EPISODE 42

Jake led Jade into the restaurant and they were directed to a seat just by the window. A waiter c@m£ in to take their orders.

Jade was completely taken by the decor of the restaurant. She looked around taking in the ambience. She never knew a place like this existed. It was so beautiful and from it looks she knew just a serving in this restaurant would be expensive.

“Miss Jade” Jake called out again. Jade has been too carried away appreciating the beauty of the restaurant that she didn’t hear Jake call out to her.

“What would you like for breakfast?” He asked gesturing at the menu lying in front of her. Jade followed his line of sight and saw the menu. She looked at it without tou-ching it and she looks back at Jake.

“Uhhmm..Sir, I’m not hungry. You should just order for yourself” Jade replied with a fake smile. There was no way she’d let this man buy her breakfast. Even if she did there was no way she’ll be able to eat it in peace. Sitting in front of him was ma-king her uneasy then how would she gobble down food in front of him without choking on it.

“Are you sure, I can…”

“Thanks, but I’m not hungry. I had something before leaving the house” Jade said, if that apple really counted for breakfast.

Jake stared at her for quite some time, before returning his gaze to the waiter who was patiently waiting for his order.

“Get me your breakfast special” Jake said with a smile.

“Okay sir” The waiter replied before walking away.

Jake looked at the lady right in front of him who was now staring at his car parked just behind the hvge glas-s window. She looked like she was entranced by it. He looked at her small heart shaped face, her sea blue eyes that looked like it was glistening with the stars of a whole galaxy, and herl-ips.

Jake was carried away gawking at her face so much that he didn’t realize Jade was now looking at him, with a confused look on her face.

“What?” Jade asked softly. Did she have something on her face. Her voice pu-ll-ed Jake out of his reverie.

“What did you say?” Jake asked. Obviously he has not heard her. He cringed in his mind for letting her see him stupidly checking her out.

“You were staring. Do I have something on my face?” Jade asked slowly raising her hand to her face.

“No!” Jake exclaimed. “You’re so taken by the car, so I was thinking maybe I should get a video game set installed in my car, that way we can have each session in my car. What do you think?”

“Can they do that?” Jade asked curiously. Jake almost chuckled when he realized she was actually taking him serious. He had only said that because he didn’t want to outrightly tell her that she has the most beautiful eyes he has ever seen and the most lusciousl-ips he had ever k!$$£d and he couldn’t take his eyes off them – Off her.

How was he going to tell her, the image of her n-ked b©dy and the memories of the night they shared together has been buried de-ep in his head and he can’t st©p thinking about it….about her. How was he going to tell her that he really do know how to pl@ythe very game she was about teaching him, and that he might actually be better at it than her. Should he tell her that he doesn’t know why he was seated there having breakfast from a restaurant he thinks serves the worst breakfast on earth but he was probably going to smile and grin throu-gh it all. How the hell was he going to tell her that he didn’t know what has happened to him since the first time they met, and that the reason he was going throu-gh all this facade was for him to ascertain what it was that has changed in him or what he actually wants from her. This were all the thoughts going throu-gh his mind at the moment but he reveals a cute smile and says, “I don’t know. We can only ask the manufacturing company”

“Oh” Jade nodded before glancing at the black beaut staring at her behind the glas-s windows, calling out to her to come t©uçh it.

The waiter finally arrived with the orders. A hvge breakfast basket with a variety of pastries were sitted in it. The aroma waft around the table and Jade could feel her stomach grumble. As if Jake heard her now grumbling stomach.

“Are you really sure you don’t want anything? Because this is alot and I’m sure i can’t finish this” Jake said with a serious look. He was sure she hasn’t had a breakfast given the time he had called her this morning.

“I’m fine. I usually skip breakfast” Jade lied with a convincing smile.

“Okay” Jake said with a shrug before delving in for his meal, while Jade wh!pped out her phone from her bag to keep herself busy. After a few bites Jake wasn’t comfortable with the fact that Jade was just sitting there not eating anything at all. He signalled a waiter over and ordered a glas-s of jui-ce.

Soon the waiter returned with a glas-s of jui-ce. Jake placed the glas-s in front of Jade. She stared at him in utter confusion.

“I know you said you don’t want to eat but you just can’t sit down and watch me eat without eating yourself. So a glas-s of jui-ce perhaps?” Jake said with a hopeful smile. Jade looked from him to the glas-s like she was contemplating if she should accept it.

“Thank you” Jade said as she picked up the glas-s and took a sip from it. Jake smiled to himself when she finally accepted. He returned his attention to his food which to his greatest surprise was heavenly delicious. He certainly hasn’t had a more delicious breakfast since his return and somehow everything today was just happening to his own delight.

