CHAPTER 13

• Jared’s POV •
It was finally my turn and I entered the meeting room. The door automatically shut on its own and I saw the old lady sitting opposite the wooden carved table. She had her back against me but I was able to notice her grey hair which was more shinier than it was before.

“You wolverine. I haven’t seen one since today.” She said, her voice strong like that of a young woman.
She must be using a spell because someone her age should be dead by now.

I coyly paced around before taking a seat on a bench.
The whole place was heavily decorated with native ornaments like during ancient times.

“What do you know about me, mother?” I asked fixating my eyes at her back.

“I know this is not the real reason you are here but anyway… I know you are yet to be blessed by the moon goddess and it infuriates you.” She replied and chuckled slightly.
She slowly turned around, our eyes meeting face to face.

“Anything else..?” She asked wearing a sm-irk.
Such a pla-yful cunning woman. Her response really hurt me. Ouch.
“What do I do to stop being possessive over who I’m not supposed to?” I questioned not returning gestures of her welcoming face.

“Does Tiana bite?” She rhetorically asked and i clenched my fist.

“Doesn’t matter. I just want to figure things out. Am I missing something? Is there somewhere else i should look in order to find my soul mate?” I persisted.

“Life would be boring if everything just got handed to you, don’t you think? Why are you troubling your soul when you are still very young and have a long way to go, hmm? I can not give you a definite answer because the moon goddess is not revealing to me what you desi-re and I am unable to see your future. We just have to let fate take its course. If that would be all—”

“Wait.” I immediately said and she paused. “Just check. Check your bowl…”

The witch squinted her eyes for a moment before looking into her bowl. Her face was stern but after a few seconds, she smiled.

“There is @$$urance of your mate. She is very beautiful too. Just be on your best behavior on the day you shall find her. Don’t be so grumpy, alright? ”
I nodded uncertainly.
I hope she’s right about it.

“Alright, then. Thank you.” I bowed after getting up from the chair. She waved her hand and I bowed again before leaving. I returned to the waiting room so find out Daphne had left. There was no sign of her.

She might have come to find out about her exam or any issue. I can’t conclude but yet something doesn’t seem right. I could feel it.

• Next Day •

• Umbrie’s POV •
It was the day of teen exercise. The warriors would be the one to help us push throu-ghwith the exercises and organize us.
I came right on time to join the others for warm up.

There was zi-porah, the oldest among us. She was very strong and had graduated highschool. She was quite fast with her education and I heard she would be going to college soon but she wasn’t yet considered as a werewolf that was old enough to train with the warriors. There was a gap. She was mated to a human boy though and they are dating too.
Then there was C@$$ie. She has a beautiful wolf and is mated to Guy whom is also here for the exercise. They go to our school but we are cl@$$es apa-rt. I talk to her like we are close friends here at the pack house but once we are out there, she’s there and I’m somewhere else. I love her relationship with Guy. They’re the cutest.

There’s Stone, the guy I thought I might be mated to. He’s gorgeous with his brown skin and blue eyes. His wavy hair threw me away when I was still little. I could say I had strong feelings for him but it gradually faded away as I got older.
Lastly, Landon. A total jovial and kind guy, he is mated to Elena, whom is a year older than him. He panicked at first but right now, they are glued to each other and to think Elena is an early warrior. She’s strong and I admire her great skills.

I was so happy to be wearing the cute uniforms giving to us, specially made by Alpha Damien’s mate – Louisa whom was from another pack but she started staying here.
Yeah, we were one big family.

I was looking around for someone though and that was none other than Keiran. Haven’t heard from him all day. I keep thinking about that absurd dream which confuses me so much. If that I’d not the real Keiran, then who was he?
A question for no one in pa-rticular.

We started first with the race.
We first shifted into our wolves like we were thought to and then ran out in the woods after the gun shot was heard. I tried to keep up since I hadn’t been practicing regularly.

I kept following the path growling and pa-nting as well took a sharp turn. C@$$ie ended up falling at the turn and luckily, Jared was there to get her up as she shifted back to a wolf.

I howled uncontrollably as I dashed throu-ghthe finish line.
Fourth.
I came fourth.

I fell on the floor due to exhaustion. I’m such a weak wolf. I felt so bad that I could cry. I shifted and we were immediately taken to change to fresh wears.

I saw Alpha Damien while walking to the next activity stand. I saw him earlier but we weren’t close as we were now. He was holding onto Louisa so ti-ghtly.

