CHAPTER TWELVE

I spoke to Hillary but he wasn’t of any help. He didn’t know why Keiran left too and he’s planning to go see him in his house.
Daphne was the first to speak after Hillary had left.

“What’s going on, Umbrie? What do you have with this Keiran guy? So far I’ve heard about him, he has been away for six months. What are you going to do now?” She asked sounding worried.

“I will tell you everything later. Let’s just…let’s just get to cl@$$.” I gulped walking past her.
She was looking blown off but I was too down to pay attention to her.
Keiran is behaving strange, I must admit and I nee-d to find out why…

After a tough day at school, I decided to visit him before going to study cl@$$. Unfortunately, I left without Daphne knowing and I switched off my phone to prevent her calls too.
I just had to handle this alone. She’s a human and she can’t be involved in every pa-rt of my life, yet.
Luckily, there was no sign of Keiran’s mother or she’d kick my arse out.

I knocked on his door and waited but there was no response. I pushed throu-ghand entered heading towards his bathroom. He wasn’t here..
I felt a tussle un-der the bed and I quickly checked getting on my fours.

I saw him un-der the bed covering himself up with a thick blanket.
Hold up…
What’s wrong with him?

“Keiran…” I muttered reaching for the blanket. He growled and backed away. I still couldn’t see his face.

He eventually got out from un-der the bed ti-ghtly covering himself. Since when did Keiran become this disorganized?
I gawked at him as she he struggles to keep the blanket in place.

“Why did you leave school?” I asked ignoring his façade.

He cleared his voice rou-ghly before saying; “Go, later — we talk.”

It sounded hoarse and unlike Keiran’s voice.
Curiosity was eating me alive as I yanked the blanket off his face as ha-rd as I could.
I caught a glimpse of his eyes and he yelped.

Blue eyes.
I saw blue eyes instead of brown. Keiran has brown eyes.

“You are not Keiran!” I gasped.

“Yes, I’m not okay? Can you please leave. He will go meet you later.” He said talking in what seemed like his normal voice.

“But who are you?” I asked furiously.

“I’m Louis. His friend. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to dress up.” He replied pushing me out of the room.

I growled turning back in anger but he shut the door on my face. I couldn’t believe it. Keiran wasn’t here and his so called friend just walked me out of his room like I was nothing. If only he knew that I spent my first night with Keiran in that sacred place.
Hmph.
I walked down the stairs feeling defeated but then, I thought of calling him.
The phone started ringing but I could hear the ringing tone coming from his bedroom.
He left his phone home as well.

Daphne started calling almost immediately and I answered while heading to the kitchen to meet the housekeeper. I really nee-d to talk to her or I’d feel hopeless.

“Hey, Umbrie. Where were you? You just left without me. Anyways, we are at the cafe. Come join us, alright?” She offered.

“Okay, I’ll be there soon.” I replied before hanging up.
I entered the kitchen and saw the housekeeper cleaning the counter.

“Hi, Miss Beverly. Do you know where Keiran is?” I asked worriedly.

“Oh, he’s in his bedroom. Hasn’t come out since morning.” She replied and I arched my brows.

“I didn’t see him there. Rather, his friend was hiding un-der the bed.” I pointed out.

“But I’ve never Known Keiran to bring someone over. He has only brou-ght you home but the rest usually wait outside and he leaves with them. You know we can’t exp-ose the pack.” She said and I read meaning in to it.

I suddenly felt guilty for letting Daphne and Sherry go come over. Though they were clueless, it wasn’t right.

“So, you’re saying Keiran has never brou-ght his friends home. I wonder who that is then… Miss Beverly, have you noticed anything strange about Keiran?” I asked, my voice shaking a bit.

“Well, yes. Since he returned, he has been acting weird. He doesn’t eat like he used to. Normally, Keiran would eat one a day but after he returned, he eats at all times. He’s more easy going and even watch movies with his mom. They haven’t argued so far and sometimes…well, I feel another scent oozing off him. It’s just so complicated.”

Hearing miss Beverly speak, I was starting to get more scared.

“Really? How did he come back anyway?” I asked fixing the puzzle in my head.