Maybe it was just his br@in telling him so, or maybe he was truly happy.

Jade took a quic-k glance at Jake who was enjoying his meal like it was the best breakfast he has ever had. His attitude towards the food made Jade feel like she has lost out on some good meal. She sighed in her heart before returning her attention back to the game she was currently pla-ying on her phone. Now it was Jake’s turn to look at her. He narrowed his brows when he observed her brows were crea-sed and she had a pensive look in her face with all her attention buried in her phone or whatever she was doing with it.

He observed the way she kept b!tt!g her nether l!pand he wouldn’t lie, there was something that does to him every time she did that. Jake was about to say something when Jade’s phone rang and she revealed a beautiful smile.

He lowered his head when he realized Jade was about to raise her head, he didn’t want a repeat of what happened earlier. Jade gazed at him, as she contemplated excusing herself from the table to answer her call. But on a second thought she remained seated. Jake looked so engrossed in his meal and she doubts if her call might disturb him. So she decided to take the call there. It was Amy calling.

“Hey baby” Amy chirped from her end.

“Hey bf” Jade replied with a sweet smile. She knew why Amy was calling. That girl was probably excited about going to shopping with her. What Jade did not notice was the hvge frown plastered across the face of the man in front of her, who was trying to un-derstand the meaning of the word she had said.

‘Bf as in b©yfri£ndor best friend?’ Jake thought in his head.

“Hope you’re getting re-ady for our shopping spree, because that’s what we are going on, a shopping spree” Amy said excitedly over the phone ma-king Jade chuckle. She looked at Jake one more and to her relief his attention was still focused on his food. ‘Is the food that good?’ Jade questioned herself. He practically hasn’t lifted his head up since he started eating a few minutes ago.

” Not yet”

“You are not trying to change your mind are you?” Amy asked, her voice not as chirpy as earlier.

“No not at all. We’ll probably meet by 1 pm” Jade said, her eyes were still glued to Jake, observing for the slightest change in his expression. She really didn’t want to interrupt his meal. She was now regretting her decision of not leaving the table to answer her call, because now she was being cautious. Amy was thri-lled by her response. Jade was finally getting herself some new stuffs. She had promised herself to give Jade a complete makeover, and she had made a list of the things she thought Jade lacked and obviously nee-ded as a girl. She was too excited by it all.

“Should I pick you up or we should meet there?” Amy asked in an happy tone. She was like a child who finally got the toy her father had promised her from a long time ago and now she couldn’t wait to pl@ywith it.

“Errm…I think we should meet up there. I really have to go now okay” Jade said in a dismissive tone. The call was getting too prolonged and she was becoming anxious.

“Okay. See you later baby girl” Amy said sweetly before hanging up. Jade almost shook her head amusedly but she didn’t when she saw Jake staring intently at her.

“I’m sorry Mr Beau. I didn’t mean to…” Jade tried apologizing but Jake interrupted her.

“It’s okay” He said in a slight indifferent tone. What he really wanted to say was who the hell was that? And why are you calling me Beau instead of Jake?

That call was having an effect on him. And he didn’t know why. Everything about this girl was having an effect on him. She keeps causing a turbulence inside of him with everything she does. Was this the other plans she was talking about?

1 PM? He looked at the time, it was just fifteen minutes past 9. That means she was giving him just 3hrs and 45 minutes more outside the initial 4 hours. How shrewd.

That smile she had when she received that call was the most genuine smile he had seen since they’ve been together this morning. He couldn’t help but remember how she had smiled in a similar way at the guy at the p@rty. Was he the one who called her? Jade asked himself his eyes involuntarily stationed on her phone and Jade didn’t miss the way he was staring at her phone.

But why the hell was he being bothered about all of this. It was normal for her to have a b©yfri£ndright? What was he thinking? that she might be single? And even if she was, what have that got to do with him? He wasn’t interested in d@t!ngher, oh he’d never be. He is mysteriously attra-cted to her and why he was, is the very reason behind this 168 hours charade. But that didn’t mean he’d want to d@t£ her. Relationsh!ps were never his thing and they’ll never be.
‘So chill man’

Jake focused himself back on his food and for some awkward reason he started chewing slow than usual. He slowly ate the rest of his meal and when he was certain that Jade was getting rather impatient he stood up and said, “Let’s go.”

Jade looked at his face, she could tell something was off with him. But didn’t matter. He was actually eager to learn how to pl@ythe game anyway, maybe he just want it. She dismissed the thought of something being wrong with him. She slowly followed him out of the restaurant.

Jake was torn between letting her go at the sti-pulated time or probably stalling.. Maybe he should dally a little. But what could he do to probably make her stay a little longer?

