Francis arrived home but was surprised Nkiru wasn’t home. He lowered himself on the couch and called Maria.
“Hey what if I’m slee-ping? Maria asked immediately she picked up.
“You can’t be slee-ping outside. There’s a problem, he said.
“What is that? She asked.
“Joe is missing, he replied.
“Is that a joke? She asked.
“Sister I’m just coming back from the station, he’s been missing for hours now
and no b©dy knows where he is, Francis seriously said.
“What ru-bbish are you telling me? Where will Joe go? No one has seen him for years neither has he stepped outside, where does he knows? Maria shouted.
“Sister I’m sorry but shouting right now won’t help. Remember I told you I’ll be visiting Bridget family today? I was not at home so don’t blame it on me, Francis said.
“$h!t! And where’s mama? She asked.
“We were looking for him together but she drove off leaving me when I suggested we go to the police. But I’m back home and she’s not here, he replied.
“Goodness me! I have to come back, Maria said pacing around.
“I just have to wait till morning and pray he comes back, Francis said.
“Keep me in t©uçh plea-se, oh God! Maria worriedly said and dropped the call.
Francis heaved taking his shi-t and trou-ser off and closed his eyes as he la-id on the couch and didn’t know when he fell asleep.
The next day he woke up hearing a car sound and was surprised he la-id tiredly even without closing the door. He sat up and saw Nkiru walked in with a face that didn’t look good and ba-re footed while he slowly stood up,
“You sle-pt out? Francis asked forgetting to greet her but she ignored and walked up to her room saying nothing to him.
Francis took his phone and saw it was past 5am and Victor call c@mÂŁ in,
‘Na now you see my call ba? Francis asked immediately he picked up.
“No vex we no even hear am ring. What’s up? Victor asked.
“I nee-d Una help, Joe is missing, Francis replied.
“Na so you dey pl@yrou-gh pl@yfor early morning? In fact make I go sleep day never break for here, Victor said and attem-pted to end the call.
‘Do I sound like I’m joking? Then why was I bombarding your phones with calls? I was outside yesterday calling you guys and you think I’m not serious huh! Francis shouted that made Victor shook. He quic-kly tapped on the guys putting the call on loud speaker.
“Abeg no vex say I shout but I dey confuse as I dey so, Joe is not at home and my mom just dey come back from I don’t know and the police said they will start searching for him today, Francis continued calming down.
“Where are you now? Victor asked while the guys were trying to un-derstand what Francis is saying.
“At home, Francis replied.
“Okay we are coming, Victor said and dropped the call and sighed looking at his friends.
“we-tin happen? Who lost? Mark asked.
“Joe, he no dey house since yesterday, Victor replied and sat down.
“Na wa o, wahala no dey ever finish even for the sweet sleep I dey take, Fred said yawning.
“What will we do now? Victor asked.
“You dey ask us like say na we carry am abi you sabi where he dey? Na to go his place see how we can help out na, Mark replied stretching himself.
“He dey house, make we prepare go find out how he take lost because e no still clear me. Oga stand up nah! Victor said hitting Fred who didn’t want to leave the be-d.
“Nna eh if you t©uçh me again I swear I go break your head! Fred shouted.
“Na your guy o, Victor shouted running out laughing………..
Nkiru got into her room and backed the wall and her master appeared,
“St©p invading my privacy, she said without looking at him.
“Nkiru! You’re pla-ying with fire, the master said and she turned looking at him with a sm-irking look,
“And you’re un-derestimating this water capable to quench you, don’t forget you have no power now, she said.
“You’re b!tt!g the hand that feeds you, going back to betray me won’t do you good knowing you caused us this, he said.
‘Betray you? I’m simply helping myself since you’ve grown so weak. You cant help me neither can you tell me where my son is, and I gladly left to where I should have been a long time ago and you call that betrayal? No, you’re just scared of what we can do because you can’t contend with us, Nkiru said.
“Has he found your son? He asked.
“None of your business, we gat another plan so stay clear from me, she replied.
“You will regret this, you will surely regret this when I’m back on my feet I promise you, he sternly said.
“You cant do anything, Bye! Nkiru said waving at him smiling and scoffed when he disappeared.
