MERCY’S POV CONTINUES
bobo left me outside to go and call his boss, I knew it would be a foolish thing to do if I apply the powder without knowing who would come out next from that gate.
Few minutes later JJ came out looking very furious
MERCY
good morning Joshua
JOSHUA
do I know you? when did I ever propose to you?
MERCY
I’m Sonia’s friend, have you forgotten me? proposed? who said that?
I turn to look at Bobo, he had this questionable look that says “but that what was you called yourself”
MERCY
It’s been a while I saw my friend, I miss her so I came to pay her a visit before I travel out of the country.
JOSHUA
you can come inside, but next time I won’t take it slightly if you joke with me like this again.
He said and left back into the house, I followed him too and asked Bobo to bring in my bag…. I turned only to see that the fo**ish guy was already locking the gate and had left my bag outside
I had to run back to carry my bag from outside
MERCY
it won’t kill you to bring the bag inside
BOBO
no wonder jack had to send you away the last time you were here….you are not worth anything.
He said and walked back to his duty post, his word pained me and I promise to make JJ sack him too… I carried my bag and went inside.
JJ was standing in the living room waiting for me to come inside.
JOSHUA
your friend is in her room, we are about to go out…. you can go to her room or wait for her here.
He said and started to walk upstairs, I opened my hand bag to bring out the powder to rob on my face but then I heard Sonia’s voice coming downstairs so I quickly hide the powder.
SONIA
I checked you in your room, but you weren’t there…. what did you come downstairs to do….
She suddenly sighted me, she pushed JJ out of the way slightly and ran downstairs to hug me…. her happiness was real and true I could feel it…. but I was angry, I was jealous… how did she do it? how did she do it to make a guy who was once a ga-y this soft? see the look in JJ’s eyes….. dude might not know it, but that look is from a man who has fallen in love.
SONIA
Jesus Christ, babe you didn’t tell me you were coming…. I really missed you
(She said hugging me)
MERCY
I doubt that, I left this house and you never for once came to check up on me, you didn’t care if I was fine or not.
SONIA
that is not what happened mercy, I know I should have come to check up on you… but I was so busy…and you know then I didn’t have a cellphone to call you… please forgive me
MERCY
it’s in the past now, if I was mad at you I wouldn’t be here…. babe you look good ooh
SONIA
(She smiled happily)
stop whining me joor….. is you that I should be saying that to… look at how fresh you have become.. tell me how is studies self
MERCY
how would you know when you didn’t even check up on me…..I’m already done with my studies.
SONIA
wow, that’s good news…. congratulations babe
MERCY

Joshua came downstairs again to meet with us
JOSHUA
bibi, ain’t we going again? come help me with what I’m going to wear.
(he said standing in-between us)
SONIA
just go and shower, I will soon join you…. please!!!!
She said pushing him to go upstairs, I frowned at their silly drama….as she was about turning to face me, I quickly started smiling.
MERCY
bibi? is that baby or what? are you guys dating now? I thought…..
SONIA
we ain’t dating okay? it’s a long story….im going to tell you all about it when I come back, but for now I need to go help him with what his going to wear.
before I could even say any other thing she had already ran upstairs, leaving just me in the living room.
JOSHUA’S POV
I was in my room eating the breakfast Sonia prepared for me, when Bobo came to tell me that a lady was outside claiming to be my fiancee, the sound of it almost made me choke on my food…. is that supposed to be a joke or what? I got down from my bed and asked Bobo to lead the way…. I was surprised when I got outside to see it was Sonia’s friend…. I recognized her the moment I saw her…. she has this kind of choppy eyes that defines her.
Even after everything she did to sonai the last time she was here, sonia was still very excited to see jer… she hug-ged her like she wouldn’t let her go
I decided to make it clear to mercy that Sonia belong to me and me alone so I came to ask her to join me inside.
I didn’t wait long before she came inside to join me
SONIA
what’s with the Bibi today? look now, mercy thinks I’m dating my boss
JOSHUA
what is wrong if you date me? beside I told you I want to date you.
SONIA
stop saying that please…. I told you I needed time…..why won’t you give me the time I need?
JOSHUA
you win….. can I go and shower now?
(I said going to the bathroom)
I came out few minutes later and she had already set my clothes for me to wear.
SONIA
are you angry?
JOSHUA
I’m not angry, why should I be?
( I said carrying a straight)
SONIA
I’m sorry okay, I didn’t mean to sound that way…. please forgive me.
(she apologized)
but I didn’t say anything, I picked my trouser and was about to put my left leg when she ran closer to me and planted a soft and quick peck on my cheeks…. and once again it took my breathe away….
I immediately removed my leg from the trouser and grabbed her by the wai-st….. she stare at me lustfully, trust me I know what I saw…. I have seen that look before, but in the eyes of Anderson.
I brou-ght my mouth closer to her, I expected her to push me away but she didn’t, instead she closed her eyes and waited for my li-ps to touch hers…. just as it was about to, boom the door push opened and mercy walked in.
and we quickly had to disengage from each other
MERCY
oops, sorry I didn’t know you guys were busy … I only came to ask Sonia if I could eat something from her kitchen
SONIA
don’t be silly, of course you can eat anything
MERCY
oh okay…. thanks….you guys should go back to what you were doing.
She said and left my room….I just don’t know why, but I don’t feel comfortable with this lady…. it wasn’t the first time I’m having this feeling…. mercy isn’t a clean person…. I can seriously feel it.
SONIA
you should get dress, I will be waiting for you outside.
