❣️ Episode 30 ❣️

?Alexis’s pov?

“You should leave too, Brenden.” I said in a low voice not taking my eyes off Gwen’s unconscious form.

I had managed to persuade everyone of not leaving Gwen’s side. Her father tried everything within his power to change my mind but nothing he said was able to.

I definitely can’t leave her in this condition.

I really care about her _and no, not romantically but I care for her as a friend should_

I owe this girl my life and dignity…if she hadn’t saved me from those thugs, I wonder what would have become of me right now.

But why does life have to be this cruel and wicked?

Merely looking at her like this, I could see throu-ghher, I can see her pain, her fear, she was literally fighting for her dear life!

No, she doesn’t deserve this.

She doesn’t at all…so why?

Why does fate have to treat her this way???

Everyone had left already aside from me, Gwen’s father, and Brenden…and as for Cleo, she went home to get us some food and change of clothes for Mr James.

I didn’t even know Cleo lived with Gwen’s family until now.

Now that explains why she’s very close to Gwendolyn. And here I was thinking otherwise, silly me!

Mr James wasn’t in the ward because he needed to attend to some few situation at the office. He has been on the phone for over an hour now.

He looked really distressed and broken…I can’t even imagine the pain he was going throu-ghright now. It’s his daughter who is fighting for her life for pete sake!

I’m really worried about him but I was mostly worried about her, my Gwendolyn.

Brenden came to sit beside me, reaching out to hold my hand. “I can’t leave you here like this, Lexi.”

“I’m fine…you need to go home and get changed.” I said persuasively, even when I know fully well that Brenden wouldn’t leave me here like this.

“And what about you?” He asked me slowly, raising a questioning brow at me.

I let out a de-ep breath, running my we-t tongue over my dried li-ps to moisture it. I haven’t tasted anything or better still, take a sip of water since I heard the news about Gwen.

Damn, I’ve never acted this way towards anyone before.

Even when Rowan was rushed to the hospital, I still ate something and even went home to get changed but now, I don’t want to leave her side…at all.

“I’m not leaving here until she wakes up, Brenden. I’m sure she will.” I said, hopefully, placing my palm over her pale ones.

“You really care about her.” He said calmly, darting his gaze to Gwen’s sleeping form.

“I owe her my life.” I said in affirmation, sniffling.

He stayed quiet for a while before saying, “I’m sorry, Lexi. This is all my fault. If I didn’t…” He began but I quickly cut him off, preventing him for putting more blame on himself.

“It’s no one’s fault, but fate’s, Brenden.” I said calmly. “Even if you didn’t bump into her that night, she would still have ended up this way one way or the other.”

“But…”

I shook my head, turning my gaze to him. “If you want to blame yourself then I should also blame myself as well…I hurt in so many ways,,, I avoided her for no just reason simply because…” My voice trailed off as my thoughts wander off to the real reason why I tried avoiding Gwendolyn…“My feelings.” I mumbled under my breath, taking my eyes back to her sleeping form.

Brenden didn’t hear me because he didn’t say anything about what I just said.

He nodded his head slowly, taking in some de-ep few breaths. “She will be okay, right?”

Will she?

I honestly don’t know but I hope she will be… I really do.

I nodded my head, with the aim of practising faith, as I held her pale hands tightly, refusing to let go. “She has to be.”

Neither of us said a word to each other as our gaze never left Gwen.

The room was comfortably silent, giving us room to discuss with our own thought.

Suddenly the ringtone of a phone started playing, disrupting our quiet moment.

I quietly dug out my phone and stared down at the caller ID…Fuc-k, it was Rowan.

?Cleo’s pov?

“I’m coming with you.” Mom said in finality, following me out of the house from behind.

“No, mom. You need to rest and besides it’s already too late for you to be coming over to the hospital.” I said.

“Gwen is in the hospital, Cleo. I can’t sleep at ease knowing fully well what’s on ground.” She said, sadly.

“I know, mom. Trust me I do. But coming over won’t solve anything. And everyone can’t just leave the house empty, you know that right?” I paused. “You will just have to go over there tomorrow.”

“Tomorrow? Isn’t she coming back home tonight with you guys?” Mom asked.

I sadly shook my head. “She’s in coma, mom. Only a miracle can save her now.”

Her eyes went wide at that as her mouth were hanging open. “Wha…wha…what?” She choked out.

“Everyone are worried and praying to God for a miracle.” I sighed. “She will be fine, I have the faith.”

*****

It was really difficult to persuade mom to stay back home and visit Gwen tomorrow.

I get why she was worried,,, everyone were.

But there’s absolutely nothing we can do right now to wake Gwen up from that coma other than to keep praying for her.

I walked inside the hospital to find Lexi talking to someone over the phone at the corner of the hospital.

While Mr James was still on the phone, looking like one who haven’t had the time to take good care of himself lately.

I walked past them and went straight to the private ward at the third floor of the hospital.

Just as I was going to open the door to Gwen’s room, I caught sight of Brenden inside the room, throu-ghthe see-throu-ghgla-ss.

He was saying something to Gwen while holding her hand…he was actually crying.

Like I mean, the great se-x god who cared less about ladies and treat them like trash was practically shedding tears right now because of Gwendolyn.

Was it because he was feeling guilty about her current situation and that’s why he’s acting this way towards her?

