I behaved as if I didn’t see anyone coming, and immediately, I switched it from the pictures we were looking to c@m£ra. I k!$$£d his cheek, taking a picture. He was still blu-shing before he knew what was going on. BB’s eyes found mine and I smiled at her.

“We are just friends,” I mouthed, and I was sure she felt like vomiting on me. I just laughed a little, waiting to see Victor’s reaction. He doesn’t know I just set a bait for him. Whatever way he reacts would answer my question. I wanna know if he still cares. Kunmi mentioned about the two being close friends. I really do not care but Betty piss me off whenever I see her. I wonder how Victor was close with someone like that. Like I expected, the two looked at each other in a way that was strange and confusing before she stormed away.

Victor st©pped walking and I turned to him. “Hey what happened?”

I’ve never seen him that serious. His face was no longer smiling.

“Suzy what was that for?”

Yes, his reaction says it all.

He cares!

Victor cares for her!

I was quiet for some seconds. I didn’t know what to say. I thought they were just friends. How come he was affected by what I did.

“Victor I was only taking a picture of us. Have I done anything wrong?”

“No, you haven’t.” This time, Victor’s voice was cool and slow. He was trying not to show his reaction or trying not to make me angry. I actually couldn’t re-ad him at that very moment.

“We will talk later.” He dismissed me and turned to leave.
I wish I know what they had together. They weren’t just friends, and Kunmi told me they never d@t£d. I walked away very fast from him. I was freaking angry at him. I don’t know, but I felt he dismissed me because of her. Almost reaching the game clas-s, I realized I was still having Victor’s phone. I turned back to return it to him. I prayed to meet him on the way. Close to reaching the hall, I heard a girl’s cry as she spoke with anger.

“I’m surprised Victor! What is it about her that actually turned you against me?” It was the beautiful BB.
“Betty calm down.” Victor’s voice was quiet. He never spoke to me that way. So cool. “You know we’ve talked about this. We agreed we can make friends. Suzy and I are just friends. Nothing more. Not now or ever!”
I felt like someone just struck my heart at what I heard. I almost felt like crying. I mean nothing to him. Not now or never! God! It was too much, because he meant so much to me.

“So did you just forget about me?” I heard her cry again.
“No, you know I can’t Betty.”
“Okay,” I didn’t hear her cry again. “You know I’m always there for you Victor. It’s true I know you like her, but be careful. She’s this mean girl. She always like to show off, and I noticed she’s proud. Too proud for my liking.” She kept spoiling me in front of him.
That girl is a great pretender! Liar! She started it the day she hit me. Is not like there was something between Victor and I. Seriously, I dislike her from the bo-ttomof my heart. She just made things worse.

I heard someone cough behind me. Turning back, stood Yomi and Festus. I couldn’t just stared. They must have heard everything too, so I smiled greeting them.
“Hi,” I greeted with a smile and the two just stared at each other. But didn’t say a word. Not to make things more awkward, I spoke up.
“Can you plea-se give this phone to Victor. Wanted to, but he’s busy.”
Yomi collected it, and mumbled, “I will.”
I walked away from them. Angry, and feeling sad. I wondered what to expect from our friendsh!p, knowing I meant nothing to him. I wish someone would just tell me the truth, but I realized it was none of my business.

We are just friends right!
••••

I got to where Victoria, Debbie, Temi, and Kunmi were, taking my seat with them.

“Thank God!” It was Debbie who spoke. “How come you just disappeared like that. Anyways, let’s start guys.”
Temi brou-ght out a bottle, and dropped it on the table. “I will start by introducing this game to you guys. It is TRUTH or DARE. You pick one, and you’re obligated to do whatever you’re told to do, and say the exact truth.”

“Okay.” They said.

They didn’t know p@rt of me was boiling. And very angry. But I just gave them my deceiving smile. Smiling in return at anything they say.
“Suzy did you get the game?” Debbie asked.
With a beautiful smile on myl-ips, I nodded, and smiled again.
“Suzy,” Victoria called
Another smile at her direction.
I guess they got it and just started with the game.

The bottle was rolled by Temi, and st©pped at Victoria’s direction.

“Hmm..” She cleared her throat, followed by a cough, then she mentioned the name I wasn’t expecting.

“Suzy,” she was facing me. “I know, but I just want to confirm. Do you like my brother?”
Sorry Victoria. This question c@m£ in a very bad
time.
“No I don’t, I’m only just teasing him back like he always do. I just couldn’t let him always make fun of me.”
The girls stared at each other, and knew something was wrong. Actually, I gave them the answer that based on my mood.
“Okay Suzy.” Victoria kept quiet, leaving me to choose next. I do not know who to face. But, somehow my spirit directed me to Debbie.
“Debbie!” I called. Among the girls, Debbie was someone I’m not too close with.

