Leaving the mortuary, they met with the woman just coming out from her car,
“Ahhh you’re here? She asked smiling as Maria angrily approached her but Victor held her.
“What’s going on? The woman asked.
“Nothing ma, we wanted seeing our mother but found out we could not see her why? Victor asked.
“Oh that?……”Madam, who are you to tell who to see my mother or not without my cons£nr? And why the special treatment soaking my mom with ice? Who s£nt you that work eh? Maria asked.
“Wow, I was only trying to be nice because you all abandoned her, she replied.
“Abandoned who? plea-se I am begging you, leave this matter for us. She’s your friend abi colleague is not my business, when the time comes I’ll surely inform her friends and colleagues about her pas-sing away,but for now plea-se stay clear, Maria said.
“Is this how ungrateful you are huh! The woman shouted.
“Wait a minute what do you want? Why are you so concerned sef because e don too do. I can pay you back the money you spent here but plea-se leave her for me, plea-se! Maria said and she looked at Maria for a while and got into her car.
“Just s£nd me your account details! Maria shouted and she drove off saying nothing to them.
“Babe that was rude na, you know she has helped us a lot, Victor said.
“I don’t trust that woman, Maria said.
“But tell me what is going on first, you agreed to see your mother today why? Victor asked.
“Let’s go, she replied entering her car and drove off…….
They got to the hospital and Seth was alre-ady waiting for her. She gave him a work and he saw she was kind of distressed,
“What is it again? I thought I told you to be happy? You didn’t even eat the food I ordered for you what’s wrong? Seth asked and she heaved taking the bag forgetting such a thing was even there.
“I’m sorry I didn’t even remember you brou-ght something, thank you, she said bringing out the food from the bag.
“Sister are you okay? Francis weakly asked.
“Yea I’m fine, in fact this delicious food will make me better. Care to have some? She asked.
“No thank you, Francis replied and she slowly ate knowing Seth won’t let her be until she’s full.
Done eating Bridget call c@m£ on her phone and she picked up,
“Hello lover girl, Maria said.
“Good evening sis, how’s my lover boy? Bridget asked.
“He’s kicking well and awake, talk to him, Maria replied giving him the phone and they spoke for a while.
“Okay so are you calm now? Maria asked when she got the phone back.
“Yes, and thank you very much, She replied.
“Its okay. plea-se how can I see your father? There’s something I will love to discuss with him, Maria said.
“Oh I forgot to tell you, he left to town today for a programme but he promised to drop by the hospital if he’s chance to check on Francis, she replied.
“Oh okay. Where’s the programme going on? Maria asked.
“Give me a minute so I’ll ask my mom. I’ll s£nd you a message, Bridget replied.
“Great, thank you, Maria said and dropped the call and she saw Francis dozing off and she signaled the guys outside.
“What’s wrong? Where Una been go? Fred asked.
“To the morgue, Victor replied and they surprisedly looked at her.
“Yes I went to see her because something happened this afternoon just after you and Seth left.
I think I dozed off but saw myself in an open field with my mother, she said.
“Your we-tin? Victor asked and she told them everything Nkiru said to her.
“Wait wait wait, you mean she was not dead? Oh no wonder when some people dies they are still very active more than they were even alive. A woman like that was in my community. She comes out in the night when people goes out to ease their selves and they will run in when they see her. Sometimes when you prepare a delicious food, she enters your house eating all the meat from the food and it gets soured the next morning. People were scared to even go to their farms because they will see her, so that was what she did eh and Nkiru wanted following? Wonders shall never end! Seth narrated cl@pping his hands in shock.
‘They why re-move her from the ice if that’s the only way to cage her, are you sure you did the right thing or is she trying to pl@yvictim on you so you’ll pity her and set her free? Fred asked.
“If she was pla-ying victim why did she confess all she did and even told me to call Bridget father to go to her room and break the spells she had on us? She asked.
“That woman get s-en-se o, she did that so you’ll believe her and have pity on her to re-lease her from the ice so she will continue with her witchcraft upgrade and even do more to you when she’s out, Seth replied.
“True o! Do you know the kind of power she will have to do times 2? Fred asked and Maria weakly looked at them and scratched her head.
“See there’s something she said that when I take her out from there, her b©dy should be burnt because her master who is keeping her prisoner is planning to use her b©dy for evil, Maria said.
“Hmmm how’s that even possible to burn her? This woman dey use your br@in o be wise abeg, Mark said.
“Abeg fear don dey catch me as i dey so, let’s hear from the pastor first before we conclude o, Victor said and A message beeped from Bridget.
“Bridget pastor is alre-ady in town. I’ll be attending the programme he c@m£ to preach so I can talk to him about this. I’m so worried and to be sincere I saw mama in pains, Maria said.
“She can do that just to make you die of pity babe, witches are heartless and don’t you know there is no repentance in the grave? Seth asked.
