Chapter 15

Sky tapped on my shoulder and I pulled away from the plate. He grabbed my empty plate and dropped it on his before walking out of the dinning.

I was now left alone with Jared whom was sitting across the table. He was on his phone and I gathered my things in my school bag.

“Umbrie, your best friend is Daphne, right?” He asked and I nodded.

“You have to be careful with her. You don’t even know her well enough, alright? I saw her visiting the old witch. People like that are not good people.” He said and I arched my brows.

Daphne…

“What are you doing at the witch’s place anyway?” I asked sm-irking at him.

“I was um… None of your business.” He got up, picked up a bouquet of flowers before leaving with it.
I smiled when I realized they must be for Tiana.

I rushed out to take the uber i called. When he arrived, I got in and he took me to Mr Diaz’s company – Keiran’s father.

I got throu-ghsecurity and after waiting for an hour, I was finally allowed to see him.
He was facing his monitor when I entered.

“Umbrie? What are you doing here?” He asked facing me.

“Have you found out where Keiran was?” I asked and he sighed.

“It’s his privacy if he doesn’t want to say anything about it.”

“How can you say that? What if something happened again, how would you trace him?”

“He will always come back, you don’t have to trouble yourself. He’s a strong wolf” He answered.

“Keiran is not whom he was. I think you should look into it and stop being heartless.”

“Are you serious?”

“Yes! Start by calling the people incharge of the CCTV camera at the airport, bus station, train station. Let’s know where he boarded off to on that day.”

He rolled his eyes as he brou-ght out his phone.

“Here.” He said after some seconds. “The investigator handling the case before he returned said he was last seen at a train station heading to Rolpines city that day.”

“Did you investigate how he returned?” I asked and he shook his head.
“Then, let’s try that. Call the detective and ask him to check what happened on that day. How he got in front of your home.”

“Fine. I’ll bring the detective here and you work with him, I have better things to do.” He said brushing me off as he continued working on his monitor.
I stormed to one of his chairs and sat down on it.

As he walked on his monitor, he glanced at me as he drank some coffee and I fixed him at the sp-ot with cold glares. He nervously dropped cop back.

The detective arrived minutes later and we started checking the footages from that day. A car dropped Keiran off in front of his house. The detective copied the number plate of the car and se-nt it to the tracking team at the headquarters.

We waited for two hours before they reported back to us and that the car was from Rolpines, and it was currently packed in front of a hu-ge house in Rolpines.

“Now that you know, what exactly do you intend to do?” Keiran’s father asked glaring at me.

“I’m going there. We have to search that house and make sure it’s ordinary before closing the case.” I replied.

“Why can’t we just ask the boy—”

“No! Let’s not let him know until we are done.” I stated and Mr Diaz seemed to be down as he got up from his chair.

“I will go with you. I hope this is not a fruitless search.” He breathed.

I smiled as the three of us left the office. I gave a quick call to Alpha Damien so he’d help us in case we were dealing with fellow wolves.

Rolpines was an hour way and it felt like the longest ride of my life because I was eager to be at that house and know what’s going on.
We finally arrived — Mr Diaz, Alpha Damien, the detective and I — at the beautiful house.

But I caught something too soon. Scattered scents of…
Rogues.
There were rogues here, I could tell by how rou-ghtheir scent was. Too rou-gh.
Alpha Damien and I exchanged glances. He knows too.

The detective had his gun in his hand and we proceeded the house.

I rang the doorbell and after what seemed like ages, the door opened to reveal a young lady wearing a smile.
She is a werewolf.

“Why hello. What brings you here?” She asked and the detective spoke up.

“Here to search the house.” He showed her the warrant we got from the local police here. “Is this your house, ma’am?”

“Yes ”

“How do you know Keiran Diaz?”

She looked around and shook her head..
“No…I don’t know him”

“The car outside, is it yours?”

She remained quiet.
We pushed into the house for-cefully while she tried to stop us, Alpha Damien held her down.
The detective went upstairs while I was at the living room. There were several people sitting around with alcohols and cigarettes but they froze on seeing us.

Mr Diaz gave me a p@$$ive look as he stood by the door staring at me.
Geez, what do I do?
Suddenly, the people sitting at the living room got up and started a fight with Alpha Damien and the detective.

There was chaos as they tried to make us leave.
I’m so scared that I ran towards a door. I got in and realized there was stairs that led down somewhere. I took the stairs with shaky legs. What if there was a dangerous animal down there? By the way, I’m a dangerous animal too.

The stairs was a long one and I was finally on ground. I bought out my phone and turned on the flashlight.
Walking slowly towards nothing in pa-rticular.

I saw a metal door at the end of the basement. I looked around before heading towards it. I pulled back the bolt and stepped into the room.
I froze when I saw him chained by his legs. Keiran!
And for the first time, I was sure it was him. I rushed to where he was and pulled on the chain.
He was just staring at me like I had gone crazy.

“Why are you quiet? How…how do I get rid of this?” I asked breathlessly.

“Just shift and rip it off.” He replied.
I stepped back and shifted before ravaging the metal and tearing it off him like a maniac.

Afterwards, I turned back and put my clothes back together.

