a even more bigger pain than he is.” Lilian stood up to her feet and went to sit down at the empty spot beside Naomi. “You lost your husband, and thankfully you didn’t lose your son but let’s face reality…” She paused. “You also lost a son that night. It might not be physically but it was mentally.”

Lilian was damn right. Her son might still be alive but still it felt as though she lost both her husband and son. The truth scared the hell out of her.

She loves her son so much and she’s ready to do anything goddamn thing for him regardless of what it may be. He wasn’t making things easy for her.

He hates her.

He despise her.

He even went as far as suspecting her to be his father’s murderer. Why will she even do that to her husband? The man she very much loves and adore?

Yes, they had misunderstandings in the past. It was normal for a couple to have misunderstandings one or two times in their lives but that doesn’t mean they hate each other or result into killing the other. No. It rather make their love grow stronger.

According to Ace, she hated her husband before he took his last breath which was a lie. She never hated him. Never.

She loves her husband so much. That’s one reason she refused to get married to another man. The thought of marrying another man that wasn’t her last husband scares her. And it make her feel like she’s cheating on him with another man.

“Ace loves his father so much. And losing him was like a blow big to him on the face. His father was like his superhero, his best friend, his best buddy, his everything. He adores him.” She sniffed. She was at the verge of crying. In fact she was already crying. “He always wanted to be like him when he grows up to become a man,” She paused, as she reminisce on that one memory she can never forget. “He loves me too and always promised to protect me alongside his father. He said he will not tell anything bad happen to me and that men are meant to protect the people they love. I was one of those people he…loved.” She said sadly. “But everything changed as soon as my husband died.” She smiled throu-ghher tears. “I lost my husband and I lost my lovely son. But still, I don’t hate the son I have right now. I don’t hate my son. He might be treating me badly, he might hate me, he might wish me death but he’s still my son.” She paused again. “It’s better this way than the other way round, you know?”

Lilian wrapped her arms around her friend’s shoulder and pulled her closer to her side. “I’m sorry.”

“Why are you apologizing?”

“I should never have said those words to you about Ace.” She patted Naomi’s head gently, “He just a broken guy with a messed up life and memory.”

“Hmm. I don’t know what that monster had done to him that night. He is so messed up.” Naomi cried bitterly.

“I know. But i hope everything go back to normal.” She pulls out of the hug. “Have you given him the doc-ument now?” She asked now.

“Yes. I gave it to him this morning. I hope he reads it.” She said. Naomi had told Lilian about the doc-ument but she didn’t tell her what it contains and Lilian on the other hand didn’t even ask her neither did she push it. Because if Naomi wanted her to know about the content of the doc-ument she would’ve told her but since she didn’t tell her then it wasn’t relevant or it wasn’t something that concerns her.

She loves her best friend so much. She was willing to stand by for Naomi when she needs her. She don’t want to be far away when she would call out to her for help or companionship.

?PAULO?

“Hey, man.” He gives his coworker a handshake as they both did the men hug, patting each other on the back then stepping out of the hug. “Who is this client?” He asked, looking around.

“She waited for a pretty long time for you to come but you were taking too long so she decided to leave and return back tomorrow.” He stated. “Meanwhile, she asked me to give you this doc-ument. She said you should call her when you receive the doc-ument.”

Paulo nodded his head as he collected the doc-ument from his coworker and glance throu-ghthe doc-ument without practically reading it, he shut it close and turned to leave but his coworker, Liam caught hold of his wrist.

“You are still looking into that investigation?” He asked.

“Why do you ask?” Paulo asked, string directly at him. He had no expression or emotions on his face.

“You know it’s over five years or so that man died, if you are still investigating, I’d advice you to stop.”

“Why do you even care? You all dropped the case for a reason I don’t know so why is it a problem if I keep searching?”

“It’s a problem when the boss is not in support.” Liam pointed out. Paulo was his closet coworker and he cares about him so much. But one thing was for sure this case would cause a whole lot of problem for Paulo if he keeps looking for answers _He knows that for sure_

“And have you ever asked yourself why? Why did the boss suddenly decide to drop the case? huh?”

“There was no witness for that case, Paul.”

“There was. Mrs Naomi Reyes was a witness. She was present at that night.” Paulo shouldn’t be saying all this to Liam, because he was a third party and thirty parties shouldn’t be trusted but he just couldn’t stop himself from saying out his mind.

Liam furrowed his brows as he tried to process what Paul had just said. He suddenly began to shake his head in disagreement. “No.”

“No what?”

“It wasn’t a woman that was the witness.” He said.

“What are you saying?”

“I know what I’m saying, Paul. It wasn’t a woman but a child. A young child.”

Paulo shakes his head as his mouth dropped open. He was sure it was a woman _Ace mother to be precise_ She even admitted it herself so what was Liam saying?

“You don’t believe me? Than follow me.” Liam said as he began walking away towards the stairs. Paulo thought about following him or not but decided to go along with him. He needs to figure out the missing puzzle.

?CLAIRE?

“Heather, what about the princess?” Claire asked as she stepped inside the kitchen.

Heather dropped the dish she was washing and turned to face Claire. She quickly bowed her head in respect before saying, “She should be in her room.”

Claire shook her head. “No. She isn’t there. Haven’t you seen her around or something?”

“Um… No. I’ve been busy.”

“Busy with what? Don’t you know your duty is to the princess. And where are the other maids? why are you the one washing the dishes?” Claire asked in annoyance.

“They…They are also busy, ma’am. I will go check on the princess.” Heather quickly said. She was about to run out of the kitchen when Claire said.