“Have you seen Keiran since yesterday?” I asked him and he shook his head.

“I haven’t. What’s the problem?” He asked knowing there was obviously a problem.
I snuck in a quick breath.

“No…don’t worry. It’s nothing.” I ran off so I can give him some privacy with Louisa since she looked like she wasn’t feeling well.
One thing I know is that they’re lucky to have each other.
Unlike me who is unlucky to have Keiran. I laughed at the thought. I should just crawl un-der a rock.

The next task was catching noises. Four members of the warriors wearing T shirts that said A B C D respectively sat in front of us and they all had their backs turned on us.
We were holding a pen and paper.
The rule was, when you hear a sound, you put down the letter of the warrior you think made the sound and you also write what you heard.

It was tough, so tough guessing who spoke that it gave me headaches. I gave it my all..
Paying maximum attention. It was like I was having a spiritual connection with the sounds. Everywhere was silent…

Silence…

Then I heard ‘o-r-a-n-g-e’
That’s right and it was coming from…
It was coming from…
Letter C!
I quickly wrote it down with my hands shaking.

I could feel my ears twitching. It was going to help my wolf but still, it was a lot of stress.
After the section was over, we submitted our papers with our names on it. While we got ready for our next activity, the warriors marked our answer sheets.

When we came out for the next activity, our papers were returned back to us. I scored 5 out of 10 voices. It was low but I still felt a bit happy that I got some correct at all. I was expecting immense failure. No kidding.

And Stone got the highest score, 8 out of 10.
He must be a were-wizard!

We did push ups in order to strengthen our muscles in our human form. It’ll help us shift better.
We stretched and the warriors helped us out with the exercise.
The last activity after so many other things was getting our furs messaged. We shifted and our furs was ru-bbed on se-nsitively. That was the best activity among the others.

While we concluded, Guy and I carried a basket full of water to share to the warriors. I was handing them out nicely when I got to the Beta, Clint. He saw me that day at the club. And that’s all.. Haven’t really spoken to him.
I offered him a bottle of water but he ignored me and took one from Guy. I scoffed and brushed past him.
He is the least of my problems right now and he didn’t even know exactly what went down that day.
I heard him stutter and point fingers at me but I didn’t pay any attention to him.
Guy laughed while walking behind me.

I’m not usually rude but I was exhausted and frustrated. Keiran frustrates me.
He is the mate I didn’t want. Or maybe didn’t nee-d.
I wish the moon goddess gave Jared a mate rather than give me one that keeps haunting me in a bad way.

After sharing the water, I grabbed my back pack and left the pack house.
I’m walking home. It was the best thing to do so I don’t go home right now and yell at everyone.

The road was so quiet and I could only hear my footsteps. My mind couldn’t stop from thinking about some of my memories with Keiran.
How he’d make me so mad and drive me crazy just because he was bored and wanted to hear my voice. I’d fight him but he never let’s me win. And then he didn’t ask me for anything, he’d impose whatever he wanted on me and that’s why I’m shocked he wasn’t as aggressive as he was.
He was behaving like someone who went to rehab or something. Maybe I actually liked the way he tormented my life before, rather than the way he confuses me since he got back.

I won’t give up. I’ll get to the bott-om of this.
I decided to go to his house again hoping his mother wouldn’t be around.

Chapter 14

“Keiran, where were you?” I asked with my arms folded. He sighed and stepped away from the window.

“I just wanted some time alone. Don’t you ever feel like being alone once in a while?”

“Don’t reply me with questions, Keiran. You have been behaving strange since you returned. Is that really you, Keiran? You can’t even tell me where you were for the past six months?…” I paused when I realized this conversation was going nowhere.
He is like a fat rock that won’t budge.

I took a de-ep breath as he remained mute.
I know what to do…

Leaving his room, I slammed the door so ha-rd.

I found myself heading to the club where he normally spends time drinking with his friends. As I entered the unfriendly place, I could see girls doing a poll dance and some guys smoking around.

I approached the two sitting at a table. It was Hillary and Ace.
I sat on the third chair and they quickly looked at me.

“Umbrie? What…what brings you here?” Hillary asked stuttering.

“Wanted to ask you both some questions about Keiran. Something’s wrong—” I paused when Hillary tou-ched my hair removing something. He waved it in my face. It was a leaf.

