MERCY’S POV
The whole of that day I didn’t try to get Joshua again, it would be so inhuman of me to make him sleep with me with that charm.
I decided to wait for some days to do that.
Three days later, I decided to start my mission again since Sonia and JJ would not allow me to drink water and keep the cu-p with their affection up and down.
It was a perfect opportunity for me to carry out my mission since Sonia said she was going to the market to get some stuffs.
she begged me to go with her but I refuse, I told her I wasn’t feeling well….
she asked if she could get me drugs whIle coming back from the market… but I told her not to border.
I waited patiently for her to leave the house, in fact I was the one who escorted her to the car that drove her to the market.
Feeling very satisfied that the D-Day has come for me to finally get Joshua I ran to my room, carried the powder baba gave me and applied some in my hands… I quickly went downstairs, to make sure he was alone before robbing the powder on my face.
immediately I robbed the powder I went to stand in front of him…. he immediately got up looking at me like he has seen an angel or so I thought
I moved to him seductively and try to kis-s him, he brou-ght his mouth closer to mine… just when it was just a mile away he grabbed my ne-ck and said.
JOSHUA
I don’t know what you are skimming, but I want you to know It would not work….. I’m letting you stay in this house because of sonia…. but if you ever cross your line again, I will send you out of my house without thinking twice.
He pushed me away and I fell on the couch coughing really hard.
What went wrong? why did the charm not work on him? baba said I should rob the powder on my face…..so why is it not working?
I quickly ran to my room, carried my bag and left the house…. it would be awkward if Sonia comes back and he tells her I tried to se-duce him.
I was very angry, why would mum make me embarra-ss myself like this, if she knew she wasn’t sure of this baba why did she take me there?
I took a taxi home, mum was outside drying some clothes on the line when I barged into the compound.
MUM
what happened? why is your face like that?
MERCY
mum, what did I ever do to you? what?
(I screamed at her)
MUM
will you shut your mouth, how dare you raise your voice at me….are you m*d?
(She shouted)
I knew mum was already angry, and yelling too would not solve anything so I decided to apologize
MERCY
I’m sorry Mom, please forgive me.
MUM
What happened?
(she asked straight away)
MERCY
mum the charm didn’t work, i did as baba asked….but he did like he wanted to kis-s me, the next thing he grabbed my ne-ck and almost choked me.
MOM
what? what could have gone wrong?baba is not fake if that is why you came yelling.
MERCY
then why didn’t it work? mum do you know how embarra-ssed I was? what If he had choked me and killed me?
MUM
God forbid…. we are going to go see baba right now… wait let me get my hand nag.
She went inside and few minutes later she came out with her hand bag and a changed of clothes.
I went into my room to carry my car keys since I didn’t go with my car….
TWO HOURS LATER
We got to Baba’s house and mum and I got downstairs from the car… we went inside, mum went straight to the status to bow and kis-s it but I didn’t….I was to angry and to disappointed to do any of that.
Mum saw the anger on my face and pulled my down to worship the status… I didn’t still feel like doing it.
Baba’s laughter filled the air then he appeared.
BABA
a child does not know the potence of a native charm she calls it an ordinary leaf….
MERCY
baba the charm you gave me did not….
BABA
it didn’t work right? you shouldn’t have left the house….
MERCY
what do you mean? someone that almost choked me to death, you wanted me to stay there?
BABA
the charm didn’t work on him because he has a mark on his body.
MERCY
a mark? what mark is that? and if you knew that, why did you send me there?
BABA
that mark only appeared after he started to fall in love with that Sonia of a girl.
MERCY