Jake and Jade remained quiet as they drove out of the restaurant. The silence between them was so thick that a knife could possibly cut throu-gh. Jade was grateful for the silence because she really didn’t think they should be having an form of conversation at all.

Unfortunately for Jake, his heart wasn’t as peaceful as Jade’s. He was having a ha-rd time coming up with ideas to stall for as long as possible. How did something so simple turn out to be this difficult. He could always come up with a billion dollar idea that would be profitable to his company without putting in too much effort, but this seems to be more difficult.

Jake was confused he didn’t know if he should simply keep to the plan or try to keep her to himself a little bit more.

Jake sneakily looked at the google map for the most farthest game house from their current location. A sly smile hung on the side of hisl-ips when he saw it was more than half an hour drive from there.

If she wants to leave so soon he’d like to see her try. Jake reduced the speed at which he was driving. He was going to take his time, after all he had nothing planned for the day.

He turned to look at her, she was just sitting there shuffling her gaze between her phone and the window. He was becoming uncomfortable with the hvge cloak of silence hovering around them. But what could he say at the moment? He didn’t want her to be uncomfortable. But luckily for him Jade opened her mouth. “Didn’t we just drive past that game house?” Jade asked curiously. She was sure they had just driven past a game house, even if she was wrong, the google map on her phone wasn’t.

Jake glanced at her before returning his eyes to the road. “I don’t like that one” He said with a simple shrug.

“Why?” Jade inquired.

“Because it’s always crowded” He replied.

“But it’s still early, I don’t think it would be that crowded at this time” Jade reasoned.

“It would be soon enough. It’s the most affordable and people would always go there” He explained with a serious look on his face. He had just said those things like he was damn sure of what he has said.

Jade looked at him and she didn’t know what to say. Maybe all this were the perks of being rich. Being able to afford the most expensive things even when you could get same service at a cheaper rate.

“How about we use the next one. It’s not that far from here. It’s just about 5 minutes drive” She suggested, showing her phone to him, with her f!nger pointing at the marked sp©t on it.

Jake threw a quic-k look at it and sighed, “I don’t like that one either.” He stated.

Jade was confused, they were simply going there to pl@ya game, so what’s there to like.

“But it has good reviews about their services” Jade informed just in case he didn’t know.

“Don’t believe anything you see online miss Jade. Some of those reviews come from the staffs themselves. And that place just doesn’t sit right with me” He said. Jade looked at him with incredulity. She couldn’t believe he would be this picky about a mere game house.

Jade suggested a few more places but Jake’s excuses kept increasing. It was either they served the worst snacks, or their game rooms weren’t up go standard. This made Jade begin to wonder if he had probably visited all this game house. Because she wouldn’t know, she has never used one since they had a functional video game set at home.

“Erm..Mr Beau, if you don’t mind me asking, how do you so much about this places?” Jade asked. If he knew so much about this game houses, does it not mean that he has probably been there? Which also means that he should know his way with a game console thus he should be able to pl@ythe Dark soul by teaching himself right?

Jake was caught unaware by Jade’s question. What was he supposed to say now? He definitely hasn’t been to a public game house before. He has one built in his house and a mini one in his Penthouse. The only house that lacked one was the one he lived now, which was his grandfather’s manor.

“Uhmm, well I know this things. When you have a multi national conglomerate and a thousands of workers hanging around your n£¢k, you tend to know this kind of things”

Jade was confused with his reply. She didn’t quite un-derstand what he meant, but she let it slide. She isn’t going to start stressing her head over how he knew what he knows. She’d be happy if they could settle for one of this game houses and get this over with.

Jake could see her expression with his peripheral vision. He could tell she had something to say but she was trying her best not to. He didn’t like the fact that she has been trying to be invisible all morning by talking as little as possible. But he doesn’t mind, as far as she stays a little bit longer.

“I have the perfect place in mind. It’s just a bit far” He said without looking at her. He could alre-ady predict what her reaction would be like, since she is so eager to leave.

Jade snappily turned her n£¢k towards him, her eyes fully opened, “How far?” Jade asked. She didn’t like the sound of ‘far’ at all.

“About 60 miles” Jake said nonchalantly. Jade’s jaw dropped at the sound of that.

“60 miles?” She quic-kly looked at the speedometer and her eyes wi-de-ned even more when she realized that Jake was driving at 80 mph. That was damn slow.

“That’s about 45 minutes. why are we going that far?” Jade asked urgently. She still had a lot of things to do after this. She looked at the time, and a frown formed on her face. There was no way she’ll make it back to go shopping with Amy.. Why was this man begin ridiculous. Travelling that far just to pl@ya game?