“He just knocked on the door holding onto a camping bag. Of course, everyone was surprised and happy to see he’s alive. His parents didn’t spend much time in finding out where he was due to how busy and carefree they were.” She sighed and went back to her cleaning.

Was he br@in washed?
I gasped covering my mouth with both hands.

“Thank you, miss Beverly.” I said and she smiled while nodding.

I got outside the house and was pleased to find Louis about to enter Keiran’s car.
I wondered why he was wearing Keiran’s clothes tho. Was he some sort of stray kid?

I hurried over to the p@$$enger side of the car.

“Can you drop me at a cafe up city?” I asked and he had a poker face. “What? Aren’t you going throu-ghthat side?” I asked politely.

“Yes, I mean No… You can get in. I’ll drop you off.” He said entering the car.
I quickly joined him in the p@$$enger seat and put on my seatbelt.

There was complete silence as he was half throu-ghthe road.

I decided to ask him if he knew where Keiran was.

“I don’t. He didn’t tell me.” He coyly replied and I sank into the chair.
We got to the cafe and I left after thanking him.
He drove off afterwards.

I bought out my phone and se-nt Keiran a text.

CALL ME ONCE YOU GET THIS.

I se-nt it afterwards before going into the cafe.
I joined the studying team and we read together for a few more hours and did I mention how ‘displeased’ almighty Lucas, our group leader was. I just can’t get enough of how funny he is. He doesn’t even try to ha-rd but still, he’s a genius and very smart.

After the study group, I was in no mood to go for the date with Daphne but she was persistent earlier so I summoned up courage and went for the date.

We had all sorts of food and desserts and they were simply good.
When we were done, I went home whilst taking a taxi.

I felt better lying on my bed and soon, I dozed off to sleep.
It was hours before I found myself in a dream with…Alpha Damien. He’s here – in the dream! It was something more like a table and we were having some sort of meeting.

He got up in all his handsomeness and glory!
Then he turned to Keiran pointing a hand at him.

“You have deceived us. You imposter!” He yelled at him.

I je-rked up from the bed realizing it was a dream. I slowly looked beside me and discovered I was alone in the room. My instincts thought Keiran would come and sit by me like some nights in the past.
I was up thinking about what the dream meant.
Does this mean something is wrong with Keiran?
He’s not whom we think he is?

I bought out my cellphone and called him but he wasn’t answering.
I wish I had taken Louis’s phone number. Maybe he’d know where he was right now so I can talk to him and find out what was happening.
Tomorrow is the exercise day. He said he would show up. Let me hope on that.

• Jared’s POV •

I was next in line to meet the great witch of Ice Valley. She was the oldest witch and also the most powerful and efficient. People come from other cities to meet her and find solution from her.
I don’t really know what I’d gain from being here but I nee-ded to be here.

I nee-d to find out what’s happening to me.
And why I always think about her.
Why I don’t want her to be with someone else.
And I desi-re for her to just be there, not attached to anything.
It’s k-lling me.

There was a long line when I arrived but due to the sun going down, some people left to return the next day, so we were just three in the waiting room.

There’s an aura that floods this room. And I guess I feel it because I’m a werewolf and we have strong interaction with witches. My mother was the daughter of a witch too. But unfortunately the witch died before we got to know her. I only know that before she died, she blessed mom to bear a child with healing powers. Luckily, Sky got those powers because there’s no way I’d be humble enough to relieve people of their pain. I enjoy seeing them in pain.

At the waiting room, everyone was wearing a mask to cover up their faces so they won’t be implicated tomorrow.
But I could still tell what they looked like despite the mask. It’s just something I’m good at.

Like, the only woman in the room, she’s Sandra. A woman whom sells groceries and is obsessed with expo-sing werewolves but no one believes her and the witch will never help her get what she wants because she supports us.

To them, she’s an old woman with great wisdom, but to us, she’s on a whole new level of spiritual consultancy. She’s darker than she looks.

No one talks to anyone in the waiting room so I sit with arms crossed and just focused on thinking.

Suddenly, the door opened and a young girl walked in. She didn’t seem scared at all as she took a seat opposite me.

Just by looking at her hair and slight features, I knew her.
She’s…. Daphne. My sister’s stupid new friend from school.
I wonder what she wants at this ‘unfriendly’ hour.
