Chapter 177&178

(A/N: SINCE THERE ARE TWO DIAMONDS AND IT WILL BE A BIT CONFUSING. I AM GOING TO REFER TO THE OTHER DIAMOND AS LOTTIE’S SISTER WHILE DIAMOND CHASE WILL STILL BE REFERRED TO BY HER NAME. THIS CHAPTER IS A BIT CONFUSING SO READ IT CAREFULLY!)

( RUN, DIAMOND. RUN )

«WAREHOUSE»

She heard the heavy sound of the giant door opening.

Diamond has been locked up in here since morning with no food or water. And now it was evening.

Lottie and Julius haven’t returned and that made her start thinking if they left her here alone and gone to some other place.

It was indeed a dumb thought being the fact that Lottie personally told her that she made a deal with Julius to save herself in exchange for her sister.

However, with the sound of the door opening, it seems like they were back now.

The place was a little bit dark and she wasn’t able to see their faces clearly until they stepped into the light that peeked throu-ghthe high window.

Indeed, it wasn’t Lottie with him this time around but someone else.

She was unconscious in Julius’ arms.

Diamond stood up to her feet, breathing hastily as she watched him drop the girl on the floor.

He looked at her and smirked before leaving the room without saying anything.

She moved her gaze back to the pitiful girl on the floor. Diamond had no right to pity anyone because she was looking more pitiful than this girl or any other homeless kid out there.

She walked to the girl and knelt by her side.

“Hey,” She tried waking her up but it was to no avail. “Diamond?” She called out, tapping the girl’s forearms.

“Oh, God. Is she dead? Did he kill her?” She panicked and started hitting the girl repeatedly.

“Ow,” A whine escaped the girl’s li-ps and Diamond stopped hitting her.

“Are you okay? Open your eyes.” Diamond urged, watching her closely.

The girl did as she was told and opened her eyes.

She slowly sat upright and take in her surroundings, her brows were pinched together as she was wondering where she was or how she even got there in the first place.

The last thing she remembers was getting a call from her little girl asking her to meet her at the amusement park. She remembers lying to her mother that she was going to a friend’s house because Lottie had her promise not to tell anyone including their parents that she was coming to see her.

She also remember arriving at the park… But that was the last thing she can remember.

Did she see her sister?

Where is this place?

“Diamond, are you there?” Diamond grabbed her attention.

Lottie’s sister look at the girl seated in front of her and immediately backed away, creating a distance between them.

“Who are you? How do you know my name?” She asked.

“I take it that you are fine.” Diamond forced a smile onto her face.

“What? No, I’m not fine. Where is this place? Why am I here? What happened to me? How do you know my name?” She asked all at once, trembling in fear.

“Listen, you have been kidnapped.” Diamond blurted out without sugarcoating it. It was the plain truth and the girl needs to know it.

Lottie’s sister’s eyes went wide at that revelation.

“Wha… What?”

“Your sister was once here before. She told me about you. And that is how I know your name.” She added.

“Wait, what did you say? My sister was locked up in here? Does that mean she was kidnapped also? Where is she?” She looked around in search of her sister. “Why is she not here? Did he kill her?”

“Diamond. I thought about not telling you this but it will be wrong to keep it away from you.” She paused to see if she had the girl’s attention and apparently, she does. “Your sister… Lottie… Are you both really related by blood?”

Lottie’s sister seemed taken aback by that question.

“What kind of a question is that?”

“I know it is a very dumb and stupid question but by the time I tell you something, you are going to understand why I asked such a ridiculous question.”

•••

Lottie’s sister had her back against the wall as she stared blankly at the wall.

Tears streamed down her face but she was doing everything possible to act strong. It was impossible to be strong at this point.

Diamond sat beside her, watching her carefully. She wasn’t crying however, she felt the pain and betrayal the girl was going throu-gh.

“Why will she do something like this to me?” She mumbled, filling her lungs with shaky breaths. “How could she hurt me this way?”

