Episode 62.
I didn’t know when I sle-pt off, but I woke up when I felt a pres£nce in the room and it was Chinwe.
“You’re back? I asked checking the time to see its past 9pm.
“Yea, sorry i woke you up, she replied taking off her wristwatch and I noticed the look on her face wasn’t good.
“It didn’t go out well or? I asked but she shook her head.
“Maybe it did, but he asked me out, she replied.
“And? I asked.
“I rather told him about my past and asked him to go think about it if he’s sure its me he wants, she replied and I looked closely at her to see tears gathering in her eyes.
“I’m sure he won’t come back, not after all I’ve told him, no sane guy like him will want to end up with a girl like me, she continued and I t©uçhed her.
“What are you saying? If I said what you just said now won’t you shout on my head to keep quiet? If he doesn’t come back it simply means he doesn’t worth you, let it go, I said but she sniffed giving a little smile and went to the mirror,
“He doesn’t worth me? You think a guy like him doesn’t worth me? Who do you think i am Dora? You’re sounding like i am one big clas-sy girl that even have a waec certificate or something. Yet a guy like that doesn’t worth me, then tell me who worth me? plea-se spare me all the inspirational motivational talks, Chinwe blurred out.
“Chinwe……. It’s okay Dora I’m fine, I was expecting this anyway not that I’m pained, trust me I’m fine, she interrupted me when I called out pretending to be strong, but looking at her I know she is broken.
I was tired to stay awake even in the next minute, I just told her good night because she nee-ded to be alone, but she said she will be in the sitting room, I nodded and la-id down back to sleep……….
The next day I noticed Chinwe was not re-ady to leave for her business and I shook my head looking at her.
Sometimes I feel this love of a feeling is a very stupid thing, yesterday I was crying wishing it was me in her place, and Now I’m somehow happy its not me su-cking like her.
I only told her to put herself together and go for her business, then I left for mine.
On the way Uche called me on phone to tell me he’s on the way to Lagos.
I bec@m£ so anxious and prayed his trip should yield a good result tho time around.
I began to picture my brothers in my head and imagine how big they must be now.
“Will they recognize me? Will they ask me so many questions? Or has my uncle spoilt their mind against me that they won’t miss me or wish to come back to me? Was what i kept thinking in my office and wished to see them again anytime from now.
Blessing walked into the office to tell me there will be a birthday p@rty in the hall by 2pm.
“2pm ba? No problem but I wont be around. I’ll go to the site, those their noises and shouting I don’t like it at all, so take over alright, I said to her and she nodded and left.
Exactly 2pm I took my bag and left the restaurant for them, reaching the site Uche called to tell me he has arrived.
That was good news for me,
“Alright we will talk later okay, he said after I welcomed him and asked him to eat something, and he dropped the call.
I was just looking at the guys doing their job when a car drove and parked.
I recognized the car to be the one who picked Chinwe up last night, and truly it was him and Chinwe.
The Chinwe I left with a sad face was just blooming with smiles as I got up from where I sat and went to them,
“Hey, hi, I stretched my hand for a handshake with him.
“Hello, So we meet again? He asked.
“Yea and I can see you finally had her, I replied.
“Yes, I always go for what I want, he replied and I looked at Chinwe who was still smiling holding him the other hand.
“I said yes, she said.
“Really? Congratulations, I said to them.
“Thank you, I didn’t want to bring him here but he insisted to, as an engineer he said he wants to do the supervision, Chinwe said.
“Engineer? Okay no problem, I said.
“Thank you, and you girls are doing well, he said.
“Thank you, I said and he nodded and excused us to take a better look.
‘Hey, so happy now? I asked Chinwe.
“Yes, I thought he won’t come back but he did. He went to where my business stand but didn’t see me, then he c@m£ to the house and met me. I’m so happy, Chinwe said and i only smiled nodding.
“So where’s the ring? I asked.
“We are not engaged nau, you sef, Chinwe said hitting me.
“So is it bad to start prophesying for ring? Na you sabi sha, I said.
“But i hope you’re okay he insisted to come? I wanted calling you on phone to let you know but I thought he may feel bad or something, Chinwe said as we slowly walked to meet with them.
