EPISODE 28

Jade still had her head placed on Jake’s che-st as she listened to his steady, rhythmic heartbeat.

“When is the meeting scheduled?” She asked. She couldn’t wait for it to be over so they could go back to seeing each other daily and spending time together.

“Friday” He answered with a low voice, which made Jade sigh. She knew what he was thinking. They still weren’t going to see each other till Friday, or maybe Saturday.

“So when do I see you?”

“After work” He replied, making Jade smile. Friday was good. For a moment there she thought they might still keep to the usual plan. She couldn’t wait till Saturday either. Jade had never felt this attached to anyone before. When she was with him she finds herself yearning for more of him. Even when she dated Cale, she had never felt this way. She snuggled a little closer. She had to make the most of the time they had now before he leaves. She could already feel her heart missing him.

“Uhm… babe?” He called.

“Hmm”

“Do you want to come to the penthouse after work on Friday?” He anxiously asked.

“Your penthouse?” Jade removed her head from his che-st so she could look at his face as she asked.

“Yes” Jake wanted to spend some time alone with her, and he couldn’t do that at the mansion or here. His penthouse was more private, and they could spend uninterrupted quality time with each other, and pla-y games together.

Jade kept quiet for a while as she thought about it. A light bulb fli-cked in her head when she got an idea and she quickly nodded her head affirmatively.

“Sure”

Her response brou-ght a smile to his face, he ki-ssed her cheek and said, “I’ll pick you up after work”

“No” Jake frowned when she said that. She wasn’t changing her mind already was she?

“No to what? You coming or me picking you up?” He inquisitively asked.

“You picking me up” She quickly replied to him, when she noticed the frown forming on his face.

“Why? Will you be closing late? I can wait till you’re ready” He informed her. He didn’t un-derstand why she didn’t want him to pick her up.

“I’m not closing late. I’ll be closing early and I don’t want to wait there. So maybe I can go ahead and wait for you to return? That way you can take your time and do whatever you have to do at the office before coming. And I’ll order us some food and snacks. So what do you say?” Jade asked with an expectant smile. All she just said were far from the reason why she wanted to go early, but she wasn’t go to tell him. He’ll have to wait and see.

Jake gazed at her in silence for some time before nodding his head, “Okay” He said with a smile.

“I’ll inform them to let you in” He didn’t want to think about it. All that matters was seeing her and spending time with her.

“Hmm,” She nodded and returned to her snuggling position which made Jake chuckle.

“Do you want a pat too?” He asked jokingly, but the shameless girl actually nodded making him chuckle louder, but his hand was already patting his baby.

“Jake let’s stay like this forever,” She said against his che-st. “I want to hold you like this forever” She added.

“Are you by chance proposing to me?” Jake asked amusedly as he tried to wrap his arm around her and hu-g her ti-ghtly but Jade pulled her head away so she could look at him.

“Do….you want me to…propose?” She asked stutteringly. She had only said that at the spur of the moment but she had never thought about marriage but since he mentioned this, she couldn’t help but ask.

Jake noticed the emotion that fli-ckered in her eyes at that moment and he un-derstood them. He had also jokingly mentioned the proposal. But it wasn’t a bad idea. Lately, he has been fantasizing about waking up every morning to see her slee-ping on his be-d with her head lying on his che-st and also returning from work to see her waiting for him. And there was a time he had imagined her being pregnant with his child and him excitedly waiting to have a mini Jade in his life. Both mother and daughter causing beautiful havoc and making him the envy of every guy out there. He didn’t mind that.

With those thoughts in mind, he smilingly replied, “I wouldn’t mind” he ki-ssed her forehead.

Jade couldn’t describe how she felt at the moment. She felt happy knowing Jake thought about a future with them. Maybe she should too.

“Okay, don’t turn me down when I do,” She told him with a happy smile.

“Sure I won’t. I’ll be the happiest guy to have my woman propose to me” He told her as he pulled her back to him. ‘That’s if I don’t beat you to it’ He added in his mind.

“Okay,” Jade smiled happily. She had always thought about proposing to her man when she was younger. She had once thought that the lucky man would be Cale but who knew a better man would walk into her life and have the honors.

‘Hehehe…Just wait and see, I’m going to bl-owyour mind’ She giggled in her mind.

They remained like that for a while as they talked about random stuff but especially about Jake’s work and his progress with the virus.

“Babe, I have to go, it’s getting late” She heard him say which made her frown.

“But you just got here” She refuted.

“Two hours ago,” He said showing her the time. Jade sighed dee-ply when she took of the time on Jake’s watch.

It was pretty late. They have been there for two hours, but it felt like it only been half an hour. She knew he had to go and rest but she was reluctant.

Jake chortled when he saw her frown.

“You know for someone who initiated this idea for keeping us apa-rt, I didn’t expect to sulk at all”

“What do you mean?” She accused, eyeing him wickedly.

“Nothing,” He said as he held her hand and gently pulled her in.

“I’ll miss you,” He told in a gentle and soft tone, making Jade hiss.

“I’ll miss you too” She sadly replied.

“Don’t look this sad, you’re breaking my heart. Should I spend the night in your house?” He teased but she shamelessly nodded her head making him laugh.

“Your mom will chase you away,” He said amid laughter, but Jade wasn’t laughing.

“I will smuggle you in,” She told him while Jake looked at her suspiciously.

“Have you done that before?” He asked. He didn’t want to hear what he didn’t want to hear. Jade hesitated for a bit, and replied, “No”

Jake pulled her face up so he could look at her. “Are you sure?” He asked suspiciously, while Jade glared at him.

