Chapter 23
(Far from being gentle)
Dorris is about to go out to meet Ray when she saw the text.
Something is wrong. Ray had never stood her up. What happened to him?
Maybe she was just over- thinking. Maybe he is just busy at work and had to work overtime.
She sent a text
Dorris__Okay. Don’t work too ha-rd. Take care of yourself.
Dorris sigh.
She called Ashley.
Dorris📞_Hey Ash. Wanna come out for dinner. Let’s have a ladies time.
Ash📞_Oh! Okay
Dorris📞_I will send the address. The last to arrive is paying the bill.
Ash📞_(laughed) Why do I smell trickery here?
Dorris📞_( laughing) I’m not using any trick. I’m really in my dorm.
Ash📞_Then I will pick the restaurant.
Dorris📞_Ok! I will still get there before you.
Ash📞_we shall see.
While still on the call. Dorris hurriedly pull on her shoe and practically run out of the house. She is paying no bill.
Ashley and Dorris ran into each other outside the restaurant. Immediately Dorris saw her, she did not even exchange greetings and ran into the restaurant.
Seeing this, Ashley laughed.
Dorris can be so funny. She just didn’t want to pay the bill. The truth is Dorris was planning to go out with Ray and he is the one who always pay the bill. She will even offer to buy desert but he will turn her down.
“You’re my woman. I will get you all you want”
Ashley entered the restaurant and Dorris call out to her.
“Ash!”
Ashley smiled. She thought she will feel guilty for dating Dorris baby brother if she saw Dorris but she did not feel uncomfortable. She felt at peace_like she did nothing wrong. Perhaps, it is not wrong. After all, Douglas is matured. He is an adult on his own.
“Hi, Dorris”
“Yeah. I got here before you”, Dorris said shamelessly.
Ashley shook her head.
” Aren’t you too stingy, uhn?”, She asked.
“Your boyfriend is Ray Dalton for goodness sake!”, Ashley added.
Dorris swallowed.
” He offered me a credit card but I rejected it. Why will I take it? It is not as if we are married.”
Ashley smiled.
“Why are you dressed like someone who is going on a date?”, Ashley asked.
” I was supposed to be out with Ray but he is busy”, Dorris said.
“Oh! Let’s order and talk”, Ashley said.
” What? Can you repeat what you just said?”, Ashley asked.
“I said Ray wants me to marry him”
“That’s a joke?”, Ashley asked.
” Well, it’s not”
“Then what is it?”, Ashley asked.
” I can’t believe it when he said it. There are so many reasons to not marry him. We are two world apart. It’s two early to get married. We’ve not known each other for long.
He had a fiancee. He is a public figure.
I’m just an upcoming artiste. People are going to talk. I don’t think is parents will accept him. I know I will have to retire from the entertainment industry to get married but it’s too soon. Don’t you think?”
“Babe, I meant to say what is it that is stopping you from accepting his proposal? You wants flowers? You don’t like the ring? Babe, stop making all those baseless excuses. You’re the one that is too good for him. In as much as you love him and he love you, you can go ahead and get married”
“Do I love Ray?”, Dorris asked.
” Are you asking me?”, Ashley asked raising her brow.
“Shouldn’t you know better?”,
Dorris sigh.
” I don’t know. I can’t tell”,Dorris is said.
Ashley just smiled.
“Douglas called me and said he found a job”, Dorris stated.
” Yeah! An as-sistant secretary. Isn’t he capable?”, Ashley asked.
“How do you know?”, Dorris asked.
” He called me too.”
“But he didn’t mention to me that he is an as-sistant secretary. I don’t see anything good about being an as-sistant secretary. I don’t think he can date with that salary. Ashley, do you think I should introduce girls to him? I know girls that….”
“Why will you introduced girls to him?”, Ashley cuts in, almost yelling.
Dorris raise a brow.
Ashley swallowed.
” Don’t you think he is too young to date?”, she asked Dorris.
“He is over eighteen. He is an adult.”, Dorris said.
” Don’t introduce girls to him. He just started working and his salary is not that much. If he nee-ds girls, he will find for himself “, Ashley stated.
Dorris shook her head.
” you don’t know brother. He is too shy to talk to ladies. I don’t think he even knows how to ask a lady out. He is too cool and gentle.”
Ashley sm-irks.
‘You don’t know your brother at all. I know him more than you do. He is too shy? Nonsense. He don’t know how to ask ladies out? I wish! He is cool? Not at all. He even make his girlfriend do things for him, practically ripping me off. Gentle? I laugh in spanish. Come and see him ki-ssing me…… He is nothing close to gentle. Trust me my friend, your brother is a rogue!’
“Let him make his choices, Dorris. Focus on your own relationship”, Ashley told her.
Dorris nods.
” I should ”
Harriet hurried out of her room all dressed.
“You’re going out?”, Edmund asked her drinking his tea.
Harriet walked to the dining and pick a toast.
” Yes. I’m bored staying all alone in the house”
“More reasons you should go back to help your brother out in the company”
“My brother don’t nee-d my help.”,
She drank tea.
” I’m going with you to your office. Can I?”, she asked.
“No you can’t”, he said.
“C’mon Ed. I will be in my best behavior. I’m already gentle. I will even be more gentler.”, She told him.
” You are far from being gentle, Harriet”
Harriet pout her li-ps.
“Ed. Pls”
“Harriet, No”
“Please, I promise not to be a nuisance”
Edmund pick his brief case.Harriet take her bag and run after him.
