Chapter 37
( she is armed with charms)
They came out of the restaurant after eating dinner. Guy insisted that he would tell her what he wanted to tell her after dinner. They decided to take a walk.
“I enjoyed dinner, Thanks”, Dorris told him.
” I enjoyed it more because you’re present”, Guy told her.
Dorris smiled.
“I agree. It is good to eat in the company of others”, she said.
Guy just smiled.
Dorris wanted bim to say whatever it is that he wants to say. Her husband is waiting at home.
Guy suddenly stopped walking.
Dorris stopped walking too and faced him.
” Actually Dorris….”,he took several breathes in.
“The thing is..”, he paused.
Then he suddenly blurted” I like you!”
He seems to gain more confidence after saying that.
“I like you so much. I always do. I want you to go out with me, Dorris. I promise to be good to you. I will never treat you wrongly”, he added.
Dorris didn’t know what to say.
” Please, Dorris. I know I’m not good enough for you but can you just consider me? If there is anything about me that you don’t like, I will change. All I want is for you to be in my life”, the guy said.
Ray couldn’t hold it in anymore. He came out of his car.
“Are you asking her to two-time me?”, he asked.
Dorris and Guy turned to look at him.
Guy raised his brows.
” Baby, today is Christmas. Yet you jilted me to be with your friend. Do you think this is appropriate?”, Ray asked Dorris, sweeping her into his arms.
“It’s so cold. Let’s go”, Ray told her.
” What is happening here?”, Guy asked.
“Isn’t it obvious? I’m her boyfriend.”, Ray said.
Guy looked at Dorris.
” I’m really sorry”, She told him.
Ray dragged her to the car.
Dorris mouthed an “I’m sorry” to Guy before she entered the car.
“Murray, don’t you think you’re so mean? You should have allowed me to reject him politely”, Dorris began immediately they enter the car.
Ray started driving.
” Then you should have rejected him time. Were you enjoying it? Have I interrupted at the wrong time?”, Ray asked.
“Why are you being sarcastic? I can not just interrupt him and reject him, that’s rude. I have to be polite so as not to hurt him so much”, Dorris explained.
” Can you stop talking about him?”, Ray asked.
Dorris sigh.
“You’re being unreasonable “, Dorris told him.
” I agree.”, Ray said.
“Don’t talk to other guys anymore or I will get jealous and do unreasonable things”, He told her.
” You too. You must not see other women too”, she told him.
“Deal”, he said.
Dorris shook her head.
” What do you want to eat?”, he asked her.
“I just ate”, she reminded him.
” But I’ve not!”, Ray said.
“Then it is your choice to choose whatever you want to eat Ray”, she told him.
” You want me to eat alone?”, he asked.
“Let’s go. I will just order dessert and accompany you”, she told him.
Ray smiled.
Harriet invited Ray to their usual hang out. She wanted to introduce Edmund to him. After all, he is the only friend she had.
” Your friend is a male?”, Edmund asked her.
“Yes. He is my brother closest friend too. The three of us uses to be very close before I travelled abroad.”, Harriet explained.
” Your brother will be around too?”, Edmund asked.
“Yes. Don’t worry. He will not give you a ha-rd time.”, Harriet as-sured.
Edmund scoffed.
“Why will I worry. He is a man like me”, Edmund said.
Harriet smiled.
” That’s the spirit”, she said.
They entered the private room and Edmund was surprised that Harriet friend is Ray Dalton. They’ve met each other in banquets and during business events.
“Oh! My brother in law is here”, Harry said.
” Hello”, Edmund greeted.
“So you’re Harriet Fiance. Nice meeting you. I hope you will be able to cope with marrying a woman like Harriet. She ‘s so stubborn”, Ray joked.
Harriet swatted his hand.
Edmund smiled.
” I think I’m man enough to cope with her”, he said .
“You said so”, Ray said and they laughed.
” I don’t know you’re her friend she is talking about. I didn’t like the fact that she had a male friend”, Edmund said.
