THINGS YOU CAN’T SEE
EPISODE 7
The next morning Camila woke up and made breakfast for the family, she waited for them to eat before she went inside to pack her things….. since yesterday king has not said a word concerning what Jasmine told him to do so she already knew she has lost her job.
Jasmine’s school bus came so she took her school bag and left….. she told Camila to stop giving her lunch pack because they have free and expensive meal at school.
King got ready for work and came downstairs, only to meet Camila standing with her bag.
KING
(Surprised)
you are going somewhere?
CAMILA
what else is here for me to do? I’m so useless here…..I cook what I know how to, not what you want me to….your daughter is right ….I’m not a maid.
KING
(He dropped his briefcase and sat down)
so, where exactly are you going ?
CAMILA
I’m going back to the village, I can’t even….
she was going to say she couldn’t go back to her sister’s house but she kicked against it..
KING
I never asked you to leave Cami…. take your bag inside.
CAMILA
but sir ….
KING
if you have somewhere to be, or maybe you don’t like it here…. I’m not going to hold you againstyour will… you can come with me, I will drop you on my way off to work.
camila knew she had no other place to go, she knew going back to the village will hurt her sister….beside she was already getting use to the comfortable bed they have.
CAMILA
I don’t have anywhere to go sir
KING
good….take your things inside…. I will decide what to do with you when I come back from work.
CAMILA
okay sir…..thank you sir.
KING
I’m off to work…..dont border cooking anything for lunch…..I will come back early so I can take you to the market to get some food stuffs to stock the house.
CAMILA
okay sir…..have a lovely day sir..
king picked his briefcase and left the house while Camila took her bag back inside.
AT THE BENSON’S RESIDENT
Alex left for work even before his brother would wake up, he had an early morning business he nee-ded to take care of.
Anna prepared breakfast and kept on the dinning, she went back into her room to freshen up… when she came back it was only Jordan that was seated on the dinning
JORDAN
good morning our wife
ANNA
good morning….. how was your night?
JORDAN
it was okay, hope you slept well and woke up from the right side of the bed today?
ANNA
(she stare at him, then smiled)
I always wake up from the right side of my bed.
JORDAN
indeed you did, yo even smiled at me today, you were so upti-ght to me yesterday that I thought I did something really bad.
ANNA
you didn’t do anything wrong okay? I wasn’t in my best of moods yesterday… sorry about that
JORDAN
that’s okay, I mean it’s un-derstandable, women and mood swings are like twins…. I haven’t seen my brother this morning….is he still sleeping?
ANNA
your brother already left for work
JORDAN
so early? without even touching his breakfast?
ANNA
(she smiled)
he was running last for an appointment
JORDAN
okay… so tell me wifey, you stay home all day or you work?
ANNA
your brother would not let me work, beside which qualifications do I have to use it in searching for a job?
JORDAN
it doesn’t matter, so long you are smart, you can own your own business… my brother is capable.
ANNA
well maybe he hasn’t thought about it just yet….. do you care for eggs?
she asked pas-sing him the plate of egg sauce….. Jordan saw that she didn’t want to continue the conversation so she didn’t push any further.
They ate their breakfast in silent, after thru finished eating…..jordan as-sisted Anna in doing the dishes even when she rejected his help he still insisted.
Anna went to the living room to relax a little before going upstairs to sleep….jordan came to seat with her too but on a different chair…. no body spoke to each other, thru just watch the movie and laugh when necessary.
Around 11am Jordan was feeling sleepy so he didn’t complete the movie… he begged Anna to finish the movie so she could gist him about it when he wakes up.
Anna agreed and promise to complete the movie before going inside her room.
GILBERT RESIDENT
Around 2pm king was back from the market, he went inside and freshen up, changed from his office clothes and wore a jean trouser and a white shirt.
He came downstairs with his wallet in his hand… Camila was already waiting for him downstairs
KINGS
are you ready?
CAMILA
yes sir…. I’m ready.
king picked his car keys and started to go out, Camila followed from behind.
He got to his garage and called his gate man
KING
when Jasmine comes back from school, tell her I went out to get some stuffs….
GATE MAN
okay sir ….bye bye sir.
KINGS
thanks…. open the gate for me.
the gate man ran back to the gate and opened it while king drove out with Camila.