Edmund sigh.
He knew he will not be able to say no to her anyway.

(Let’s go out💕)
Harley noticed the man is unlike himself today. Unlike other days, he just drove silently without saying anything to her.
“Harley, you nee-d to answer my question”, he began, he looks grim.
” Ask”
“What our parents did, is just matchmaking. I should have asked this earlier. Do you want to go out with me like our parents are suggesting or do you want to break the merger?”, Harry asked pulling over.
” Why are you asking this? We will be late to the banquet. Let’s go.”, Harley told him.
“Harley, answer me.”
“I’m not against the merger. Do I look like I’m against it or something?”, she asked.
Harry bits his li-ps.
” So we are formally in a relationship. Don’t you think you are not allowed to see other guys?”, he asked her.
“Other guys?”, she asked.
” Yes. Do you want to deny it?”, he asked her.
“Harry, I’m not seeing any guy”, Harley said.
” Yes, you are. Who is the guy you met the other day. That guy you ate dinner with?”, Harry asked.
Harley scoffed.
“You must be silly. Are you asking people to watch me?”, She sigh.
” For your information, that guy is my best friend and he is married. His wife is our friend too. The three of us used to be best friend. Even though I’ve had a crush on him before, I’m over it now. We just ate dinner and discuss business. I’m disappointed in you “, The lady said.
She opened the door and get out of the car.
Harry sigh.
He shouldn’t have done that but he wanted to clear things. If he didn’t asked her, he would not be able to stop thinking about it. That’s why he decided to talk about it.
Ashley got out from shower and checked her phone.
No missed call yet.
She is expecting Douglas call. Her boyfriend will call her in the morning to say good morning. In the afternoon during lunch break and in the night before sleeping.
She was drying her hair when the phone rang.
She hurriedly picked the call.
Toby walked out of the studio and walked to where the belles are rehearsing.
He saw that she is there.
He walk to her.
” Let’s go out, Victoria”, he said.
The belles awnned.
“I will take care of you don’t worry. Just be my girlfriend.”
Vickey cheeks are still pink. She was so embarras-sed.
“It’s not even a proposal, why do you do it where people are watching? Can’t you learn to be low key?”
“Sorry”, he said.
Vickey rolled her eyes.
” Why are you sorry?.”, she sigh.
“Let’s see a movie”, she added.
” We should do something on our first day as couples.”, She said.
“Shall we?”, Toby asked smiling.
Harriet and Edmund decided to go on a stroll around the restaurant they ate dinner before going home.
” The dinner is so good. Let’s come back here some other time.”, Harriet told him.
“Okay”, Edmund replied.
” I want Ice- cream”, Harriet said pointing to the ice- cream stand not to far away.
“Who will line up for that? I don’t”, Edmund asked.
“But I want that”, Harriet insisted.
Edmund went still. It is like the world just stop. Like the clock stop tickling.
” What….”, Harriet stop when she followed his gaze and saw her.
A lady in a white dress was standing there. She looked like a fairy.
Harriet felt threatened. Women as pretty as Harriet ha-rdly felt that way_but this lady is pretty.
Harriet looked at the lady very well.She used to be a model.
Harriet wondered who she is to Edmund. She felt that she didn’t nee-d to wonder.
She is either his Ex or his first love. The world that just stop seems to be spinning again when the lady took steps towards them. The lady in white was smiling.
“Long time, no see”, She said.
” hmm”, was Ed response.
Harriet wondered what the history between them is.
The lady gaze fell on Harriet.
“Who?”, She asked.
” I’m Harriet”, Harriet introduced. The lady ignored her and turned to Edmund.
“Is she your girlfriend?”, She asked.
Edmund look at Harriet and then the lady.
” yeah”, was his response this time around.
He turned to her.
” Harriet, can you leave first?”, he asked her.
Harriet could not really explain her feelings right now. Perhaps, AWFUL.
Harriet did not know why she is feeling this way. She is nothing to him anyway. Even though he just call her his girlfriend, Harriet know that the woman in white is more important than she is.
“Ok”, Harriet said and walk away almost breaking into a run.
She entered the bar and ordered beer.
She gulped down three bottle in few minutes.
She is so sad. Why? She don’t know. She is finally over her Ex and her mind is finally clear about what she wants and did not. And now, the man she wants is seeing his Ex again.
Edmund looked flustered earlier. What if he go back to his Ex. That woman in white is beautiful and alluring.
“Can a get a bottle of Vodka pls?”, She ordered.
” Why are you drinking? “, She heard the familiar voice.
She ignored him.
” Let’s go”, he told her.
“Who are you to tell me to go and to not?”, Harriet asked him.
” Aren’t you with your first love?”, She asked him.
“She is no more my first love but the woman who broke my heart and with that he dropped cash on the counter. He came back and pick her up.
” Your change….”
“Keep it”, and he walk out of the bar.
” Let go of me”, Harriet said struggling and hitting him.
He finally drop her.
“Do you think you can play with my heart?”, she asked.
” I didn’t play with your heart, Harriet.”
“Then why did you call me your girlfriend and still tell me to leave for ….”
She couldn’t continue not because she didn’t want to or has no more words to say but because she was ki-ssed.
Harriet didn’t want to open up but he was very domineering. She gave him room and he explored her mouth with his tongue. She wrapped her hands around his ne-ck and ki-ssed him back.
He stopped still holding her chin and looking into her eyes.
“We didn’t break up before she left. I wanted to clear things with her”, Edmund explained.
