❣️Episode 29❣️

?Cleo’s pov?

“Brenden, what’s going on?” Alexis asked as soon as we walked into the hospital to find Brenden sitting down on a bench in front of a private ward.

He was looking very worried and…guilty?

I don’t know, but the look on his face was so new and strange.

I might not be a fan of him but I know a lot about him and his waywardness.

I know how awful he was when it comes to treating girls with respect.

I know how he changes girls every single day! Brenden was quite, in fact he was very popular in school and anyone who haven’t heard about him is definitely not a student from Diamond high.

So if you are wondering how I got to figure out the look on his face,,,well, I hope my explanation were enough for you.

Lexi, Kathy, Pearl, Arthur, Davis and I came straight to the hospital as soon as school was over.

We have been worried sick since we got the news about Gwen’s condition. Especially me.

I’m so scared right now.

The thought of losing Gwen was so scary and traumatizing. I really don’t want to lose a friend like her.

We might not be very close or neither do we know each other very well but still, she’s someone I never want to grow apart from.

Mr James wasn’t anywhere around which means two things; Either he was inside her ward, watching her or he was in the doctor’s office.

I can’t even imagine the pain he must be going throu-ghright now.

He really loves his daughter. Even when she hasn’t started living with him, he will always go throu-ghher photos with a smile on his face.

He loves getting her new toys, visit her over there at Boston, be there for her…he just want to be a perfect father for his precious daughter.

Brenden stood up from the bench, “Lexi…” His voice broke into pieces as he called her name softly.

“Tell me, it’s all a lie…huh? Gwen can’t be in coma, right? I mean, why exactly should she be in one? That’s crazy.” Lexi said in between tears.

“This is all my fault.” Brenden mumbled under his breath, lowering his gaze to the floor.

“What are you saying?” Kathy questioned, stepping closer towards him.

Brenden let out a de-ep breath, running his fingers throu-ghhis hair dishevelling it into a huge mess. “If I didn’t bump into her last night…if I was careful enough…Fuc-k, this is all my fault, guys.”

He was speaking in riddles. Neither of us understood what he was saying and it was getting on our nerves now.

“What are you saying, Brenden?” Arthur asked again in a louder voice this time around.

“I Brou-ghT THIS UPON HER, OKAY!?” Brenden snapped out, grabbing the attention of other people around the hospital.

A nurse shot us a glare but we all ignored her, focusing on the situation at hand.

“How??” Lexi asked him calmly.

“Last night… Remember I told you about meeting Gwen?” He asked his sister.

Lexi thought for a while before nodding her head. “Yes. But what does that have to do with Gwen’s present situation now?”

He stayed quiet for a while before saying, “We bumped into each other last night. Her bike crashed because of me.”

“What?” We all said in unison, staring at Brenden with our eyes wide open.

He nodded his head slowly. “I wasn’t concentrating on the road while I was driving…I was in de-ep thought when I mistakenly bumped into someone on a bike…the person turned out to be Gwendolyn. Fuc-k, she wasn’t even wearing a helmet.” He paused. “We thought it was a minor accident and that she was okay aside from the scratch she had on her knuckles which I kinda take care of,” He sighed. “But we were both wrong. She obtained an internal injury, brain hemorrhage. And it’s all my fault.”

Oh, God.

Brain hemorrhage?

Why does life have to be this cruel?

Why does she have to encounter something as dangerous as that, huh?

I should have noticed this on time… I should have told Mr James about Gwen’s awkward behavior last night when she returned from her late night drive.

I should have pressured her more into telling me what’s wrong.

I shouldn’t have left her alone like that simply because I was mad at her for saying those things to me.

I shouldn’t have believed her when she claimed to be fine.

Brenden isn’t the one at fault here….I was.

I plopped down on the bench, letting out a de-ep breath of frustration and fear.

I wonder how Mr James is taking all of this. His daughter has just stayed with him for just two weeks and now here she was, fighting for her life.

Damn, what about her mother?

God, please save Gwen…Please. I prayed quietly, hoping for a miracle from the heavens.

“I’m sure she will be fine.” Kathy said in a whisper, coming to seat beside me. “Gwen is a fighter…she will fight her way throu-ghall of this.”

“I second the motion.” Pearl added, sitting down beside Kathy. “We should just…stay by her side.”

Lexi went closer to the ward which had a narrow see-throu-ghglas-son the door. You could see inside the room from the see-throu-ghgla-ss.

She glanced throu-ghit, watching sleeping Gwen. I was wrong, I wasn’t the one who was mostly worried sick about Gwen,,, Lexi was.

I know I shouldn’t feel jealous right now but I was.

The look on Lexi’s face made it seem like she…nah, I can’t even let the words out of my head.

Lexi can’t have any kind of feelings, like romantic feelings for Gwendolyn, right???

Arthur and Davis also sat down on the bench, leaving space for Brenden and Lexi but neither of the two siblings came to sit down.

Brenden quietly walked towards his sister and stood behind her, staring into the room as well with a soft look on his face.

What’s going on here???

?Lena’s pov?

“Did you hear the news?” Jessi asked me, smiling.

“What?” I asked her, filing my nails, paying less attention with whatever she was about to say.

“Gwen is in coma.” She announced grinning, as if Gwen being in coma was some kind of a good news.

“And why are you so happy about that?” Christy questioned, voicing out my thoughts.

“Wait, are you guys not thinking what I’m thinking?” She stared in between us, raising a questioning brow at us.

“I think we are thinking what you are thinking…we think you are stupid right now.” Ca-ssie stated, rolling her eyes.