“What’s going on upstairs?” He asked touching his ankles where the chains had been.

“Your dad and Alpha Damien is here with a detective. How come you’re two though?” I asked leaving the room with him.

“This rogues wanted a spy who would infiltrate our pack without getting caught so they got this guy and had a witch turn him into me. She also took my scent and made him look like me.”

“Since when did this happen?”

“A month ago. They really wanted to kill me. It’s crazy how they just let me be.” He chuckled and tried to walk but suddenly, he fainted as his eyeba-llsdisappeared into his head.

I gasped holding his arm. It felt so cold.

Chapter 16

• Umbrie’s POV •
It has been a while since I visited the hospital and I never missed it for once.
I was sitting on a chair next to the bed Keiran laid on with his eyes closed. He has been unconscious since we returned from Rolpines and the doctor — Alpha Damien told us he was starved, dehydrated, malnourished and too stressed.
He had to give him some vitamin shots.

The rogues escaped and the detective decided not to file a case because Alpha Damien spoke to him against it. I think it’s the best thing to do too.
Keiran was kidnapped but a lot could go wrong if a rogue was put in prison. The chaos would be too much.

The chaos was already too much since the fake Keiran has been taken to the pack house.
The weird pa-rt was that he still looked like Keiran and I guess whatever spell or potion he was using was yet to ru-b off him.

Just then, Keiran woke up with his eyes opening wide. He blinded for some seconds as though he was making out where he was. He winced wiggling his feet.

“The chains…” He muttered sitting up on the bed and I offered to help him.
“It’s alright.” He said doing it on his own.

He tou-ched his head while looking around.
I never thought a witch’s power would be powerful enough to pull out something like this.

The perfect brown eyes, his hair, voice and accent. Everyfu-cking detail. She left nothing out.
I can’t believe he was their target and they succeeded.

After feeding his eyes enough with the environment, he wiggled back un-der the blanket and dropped his head on the pillow.
Dramatic.

“How do I know you’re the real Keiran, Keiran?” I asked showing off my smug.

He rolled his eyes and didn’t say anything.

“When is my birthday?” I asked fondling with my fingers.

“Third of May.” He simply replied and I flushed.

I’m just pla-ying with him but maybe it’s necessary. I feel so insecure especially when I remembered kizzing the other guy. It never occurred to me until things turned more complicated.

“What did I loose last summer and cried over?” I quizzed bashfully.

“Your notebook.” He breathed out with a shrug.

Okay, if he knows that, he is the real Keiran! No one else knew about the incident except the two of us. I was so emotional that day and cried at a corner and he was with me.

We talked about what he was doing in Rolpines. He was a video gamer and sorted games tests for companies. I really thought he was punishing me but he left because of his father. He made him leave and he wanted to survive on his own. He wanted to come back home before he got kidnapped.
He said something that caught my attention though, those people knew him. They knew we were paired and they knew Keiran’s friends. How did they know so much about us…huh?

His parents and doctor Damien came in later carrying some food with them. Keiran straight up rejected the food and said he’d eat later at night.
Doctor Damien injected him with something and he slept in a matter of seconds.

“He has to rest some more before I relief him of the dose.” He said checking his wrist watch.
Mr Diaz nodded and sat down on the free chair.

“I can’t believe that imposter was hiding right un-der my house. He lived the life that was meant for my son. I don’t care if he replaced Keiran for just few weeks, I want him dead. Rip him apa-rt. Burn him with fire.” Mrs Diaz said angrily.

I almost laughed because she never really cared about her son. Even if she did, she put other things first before him. So watching her go all mama bear was hilarious.

“I’ve handled the boy, the old witch has reversed the spell and we now have his real identity. Once I get back there, we’ll interrogate him properly. There must be more reasons why they did this. Those rogues have a motive.” Doctor Damien said after making sure no one was outside the ward.

“I’m really sorry, Umbrie for how I reacted. I should have known better.” Mr Diaz said calmly.

I smiled. “It’s okay, sir.”

“I’ve canceled my meetings. I will stay here with my son.” He said directing it to his wife whom looked worried.

My phone started ringing and I quickly answered it while stepping away from them. It was Jared calling.

“How are you? Are you okay? You didn’t get hurt, right?” His voice came up immediately.

“No, I’m fine. Keiran is the one sick. He’s dehydrated.” I said unable to hide how sad I was about it.

“I’m kind of happy this sh*t is sorted out. That je-rk I punched wasn’t Keiran. Anyways, wanted to let you know that a state of emergency was announced by Alpha and all the warriors are guarding the vulnerable borders of Ice Valley. Those rogues might try to do something stupid to save the boy.”

“Then who is with Louis?” I asked in panic.

“Louis?” He asked confused.

“Yes, the boy that faked Keiran. Who is watching him?”

“Beta. Clint has his eyes on him.” He replied and I nodded.
We hung up and I reached for my bag.

“Where are you going to?” Alpha asked and I paused.

“I’m going home. I nee-d to take care of Sky.” I said.

“Okay, great work today. See you later.” He said and I waved at everyone before leaving.

I got home and found mom having dinner with Sky. I joined them and mom talked a lot about work while we ate.
After that, I spend the night in Sky’s room.