“It’s good to wary. I’m her brother’s friend though, not hers. She was my first love”
Harriet swallowed.
Harry widen his eyes.
Edmund raise a brow.
“You don’t nee-d to be wary of me. She didn’t reciprocated my love and it faded. Now, I have someone else in my life. That lady is an armed robber who stole my heart. She is armed with charms”, Ray added.
” I can imagine how charming she is”, Edmund said relaxing.
Ray smiled.
They started drinking and the guys were discussing business. Harriet could only drink jui-ce because of her baby
After a while, Harriet said.
“Who knows I will be the first to get married among us? I’m even expecting my baby. I’m so glad”, Harriet said.
Ray smi-rked.
‘I got married before you though.’, he thought. He wished he could br@g about it right now but he could not.
“I will get married soon too. Remember, I have a fiancee”, Harry said.
” I thought your fiancee is not reciprocating your feelings?”, Ray asked.
“You should not add salt to my wound friend”, Harry said.
Ray laughed.
” I will win her heart, don’t worry”, Harry swore.
“Are you sure you are capable?”, Ray asked him.
” Of course. I’m not you that will shed tears because of a woman. Your fans nee-d to see you at that moment. Hmph!”, Harry said.
“When did I cry? Even if I did, I have the upper hand now. She is completely smitten by my charm”, Ray said.
” Are you sure you’re not the one head over heels in love for her?”, Harry throw back.
Ray scoffed.
“I will bring ber along the next time we will be meeting. You will see how pas-sionate she is about me. She is so love-struck trust me”, Ray told him.
On the other side, Edmund is asking Harriet.
” Were they usually like this?”, he asked.
“Yes. All they do is talk when they get drunk”, she said.
” Can we go now?”, she asked him. “I’m sleepy”, she added.
” What about them?”, he asked.
Harriet smi-rked.
“Don’t worry about them. They will get their as-s home”, she said.
Edmund nodded.
” Let’s go home then”, he told her.

Chapter 38
I’ve never been your suitor
Ray didn’t want to go back to the house but he had to go. His mother had called him earlier and asked him to come home for dinner.
When he got to the house he saw a woman shoe outside and he knew Ava is around. No wonder they asked him to come home. No wonder they asked him to come home. Ray is getting frustrated. When will they stop getting involve in his life, uhn? He take a de-ep breathe before entering the house.
“Young master is home”, The butler announced.
” Ray is home”, His mother said and beckoned to him.
“Come on. Ava is here”
“You didn’t mention that she will be here”, Ray said taking his seat.
He wouldn’t blame his parents, they married for business sake too and it worked out for them. They learn to care for each other and tolerate the other partner but they nee-d to un-derstand that he is not interested in arranged marriage.
” It skipped my mind”, Mrs Dalton said.
It didn’t skip her mind. Ava told her not to tell Ray that she will be around.
Ray knew his mum his lying.
“Did it?”, he asked.
Mrs Dalton smiled.
” I’m not obligated to tell you, Am I?”, she asked.
Ray sigh. He won’t argue with them.
“The twin father sent me an invitation to his daughter marriage”, Mr Dalton began.
” Awnnn. Little Harriet is getting married already. When is it that she was such a crybaby? Children grow so fast.”
“I heard Harry is engaged to one of his dad business partner daughter. Business related relationship is still the best in our circle. A gentleman should marry a prim and proper woman of virtue.”, Mrs Dalton said.
” Can a woman of virtue only come from a wealthy family? Isn’t that a wrong and discriminating as-sumption? Is it all wealthy heirs that are gentlemen? I doubt that.”, Ray said.
“I’m not even a gentleman my self. Don’t forget, I’m once a popstar.”, he added.
The expression of the three people in the room is awful.
” What are you talking about?”, his mother asked.
“Are you thinking of going back to be a singer? You shameless son!”, Ray father asked.
Then he turned to his wife.