“Ahhhh de-ep! But the pastor go tell us more about this story sha, Mark replied.
“Can I come with you? Victor asked.
“No problem, its starting by 6pm and its almost time. I’ll just rush to the h0tel and change up, Maria replied.
“Me too, I’ll go home and change up. Where will I meet with you? In church or? Victor asked.
“In church so we won’t waste time, She replied.
“Okay let’s Hurry up, he said and they left together………..
Maria arrived first before Victor did, but after 5 minutes he called telling her he’s outside and she went out to meet with him so they can sit together.
“I don’t know how I’m feeling now, few months ago the church is where I always loved to be but I felt bad it couldn’t save me from all I was going throu-gh. Couldn’t God have expo-sed my mother for me but he kept quiet watching me suffer, Maria slowly said and Victor t©uçhed her hand.
“I un-derstand, but if God had told you would you have believed? He asked and she heaved.
“Truth be told, I would have cursed the man for life, she slowly replied.
“You see, so calm down and st©p being angry with God, He said.
“But he should have told me. He should have shown me signs and at least use my faithfulness and Service in church to help me somehow, she said and Victor nodded.
“He knows better trust me, he said and she breathed out concentrating on the programme.
The programme was so powerful that Maria was so connected after being far from God for a while. She was on her knees settling things with her creator when one of the pastors that accompanied Bridget father walked up to Francis,
“Where’s Alice? Is she back from her youth service? The pastor asked Victor and he felt like crying to him.
“She died on the way, she’s not coming back, He replied and the pastor smiled ma-king Victor wonder if what he said is funny.
“You said she’s never coming back huh? For your information you are about to go the same path because you’re labelled for the next slaughter, the pastor said.
“Eh? What do you mean? Victor asked and Maria gently stood up from where she knelt to listen more.
“There must be someone inside….. An insider who will give out any member of the family to the devil. The devil can’t snatch anyone that way unless there’s an insider to open the door for him to take whatever he wants. Do you un-derstand or should I go dee-per? The pastor asked and Victor confusedly looked at Maria who looked at him too.
“Look, I see your sister back to the village very happy to tell your parents she will be going for her youth service. I see her leave the village the next day with your parents baptizing her with prayers, and she joined the bus with her colleagues the next morning full of life heading to the camp. Boom! The bus was crashed and the only pas-s£nger they brou-ght out dead was your sister with her face damaged and p@rt of her b©dy cut off, then I ask why! The pastor shouted looking straight into Victor eyes as he shed tears seeing the sight of her sister as she la-id pieced in the morgue when he went to see her.
“What are you trying to say plea-se tell me! Victor shouted.
“Be prayerful, because the blood tank is thirsty and f!ngersare all pointed on you. But the insider is reluctant to give you out, because you’re the only surviving child she has left. I hope you know you lost 2 elder siblings of yours when you were still a small boy? The pastor asked and Victor looked at him.
“Did you just say the only surviving child she has? Are you talking about my mother? Is my mother responsible for my sister’s death? Victor fiercely asked going to the pastor that people had to hold him.
“Calm down brother…… “No! Just tell me, are you talking about my mother? plea-se tell me the truth I beg you! Victor screamed struggling with those who held him while the pastor quietly looked at him and Bridget father had to step in.
“Son listen to me, he said holding him and Victor seeing him was calm and Bridget father breathed out.
“When I saw you first in the hospital, I saw something but I didn’t want to say anything when you and your friends alre-ady doubted me, so i kept my calm but kept praying for you. I apologize he gave out the message raw, things like this I say it to you pri-vate… one by one so you Wont feel offended or embarras-sed too much, not everyone takes in such a message lightly. But plea-se I’m begging you to calm down. Whether you were marked for death, it can never happen and that’s a promise, Bridget father calmly said and Victor fell on his knees crying to him.
“Let’s pray for him, Bridget father said………..
The woman leaving the morgue was so mad with the way Maria embarras-sed her and she quic-kly reported Maria to the master,
“Her daughter is very stubborn just like her, we nee-d to put her in her place, she said.
“Don’t you dare t©uçh my daughter! Nkiru shouted.
“Do you have a daughter? Oh I’m t©uçhed you c@m£ to worry so much for them in your doom. You had the guts to escape and reveal things to her right? You just signed her death warrant because you’ll meet her in hell, her master said.
“And I’ll drag you to hell too if you dare t©uçh my children. I only told her to forgive me and that was all! Nkiru shouted.
“Indeed! Your daughter hates you but she visited you just after you revealed yourself to her and got you re-leased from the ice yet you told her nothing right? the woman asked.
“I told her nothing, you’re the one scared thinking I did, Nkiru replied.
“She’s still talking huh? When I’m done with you, you’ll have no dot of strength to mumble a word to us, her master said stretching His hands on her increasing Nkiru pain.
“plea-se believe me I told her nothing! Nkiru screamed out………….