“Truth or Dare?” I asked.

“Truth.” She replied, nervous and at the same time anxious to know what my question would be.

“Do you have a crush? And tell me, would you do anything to make him notice you.”

She sighed. “Yes, I do have a crush, but he’s only crazy for someone. And that someone gat to be my friend. So I wouldn’t do anything to make him notice me, because he’s like a brother to me.”
I was dumbfounded. I didn’t know what to say. Wish to know who that crush that made Debbie all smiling when talking. But which of her friends. I think if you like someone, you just have to give your best for him or her to feel same way about you. If not that way, then try being friends.

“Don’t ask me for names plea-se, because I’m not going to tell you guys the truth.” Debbie quic-kly added.
Victoria coughed, as if she knew everything Debbie said. “Then you shouldn’t have mentioned about it. It’s your turn” I noticed they immediately dismissed me. I wasn’t even throu-gh with my questions.
Debbie turned to Temi.
“Truth or Dare?” She asked.
“Dare!” She surprised everyone. I guess she doesn’t want to share her secret with anyone.

“Okay,” Debbie was alre-ady smiling and laughing. She’s always like that when she has a wicked plan.
“Right now,” she paused. And later spoke up again. “I want you to go to the house master and request to see Yomi and-”

“What!” Temi screamed like someone who was given a bad news before Debbie could land, and we all laughed. No one knew that was what Debbie would ask. She intentionally said it, because she knew those two hate each other like mad.

“plea-se, I’m not done talking. Just listen to what you will do. Na you choose Dare now.” She mocked her.
Victoria could not hold her laughter. “You want Temi to commit suicide, and Yomi to end up dying, trying to find what kill his enemy. plea-se I don’t want to lose any of my cousins yet.” She said and I found myself alre-ady out of my seat, laughing. All my anger was washed away, gone, and I knew the angry spirit flew away the moment I laughed. This was one of the reasons why I love these girls.
“Just listen,” Debbie went on. “Go and pack Yomi’s dirty bo-xers and wash it for him.”
Temi finally jumped out of the chair, as if Mr. Bada’s cain landed on her bu-ttock.
“Debbie, you know you’re not talking to me right!” There was a hint of seriousness in her voice. “May be you should bring your undies in form of exchange for me to wash, but for Yomi, even if the earth will coll@pse and the only option was for me to wash Yomi’s bo-xers. I would rather hold on to Jesus!”

The seriousness in her voice bur-st us into another fit of laughter. I was holding my stomach for me not to vomit the fried rice and turkey we ate. Everyone was alre-ady on their feet, looking for a sp©t to balance well. You get to laugh like this when it comes to Temi and Yomi

“Debbie don’t ever ask me such nons-en-se again. And I’m serious about it.” She walked away in anger. Debbie ran behind her, followed by Kunmi. I wondered why Victoria didn’t leave. She c@m£ beside me, a cough a little to get my attention.

“Suzy.”

“Yes,” I replied, wondering what she has to say.

“Victor s£nt a text to me, and pleaded that you pick his call.”
“Oh!” I pretended, searching for my phone. I knew it has been vibr@ting since cause I turned the profile to vibr@tion. I brou-ght it out and saw twelve missed calls alone from Victor.
“Are you like this because of Betty?”
I raised my head from my phone at Victoria. I wasn’t expecting that.

“You saw us?”

“Yes, I did.” She confirmed. “I was coming to get you because for some minutes, you still haven’t arrived.”
“Well, is not like am angry. I just don’t like her.” I was being honest. “She almost wounded me, and I really don’t like the look she gives me all the time.”
“You see Suzy,” Victoria began, “about Betty, you will just have to get use to having her around cause she’s a family friend. Her Mom and my Mom are friends. Throu-gh that, she and Victor bec@m£ friends.. and..” She hesitated. “She was actually..his first girlfriend.

Of course! I didn’t let that affect me. May be Kunmi had no idea they’ve d@t£d. I kept quiet listening to her. I really do not know why she was telling me but, I enjoyed her company.

“They just kept the relationsh!psecret, but they are no longer together. Though I know Betty still likes Victor. They just decided to stay friends, but she always take advantage of that. And I know my brother is still confused.”
I heaved a sigh. “You shouldn’t be telling me this Victoria.”
“I have my reasons Suzy. I know you like him too. Even if you deny it, Those smiles that appear on your face whenever he’s around says it all. Just listen.”
She smiled at me. “I know you two are friends, and that’s why you should follow this steps I’m about to give you.”
“You should never expect, demand, or as-sume. Know your limits, where you stand, your role as his friend. Don’t get affected by anything you see or hear about him. Don’t get jealous. Just like you did when you saw him with Betty. Now the last one.” She smiled again

Wow! Nice lecture!

