❣️Episode 34❣️

????Narrator’s pov????

•FLASHBACK•

“Is this the place you were bragging about?” He asked, taking in his environment.

Mia nodded her head smiling, dragging him along closer to the van.

“Wait, you do eat here all the time?” He asked, scrunching up his face.

Mia rolled her eyes at him, frowning. “Her corn dogs are the best, okay? Trust me if you take a bite of them, you will never remain the same.”

“I think you are right. I mean, how can i remain the same after eating from a roadside.” He shivered at the thought, shaking his head at the amount of people that were eating the corn dogs, making it look very delicious.

“Hey Mia, you are here!” The woman said warmly, smiling at Mia who smiled right back at her.

She must really be coming here to eat regularly:-) He thought to himself.

“Of course. I can’t live a day without eating your corn dogs.” Mia winked.

The woman laughed, handing two corn dogs to two kids as she talked to Mia.

“You practically didn’t come over yesterday..
so tell me, is it your ghost here now?” She raised a brow at her.

Mia scratched the nape of her neck, grinning sheepishly at being caught at her teasing.

She wasn’t surprise though. The woman has a way of making her feel this way, actually _She was the only one who does. Not even her parents were this close to her but at least they take very good care of her and that’s the most important thing in every family, right?_

Just then the woman’s gaze darted to James who have been giving the van of corn dogs a weird look and the people eating around.

It almost felt like he was about to puke right now.

“Your friend?” The woman asked Mia who quickly shook her head ‘no’ forbidding the thought of having a friend like James as if he was an unfortunate person who shouldn’t be hanged around with. “Then…”

“Just someone I need to buy lunch for as a form of apology.” Mia sighed.

“Apology? What did you do this time around, Mia?” The woman asked, folding her arms over her chest.

Mia shrugged, stuffing her hands into her pocket. “It’s…it was just a misunderstanding and trust me, it definitely wasn’t my fault.”

“Mhm.” The woman mumbled, doubtfully.

She knows Mia so well and she knows just what the kid was capable of.

Everyone in town are afraid of disrespecting her because they don’t want a black eyes from her or a broken nose.

Who find Mia, find hospital as well….

“But why is he looking around like…” The woman whacked James at the back of his head, earning his attention now.

“Ow!” He exclaimed, holding the back of his head while glaring. “What was that for?”

“Why were you looking around like that? What? Is this place so out of your league?”

“Obviously.” James mumbled under his breath still holding his head.

“What?” She turned to look at Mia. “Where did you get this pompous idiot from?”

“Pompous idiot?” James repeated.

Mia shrugged. “Like I said, it was an unfortunate encounter.” She turned to look at James who was staring right back at him. “If I were you, I would behave well in front of Ma’am Tessa unless you want to do the cleaning around.”

“What? Cleaning?”

“That’s it!” Tessa said, grabbing a brush from the corner and tossed it to James. “Sweep. Now.”

Mia smirked. “I warned you.”

“What did the doctor say?” Mia asked him as soon as he walked inside the ward.

James let out a de-ep frustrated sigh, running his fingers throu-ghhis hair. “He said she is stable now. She got into a shock but she’s fine now.”

“So why isn’t she waking up now?” Mia questioned, sobbing. “Why is she still asleep? Why is she still looking this pale? Why…” James wrapped his arms around her and pulled closer to his body, engulfing her into a warm embrace. “Please get her to wake up…my baby…” She sobbed uncontrollably, breaking down in James arms.

James never took his eyes off his daughter who still laid on the bed, unconscious.

A tear sli-pped off his eyes, running down to his face.

“She will be fine.” That was the only word that left his li-ps. It was the only word he could think of…the only a-ssuring word that all will be alright.

#Two Weeks Later.

????Alexis’s pov????

“It’s been two weeks now and there’s still no sign of her waking up.” Mia said calmly, dabbing Gwen’s face with the we-t towel. “I’m beginning to get very worried and scared.” She sniffled.

I stepped closer towards her, placing a palm on her back and stroked gently. “We shouldn’t lose our faith. I’m sure things will turn out to be fine.”

Mia nod her head, squeezing out the water from the towel and dabbed it over Gwen’s arms as if bathing her(Gwen).

“Let me help…” I offered but she refused politely, insisting that she took care of her child by herself.