his a twin and they are special twins…. that is why you can’t harm them no matter how you try…. the younger brother even after he was abducted by some ritualist, they couldn’t use him to do anything… they had to throw him away.
MERCY
does it mean that JJ’s twin is alive?
BABA
yes, alive and kicking…. his perfectly fine.
MERCY
that is not my concern, my concern is Joshua… why didn’t the charm work on him…. I want that man, please baba do everything to let me have him.
BABA
there’s nothing I can do for you again, after you left I did some digging about that guy…and I found out his untouchable…. I would advise you stay away from him… else
MERCY
else what? mum I told you this man is fake…. first he said I should go and use this on him, secondly he said I shouldn’t have left the house the way I did…. and now his telling me bullshit about Joshua having a mark and a twins…..mum I’m out of here…..meet me outside.
Mum tried to call me back but I didn’t wait, I went outside to wait in my car.
SONIA POV
I came back from the market, dropped the things I bought in the kitchen and washed my hands…. I went upstairs to go check up on Joshua in his room….. he was lying on the bed and was sweating really ha-rd un-der AC
SONIA
Are you alright? why are u sweating un-der the AC ? are okay?
he didn’t say anything,.he just laid there staring at me….I tried for about twenty minutes trying to make him talk to me but he kept silent…. I felt he wasn’t in the mood to talk to me, so I got up from his bed and was about to walk away but he grabbed my hand, pulled me for-cefully to his body and out li-ps accidentally met…. I tried to stand up from his body and break from the kis-s but he held me ti-ghtly….. slowly I relaxed my body and started to kis-s him back… what I’m I doing? I’m I about to have se-x with JJ or it’s just going to end on this kis-sing”?

MERCY’S POV
On our way going home, home won’t stop yelling at me and scolding me for being rude to baba…. the yelling became so intense that I angrily parked my car and asked her to come down.
she was shocked, she thought I was joking, but I came down from my side and walked to the other side of the door, opened it and asked her to come down.
MUM
you ain’t being serious are you?
MERCY
I’m sure you have some cash in your bag, you can bring a taxi home…but I can’t drive in the same car with you mum.
(I said looking away)
MUM
because I’m telling you the truth as your mother?
MERCY
What truth mum? that you can’t help your only child get what she wants? I rather die than lose Joshua to Sonia mum….. have you met Joshua before? his everything a woman needs and want…. his my dream man….i swear I wouldn’t mind to sacrifice even my own father to get this man.
The shock on my mum’s face grew even wider, she came down from the car and landed my face with a hot slap.
MUM
will you shut that trap you called a mouth?
MERCY
you can slap me for you I care, but you can’t stop me from getting that man mum, you cant… and I promise you, if I should walk this path on my own and I’m asked to make a huge sacrifice so I can have Joshua all to myself….i wouldn’t hesitate to use you… yes, you heard me right….. remember you once told me that if I wasn’t a girl child you would have sacrifice me after giving birth to me…. you needed a female child so she could give you all the money you need, all the luxury dad couldn’t give you….. now I’m telling you the same thing…. if I can’t have Joshua willingly, I’m going to have him by for-ce…..by all means possible.
I said and carried her bag from my car, I throw it at her and locked my door….went to the driver side and drove away.
TWO HOURS LATER
I got home and parked some of my clothes, I think it’s high time I left the house… after all oga biggie already gave me a key to one of his duplex but I refuse to go because I didn’t want him to use that as an exsuse to visit me always.
I’m just going to go there quietly and not let him know I’m already staying at the house…. I met dad on my way going out with my bags, he tried to find out where I was going and when I would be returning but I refuse to speak to him.
I put my bags in my car and drove away to oga Biggie’s apartment….after settling down in the house I tried to think of where I could get help, should I just kill Sonia and go get Joshua or I should make her disappear from this city?
I kept thinking of possible ways I could go about with my plans but nothing was working…. mum call came in, and I ignored it, she called like three times again yet I didn’t answer
“I won’t say I’m not surprised, you really surprised me with your attitude today mercy…. but a shake will never give birth to a rat….you are indeed my daughter” call this number, she’s a spiritualist, a very powerful one at that…. she will help you with everything you need”
I read the text message mum sent to me, I immediately coped the number and called the woman.
I called her more than four times before she finally answered, she gave me her location and asked me to come and see her.
There was no time to waste, for all we know Joshua and Sonia’s love might be increasing per second.
I picked my hang bag and immediately went to the woman’s place…… her place wasn’t as creepy as the first baba my mum took me to.

I said but she immediately started to laugh, she laughed and laughed until she saw the confusion on my face.

our gods does not drink cow blood, or any other animal whatsoever…..they drink human blood….. before this can work, we need the blood of twins….. I’m sure okiki told you about the mark the twins bear… we need a similar identify to help us break that mark…..so go bring me the blood of two maor twins.
MERCY
blood of twins? but where can I get twins? no one would agree to follow me here…. please is there nothing you can do for me?