“Mama! Francis shouted knocking on the door and she opened up.
“I heard noises, Francis said when he walked in.
“I can’t talk in my room again or what? She asked.
“Okay sorry, but Mama where did you go to? I c@mÂŁ home and couldn’t find you, Francis said.
“Don’t ask me anything Francis, was I not out there looking for your brother? She shouted.
“And where is he? Last I remembered I left him with you, what did you do to him that made him leave? Francis angrily asked and Nkiru fiercely walked up to him with her eyes inflicting great pains on Francis as he began to scream holding his che-st and coughed out blood.
She closed her eyes when she saw that and breathed in as Francis looked at her scared and ran out of the room, opened the door and fled outside without looking back heading to his friend place.
“Arghhhhhhh! Nkiru shouted not knowing how to solve such a disaster knowing she just expo-sed herself to Francis who wont ignore it. She quic-kly connected to her new master shakily,
“I’ve messed up, my son knows who I am now and I don’t know what to do before he spills it out, she said.
“Calm down, I’ll handle it, he said.
“How? plea-se don’t hurt him, she said.
“You are not to tell me what to do, he said and disappeared and Nkiru fell on the be-d feeling uneasy,
“What have I done! She shouted and ran out of the room.
Francis kept running with that shock without st©pping and Bridget kept calling him on phone but he left it at home when he left to see his mom in her room.
Nkiru saw the phone ringing and felt like strangling Bridget as she threw the phone and left the house to look for Francis.
“What’s wrong? Bridget mom asked.
“I’m feeling strange as I was praying, I saw Francis in danger and I’ve been trying to reach him but he’s not picking up, she replied.
“Maybe he’s still slee-ping because of the stress finding his brother, her mom said and she saw its few minutes past 6.
“No mom, something is not just right and I can feel it, Bridget said calling again but he didn’t pick up and her father walked in.
“Where’s Francis? He asked in a tone that made Bridget not able to reply him.
“His mom is all out for him, he’s in danger, her father continued.
‘What are you saying? His wife asked.
“His mother is a strong witch and a big manipulator of her children. She revealed herself to me warning me, he said and began to laugh..
“She gave you the ring… sorry serpent to drain you and manipulate you so her son won’t love you anymore and you won’t have any access into her house because she sees you dangerous, but no she is dealing with the wrong person for tou-ching my daughter! Her father shouted and Bridget slowly sat down trying to digest all her father said.
“Oh is that so? This is wonderful, his wife said nodding but Bridget ran out of the house taking her hand bag with her ignoring her mom especially shouting on her.
She suddenly rememberd she has Fred number and called him up as she waited for a cab to take her,
“Hi Bridget, Fred picked up.
“Good morning, plea-se have you heard from your friend today? She asked.
“Ermm yes, he spoke with Victor and we are about to go see him concerning Joe. Is everything okay? Fred asked.
“plea-se help me check on Francis, I’m having a bad feeling that he’s not okay, she replied.
“Okay have you called him on phone? Fred asked.
“Many times and He’s not picking up, she replied.
“Calm down okay, we will be there soon, Fred said.
“Fred, be careful with his mother, count your words just in case you see her, Bridget seriously said.
“Wait, you’re ma-king me confused, are you talking about Francis mom? Fred asked.
“Yes, plea-se inform your friends, there’s something fishy about that woman and we will find out soon, Bridget replied.
“Wow, I’ve heard you thank you, Fred said and she dropped the call and saw a cab…….
Francis st©pped running and was breathing ha-rd and searched himself to see he had no money or his phone on him. He was almost close to Fred place and thought of calling them to come pick him up but got disappointed,
“Arghhhh! He shouted and wanted crossing the road but got hit by a car. He rolled on the tarred road and st©pped lying helplessly on the ground and the driver took off thinking he’s dead.
“What’s wrong? Mark asked just after Bridget dropped the call and Fred immediately called Francis twice but he didn’t pick up and he was just thinking,
“Let’s go, Fred replied and left while they followed hitting the road with him.
On the road they saw few people gathered and someone was carried to be put in the taxi when Fred st©pped to see how he can help. They c@mÂŁ down and to their surprise it was Francis on a short and singlet with no shoes on seriously bleeding…………