“No” She firmly replied. ‘Jealous thing.’

“Good” He patted her on the head.

“ki-ss me goodnight,” He said as he lowered his face to ki-ss, but Jade frowned at him before reluctantly complying with his request.

She ki-ssed him goodnight before he asked her to go inside before he could leave.

Jade didn’t want him to, but she decided not to be clingy. She ki-ssed his li-ps one more time and said,

“Goodnight”

*The next day*

“That woman is sure sinister. How could she do that to us? She broke our family all for what?” That was Blake’s voice echoing in Jake’s office. The veins in his head were bulging out in anger as he paced the room.

Jake had just informed him about Kyle’s situation and the results of the test Kyle had un-dergone. He had taken him to see a neurologist and they had carried out a test on him which proved that he had indeed been hypnotized and was suffering from post hynoptic recall amnesia which was as a result of the hypnosis he had un-dergone years ago.

Jake was feeling dizzy from all the pacing. He was prepping himself for the final shareholders meeting he was about to attend. Today was the D-Day but Blake just had to pick this time to rant. He sighed as he lifted his head to look at him.

“Please stop pacing around, you’re making me dizzy,” He told him as he dropped his pen to look at him. He knew Blake wouldn’t calm down until he said something convincing enough about putting an end to their evil stepmother.

“I’m not pacing” He fumed, even though he was pacing at the moment.

“I’m sure that woman killed father, that’s the only logical explanation for this. And I’m sure you know this already but you’re just keeping mute about it. Why?” Blake spat out angrily. Jake heaved a sigh and lolled back on his seat.

‘What a handful’ He hissed inwardly. Jade wouldn’t make a fuss like he was doing now. His girlfriend was more se-nsible than his brother, but he can never tell him that.

“So what if I know? I can’t accuse her of anything at the moment. Don’t forget we’re only suspecting her and nothing is sure as of the moment. Acting recklessly will only tip her off if she’s indeed guilty. So I’d advise you to stay calm and focus your energy on what’s at hand before we lose the company first” Jake said calmly to placate Blake.

Blake paused and looked at him.

“That isn’t good enough. If we can’t find evidence then we create some” Blake snarled at his brother. He didn’t un-derstand how Jake was being so calm about things. Creating and planting evidence wasn’t so ha-rd and they wouldn’t be the first people doing it.

Jake sat upright and intense his gaze on him, and said, “Stop thinking nonse-nse and stop wasting your energy on her, she’ll definitely get to pay for crimes, I’ll make sure of it.” Jake @$$ured him.

Blake narrowed his eyes on him. His look was sullen and his eyes were still red with anger.

“You better put an end to her” Blake drawled making Jake sigh exasperatedly.

“Stop bothering yourself about her. First, let’s get the company back, and then we can do the rest” He told him while Blake nodded his head affirmatively. He couldn’t wait for Hillary’s demise. That woman has turned herself into the bane of their family and only till they finally got rid of her will he feels at peace.

Jake resumed the work he had been doing on his laptop while Blake planted himself in front of him.

“So what about Kyle? Are you bringing him home?” Blake inquisitively asked while Jake lifted his lidded eyes to look at him, a quick frown forming on his face. He didn’t want to be reminded about the things he was trying to avoid at the moment.

Yesterday his mood has been so foul after he received the results for Kyle’s test. He didn’t know how to face him or talk to him. He knew he had to apologize to Kyle for how he had treated him in the past when he could have easily listened to his side of the story then and believe him. But he had acted on what he had heard and seen.

No, he realized why his father had always told him, “From everything you see, halfly believe. And for everything you hear, believe none”

If only he had been more open-minded like his father and had acted as he would.

Blake anxiously waited for Jake’s response. He couldn’t begin to imagine how ha-rd things might have been for Kyle all these years. He had suffered the most and must rese-nt them for how unfairly they had treated him. And he didn’t mind apologizing for it. Kyle has always been an older brother to him. He had seen as one since he grew up with them.

“Just focus on the issue we have at hand right now. We can talk about that later. And Grandfather still hasn’t said anything about it, so it can wait” Jake said dismissively before returning his attention to his work. Blake could tell he was trying to avoiding the discussion so he just nodded and began to finish his work.

Both brothers were still working when Jake’s secretary, Patrick, knocked on the door and stepped in.

“Sir, the shareholders are here” He informed, while Jake nodded without looking at him.

“What about Hillary?” Blake asked. The hatred he had for that woman was enough to initiate an apocalypse.

“She’s yet to arrive” Patrick replied, making Jake scoff.

“She’s planning a grand entrance.” He muttered out.

“Already feeling like the CEO, isn’t she? I hope she finds somewhere to put her face after all of this” Blake hissed.

Patrick looked at both brothers in stupefaction. He was aware of the current situation of the company and his boss, so he didn’t know why they were both relaxed when they should be busy trying to save their @$$.

“Anything else?” Jake asked when he saw Patrick still standing there.

“No sir” He replied and disappeared outside the office.

“You should be in the server room the minute the meeting starts,” Jake told him as he picked up his suit.

“I know” Blake nodded affirmatively while Jake looked at him intensely.

“Blake there can be no mistakes. Timing is esse-ntial to us” Jake warned him.

“Bro relax, I’ve got your back” He patted Jake’s shoulder @$$uringly. Jake wanted to believe he would take this seriously and not mess things up. He picked up the files on his table and headed for the board room.

He was going to kick every piece of trash out of his company today.