Two weeks….and my brother wasn’t still back from the business trip with father,

Two weeks…and Gwen was still in coma, battling for her life,

Two weeks….and Rowan and I haven’t gone out on a proper date after Gwen’s incident,

Two weeks….and nothing has changed for the better.

I don’t even know what to do anymore…I was just tired, scared and worried.

Tired about the whole thing happening in my life,

Scared that my brother must be going throu-gha lot in the hands of my father,

And lastly, I’m worried that Gwendolyn wouldn’t survive this shit.

Can my life ever get better?

Damn, this was all my fault. I shouldn’t have avoided her…I should have stick to her like a glue…maybe that way she wouldn’t have ended up this way.

The door to the ward open and Cleo walked in with her mother trailing behind her.

“Ma’am,” She greeted Mia softly, sitting down beside me while her mother which I’ve grown to know sat down beside Mia.

“How are you, Cleo?” Mia asked her, forcing a smile to her face.

“I will be fine.” She answered. turning her gaze to look at me. “Hey.”

I smiled in return, looking over at her mother. “Good afternoon ma.”

She waved me off, smiling. “I’ve told you to stop greeting me like that… I’m not that old or am I?”

We all laughed at that joke of hers, except from Mia who was still dabbing Gwen’s pale body for the hundredth times…she hasn’t stopped for a spilt second since today.

Cleo mother let out a sigh, snatching the towel from Mia. “That’s enough.”

Mia shook her head vigorously trying to reach out for the towel again. “No. I need to bathe her well. She can’t wake up looking all sick and stinky.”

“She’s cleaned enough, Mia. Enough.” Cleo mother sighed. “You are hurting yourself and I’m sure Gwen wouldn’t want this.”

And just like that, she started sobbing over again. “My baby…I caused this. I shouldn’t have shipped her off like I did…I shouldn’t have turned my back against her…I should have at least tell her goodbye or better still, call her from time to time…I should have called just to tell her how much I love her and miss her…I shouldn’t have given her a reason of doubt for my love as a mother to her…” She fell to the ground sobbing very ha-rd while Cleo’s mother consoled her as she cried quietly as well.

Neither Cleo nor I could stop ourselves from crying as well…

This was all Fuc-ked up.

We all miss Gwen. We really do.

Cleo reached out to my hand and held it firmly, giving me the support that I truly needed.

I held her back, not taking my eyes off Gwen as more tears kept spilling off to my face, making it very difficult for me to see clearly.

“Come back, Gwen…we miss you.”

????Narrator’s pov????

“What are you doing, son?” Elena asked, staring at the couples who were gazing throu-ghGwen’s motorbike.

James rub his face, looking so unkempt and messy. “I’m selling it off.”

“Um, I can see that but why? Isn’t this motorbike very precious to her?” She questioned. “And wait, do you need money or something?”

“Mom, I don’t need money, okay? I have money already but,” He paused. “I can’t keep this here anymore.”

“Why?” She asked again.

“Mom, this bike caused Gwen’s accident. It was the reason of her problems now. I…God, Mia…she warned me about it but I just didn’t listen to her. I was so blinded by love that I forgot about my daughter’s safety.” He sat down on the floor, crying.

Elena stared at the couples who were staring at them now, giving James a very sad look.

“He isn’t selling…please leave.” Elena said to the couples.

“But..,” The man began but Elena cut his off immediately.

“I said LEAVE.” The couples quickly scurried away mumbling some words to themselves.

Elena looked down at her son and sat down beside him on the floor as she slung her arms around his neck.

He was still crying, resting his head on his mother’s chest.

Mia…he has never seen her cry like she did today.

Even when he left her, she didn’t cry until now…Until this morning and it was all his fault.

He made the love of his life cry and his daughter, his only happiness was still in coma because of him…

Maybe his parents were right after all, Mia and him should never be together.

He doesn’t deserve them…he doesn’t deserve to be called a father.

????Brenden’s pov????

“Thank you.” Dad shake hands with the foreigners, grinning from time to time.

And as for me…? I just sat there looking like a lost idiot.

I’ve thought of the reason dad brou-ght me along with him for this business trip and honestly,,, there was none.

Either I was a-ssisting his secretary who clearly doesn’t need an a-ssistant or I was being introduced to some foreign business men.

It was really frustrating.

I’ve been going on and on like this, struggling internally not to explode and strangle my father to death.

Fuc-k it, I was quite losing my patience actually.

