Episode 60.
The p@rty bec@m£ h0t every minute, we alre-ady excused the big men from where they were enjoying to meet my girls the other side. Uche who drove off after taking us to the venue c@m£ back and still met the p@rty boom..
“Hey, aren’t you all done here? Uche asked Chinwe, but only God knows what I was going throu-gh that minute.
My b©dy was burning, my th!ghs was itching but all I could do was pretend and act cool.
“Hey, you look tired, Uche said tou-ching my shoulders but I only gave a weak smile.
“Hey Dora and Chinwe, someone wants to see you, come, The commissioner daughter said taking us away to where the big men were seated.
We wondered why they want to see us and prayed it should be for good.
“Hey our chefs, we honestly enjoyed your meal, in fact this is the best birthday p@rty ever, one of them said and we smiled.
“Thank you sir, we said.
“Okay and in appreciation we want to help your business, and if any one of us has any p@rty we all have you in mind, one of the woman among them said and stretched a cheque to us.
I turned and looked at Chinwe who looked at me too,
“Come on take it, a man said.
“Go take it, I said to Chinwe.
“Its ours, Chinwe said.
“No you prepared this yourself, this is your gift not mine, I whispered.
“St©p saying nons-en-se, we did this together, Chinwe said stretching my hand and we took the cheque together.
In our very eyes we saw 5 million naira and our legs shook, we looked at them and saw them smiling at us including the commissioner daughter.
“Thanks for ma-king my friends happy, if my friends has praised food over drinks, then you both are awesome, plea-se use that and take good care of your business, the celebr@nt said and we didn’t find any voice in our throat to say a word.
Chinwe was the first to find her voice and thanked them which I joined her in doing that.
The commissioner daughter esc-rted us thanking us and gave us the permission to go.
“We should be the one to thank you plea-se, thank you so much, we said holding her hands but she only smiled and left.
Uche helped us in loading the car he brou-ght, no more the Hilux because to him he returned it back to the owner.
We got to the restaurant at past 8pm not tired but with great gratitude.
I settled the girls giving them 20,000 naira each which I and Chinwe agreed together, they were so surprised and wondered why such an amount of money.
The food we left behind was shared to them and drinks were given to them,
“I want you girls to have your rest, I don’t think the restaurant will be open tomorrow, we nee-d to rest, I said to them.
“No ma and why? We can always come tomorrow don’t worry about it, Blessing said.
“Are you sure about that? I asked.
“Yes, you should have the rest instead we will manage, Blessed c@m£ in.
“Okay fine, I may come I may not, nevertheless you girls should take Care. plea-se go home its late, I said and they thanked us while Blessed took the keys and left.
Uche was just looking at us quietly and I went to him,
“Thank you so much for today, I said to him.
“Why? He asked.
‘For the help, we are grateful, Chinwe replied.
“Common st©p acting funny, I’ll drive you home, Uche said
“Here uncle, this is for you, Treasure said coming out with a food flask.
“Thank you my wife, now let’s go, Uche said taking it from her and we took our things and left with him.
We got home and celebr@ted with the wine that was there before Uche went back.
I quic-kly took the cheque from my bag and that was when Treasure knew about something like that,
“s£nior this is big, 5 million? Treasure shouted but we covered her mouth.
“This should be between us that’s why we didn’t tell Uche about this because we are scared, we are the only one we can trust, Chinwe said.
“I un-derstand, but I think he means well for us unlike……. “Its okay, I’m so tired now, I cut her short because I didn’t want to hear that name, then I left to the room.
Chinwe met with me when I c@m£ out from the shower, but the look on my face told her something was wrong.
“What is it? She asked.
“I nee-d to go to the hospital tomorrow, its very important, I replied.
“Is it about the preg……. “I think its more than that, this heat, itching, rashes around my th!ghs and even swellings, can you explain that? I asked and Chinwe t©uçhed my n£¢k.
“We will go there tomorrow okay, don’t worry about it, she said and I nodded.
“What about the money? Its yours right? You took the most important p@rt of the cooking, I said and Chinwe rolled her eyes.
“There you go again, you also p@rticipated in it right? What’s all this? Chinwe asked.
“Okay fine what plan do we have for it? I asked.
“Build a permanent site for our business, let’s not throw this money away, she replied.
“It will be for both of us Chinwe, our business and we will build it together, I said holding her hand and she nodded.