Before I could say jack she walked out of my room…. I jumped on my bed hitting my legs on it angrily
“who ask that witch to come to my house”? and why did she have to walk in at that moment? she just ruined a perfect moment for us”

JOSHUA’S POV CONTINUES
we got to the hospital where belle works, after all the test, my results came out….. according to the result I had serious tyhoid and Malaria….. she requested they place me on an admission, but I was totally against it…… I couldn’t stay in the hospital, that would put Sonia in more distress, she would have to be sleeping in the hospital because of me and I didn’t want that.
JOSHUA
you know I’m never going to agree to that right?
(I said staring at Sonia’s eyes)
SONIA
but it’s for your own good JJ, what if you pa-ss out because of this sickness? what do you think I will do?
JOSHUA
I un-derstand what you are trying to say Bibi, but I still can’t stay here…. fine she can come to the house and treat me…. I will pay the hospital double… but I won’t stay here.
SONIA
you should have said that ealier, where you are receiving the treatment doesn’t matter, what matters is that you are being treated.
BELLA
It’s okay if he doesn’t want to stay in the hospital…. we can have him treated at the comfort of his home.
JOSHUA
you see…. so you have nothing to worry about
SONIA
when are you sending someone over?
BELLA
oh right away, a nurse will go with you guys….. she will put you on drip and some ha-rd drugs, please Sonia, make sure he eats alot of food before the nurse put him on that drugs….. it will make him sleep throu-ghthe whole day…. tomorrow morning I will drop by before going to work.
I wasn’t happy when she said the drugs would make me sleep throu-ghthe whole day… closing my eyes for hours without seeing Sonia is tiring enough….. not seeing her for a whole day because of some drugs is enough torture.
Sonia thanked Bella for her time and we left her office…. we waited in my car for about twenty to twenty five minutes before the nurse that was supposed to go with us joined us.
I started my car and we drove home….. immediately we got home, Sonia went straight into the kitchen to prepare food for me… it was already lunch time and the doctor warned a eat before any thing is given to me.
I went into my room to lay on my bed waiting for when lunch would be ready and served.
The nurse was in my room too, she was preparing all the stuffs she was going to inject me with.
A knock came at my door and I asked whoever it was to come inside….. I immediately frowned when a saw the face of the person.
MERCY’S POV
I was lucky, else maybe by now I would have been roaming the street of abuja mad.
I didn’t know JJ and Sonia had come back with a visitor…. since Sonia was in the kitchen I just felt it was the perfect time for me to carry out my mission… I put some of the powder in my hand and went to JJ’s door…. my was to rob it immediately he comes out to open the door…..but the stubborn man didn’t come outside, instead he asked me to enter…. well, it wouldn’t be a bad idea you know…. it would make my plans even fas-ter.
I was surprised when I entered the room and met a young lady dressed in a nurse outfit.
I quickly ran to JJ’s bathroom to wash my hands, took in a de-eper breathe before coming outside.
I could see the shock mixed with disgust in JJ’s eyes…. but why does he hate me so much ? is not like I have ever done anything wrong to him…. why does his eyes say it all?
MERCY
I didn’t know you had a guest
JOSHUA
she’s a nurse who is here to treat me
MERCY
you ain’t well? now I get it….this morning when I saw you, you looked different….I thought maybe because it’s been a long time I saw you…. but now I know the reason.
JOSHUA
did I lose so much weight?
MERCY
are you kidding me? haven’t you looked at yourself in the mirror? all the bones in your body are almost showing?
JOSHUA
are you serious?
he asked trying to look at himself at the mirror…. he how worried he looked about losing weight, I started to laugh.
MERCY
don’t mind me, I’m just kidding…. you looked pale though….but Sonia did a better job watching after your health.
JOSHUA
jezz, you scared me….i thought I had lost so much weight.
MERCY
no, you didn’t…. so what did the doctors said is wrong with you?
JOSHUA
it’s nothing serious, just malaria.
MERCY
Don’t worry, I believe after this treatment you will be okay and fine.
JOSHUA
thank you.
I was about to say something else when Sonia walked in with a tray of food, hot semovita and egusi soup…. the aroma filled the whole room that I immediately started feeling hungry.
SONIA
I prepare food, it’s already served…. nurse Abigail please do help yourself out…. if it’s not enough you can let me know.
She said like the madam of the house, the way she talks like JJ has married her or she’s now the owner of the house is so annoying.
The nurse thanked her and walked out, I smiled and followed her like everything was okay… but de-eper down I was very pained and angry.
SONIA’S POV
I kept the food on JJ’s bed and asked him to seat up
JOSHUA
I love the aroma of your soup baby.
SONIA
now is no longer Bibi but baby? I wonder what you will call me next.
JOSHUA
I know you are dying to call me that too, please you are free to call me whatever you want to.
SONIA
you wish….stand up and eat your food.
JOSHUA
I’m not happy Sonia
SONIA
Why are you not happy?
JOSHUA
I’m shutting my eyes all throu-ghtoday, I’m not going to see you…. I feel very sad about it
SONIA
(I smiled)
but you will see me in your dreams, so you shouldn’t be sad…. I promise to join you in your dream.
JOSHUA
you promise?
SONIA
I cross my heart…. now eat your food
JOSHUA
on one condition
SONIA
you are giving me conditions before you eat your food?
JOSHUA
yeah, I want to kis-s you.
SONIA
is that all? if that’s what you want…. here, kis-s me
I said giving him my left cheeks, he immediately planted a soft kis-s on my cheeks before he washed his hands and started to eat….. he ate so much that I was very proud of him, indeed the soup was really tasty.
after he finished eating, I allowed him to rest for some time, at least spend some time with me since that was his only worry….. before going downstairs to call the nurse to start the treatment.
nurse Abigail is a neat lady, she washed all the dishes she and mercy used to in eating…. she even helped me to tidy up the kitchen I left in a mess.