I might hate Gwen but she being in coma doesn’t make me happy at all and moreover, it’s has absolutely nothing to do with me.

Whether she dies or lives was less of my concern so why exactly are we standing here talking about her dying a-ss?

“Guys, you guys aren’t getting the point.” Jessi took in some few de-ep breaths as if trying to calm her nerves down. “Lena, what’s your greatest goal in this school?”

“To graduate, duh!” I gave her the what_kind_of_a _stupid_question_is_that look.

“Of course. We all want to graduate but aside from that…who is your dream boyfriend in this school?”

A smile slowly crept its way to my face as I thought of my prince charming, Brenden. “You all know the answer to that.”

“Exactly my point here, girl!” She said. “You want Brenden but Brenden can’t seem to concentrate on you because of Gwen and now that Gwen is out of the picture…”

It struck me!

What she was trying to get at struck me immediately.

I handed my nail files over to Ca-ssie and focused my attention to Jessi. “I can get Brenden’s attention now.”

Jessi nod her head in agreement. “Now you get my point, baby.” She winked, smiling.

Why didn’t I thought of that? That’s one of the best idea have gotten so far.

Gwen is in coma which means, there will be no Gwen in school and there will definitely be no distraction for me to get Brenden to date me.

This was perfect!

Fuc-k!!!

“Fuc-k, why didn’t I thought of that?”

“You get a point there, Jess. That’s a very good idea.” Christy said, smiling as well. “This is your chance, Lena.”

“Yeah, I know. And I won’t lose this chance…never.” I said with full determination.

“So what are you going to do now?” Ca-ssie asked me.

I folded my arms over my chest, leaning against the bed headrest with a smirk plastered on my face. “I just have to strategize a plan, girls…we have a big fish to catch and some rules to break.”

?Narrator’s pov?

“What are you doing out here in the dark, honey?” Eric asked, flic-king the light on.

Dorcas ignored him, gazing at the closed door with a de-ep frown on her face.

Eric approached her calmly, taking a seat beside her. “Dear, what’s going on with you?” He asked again, reaching out to her hand but she pulled away immediately. “Does this have anything to do with what I had said last night about our son?”

“Our son…” She scoffed, clic-king her tongue in annoyance.

“I was just mad and upset about the whole thing and…”

“What are you trying to get at, Eric?” Dorcas snapped out, glaring ha-rd at him now. “What, you were just mad and then the only thing you could think of saying to me was that? Are you kidding me right now?”

“Babe…”

She held out her palm at him, stopping him from saying any other word to her. “Dorcas… that’s what you addressed me as in that stupid office room of yours so please keep addressing me with my damn name!”

“Why are you so mad, huh? It’s not like I was accusing you of something wrong.”

“Oh, really?” She shakes her head in disappointment at her husband. “You know what, I don’t have the time to exchange words with you, okay? Right now, I’m only waiting for our daughter and MY son to return back from school, it’s about time already…so please, go on with your affairs and let me be!” She spat angrily, leaving Eric speechless.

?Brenden’s pov?

“You need to stop blaming yourself, man.” Davis said for the hundredth time that day, as he flung his arms over my shoulder. “I’m sure everything will be fine.”

Maybe…Maybe not.

“I don’t even know what to think, guys.” I said in sincerity.

“Then stop thinking, okay?” They said.

I stared over at Lexi, she hasn’t sat down for once since she got here. She has just been staring at Gwen from the see-throu-ghgla-ss, looking very worried.

I’ve never seen her this way until now. She must really care for Gwen to behave this way _I get why she’s acting this way, after all Gwen was her Savior, she had saved her from getting ra-ped so, she feels really indebted to Gwen’s kimdness_

She must be scared of losing her… Everyone was. Including me, surprisingly.

Besides, I can’t possibly leave Gwen this way. I brou-ght this upon her so I should definitely stick to her side until she wakes up from that Fuc-king coma.

I sighed, “What if she doesn’t wake up?” I can’t believe I was asking them this question.

They were both surprise as well,,,I wasn’t the type to care about anyone, especially about a mere girl.

“She will, Brenden. So stop worrying.” Arthur stated calmly. “We just need to wait and see…”

Just then the doctor arrived, staring at all of us. “You all should go home.”

“No.” One of Lexi’s friend said for the rest of us, shaking her head vigorously.

“I know you all are really worried about your friend but staying here like this wouldn’t change a damn thing. And besides, it’s getting very late.”

“We are fine, doc. Just go on with your business and ignore us.” Arthur was the one to talk this time around.

The man was going to talk again when Gwen’s father finally walked out of his daughter’s ward, looking very distressed.

He gaze at Lexi who completely ignored his presence, her gaze never left Gwen’s paralyzed form.

“Who…” The man began but the Gwen’s girlfriend, I don’t even know what her name was cuts in.

“She’s a friend of Gwendolyn. Her name is Lexi, short for Alexis.” She said, walking towards him. “How is she?”

He shrugged. “She’s still the same but I’m still hoping for a miracle.” He glanced at all of us around. “You all need to go home.”

“No, we want to stay by her side.” Another one of Lexi friend said.

“Gwen wouldn’t want this, you know. And besides, you guys are just coming back from school…you all need to go home and rest. Your parents must be worried sick.” He said.

“That’s what I’ve been trying to explain to them.” The doctor sighed.

“Fine.” Lexi friends stood up to their feet in sync. “We will just return tomorrow then.” They went closer to Lexi. “Hey, let’s go.”

“NO. I’M NOT LEAVING UNTIL SHE WAKES UP.”
