Episode 61.
After taking my drugs that afternoon I sle-pt off again..
I woke up in the evening and wondered what type of drugs is that,
“Don’t tell me it was since that sleep o, Chinwe said when I saw her entered with Treasure.
“You went out? I asked ru-bbing my head.
“When you sle-pt I went out nau, mhen will you be able to sleep in the night With all the sleep? She replied and I yawned.
“I’m hungry o, I said.
“I went to the restaurant and got food, your girls are doing a good job over there, Chinwe said and I saw a flask with Treasure.
“That’s because she’s treating them well. But is sad they won’t continue for too long, Treasure said and I looked at her.
“Why? I asked.
“Blessed will soon be going to the university, that means she’ll be leaving so she can concentrate on her books, she replied and I remembered her saying her parents will soon st©p her from working.
“She told you that? I asked.
“Yes, she said her dad called yesterday night from Lagos telling her to drop and get prepared for the upcoming jamb exams, Treasure replied and I felt so bad.
If anyone should leave, it shouldn’t be Blessed. In as much I sound greedy and I want her to be stuck working for me, I am more close to her than the other girls, and trying to get that relationsh!pand trust with another was what I didn’t want to do.
I just kept quiet and ate the food that was kept but it was like my taste buds disappeared.
“Is it just me or does anyone notice this food is not delicious? I asked and they looked at me.
“Did you take your drugs again? Chinwe asked.
“Sorry about your health sister, Treasure added and I looked at Chinwe quite disappointed she leaked such an embarras-sing thing to Treasure. I got up and left for the room very angry.
Chinwe opened up the door and met me pacing around,
“So you’ve alre-ady started telling people about my condition huh? I asked.
“What are you talking about? Chinwe asked.
‘Oh spare me that! How will Treasure see me now huh! I shouted on her.
“Oh I guess i know what the problem is, you think I told Treasure you have an infection? I only told her you’re sick and you went to the hospital that’s all, why will you think I will tell her such a thing? What do you take me for! She shouted back at me and left the room.
I heaved and sat down on the be-d covering my head on my palm feeling bad I reacted over nothing.
It will take someone of great tolerance and patience to stay with me in this house, because I myself can’t take much of my attitude now……..
The next day we went to the hospital together to get the result of the test we did yesterday,
“Oh I haven’t heard from them yet, a minute plea-se, the doctor said and left the office.
I was just folding my hand very tensed as I prayed silently it shouldn’t be something that will give me a heart attack.
For me the doctor took too long to come back, but according to Chinwe the doctor just left.
I just covered my head on his desk until I heard the door opened.
I didn’t know when I stood up looking at him as if the result is printed on his face, but he gave his usual smile and asked me to sit down and i slowly did when Chinwe pinched me.
“Uhmmm miss Dorathy you don’t nee-d to be scared, its wise you c@m£ early when you saw the symptoms and the good news is that it Can be arrested now it is in it early stage. You actually have a gonorrhea…… “What! I interrupted him.
“As I said, its in the early stage and can be easily treated. All you nee-d to do is stay off S-x till your treatment is over, get the drugs that will be prescribe-d for you and be sure of your p@rtner next time, you are good to go, the doctor continued and I was just shivering inside.
“So doctor its not serious right? Chinwe asked.
“Yes, he replied.
“What about the pregnancy? Chinwe asked again.
“Well she’s not, sorry for the disappointment, the doctor replied and for the time I smiled when I heard that.
In fact that was the best p@rt of the result and only God knows how grateful I was to him he didn’t let that bastard plant a seed in me.
“Thank you, thank you so much, I heard myself saying to the doctor.
“Don’t thank me but thank him for not re-leasing, the doctor said smiling at me and my smile faded.
This doctor head sef is not correct at all and I when I remembered what happened yesterday in the hospital,I immediately wanted to go home.
“Will she be admitted here for the treatment? Chinwe asked when she got the prescription from him.