MERCY
this is more difficult than I thought, where do I go in search of a day old twins?

I agreed to help you because I saw the strong zeal you came here with, but if you are just going to seat there and doubt me… then you might as well leave.

I’m sorry wise one, I’m ready to do anything just to win the heart of this man…..give me the ring I will go and search for twins.
She did some incantations before she picked a black ring and gave it to me….. I brou-ght out my left hand and collected the ring from her.
I put it on my left middle finger like she instructed and waited for her last instructions.

I thanked her, carried my hand bag and left….. immediately I left her temple I started my search in finding a twin I would use for the sacrifice.

I drove until I stopped in front of a shabby looking building, gra-sses was all over the house…. I wondered if it is humans that lives there or animals
I came down from my car and the first sound that graced my ears were cry of babies crying
God bless this ring, this ring is very powerful indeed…. I started to walk close to the building, I saw a lady who I’m sure was just 15 to 16 years old… she sat down outside, from the look of things she wasn’t happy at all.
MERCY
hey young girl, how are you?
(I greeted but she didn’t answer)
I continue to talk to her until she finally spoke
GIRL

sometimes God us unfair to us, but sometimes his not….. look at me, I have been married for seven years yet no child…but look at a child like you who still need to be taken care of, he had blessed with two children…..how old is the childRen please?
GIRL
they are just a day old
MERCY
And there gender?
GIRL
they are boys…..what I’m I going to do with this boys? what?
(she said crying)
MERCY
you can sell them to me if you want, I can even give you my house address so you can come visit them at will.
she was quiet for a while, I guess still trying to process what I said….after de-eper thinking she said.
GIRL
I do not have the mind to give my kids away, God had decision to punish me with them, I believe this punishment is for a reason…. I can not sell my children… but you can take us all to your house, I will work as a maid for you and your husband while you help me to raise my kids……maybe God will decide to bless you with your own children.
This girl is crazy, she doesn’t want to sell the children but she want me to take her in?
Time was going and I needed to bring those children today,so I accepted….I accepted to do whatever she want… she went inside and brou-ght the kids, I helped her to carry one and we walked to my car….. she kept the kids at the back seat and joined me in front.
I drove out of that area to a more lonely and quiet place, I parked my car and asked her to come down she got bre-ast feed the children since one of the boys was crying loudly.
She came down from the car, as she walked to the back seat and tried to bring out one of the boys, I picked a very big stone and smashed her head into piece.
I she fell to the ground, I made sure she was died before I ran into my car and drove away.
NARRATOR’S POV
Mercy was very happy that the charm the spiritualist gave her was so powerful that it helped her to get the twins so easily, it was her first time sowing her hands in blood but she wasn’t bordered, she knew she would kill more to keep her relationship with Joshua.
on her way going to the spiritualist house, her car started to develop fault that she couldn’t manage it… she decided to drop at a repairer shop to have it fixed.
As she waited for her car to be fixed, the two boys won’t stop crying….. people started to ask her to come down from her car and go feed the kids while she wait for her car to be repaired.
The environment wasn’t okay for her but because she feared people might start suspecting that the kids are not hers she came down from the front seat to go to the backseat to carry the babies.
She was still trying to bring out a one of the babies from the back seat when a little girl who went to the other street to ground pepper splashed water on her body… …She immediately dropped the baby on the seat and turn to look at the person that just poured her water.
MERCY
(she knocked her head)
are you blind? how dare you pour this dirty water on me?
CAR REPAIRER
Madam abeg no vex, na small pikin, she no look before she pour the water.
Mercy was so furious, but yet mind didn’t go there that the water the little girl had poured her night have had locus bean in it….. she decided to smell her clothes to see if the water wasn’t smelling….. but the smell was funny, she wasn’t sure of what it was so she asked.
MERCY
what water is this?
SMALL GIRL
(crying)
that water wey I use wash ground stone
MERCY
what? what did you ground?
(she yelled)
SMALL GIRL
na dawa dawa and onions and peppers
MERCY
dawa dawa asin locus beans?
SMALL GIRL

She didn’t complete her statement before mercy landed her with a dirty slap…. she immediately left her car and started to run to the spiritualist house since it wasn’t far from where she is.
People try to chase after her, but the speed she carried no one could catch up with her so they just let her go
