The villagers living by the river side were now few, it 11pm and the it getting cold, some already go home and they few ones left were still celebrating. That’s their tradition, they always celebrate new year at the same place.
Arnold sat down helplessly by the riverside, staring into the water, it dark but they moonlight shone brightly and they were lots of lamp there as well.
“papa,” Laura his twelve year old daughter sat beside him.
“seems you’re not enjoying the celebration, today is new year yet you don’t want to be happy? Laura asked.
“it you and your mother who give me headache Laura, you’re just so stubborn and am damn tired of this life, i want to die but i don’t want to leave you behind because i know you’ll suffer much or rather you might end up being a bad girl, i just hope you change this new year,” Arnold scolded her while she stood up angrily.
“it okay Papa, am going home,” She said peskily and turn to leave, but her eyes caught something or rather someone by the shore.
“a mermaid!
“papa.. look at that,” she said pointing at what she saw. Arnold was surprise too when he saw it.
“a girl! he said very shocked. He quickly ran to see things clearly for himself and he was shocked to the little girl lying lifeless.
“she’s dead,” he said slowly.
“huh… is she a mermaid, dad let go home mom might be worried about us,” Laura said angrily.
“we can’t leave her here, and i have to make sure she’s not dead,” Arnold said as he carried her in his arms.
“so where are you taking her to? Laura asked.
“to the hospital of course, just go home am coming right away,” Arnold said while Laura hurriedly left.

A week Later….✨
Edward sign the divorce papers and Erica was satisfied with that, all she wanted was to leave his house, although she didn’t demand for any of her share or properties.
“so Edward, i guess i and Sarah will leave but believe me Sarah will always come here for as long as she want, at least am free from this marriage i put myself into,” she said to Edward who seems lost in his thoughts.
“it okay Erica, i und-erstand,” Edward said and with that Erica went to her room upstairs, she meet Sarah still crying, she was staring at Princess picture.
“are you still crying.. are you gonna kill yourself huh? Erica yelled at her.
“mom, it been a week and no one heard of Princess, i miss her so much mom,” Sarah said in tears.
“haven’t i warn you to stop crying, you hardly eat, you even refuse to go to school. Princess will never come back, she’s dead. Your damn sister is dead, so get that into your fu-cking skull and stop killing yourself slowly, by the way am no longer your father’s wife and we are leaving this house,” Erica yelled feeling so angry with the way Sarah has been crying all day and night.
“no mom, am not leaving this house until Princess comes back,” Sarah said while Erica slapped her so ha-rd on her small cheeks.
“you’re my daughter and i won’t allow you be like this, i will kill you myself if you try to mess up with me Sarah,” Erica yelled then grabbed her hair so tight.
“you’re hurting me mom,” Sarah cried.
“yes and i will keep on hurting you until the day you stop crying because of that useless sister of yours, listen to me Sarah if i ever see you cry again am gonna hurt you more than this,” Erica yelled then push her to the floor.
“now get your things ready we are leaving,” she said before walking out of the room.
Sarah wipe her tears but more tears keep falling back.
“things will never go back the way it was without you Princess, please come back home,’ she cried still staring at the picture. She quickly went to check on Mabel in her room and meet her sitting at the edge of the bed staring into space.
“mom Mabel,” Sarah said in tears as she rush and hug-ged her.
“am really sorry for everything, i still have a feeling my sister is alive somewhere,” Sarah cried.
“it not your fault Sarah.. Princess is taken away from me, my life would never be normal again,” Mabel said in tears.
“i pray she will come back one day, i have to see dad,” Sarah said then went downstairs and meet Edward lost in his thought.
“daddy,” she said in tears while he looked her.
“daddy, mom said we are leaving this house, are you angry with us, i never intend for such thing to happen to Princess,” Sarah cried while Edward hug-ged her.
“it not your fault and am not angry with you, am only angry with myself for not being able to save your sister, now Mabel has been quiet all day, she hardly talk to anyone, am just so scared. The police searched everywhere for Princess, we’ve even make an announcement on the television, newspapers and radio but nothing positive happen, it as if, we all lose Princess forever,” Edward said trying to hold back his tears.
“i will always be here for you daddy,” Sarah said in tears while Erica walked in.
“haven’t i told you to get your things ready? Erica yelled at her.
“but mom, i want to stay with dad.. i guess he need me now,” Sarah said.
“Erica.. you can leave while Sarah will stay here for the main time,” Edward said.
“okay then, but am coming to pick you here on Sunday,” Erica said then walked pas-sthem, she went to Mabel’s room.
“oh.. poor Mabel,” she said sadly then went and held her hand softly.
“am sorry, i wish Princess is here and i will help you look for her,” Erica said while Mabel just nodded.
“am really sorry Mabel, i just want to tell you am leaving, i really don’t belong here and i want you to keep enjoying your marriage with Edward, please take care of yourself and also Edward, i hope you get over this soon,” Erica said while Mabel just nodded. Erica felt so happy seeing Mabel this way.