“No not at all, she can do that at home, all she have to do is follow up the doses religiously and she will be fine, but she can always come to have a test to be sure the infection is evacuated thor0ûghly, he replied.
“Thank you, we said and left his office.
I let out a de-ep sigh closing my eyes,
“I told you not to worry didn’t i? Hope you’re okay now? Chinwe asked and I happily nodded and swore such a thing will never repeat itself again……..
Its 3 months gone now after that incident, I’m perfectly fine and in fact there’s an on going construction to move our business to a permanent side.
Lucky enough the land was extremely big and we have great plans for it, just I and Chinwe.
A lot of contract kept coming, even though Blessed left, i got her replaced immediately with 2 other girls, but this time around i bec@m£ more serious with my business and didn’t relax as I used to.
After the celebr@tion of the Commissioner daughter we had months ago, Uche promisrd to talk about the information he got when he sneaked into the village.
To him he said my uncle is fighting to be a s£nator and he’s pres£ntly in Abuja with my brothers. At a point I heard he’s backing down from it and so many confusing tales.
Since then no one seem to know or heard anything from them and I got to be occu-pied with the project at hand forgetting about their cut and join stories.
One afternoon Uche walked into my office and seeing his face i knew there’s something he want to tell me.
‘What’s wrong? I asked closing the book I was looking at.
“I’ve heard from your uncle, and i think I know where he is, Uche said and my eyes bulged out.
“Are you serious? I asked.
“This time he’s in Lagos, he replied and i bite myl-ips.
“Whats all this! Why is he always taking my brothers from one sp©t to another! I shouted.
“Calm down okay, I’ll go see if its true, he said.
“You’re going? I asked.
“Of course someone have to go check it out, its 3 years alre-ady since you last saw your brothers, Dorothy are you still going to delay? He asked and i nodded.
“When are you leaving? I asked.
“Tomorrow I guess, if it didn’t work out I’ll call you, he replied.
“I’ll get you money for your transportation then, i said.
“No don’t worry about it, he said tou-ching my cheeks and left.
I was just smiling to myself alone tou-ching the place he t©uçhed me, then i got back to my s-en-ses when i remembered Benson and shook my head from such distraction.
Falling in love or having anything to do with a man Is the last thing i want to do now, even though he hasn’t said anything about his feelings for me, I just pray he shouldn’t do that now.
I got home from the site and saw Chinwe beautifully dressed to go out that evening.
“Where to? I asked but she smiled turning her back for me to check her out and Treasure c@m£ out drinking a glas-s of jui-ce looking at her with a grin.
“Her prince charming will be here to pick her soon, Treasure replied instead.
“Prince charming? Who’s that? I asked.
“Well there’s this guy that has been lur-k-ing around for a while now, Treasure replied.
“He has not been lur-k-ing around okay basket mouth, Chinwe said and i sat down first to look at her.
“Ohhhh!Treasure said rolling her eyes.
“Anyway darling, I’m going on a d@t£. Remember that guy I ran into in the hospital when Treasure was sick? Its him, Chinwe said.
“But i haven’t seen him since then, I said.
“Well he travelled and when he got back, somehow he found me with my business and has always been dropping by, she replied and we heard a horn outside.
Treasure checked it out and gave a sm-irk,
“Time to go madam, Treasure said.
“Its him? Oh Dorothy how is my Dress? Chinwe asked.
“It’s fine o come and go then, Treasure said opening the door for her and i waved her bye and peeped throu-gh the window blind with Treasure looking as the guy c@m£ out from the car as Chinwe approached, and gave a pe-ck, opened the door for her and drove off.
“Awwwnnn so sweet, Treasure said smiling and i suddenly felt lonely, like there was something missing in my life.
I got inside to my room and a tear dropped from my eyes, sometimes when i tell myself I’m happy with all if achieved, something must always be missing, something that will make me sad like i have nothing at all……..