Very good I must say!

“Above all, Just go with the flow. Enjoy it while it last. Forget about Betty. Forget about everything bothering you about him. Make sure you give him a lot to remember. And you know what that means? You know he would be leaving soon after his WAEC exams. I know my brother. That’s the only way you can win his heart and save your heart. Expect nothing in return.”

Wow!

Speechless!

The girl is a great tutor

Who heard that!

What a shame I only did. Everything she said was true. Why was I angry in the first place? I shouldn’t be.
I swallowed my saliva, laughing a little bit. “Victoria. Sincerely speaking, you took me by surprise. Each day, you make me adore you with your intelligence. Thanks for everything. You taking your time to tell me all these. Like, he’s your brother, and I wasn’t expecting all these.”
She laughed. “Lol, plea-se don’t make me blus-h.” She smiled. “I know you two like each other. But if you keep it up that way, you won’t enjoy the remaining time you guys have left. You guys still have a long way to go. Betty was there before you, and here you are. He would leave Crown School soon and meet another bunch of girls. All you just nee-d to do is give him a lot to remember and he won’t ever forget the girl Suzy.”
Did I ever tell anyone this girl can talk? Mehn! She
can talk from Monday to Saturday, not getting tired.
I was just nodding my head, throwing her a smile.

“Thank you Victoria”

My phone vibr@ted, and I looked up at her.

“It’s okay. Take your time but be back soon. It’s getting late. This is quarter to eight.”

I just smiled in return.

I picked up immediately Victoria left.

“Angry?”

“And why would I be angry?” I threw him back with a question.

“Suzy!”

“Yes, you’re speaking with the one and only Suzy James. Not a wrong number Sir.”

The reply I heard from him was his laughter. I could hear him laughing ha-rd and I smiled at my magic of words.
Do I actually make him laugh this ha-rd ?
Wow!
You just started boy
“Am I speaking with s£nior Victor?”
“Suzy are you sure you’re a human being?”
Now, my teeth was wi-de open.

Stupid boy

I didn’t waste time giving him his reply.

“Are you actually asking me that! I think that should be directed to my Mom and Dad because I believe only Human can give birth to Human. Is it ghost you want to start talking to now? you know I can arrange how my great Grandma and Grandpa can start talking to you.”
He was just laughing and I was just smiling.
Just don’t hit your head
And if he did,

Plenty of sorry is available.

“Can we meet at the back of the boys hostel?” He calmly asked.
I didn’t give him the reply quic-kly. The back of boys hostel is like a secluded place. No light, except the stars in the sky. And most of all, their house master. That man was very strict. Not only strict but also wicked. I was always afraid of him, and besides there was nothing for me to go do at the boys hostel. He must not catch anyone around there.

“Okay.” I agreed. I just have to be very careful.

I ti-ptoed when I got there. Thanks to the stars up. I was able to find my way. I prayed no one was watching or saw me. As I heard the gate opened, I dodged at a corner, peeping to see who it was.

“Suzy it’s me, come out.” I heard his voice and c@m£ out, placing my right hand on my che-st.

“You scared me.”

“We should leave,” he said.

As he finished the word ‘leave’, a voice c@m£ out from the other side of the gate. “Who’s there? Who’s that?” It was the house master trying to open the gate.

“Run for your life!” Victor mouthed, running ahead of me.
“What kind of a guy are you? Are you not supposed to save me?” I shouted when I knew we’ve gotten to a place no one could hear us. He turned back and scooped me up on his shoulder.

“Are you crazy? Victor drop me! I’m not some bag of rice or cement. Is that how to save a damsel in distress?”
As I said those words, he threw me and I landed my bu-tt on the green gras-s.

“Yeeyy!!” I screamed out in pain. “You want to kill me? I’ve never seen a crazy guy like you!” I said out of breath.

“Crazy guy like me!” He laughed, and sat close to me. “Only a crazy person can identify a crazy guy like me in a beautiful world, full of beautiful girls like Suzy James.”
How can I hide my blus-h now
I was blu-shing alre-ady.

He knows how to get into my head. But this time, I told him.

“Omo, kolework!” (Boy it can’t work)
He tickled me. My mouth and teeth was opened as I laughed and rolled on the gras-s.

“Ahh! Oma ti work!” He mimicked me. (Girl, the magic has work)
Another surprise indeed. I never knew he knows all these artiste. And his Yoru-ba language (A p@rticular language spoken in west Africa, mainly in Nigeria) was very fluent.

It was a night to remember.

Someone plea-se save my heart