❤Amelia was surprise when she saw Erica in her house.
“i and Edward are no more together, am no longer his wife,” Erica said.
“but why did you push throu-ghwith the divorce? Amelia asked.
“it part of the plan… i don’t want anyone to suspect me,” Erica smirk.
“but Erica.. you don’t have to kill Princess, i mean the poor girl was innocent. You see when Edward never like Sarah i did all i can to persuade him and tell him that Sarah was just a victim and she’s innocent. Why will you kill Princess? Amelia asked looking around to make sure no one was hearing their conversation.
“because i don’t want her to come back later in the future to hunt us down.. i don’t want her to ever come into our lives again, i want Mabel to suffer for this for the rest of her life,” Erica said.
“but Mabel is more better than you, she’s a good wife and i can now see things clearly for myself because Mabel is hundred times better than you,” Amelia yelled at Erica.
“i have always have a feeling you will later choose Mabel over me but it too late now because you also have a hand in what happen to your grand daughter,” Erica laughed devilishly.
“but it all your doings,” Amelia said trying to defend herself.
“no backing out ex mother in-law, Princess is already dead and once your son heard you have a hand in this am sure Edward will never forgive you,” Erica said while Patrick walked in, they seems so shocked to see him.
“i heard all you said Amelia,” he said said sadly.
“i can explain Patrick,” Amelia said in a shaky voice.
“no need to explain, i guess you should explain that to Edward. Edward and his wife are so sad right now and i don’t think their lives will ever go back to normal without Princess, how could you do that to your own grand daughter and to your son Edward, am sure he will never forgive you,” Patrick said so bitterly.
“am sorry Patrick, please hear me out first,” Amelia said already in tears.
“and you bitc-h, i have always knew you were evil and it a good thing Edward never loved you,” Patrick yelled at her wile Erica scoffed then pushed him so ha-rd and he fell on the floor.
“how dare you do this to him,” Amelia yelled in tears as she squat down and held Patrick but he wasn’t moving.
“can’t you see the old man want to expo-se us, let him just die..,” Erica said while Amelia slapped her.
“he’s my husband, don’t you even have respect for me at all, if anything bad should happen to him i will kill you myself,” Amelia yelled at her.
“your threats are always empty but mind you once you tell Edward or anyone about this i will tell Edward you’re involve in what happen to Princess and mind you both of us will rot in jail, so it better if you keep your mouth shut,” Erica said peskily then pick up her bag and hurriedly left. Amelia regretted why she even know Erica from the start, she quickly rush Patrick to the hospital.
? Amelia kept pacing up and down praying for Patrick to be alive, he’s her husband and she still love him, she regretted ever hating Mabel from the very start.
“Amelia,” the doctor called while she was shocked to hear that as she turn to the doctor, her heart was beating so fast, she wish Patrick will still be alive.
“am sorry to say his blood pressure was very high and at his age and am sorry he might not survive this,” The doctor said.
“what did you mean doc, where’s my husband? she asked in tears.
“he’s awake already but very weak, if you want you can see him but please make sure you won’t disturb him,” the doctor said.
Edward rushed into the hospital when he received the text message about his father.
“what happen to dad? he asked his mother.
“he sli-p and fall down, Edward you just lost Princess recently, what if something bad happen to your dad? Amelia cried.
“it okay mother. Dad is strong, am sure he’ll survive, let go and see him,” Edward said.
They went to his ward and meet him lying on the sickbay looking very weak.
“dad,” Edward said in tears as he sat down beside him.
“Amelia.. tell him.. the … the..,” Patrick said breathing so heavily.
“tell me what father? what happen? Edward asked looking at his mom.
“the truth,” Patrick finally said before giving up the ghost.
“dad,” Edward called but Mr. Patrick was quiet.
“talk to me dear, talk to me Patrick… please open your eyes and say something,” Amelia cried then quickly rushed to call the doctor.

“Am sorry, he’s death,” the doctor said after checking him out.
Five Months Later.?
Arnold receive a call from the doctor that the Girl is out Coma, he was very surprise to hear that because he even forgotten about her, he thought she might died or might not survive any of this.
“she’s awake, the girl from the river is awake,” Arnold said with a smile to his wife Mrs Kate.
“you are not bringing that evil child here, i mean we are so poor you can’t feed all of us and since she’s awake i guess she should go back to where she come from,” Kate yelled at him.
“yes papa, i don’t want to have any sibling and i don’t like the girl. Just take her anywhere you feel like but not here,” Laura said.
“but what on earth even happen to her, who knows if she’s a witch,” Kate said making Arnold to roll his eyes.
“am off to the hospital,” Arnold said then hurriedly left.
“your dad can be so crazy atimes, am not gonna let him bring that silly thing to my house or else i will kill her myself,” Kate said with a smirk while Laura smiled.
“that’s good ma’ma, i have to go and see Kendrick and some of my friends,” Laura said.
“okay,” Kate said while Laura hurriedly left too.

Arnold arrived to the hospital, as he sat down beside the little girl, her eyes were open but she wasn’t saying anything. He was holding the ne-cklace he found on her ne-ck that same night he picked her up.
“doc, is she perfectly fine now? Arnold asked.
“not yet but she’ll get better soon,” the doctor replied.
“this was the ne-cklace i found on her ne-ck the day i found her, i was surprise to see her there,” Arnold said.
“so what your name? He asked while she was quiet
“can you still remember your name? the doctor asked.
“well maybe her name is STARR because of this ne-cklace,” Arnold said staring at her then back to the ne-cklace.
“it look so expensive,” the doctor said.
“i.. i don’t know my name,” the girl said.
“you don’t know your name.. then who are you? he asked.
“she might have lose her memories,” the doctor said.
“i don’t know, the only thing i could remember was that, i was once in a big mansion that’s the only memory replaying in my head,” the girl said…