“With the times we spent together, I was able to detect one thing,” She paused. “Lottie hates you.”

“Say something else that will actually surprise me.”

“What do you mean?”

“You think I don’t know my sister hates me?” She scoffed. “Do you know how many evil things she has done to me? She has pushed me throu-ghthe stairs before, add dead bugs to my food, mixed my water with fuel to drink, hidden my books so I will get in trouble with the teachers, torn my birthday dress… I have gone to the emergency ward on different occasions because of my sister. But I still didn’t hate her. I love her regardless. And now…” She hesitated. “She did this to me. Again.”

“I’m sorry.”

She chuckled and glanced at Diamond with her reddened swollen eyes.

“Why are you apologizing? It is not your fault.”

“Do you still love her now? I mean, with what she has done now? Do you still not mind?” Diamond asked.

Lottie’s sister hesitated and then shrugged.

“She is my sister, right? How can I hate her? You know, if she had simply asked me to replace her here… I would have done it.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Stop apologizing.” She sniffled as she wiped off the tears on her face. “By the way, what is your name?”

“Diamond.”

“What?”

“I know, what a coincidence.”

They laughed.

“Yeah… How old are you?”

“Seven.”

“I’m eight.”

“Okay?”

“How long have you been here? And how did he kidnap you? Did someone lure you here just like my sister did?”

Diamond shook her head.

“No. Actually, I came here on my own accord. He didn’t force me. Or made me unconscious to bring me here.”

“What do you mean?”

Diamond told Lottie’s sister her whole story. From how her mother maltreated her down to how she ran away from home to the amusement park, found Julius and Lottie, and asked them to help her. She told her everything without even leaving the part about being a product of ra-pe.

For some reason, she felt comfortable telling her all these things.

“Oh, my God. I’m sorry you went throu-ghall that.”

“Why are you apologizing? It is not your fault.” Diamond said, using the girl’s exact words to her.

Lottie’s sister giggled and nodded her head.

“Right.”

«THREE WEEKS LATER ★ WAREHOUSE»

“Are you sure this is going to work?” Diamond asked.

“Yes… No… Okay, I don’t know. But we have to try. We are going to die if we remain here.” She stated.

“What if he catches us?”

“That is why we must not get caught. We get out of here and run as fast as our legs can take us. Don’t stop, Diamond. Even if I get caught. Don’t stop. Keep running until you find someone who will help you and then come back for me. You hear me?”

Diamond hesitated. “I don’t think I can leave you behind.”

“You have to. Because I will continue running if you get caught. So you have to do the same, I don’t want to look like a bad person.” She told her.

“Okay? I will try.”

“When he comes to do his usual routine, I will give you a signal when we run out of here, okay?”

Diamond nodded her head. “Okay.”

“Good girl.”

«ONE HOUR LATER»

Julius entered the room, holding a plate of the liver with blood.

Lottie’s sister glanced at the door and as usual, it was left ajar. He usually doesn’t close the door whenever he comes in to torture them.

She leaned towards Diamond and whispered. “You said you came here without being forced, right?”

“Yes.”

“Do you remember the way to the exit?”

“Yes.”

“Okay. You will be the one to lead us out of here. I don’t remember anything because I was brou-ght here unconscious.”

“I know.”

“What are you two saying over there?” Julius asked, interrupting them.

The girls were startled.

“What is going on over there?” He asked again, approaching them slowly.

“No… Nothing.” They answered in sync.

“Nothing?” He tilted his head to the side, having a dark look in his eyes. “I won’t do anything stupid if I were you.”

“What do you want with us?” Diamond was brave enough to ask.

“Nothing. I just want to have fun, that’s all.”

“By giving us raw liver with blood to eat? Giving us your urine to drink? Beating us to a stupor whenever we get to push you away? Is that what you call fun?” Diamond asked.

Julius cackled. “Are they not fun?”

“How can you call that Fun? Are you a psychopath?” Lottie’s sister asked.

“Psychopath?” He smirked. “Maybe.” He went back to the table and started cutting the raw liver into smaller pieces.