“No need going to check her in her room or in her dance studio. She isn’t there. Which means…”

“…she should be at the beach.” Heather completed her sentence.

“Hurry and bring her home it’s not save for her out there.”

“Yes ma’am.” With that, Heather left.

Claire walked back into her room and picked up her phone before dialling a number. It rung for a while until it was finally answered.

“Yes?” A voice came out from the other line.

She shut her eyes close and took in few de-ep breaths. “I’ve made a decision.” She said.

?ACE?

“Are you okay?” He asked as she stood in front of him, her hands were flat on his ch-est. Her eyes were wide open and her mouth were hanging open. She looks so beautiful looking up at her this close.

Damn, what was he even thinking?

He quickly snapped out of his thought as he pulled her away from himself.

“Who are you?” She asked, slowly. Her brows were furrowed in total confusion. It was obvious she was expecting to be here alone.

“Just someone.” He replied her.

“Wait, that voice. Have we…meant before?”

How was he going to tell her yes and that he ran away as soon as he discovered she was blind? Or how was he going to tell her that he was just a broken guy who seem to always be at ease just by watching her dance?

He might not know much about blind people but what he do know was that, a blind person might not be able to recognize your face because they are blind but they will surely recognize your voice and scent.

“Maybe.” He shrugged.

“Are you sure you are not a killer or a kidnapper?” She was smiling now which shows that what she meant was a joke.

Ace almost laughed at the silly joke. Well, key word; *Almost.*

“Nope.” He said popping out the ‘p’

“What are you doing here, by the way?” Why was she just trying to create a conversation with him? Ace thought to himself. But funny enough, it felt so good talking to her.

He sighed. “To think. You?”

She shrugged. “Same.” She tried turning to look at the ocean but ended up turning to a different direction. Ace slowly wrapped his arms around her body and turned her towards the right direction. She quickly wriggled out of his touch and hold.

She was embarra-ssed of her predicament _He could tell_

“You don’t have to feel bad about yourself.” He find himself saying. wait, why did he just say that? It wasn’t any of his business and he wasn’t one to involve himself into someone’s business.

She gulped down nervously, tightening her hold around the stick. “I…” Her voice trailed off. “You know.” She breaths out.

“You are holding a stick.” He pointed out.

“You’re right. I’m stupid to have thought I can behave properly without being seen as a blind girl.” She said in a sad tone.

“Being blind doesn’t make you any less beautiful.” He said.

Gosh, this was all new to him. How can he be talking to her like this trying to talk her out of feeling ashame of herself, trying to make her feel better about herself, trying to repair her when he was broken beyond repairs?

This was all new to him. This was all strange. He has never felt this way or so concerned about someone before. What was this girl doing to him? Why the hell did he call her beautiful?

“Should I take that as a compliment?” She joked, smiling. Her eyes were still facing the waters.

“Well, I’m just stating the obvious.” He shrugged. “Honestly, I wouldn’t have known you were blind if I hadn’t seen you with a stick.”

“What do you mean?” She asked, confused.

“I’ve seen you dance right here every night.”

“What?”

“Uh… yeah? Hope you are not offended?”

“I…I thought I was alone with Jersey and that’s one reason I always danced at night so I won’t be spotted by anyone.” She said.

“Jersey?”

“My pet dog.” She explained. “I su-ck at dancing, don’t i? After all, I’m just a blind girl.”

Ace didn’t say anything but just stared at her beautiful face. She look so beautiful and calm. He don’t know why but he felt so at ease talking to her like this. Was it stupid if he said talking to this girl seem like the best thing that had ever happened to him since the day he lost his father?

Yes, he doesn’t know her too well but he felt like he knew her more than he even knows himself.

Crazy, right?

“Are you still there?” She questioned, moving her hand around to touch him, Ace quickly caught her outstretched hand and held it in his.

“Your dance is beautiful. It’s amazing. it’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.” He said in all honesty.

A smile slowly made its way to her li-ps as her eyes moved to him.

“Thank you.” She breaths out. “You are actually my first audience to watch me dance in this my predicament.” She said, still smiling.

“Nah, I wasn’t.”

“You weren’t the only one who watched me dance?” She questioned.

“Jersey was always here also to watch you dance.”

She laughs quietly. “You are the first person to ever make me feel this genuinely good about myself since I became blind.”

“You weren’t born blind?” He questioned slowly. She didn’t say anything. “Sorry. I Shouldn’t have said that.” HE JUST APOLOGIZED! Something he has never done before.

“No, it’s okay. Actually, no. It was an accident that rendered me blind.” She replied.

He didn’t even know he was still holding her hand until she pulled her hand away from his grasp and placed it in his face.

Her hand went up to his hair, a smile was playing at the side of her li-ps. “You have black hairs.”

“How do you know?” He asked, surprised.

She laughed. “I could detect. It’s isn’t very soft neither is it hard. It’s just normal.” Her hand moved down to his eyebrow, his eyes, his nose, his ear, his cheekbone, his jawline. She was exploring his face.

“What are you doing?” He asked.

“I might not be able to see you but i will still like to have some features of your face in my head so I can picture you in my head.” She answered, still exploring his face. “You must be handsome.” She grinned.

“You might be disappointed.”

“I don’t think I ever will.” She responded, bringing her hand down to her side. “You must be a businessman.”

“How did you know?”

“You sound so much like one.”

“Wow. You are very smart then.”

She laughed. “You aren’t the first telling me that.” She bluffed.

A comfortable silence fell between them. Only the sound of the waves filled their ears as neither of them said a word.

Ace was the first to break the ice. “Can I ask a question?”

“Yes?”

“What was the cause of your blindness? I mean, how did the accident happened?”