Two weeks…and I’ve been locked up here in an unknown land, following my dad on his tail like a lost puppy,

Two weeks…and my mind, my head, my heart were still home in Brooklyn,

Two weeks…and I can’t still keep my head off Gwen, hoping for a good news when I get back home,

Two weeks…and I’m still wondering what it was exactly I felt for that tomboy who might not out to be g-ay eventually,

Two weeks…and my dad and I still fight like we were in tug of war,

Two weeks…and I’m still not able to face him and defend myself but yet, I get beaten up by him,

Two weeks….and not have changed for the better.

They smiled at him, darting their gazes to me who was very much not interested in this shit they find interest in and call business.

“So, Mr Brenden…” The younger woman called warmly but I rudely interrupted her.

“Just Brenden.”

“Excuse me?”

“There’s no need to be formal. Just call me Brenden.” I said throu-ghgritted teeth.

I could feel my father’s glare poking holes at the back of my skull…well, Fuc-k him.

She chuckles softly not looking a slight bit offended by my rudeness. “My son hates it when one is being formal to him as well,” She sighed. “So I definitely understand you.”

Dad chuckles as well. “I know right. Kids and their stubbornness…” It was obviously clear that the laughter were fake. Purely fake!

“Yeah right.” She straightened up her dress, picking her handbag from the floor. “You don’t have to force yourself to do what you don’t want, Brenden… Life is all about choices. Make your own choice by yourself.” She smiled, leaning closer towards me and whispered to my ears. “Do not let anyone decide your life for you. I’ve been there and trust me I wouldn’t be here right now if I had followed my mother’s decisions for me…” She placed her hand over my shoulders, squeezing it lightly. “Don’t worry, I’m rooting for you.” She winked before walking out of the room alongside her a-ssistant and business partners.

I can’t believe I’m saying this right now but damn, that woman is awesome.

Since I’ve been here I’ve never been this excited and fulfilled until now.

Damn, how did someone like father get a beautifully made woman like that as a partner?

I guess mom’s a-ssurance covered him and blinded people’s eyes from seeing the monster that he truly is.

As soon as the door was slammed shut. Dad asked his secretary to excuse us both.

She nodded her head calmly and walked out of the room, giving us the privacy that we needed.

Of course, the privacy to shred each other apart.

~Or more like the privacy to let your father beat you up. I still don’t get why you learned self-defense, wasn’t it to protect yourself from your enemies aka your father?~ My subconsciousness questioned.

BAM_ He punched me right on the face, knocking me off my feet.

“You ungrateful wretch,” He shrugged off his jacket, folding his white long sleeved shirt up to his elbow. “How dare you try to ruin things for me?” He grabbed me by the collar and brou-ght me up to my feet. “Not after all that I did for you, you piece of shit!” With that, he knocked me on the face with his head but his firm hold on my collar didn’t let me fall.

~Come on, hit him back…fight back…~ The voices in my head kept telling me but I just couldn’t move.

I couldn’t fight back…I felt trapped inside my younger self…the defenseless, scared, frustrated, powerless self. The kid who was trapped right inside that box that was too small for a human to fit in. The kid with no savior…But yet, kept screaming for help…no one did came but de-ep down he knew there was someone out there… someone whose hand was stretched forth towards him, willing and ready to pull him out of his misery….

Someone I don’t even know whether or not existed.

????Cleo’s pov????

I was arranging the flowers, taking down the dead ones and replacing it with new healthy ones.

Gwen might be unconscious but that doesn’t mean dead flowers have to surround her bed, right?

I was practically the only one left in the ward as at now.

Mia went to her hotel room to freshen up, mom went home to prepare dinner while Lexi went outside to get something…after all we were expecting more guests to visit Gwen today. And when I say guest…I meant; Arthur, Pearl, Davis and Kathy… Those troublesome, funny idiots.

I was humming some tone while cleaning up the room when I head a voice…

“Cl… Cleo…” The voice was husky and unclear.

Wait, was I hearing things now? Why the hell will I hear my name when I’m literally the only one in the room?

I stopped humming and put my ears down to listen to the voice but none came for a while until…

“Cle…Cleo?”

What the hell was going on here?

It was just me and Gwen in the ro… wait a minute, I abruptly turned around and found myself staring right at Gwen who was likewise staring at me with a small smile playing at the side of her li-ps.

HOLY SHIT….

“Gwen?”