“Are you ready?”

Diamond bites her lower li-p. “Are you sure this is going to work? Shouldn’t we distract him first?”

“He is already distracted. Just run. Don’t stop regardless of what you hear, is that clear?”

“You talk as if you’ve done this before.”

“Yes, I have.” Diamond’s eyes wide-ned when Lottie’s sister admitted to that. “In games, though.” She added.

“Games?” Diamond laughed quietly. “You are silly! I thought you meant in real life.”

“Now is not the time to talk about these things. We have to get out of here now.”

“Give the signals then. I am still waiting.”

They both quietly stood up, watching Julius as they tiptoed towards the door. He seemed to be engrossed with the thing he was doing. Well, that was what the girls thought…

“Where are you going?” His dark voice came out and the girls let out a loud shriek, neither of them expecting it.

Their feet remained planted on the ground, both staring at Julius as he approaches them with an angry expression on his face.

“RUN.” Lottie’s sister yelled and they both ran out of the room.

“Get back here!” He yelled after them as he chased them from behind.

They turned different corners with no directions in mind.

“Where is the exit?” Lottie’s sister asked Diamond who was running in front of her.

“I… I think we’ve missed it. Oh, gosh.”

“Don’t stop running. Let’s hide.”

“Hide? How will that help us?”

“It won’t. But it will give us time to think. Hide over there, come on.”

The two girls entered an enormous bucket and covered it with its lid. Both hold their breath so they won’t get caught.

“Girls? Where are you? Come out wherever you are.” Julius sang as he looked around for them.

“This feels like we are in a movie,” Diamond mumbled and Lottie’s sister immediately clasped her hand over the girl’s mouth.

“Shush. You don’t want us to get caught, do you?”

“Angel, do not let that girl get you into trouble. I promise not to torture you if you come out from your hideout.”

They remained silent, hoping for a miracle. They have to get out of here. If Julius catches them, he would kill them for trying to escape, that’s certain.

“You can’t hide from me, girls. Wherever you are in the dark… I am coming for you.” He snarled, going close to the bucket where the girls were hiding in.

Julius leaned against the bucket, looking around in frustration and agitation.

Where are the girls?

They must be here somewhere. He just has to keep looking. Right?

His phone started ringing.

“Hello?” He answered the call, stepping away from the bucket.

They heard his receding footsteps but didn’t have enough courage to get out of their hiding spot.

What if he wants to trick them or something?

“Should we get out now?” Lottie’s sister asked, pulling her hand from Diamond’s mouth.

“Yes.”

Diamond pulled the lid of the bucket off and got out from the bucket and also helped Lottie’s sister out as well.

“Wait, I think the exit is over there. Come on.”

They both rushed to the exit and successfully stepped outside. To their dismay, all they saw around were trees and nothing else.

“What the hell? How are we going to figure out a way out of this place? Are we even still around our town or we are in some other town?” Lottie’s sister grumbled.

“Honestly, I can’t remember anything.”

“Why not? You weren’t forced here, right?”

“Lottie and I fell asleep on our way here.”

“Oh, no. What do we do?”

They suddenly heard Julius grunt and running footsteps nearing them.

“Let’s run. Maybe we might find someone on the way.” Diamond snatched Lottie’s sister’s hand and they both started running again.

Julius did not stop chasing after them.

“I swear I will kill you both if you don’t fuc-k ing stop!” He threatened.

Lottie’s sister hit her foot against a branch and fell on the floor with a loud thud.

Diamond who didn’t know of this continued running until she realized her hand which was holding the girl was free now.

She frowned and turned around to find her on the floor, grunting in pain.

“What are you doing? Run. Diamond, run. He is coming.”

“I… I can’t. My leg hurts.” She cried.

“I’m coming…”

“No, don’t come. Keep running. He will catch the both of us if you don’t run. Save yourself and don’t worry about me.”

“No, I am not leaving you behind.” Diamond cried.