“Its okay, since you got an engineer b©yfri£ndits for our favour sha, I’m happy for you, i said but she smiled and held my hand as we approached them.
“The materials are good, I think you girls has a little influence on them with the way I’m seeing the work, He said.
“Not us o, what do we know? There’s a friend of ours who do come, though he travelled today, I replied and Chinwe looked at me.
“Uche has traveled? She asked.
“Yes, I wanted telling you yesterday but you went on a d@t£, I replied and she rolled her eyes.
“But he called me that he has arrived, don’t worry we will talk when we get home, I continued.
“That’s good and Congrats girls, you both have really proved to me that there are ladies who are struggling in a legit way to make it, and I’m proud of you, he said.
“Thank you, I don’t even know your name, I said.
“Oh pardon me, he said.
“No Chinwe should apologize, she is to introduce you right? I asked.
“Okay okay my bad, Dorothy meet my boo James, Baby meet my Sister Dorothy. Settled now? Chinwe asked.
“The way you are just calling the Dorathy sef with no respect is something else, nons-en-se girl, I said and Chinwe laughed.
“I for call you Dora ni? Abi darling? Chinwe asked.
“Abeg shift one side. Eh eh Mr James, my sister here is one mad and troublesome girl, I pray for the grace upon your life to be able to tolerate her madness. But she’s cool, very cool, so don’t hurt her else I’ll come for you. I swear i will and i wont mind going extra miles if you make a tear drop from her eyes, so plea-se don’t even dare if you’re not serious about her. If you are here for fun or maybe a hit and run, plea-se think twice because i won’t take it funny with you, I said and Chinwe folded her hand looking at me as i kept a serious face while talking.
“Oh you’re ma-king me scared, but I’ll try my best because i have good intentions for her, James said and i nodded still keeping a stern look.
But seeing chinwe face i couldn’t keep up with the looks, we just bur-st out laughing together.
“Chinwe you love falling my hands a lot, what was that nau? Silly girl, I said still laughing.
“No nah, me sef come confuse if na the Dorothy I know dey talk so, Chinwe said and James offered to take us out………..
We got home in the evening and met Madam Treasure looking at us in a way that if it is possible, she felt like giving us serious stro-kes on our bu-m bu-m.
“Ahhhh madam why this face na? Have we committed? Chinwe asked.
“You don’t know? I couldn’t find any of you anywhere, she replied.
‘So is that you are standing like military personnel? Chinwe asked.
“So I wouldn’t have stand? What did you bring for me? Treasure asked peeping her head into the bag we held.
“Bia re-move this your small head here, did you see your name here? I asked shifting her aside and she looked at Chinwe.
“Sister my own na? She asked.
“Your own what? Where did you s£nd us to? I asked.
“No mind o, she’s holding your bag, Chinwe said.
“Who?Don’t come near me o, I said and Uche call c@m£ on phone and it was more important to me.
“Take joor before you chew me, i said giving her the bag for her and ran in to pick the call.
‘Hi good evening, I picked up.
“Dora I’m outside a building now with my friend, and we just saw your uncle drove in with your brothers. Seems to me your brothers are living well and i don’t know if they may come back to you, he said.
“What are you saying? I’m their sister and he is evil, why won’t they come back to me! I shouted.
“I don’t know, I think you have to come to Lagos and see for yourselves, he said.
“Fine then i will, I think its time to face the idiot once and for all. I won’t hide anymore after he has taken a lot from me, he has to re-lease my brothers to me, In fact just s£nd me the address I’ll be there! I shouted.
“Dorothy calm down will you, I’m afraid it won’t be easy as you think. I’ll s£nd you the address okay, he said and dropped the call and i turned to see Treasure and Chinwe behind me.
Perhaps They must heard my shout and c@m£ to see what’s going on,
“What happened? Chinwe asked.
“Uche has seen my brothers, but to him he thinks it will be difficult to have them back, i replied.
“I told you didn’t I? Your uncle won’t re-lease them as you think, especially when he is taking them as the sons he never had, Chinwe said.
“Nons-en-se! After all he has done to us he thinks he will take them away? Never, i will fight him even If someone has to die! I shouted.
“Dorothy! Chinwe shouted and i left the room..