“Have you been rolling in dirt?” Ace asked and I chuckled.
More like I’ve been walking throu-gha forest.

“Are you guys going to help me?” I quizzed when I noticed the bored look on Hillary’s face.

“I’m sorry, Umbrie. But I can’t don’t think I can help you.” Hillary muttered and to my surprise, he got.up from the chair and walked away.

I slowly turned my head to Ace.

“Forget about him. He’s such a loyal freak. Weirdfu-cker. So, what do you want to know Umbrie?”

I smiled at the positive response from Ace.
Wasn’t really expecting Hillary to walk out from me.

“Well, he has been acting strange. You have been his friend for a long time. Do you notice any change, hmm? After he returned?” I asked having the detective vibes.
He sipped from the gl@$$ of what I presumed to be beer.

“Nothing much changed, I mean, He’s still a co-cky arsehole but he doesn’t seem to remember some memories I’ve had with him. Like our favorite football club, he really didn’t p@$$ that one. He’s a lot much caring now than his stupid ‘i don’t care’ attitude. In all the same, I think he’s changed now.” He replied and I nodded.

So, my suspicions are right then. There’s no going back. I can solve the mystery.

“Should I buy you a drink, sweetie?” Ace suddenly asked and I nervously shook my head.
“No…no. I’m fine. Enjoy!” I bid him before running off.

The skies were dark when I stepped out, I knew it was getting late.

I was walking past the people going into the club when a rou-ghhand gripped mine. He dragged me the opposite way and I yelped.

“Let me go!” I yelled discovering they were two men.

“You little high school b**ch. You came alone?” The one holding me ruefully questioned.

All of a sudden, Hillary showed up and yanked the man off me. He for-ced them to back away before grabbing my wrist and leaving with me.

I was so startled. If Hillary didn’t come to.my rescue, I would have given him a kick he’d never forget.

We got to his car and we entered in a jiffy.

“I will take you home.” He said driving off from the parking lot.
I rolled my eyes.
“Don’t bother. Stop the car, right now.” I stated raising my voice.

“Stop being difficult, Umbrie.”

“Well, you didn’t want to help me back there. You didn’t hear me out. You just walked away, why can’t I do the same now?”

“Relax, okay. I have my reasons.”

Yeah, right. I rolled my eyes. “I un-derstand that you love Keiran so much to talk about him behind his back —”

“What thefu-ck? I don’t love the idiot.” He chuckled.
Then his voice came low. “I didn’t want Ace to hear what I was gonna say so I waited outside for you. Are you ready for what I’m about to say?” He questioned wearing a sm-irk and I nodded vehemently.

“The truth is, Keiran didn’t get abused or should I say, for-ced that night.” He stopped talking as if letting me sink the words.

“He asked you to lie?” I speculated and he shook his head.

“Let me explain. He left for the bathroom but right after he left, I followed him because I was unease too. I saw him heading upstairs so I followed him. I was doing shocked when he started kizzing a girl whom is a who-re by the way. He just messed up with her which is not something he’d do. He doesn’t like girls like that.. It was so strange to see. I rushed back to our table and after a long time, Ace and the others started looking for him and that’s when we found him lying unconscious in an empty room. He told us he was drugged. I didn’t believe him but I had to roll with it because I can’t figure everything out.”

I could feel my eyeba-llssting. My heart was starting to melt off and it hurt bad.
He did it on purpose? He hurt me on purpose?

“But he called me…twenty times before that..” I stammered.

“Apparently, he was still adjusting to his crappy phone. I guess he accidentally set it on bomb calling. He had to get a new phone the next day. And also, I know Keiran is a werewolf. I’m not sure but I think I saw a wolf or something that night —”

“No no no. That can’t be true.” I denied, nervously waving my hands at him..
It’s dangerous for him to know about us so I better clear his doubts right now.

“I think something really happened to Keiran while he was gone.” He said and I nodded.

I could just ignore Keiran’s confusing mystery but I’m scared that it might be something more serious than it seems and out of my ignorance, something bad might happen.

I brou-ght out my phone and quickly checked my list of contact. Nope, his number wasn’t there.
I switched to google, I searched Keiran’s Father’s office phone number.

Once I had it, I se-nt a message to book an appointment with him tomorrow. I think it’s time I talk some sh*t into carefree parents no matter their wealth status.

• TBC •

So…the abuse never happened?

And we are gonna meet Keiran’s father soon?.
We are closer to solving the mystery.