“You have to. Don’t forget you promised to save yourself if I couldn’t make it. You can’t go back to your words. Go, please. But come back for me, okay?”

Diamond shook her head, sobbing quietly.

Julius was still far away from them but he was gradually reaching where they were.

“You know what, I will come back for you. Don’t go anywhere. I will look for help and come back. I promise.” Diamond run off afterward.

••••

Diamond stepped out into the road. How she got there, she doesn’t know. It was as if luck was on their side as she came across a moving vehicle.

“Help!” She jumped while waving her hands in the air. “Please help!”

The vehicle drove past her but stopped a few miles away. The driver came out and rushed to Diamond.

“Hey, are you alright?” He asked.

“Please help me. Help my friend. Someone wants to kill us.”

“What? Calm down, little girl. What is it?”

“My friend is over there. Her life is in danger. A man wants to kill us. Please save her.”

The stranger frowned. “Are you sure of what you are saying?”

“Yes. Please hurry up and save her before he catches her. Please.”

A woman got down from the vehicle and walked towards them.

“Honey, what is it?”

“She said her friend is somewhere in the bush and needs help.”

“Help?”

“Yeah… She said a man wants to kill them.” He told her.

“What are you waiting for then? Let’s go and save the child.”

“What if it is a prank?” The man reasoned.

“A prank? Look at the girl carefully, does she look like one who would play a prank? She looks so unkempt and one who has been tortured and locked up for days. I’m sure she’s telling the truth.”

“Okay. If you say so. Let’s go.”

They all entered the bush and Diamond led them to where she had left Lottie’s sister.

••••

On getting there, they found the spot empty.

There was nobody. No man. Or a girl who needs help.

Diamond’s heart skipped a beat as she feared that Julius has caught Diamond and taken her back to the warehouse.

“Diamond?” She called, looking around, crying.

“You see. I told you it was a prank.” The man said to the woman. “Child, where is your friend?”

“She… She was here when I left. Julius must have taken her back to the warehouse. He will kill her. I have to go back to her.”

“Psst!” They heard a sound from behind a huge tree. “Diamond… Over here.”

Diamond snapped her head in that direction and hurriedly went towards the tree. She knelt in front of her friend.

“Diamond, are you okay?” She asked.

Lottie’s sister nodded. “Yeah. I told you to run. Why did you come back?”

“I went to get help. There is no way I was going to leave you alone. What happened? Why are you here?”

“You don’t expect me to stay out in the open while waiting for you to show up with help, do you? Julius almost caught me but thank God I am as smart as my father.” She joked.

“Thank God you are okay.”

They embraced each other, smiling with sweat, dried blood, and dirt lingering on their body.

“I told you she was telling the truth.” The woman said to the man, smiling. “Come on girls, here isn’t save for you two. Let’s get out of here.”

As they all headed to the vehicle, Lottie’s sister whispered in Diamond’s ear.

“Why didn’t you think of escaping with Lottie before?”

Diamond shrugged. “We both never dared to. Honestly, I never wanted to leave before I thought staying there was no different from staying at home. But when you came around… I started having a change of mind.”

“Why?”

“Lottie hates you and has mistreated you but you still love and wish her well. In some ways, we are alike. My mother also mistreated me but when I look de-ep down at myself. I think I still love her.”

Lottie’s sister smiled and nodded her head. “You are right. We are kinda alike. Maybe our names have something to do with it.”

“What? That’s crazy.”

“I know.”

“Okay girls, we are going to take you over to our house in the meantime. Hope you both don’t mind?” The woman asked.

“No. Thank you.” The girls replied and entered the vehicle.

≈BACK TO THE PRESENT≈

«BASEMENT»

Diamond slowly opened her eyes, breathing heavily.

It was as if she was just coming back from a very long journey.

Her lost memories were back.

Diamond wiped the sweat off her forehead as she ran the tip of her tongue over her li-ps.

How long has she been unconscious?

Why does her head ache so much? She was still trying to understand what was going on but got interrupted by a voice from beside her.

“You are awake.”