At the market gate king gave Camila a book and a pen to write down everything she would he nee-ding at home… he wanted to test her intelligence….. she collected the pen and book from him but didn’t write anything.
KING
what are you waiting for? go ahead and write what you will be nee-ding in the kitchen….and please make sure you buy them in bulks…..I don’t have time bringing you to the market…..i won’t even do it next time…. I’m sure by next week deji must have been back from his father’s burial.
king saw the confuse look on her face, so he decided to explain to her more
KING
deji is the house driver … he travelled home to bury his father.
CAMILA
oh okay sir…. but sir I don’t even know what to write….. we have bags of rice at home, beans is at home too, so is yam….so I don’t even know what to write.
kings collected the pen and book from her, he made a list of the kind of food his daughter likes to eat and what is use in preparing it .
He finished and handed it over to her…. he came down from the car and she followed him too.
king took her to one woman and gave her the list.
KING
I don’t have the energy going around this market, so you will help me take her around to get all this stuff.
MARKET WOMAN
you know say I dey market place, I no go fit leave this place….and you know say my pikin no follow me come today
KING
I’m not asking you to go for free, I’m going to pay you….
Immidiately she heard I will pay you, her eyes lighted up in Joy…..she immediately agreed to follow Camila around.
king opened his wallet and gave Camila her atm card…. she wondered what she would do with it…
KING
4023 that’s my pin….. use whatever you want … I will be waiting at the car.
CAMILA
but sir you haven’t given me money.
MARKET WOMAN
don’t worry, I will show her what to do
King nodded his head and went to wait in his car…. the market woman took Camila to where she withdraw money….since the woman was greedy she cheated Camila not knowing Camila was smart and is a blessed child.
as the guy was withdrawing the money she spoke language with the guy, she asked him to charge extra that she would come nck later to collect her share.
Camila didn’t hear the language they spoke but she heard what the boy said in his mind
“what if I’m caught and they get me arrested”?
“abeg nothing go happened, after all she’s not a big girl, and I’m sure she’s not smart…. she will not even noticed”
he finally concluded in his mind and cheated Camila

After buying everything they nee-ded, the woman helped her to call wheelbarrow that would help her pack her things to the car….. they got to the car, they met king talking on the phone…. he looked a little happy from the way he spoke.
Immidiately king noticed them he begged to call the person back and hung up.
KING
you guys are finally back
MARKET WOMAN
yes ooh, we Don finally come back…. hope say sun no too heat you.
KING
I’m in my car and my AC is on….so I’m fine…..so shall we go?
MARKET WOMAN
we Don buy finish but we never pack am finish, the wheelbarrow guy go still go back go pack.
KING
oh okay….. but is there any nee-d for her to come with you again? since the wheelbarrow guy already knows where I’m packed… the sun is too much.
MARKET WOMAN
(She laughed)
you want make them scam you abi? you can’t trust this boys ooh….they can run with your goods ooh
KINGS
oh okay….. Camila do yo still want to go with her?
CAMILA
yes, I still want to go.
KING
alright….. please make it fast, Jasmine has called me more than twenty times.
Camila nodded her head and followed the woman, they went to where their remaining goods were and packed it…. they returned back to where king was parked… he came down from the car and watched as they loaded his car.
Once they finished, king opened his wallet and counted cash and was about to hand it over to the market woman.
CAMILA
excuse me sir, here is your card sir.
KING
(He collected it)
thank you….. madam here is the money I promised you…..thank you for your ….
she immediately stood in the middle blocking the woman from taking the money from king
MARKET WOMAN
W-etin happen, you no go let me collect my money again?
KING
what’s the matter cami?
CAMILA
nothing sir, is just that this woman and the guy we withdraw money from had already paid themselves.
KING
(shocked)
pay themselves? how do you mean?
MARKET WOMAN
what are you talking about? you see why I don’t like helping people? what’s nonsense is this?
CAMILA
sir, at the POS guy’s shop she told him to withdraw extra and give us a little that she would come back for her share…. I think she should go back and take her share.
KING
is she saying the truth?
MARKET WOMAN
see this life no balance, after helping you, this is how you want to repay me? really?