” This is all your fault”, he said.
Mrs Dalton kept quiet. It’s probably all her fault like her husband had stated. She should not have allowed him to venture into the entertainment industry in the first place. Her husband was actually against it from the start but Mrs Dalton pampered Ray since he is her younger son. He had all her attention and since his elder brother is ready to take over H&D group, She pleaded with her husband to allow Ray to do what he wants. She allowed him to venture into the industry.
“Dad, I never mentioned that I’m going back to the entertainment industry.”, Ray told the man.
” Then what are you implying?”,the older man asked. “If you dare go back to that industry, A lot of people will suffer”
That’s what he knows best. Threatening people.Ray sneered.
“You should really stop this dad. Threats? It won’t work on me anymore”, Ray said.
” Murray”, his mother called his full name.
“What’s wrong with you. You’re past puberty stage so why are you rebelling now?”, she asked him.
Ray wanted to say something but Ava puts in.
” Dinner is ready…. I think”
The parents and child turn to look at her.
Ava is already getting irritated.
Ray mum sighed. She did not like Ava witnessing everything that is happening but she couldn’t stop her husband so she had to exercise her authority in her child even though she is not sure he will listen.
The butler decided to step in to save the awkward situation.
“Dinner is ready”, the butler said.
Mr Dalton cleared his throat.
” Let’s eat”, he said and stood up making his way to the Diner table.
They all sat down and the maids carefully serve the food. They were aware of the tense situation and none of them want to get his or herself into trouble.
Mr Dalton was seating at the head of the table and Mrs dalton was right beside him in the left, Ray and Ava by the right.
“Ava, you love jelly right?”,Mrs Dalton asked.
” Yes , I do”, Ava replied.
“It’s available for dessert”, Ray mum said.
” Thank you ma”, Ava replied.
They started eating. When they finished the main course, the servant bring dessert to the table.
“Uncle”, Ava called.
” Yes, Ava”, Mr dalton replied.
“It’s new year in two days and I will like it if the two family could eat dinner together”, Ava said.
Mrs Dalton smiled.
” That’s a nice Idea, my dear”
“So thoughtful”, Mr Dalton added.
“I’ve picked a very nice restaurant. I’ve also made reservations. I….”
“I hope I’m not included in that dinner?”, Ray asked.
He wondered if Ava is really so shameless. How can she be using his family against him. And the most irritating is that his family are allowing themselves to be used by a younger generation.
” What do you mean, Ray. We are meeting your in laws”, His mother said.
“Mum, are you forgetting things. I’ve already informed you that I’m not getting married to Ava.”, Ray told them.
” You bastard, what are you implying?”, his father asked flaring up again.
“You can just have the dinner as family friends. Stop having it in mind that I will marry the constance daughter. I have told her several times that I’m not..”
His phone beeped. It is a message from Ava.”Interested in her. I don’t even like her. She is not my style and I don’t want to have children from her. I can’t stand her presence….”
“Ray”, his mother cuts in.
He read Ava message.
Ava_keep quiet or I will tell him about Dorris.
” Uncle,..”Ava was saying when Ray cut in.
“Dad, I have someone else I’m in love with. If you want me to get married, it will either be her or no one”, Ray said.
Ava went pale. She didn’t believe he will really tell his father himself.
” What are you saying, Ray?”, his father asked gritting his teeth. He is very angry.
“I’m saying you should stop forcing your choice on me”, Ray said.
His father threw the dessert Fork at him and he dodge it.
” Calm down”, Mrs Dalton was telling her husband.
Ava burst to tears adding to the tension.
“I’m so embarras-sed. When I have so many suitors yet I’m being treated like this. This isn’t fair”, She said in tears.
Ray scoffed.
She is so irritating.
Such a manipulative woman.
“To make it fair is your choice. Go to your other suitors. I’ve never being your suitor!”, he told her harshly.
He knew he is mean but he will do anything to protect his woman.