Or was his feelings of care really true???

I just stood in front of the door, not making any attempt to go in.

My mind and thought suddenly wandered off to Lexi…

*NO. I’M NOT LEAVING HERE UNTIL SHE WAKES UP!!!*

There is something about Lexi towards Gwen that i can’t quite figure out.

If I’m not wrong, it almost feels like Lexi likes Gwen, and no, not friendly but romantically. Was that even possible?

Last thing I remember, Lexi has a boyfriend who she so much love. I know about that but yet still went ahead to develop a crush on her _don’t blame me but my heart_

“Why aren’t you going in?” I turned around to find Lexi staring at me from head to toe.

“Hey.” I waved at her, smiling. “I was just about to go in now. You haven’t gone home yet?”

“I’m worried about her… I can’t go home, leaving her like this.” She said, walking past me and opened the door, stepping inside along with me from behind. “Brenden,” She called quietly, sitting down beside her brother.

Brenden turned his face away from us to wipe off his tears, then after a while, he turned around to look at us,,, to look at me in particular.

“You are here,” He said in a low voice.

I nod. “Yeah. I brou-ght some food over for you both.” I dropped the bag I was holding on the floor. “But Don’t you think it will be best if you both go home? You need to sleep and have a rest. There is school tomorrow, remember?”

“I…” Lexi began but I cut her off immediately.

“I know you are worried about her. We are all worried, Lexi. But Gwen wouldn’t want this from us. She won’t want us to skip school because of her.”

“But,”

“Lexi, if you are really worried about her then you should go home and have a good rest then return back here tomorrow.” I stated.

Neither of the two siblings said a word to each other. Brenden was finally going to talk when a woman suddenly barged into the ward, staring at Gwen’s unconscious body on the bed with a de-ep frown on her face.

“Mia,” Mr James called out, stepping inside as well.

?Narrator’s pov?

“Oh my God,” Dorcas gasped, pulling her two children into her arms. “Where have you guys been?” She drew away from them. “I’ve been worried sick about you both.”

“We are so sorry, mom. We’ve been in the hospital.” Brenden said, scratching the nape of his neck.

“Hospital? Which of you is sick?” She asked worriedly, staring in between them.

“No. It’s not us but a friend.” Alexis said in a dried tone, walking past her mother and went inside the kitchen.

“Oh. What happened to her? Is she okay now?” Dorcas asked out of concern, linking arms with her son and pulling him along with her to the sitting room.

“She’s in coma. She has brain hemorrhage.” Brenden explained.

Minutes later Lexi came out of the kitchen, holding two glas-scups of coffee and handed one over to Brenden.

“Thanks.” Brenden appreciated, taking a sip of it. “Ah, I really do need this right now.”

“Brain hemorrhage? How come?”

“She was involved in an accident. It’s only a miracle that she would even wake up.” Lexi said calmly, with a de-ep sigh.

“You guys must really care for her.” They all sat down on the couch.

“Mom, that girl saved me…I owe her.”

“What do you mean? what did she save you of?” Dorcas asked in confusion, raising a questioning brow at her daughter.

“I almost…”

“Where have you guys been?” Eric asked, joining into the conversation, with a glare on his face.

“Oh, dad.” Lexi called calmly, giving him a small smile. “Did we make you worry also?”

“You know how much I worry about you, Lexi…” He said, moving his gaze to Brenden, who have been sitting down quietly, hoping to go unnoticed by his father. “I will like to have a word with you,”

Dorcas and Lexi immediately cut in. “NO.”

“What?” Eric questioned, a but taken aback by both his wife and daughter refusal over the meeting with his son.

“Dad, whenever you call Brenden into your office, it’s always for bad. You either want to shout at him about something or you want to shout at him about something.” Lexi said.

“They are both the same thing.” Brenden whispered to his sister’s ear, pointing out her error.

“I know but that’s what he always call you in there for, right?”

“Right.”

“My son is not going in there with you. Never. I won’t let it.” Dorcas said, shaking her head vigorously.

“I am not going to do anything bad. Neither am I going to shout at him about anything.” He said.

“How would we know that?” Dorcas asked rhetorically. “Listen, they’ve both had a busy day with their unconscious friend and adding to Brenden’s problem wouldn’t be good for him, okay?”

“Dor…”

“Mom,” Brenden cuts his father off. “It’s alright. I can take care of myself, okay?” I stiffened out a smile, trying to rea-ssure both his mother and sister.

“No. I won’t let you go in there with him.” Dorcas said, refusing to listen to Brenden. “I can’t let him go on in frustrating your life! I can’t, okay? Enough is enough.”

“I will be fine, mom. I can take care of myself, or don’t you trust me?”

“I do but it’s him I don’t.” She responded.

Eric couldn’t believe his wife have such audacity in her until now.

She looked really pissed right now, he could figure that out from her face expression.

“Mom… let just trust dad. I’m sure he has learnt his mistakes.” She stood up to her feet. “I’m feeling so sleepy right now,” She yawned. “I have a very long day tomorrow.” She said, walking away.

After a moment of silent, Dorcas pointed her index finger at her husband, glaring ha-rd at him. “Listen to me carefully, if you dare hurt MY son again, I will make life so unbearable for you as my husband. Last warning, Eric.”