(she said on top of her voice)
Soon people started to gather, they wanted to know what was happening, and why mama Doris was shouting….. she explained everything to them and some started to blame king for giving his card to a stranger, some said he is fake and didn’t want to pay the woman for her service…. he felt embarras-sed, how much would the woman like to have that he couldn’t give her….. he counted more money and gave it to her….. the woman quickly accepted it and smiled.
King angrily entered his car, that’s why he hates going to places like this…. he had to endure all this embarras-sment because of camila.
Camila didn’t enter the car, as the market woman was about to go she grabbed her and looked her de-ep in the eyes.
CAMILA
when you loose something previous, just know you were given the opportunity to repent but you chose money of that thing.
MARKET WOMAN
what do you mean? abeg get out I don collect my money, olosho.
Camila smiled and entered the car….imside the cat she apologized to king for what happened back there.
CAMILA
I’m sorry about that sir, but I promise you I wasn’t lying.
He didn’t say anything, he started his car and drove to a fancy restaurant where he ordered food for all of them…..it was already getting late and they haven’t eaten lunch… so he bought what they will eat for lunch and later at night.
As they got home, king asked the gate man to help camila to pack the food stock inside.
Jasmine waited for her dad till she fell asleep…. he immediately went to his room to wash off the stress before he went to his daughter’s room to wake her up to eat.
He ki-ssed her both cheeks and robbed her hair smoothly…she slightly opened her eyes to see her father.
JASMINE
dad!!!!!
KING
hello baby
JASMINE
(he moved closer to him)
where did you go to? I have been waiting
KING
baby I told you I was at the market…. how are you?
JASMINE
I’m fine and I’m very hungry, camila didn’t cook anything for me to eat
KING
I’m sorry about that, I was the one who told her not to cook anything…. you skipped lunch at school?
JASMINE
yeah…..i wasn’t hungry so I skipped it
KING
oh okay, alright get up let’s go have some food in our stomach
JASMINE
(She jumped up excitedly)
she already cooked?
KING
no, we bought the food on our way home
That made her immediately sad, she had just eaten Camila’s food for two days and she was already in love with it that she doesn’t want to eat any food that wasn’t cooked by her.
KING
you don’t want the food?
JASMINE
I don’t want an eatery food daddy, I want her food
KING
hmmm, so you like her ?
JASMINE
she’s a good cook, I don’t like her….I just like her food.
KING
(he smiled)
don’t worry tomorrow morning you will eat her food because tonight she’s not going to cook…. don’t want to kill someone’s child with stress
Jasmine didn’t say anything, she just got up from the bed and started to go downstairs while the father smiled and followed her.
As they got downstairs Camila had already set the table….. they took their seat and immediately started eating after a few prayer
KING
seat down and eat
He said without looking at Camila….. Camila didn’t move because she didn’t know he was talking to her.
KING
Camila I said seat down and eat
CAMILA
I dare not sir…..who I’m ….
KING
can you for once just obey without complaining?
(he said with a little high voice)
she hesitated before she sat down, she carried her plate, as she was about to carry the spoon to dish her food, king took the spoon before her and dish food into her plate….. he had only lived with Camila for two days and he already knows her better than anyone…. he was sure her decency and over zealous character won’t allow her to dish enough food to eat so he helped her.
They all ate in silent, after eating Jasmine ran into her room….. she has an online course by 5pm.
King went to the living room to relax a little while Camila cleared the dishes before going to her room.
At the market mama Doris was already packing to go home when her neighbor came running and sweating like she had seen a ghost.
MAMA DORIS
anuty Susu, this one wey you dey run like say you see ghost….. W-etin happen?
ANUTY SUSU
It would have been better if it was a ghost I saw.
MAMA DORIS
So what’s chasing you
ANUTY SUSU
Mama Doris, there’s a big problem ooh
MAMA DORIS
(She started to feel tense)
what happened? where is my daughter?
ANUTY SUSU
(She shook her head)
There was a fight at our street, Doris was there, she was there watching just like every other person…..but in the heat of the fight, the other guy picked up a bottle and broke it, he was about to stab his opponent but the idiot dodged it and pushed the guy who was holding the bottle and in a flash ….doris…..doris…
MAMA DORIS
(Jumping)
eeh, what now happen?
ANUTY SUSU
He stabbed her the bottle on the ne-ck
mama Doris immediately froze after hearing that her daughter was stabbed and might lose her life in the process.