“Now let me go shower also and have my rest, Chinwe said………
The next day every one was so tired to wake up, I alone was awake suffering the burning and discomfort of just few minutes fun I had with that bastard.
I hated him more and I was tem-pted to dial his number to pour on him curses i heaped inside, even if I had deleted his number from my phone, I still had it in my head but I refused to.
Treasure woke up at few minutes past 7 and got angry with me why i didn’t wake her up to prepare for school..
I didn’t bother to answer her as I just sat watching the television even without the sound on.
She looked at me for a while when I said nothing to her and left for the room..
She c@m£ out with Chinwe who was yawning but i didn’t turn to look at them, my eyes was just fixed on the TV without it blinking.
“What’s wrong with s£nior? Treasure whispered.
“Don’t worry about that, go prepare for school, I heard Chinwe said to Treasure and she got into the kitchen rather.
Chinwe heaved and sat down beside me and i weakly looked at her,
“When Treasure goes to school, we will visit the hospital okay, Chinwe said and a tear dropped from my eyes.
“I’m scared Chinwe, what will the result be? I asked.
“You don’t have to be scared, whatever the result will be we just have to be re-ady for anything, she said and i sniffed.
“Even if I’m carrying a baby? Chinwe why are things always this way with me? Or is God just punishing me? I asked and she shook her head.
“That’s enough Dorothy, if God is really punishing us he won’t bless us this big even as we are secondary school dropouts. Look at the connections and blessings he has s£nt to us even when we don’t deserve it, don’t be ungrateful, Chinwe said and i closed my eyes and leaned my back on the sofa and felt sleepy which Chinwe noticed that.
“Just sleep okay if you want, that will be better so you wont break down so that when you wake up we hit the hospital straight, i gat laundry to do now anyway, Chinwe said keeping my head well and stood up leaving me alone and i eventually sle-pt off……
I got something to eat when i woke up, showered and we headed to the hospital.
We got to meet the handsome young doctor who attended to us, and after explaining everything to him he asked to check it out himself.
I turned and looked at Chinwe not un-derstanding what he meant by that.
“Sorry doctor, you mean? Chinwe asked and he smiled.
“Just doing my job, I have to check and examine it to know what we are dealing with. But with what you just told me, its clearly an infection, he replied.
“What about the period missing p@rt? Chinwe asked.
“Infections sometimes causes abnormality in the menstrual cycle, but if you still doubt me you can still have a pregnancy test to be done also just to confirm, the doctor replied and we nodded.
“Oh and i forgot to ask, are you S-xually active? He asked and i looked at Chinwe again.
“Actually some how, Chinwe replied looking at me and the doctor smiled.
“Are you sure of your p@rtner? Has he ever complained of things like this?He asked but i couldn’t answer. My eyes were just down and i wished that questioning should just st©p, and i heard him laughed.
“But why the question? I asked.
“Are you shy or something? Common we see this everyday and its not new to us. If you are this shy to let me examine you, you mean when you want to give birth you won’t let me tear your legs ap@rt right? He asked.
‘A woman will do that, I replied.
“You won’t even remember that i promise you, in fact I’ve seen shy women more than you begging me to check them with their legs open, so get over it. I nee-d to examine you and then samples will be taken to the laboratory where it will be cultured to identify what we are up against. It may not be just an ordinary infection, it may STI, the doctor said and i wished the ground will just open up and swallow me.
“ST what? Ahhhh Dorathy you have suffered! I said shocked, but the doctor was with all smiles like it was funny sef……….
I got home later with the drugs he asked me to get to subdue the discomfort, while i wait for the result to be out,
“You’ll be fine okay, Chinwe said when i sat down with a frown.
“How did i get to the point that my legs will be spre-ad open like a who-re on a table or whatever that is. what’s all this! I shouted so angry with myself and the doctor, and wished it never happened.
“Should you be angry with the doctor who want to help you or Benson who did this to you? Clearly Benson is a…. Is a….. What should i call him sef? He has been slee-ping around and this is what he got for you from the slut he has been having unprotected S-x with, so plea-se calm down and let’s pray this situation get solved before it gets too serious, Chinwe said but i was crying alre-ady.
“Why did he do this to me? Why Chinwe? I kept asking.
“Ssshhhh that’s enough, time to take your drugs, Chinwe said and left to get me water……….
