Francis drove Bridget home and they walked in to see a surprise at home,
“What is going on here? Francis asked.
“we-tin you see? Fred asked back and Nkiru stepped down.
“Is it bad to welcome my daughter in-law to be in a special way? She asked and Francis looked at Bridget who was surprised herself.
“Mom I thought it was just us nah, this is too much, Francis said.
“As if I did it for you. Welcome my daughter, She said giving Bridget a hvg.
“Thank you ma, this is too much ma and I’m so speechless, I appreciate, Bridget said and she smiled.
“nah dont mention, and What about you call me mommy? Come sit down my dear, she said taking her to the sofa while Francis drew the guys close confused with the whole turn out of event.
“How did you know about today? I mean how was everything planned out this way in such a short notice? Francis asked.
“Courtesy of your mom, she said she wants to welcome Bridget in a br@nd way to show her she’s loved and welcomed, Mark replied.
“Oh God, I’m so plea-sed to hear that, Francis said closing his eyes but felt something in his hand.
He opened his eyes immediately to see an engagement ring,
“Eh? What for na? Francis asked.
“Your mama said I should give it to you, Victor replied.
“I don’t un-derstand, who bought the ring? I never planned for this na and…….. “Ssshhh e don do, propose to that babe now that is just us, if she says no that she wants to think about it fine, if she says yes good for you, Fred cuts in.
“But we are not even up to a month, how will she take this? And even if she accepts where the money to marry her na when I never settle myself? Francis asked.
“Are you Bridget? Besides I know someone who never d@t£d but got the girl engaged, just like a joke they got married. Your mom who arranged for this knows better and can give you every support in the wedding while you concentrate on your business with your wife, continue to dull there na, Fred said and left them and Francis shook his head Weakly thinking about what Fred just said.
While they were drinking and eating and Bridget was telling them about herself and the family, Francis was trying ha-rd to pop up the question but he couldn’t despite the numerous eye contacts that was thrown on him.
“So tell me Bridget, what if we come to your father house seeking for your hand in marriage, will we be welcomed? I nee-d to know o because I dislike embarras-sment, Nkiru said.
“Mommy why will you say that? Why will you be embarras-sed? Bridget asked.
“My dear its a long story. You know once I followed my friend to go see the family of the girl her son was d@t!ng. We didn’t know the girl had a fight with her parents and they transfered the aggression on us, you nee-d to see us that day, I don’t want to experience that again o, Nkiru replied.
“Momsy you don’t mean it? Victor asked.
“I am very serious, it was an eye so-re, she replied.
“Mommy that was bad but my parents are cool people and they will be so happy to welcome you when the time comes, she said.
“In other words if my son propose you’ll say yes? Nkiru asked wi-nking at Francis and Bridget shyly smiled.
“Mommy leave that p@rt for me abeg, by the way the taste of this food is t©p notch, Francis c@m£ in.
“Of course, I ordered the very best for this occasion and I hope you like it dear? Nkiru asked Bridget..
“Yes mommy this is so wonderful, thank you so much, Bridget replied.
“You’re welcome, She said and Francis poured some jui-ce for her…………..
Bridget stayed for a while with the guys talking and Francis didn’t made a move concerning the proposal. He couldn’t flow either with the conversation and Bridget noticed something must be troubling him somehow,
“Love what’s wrong? You don’t look happy, she said.
“Where is that from? I’m so overjoyed sweetheart, he replied and Victor coughed.
“Okay, ermmm I have to go now, you know I have to return back to school, she said.
“Yea and it getting late, but I’ll drop you off at a point where you’ll get direct transport, Francis said.
“Thank you, let me go see mom, Bridget said and went up to meet Nkiru to say good bye but
She met Nkiru just leaving her room,
“Ahh you c@m£ for me? Nkiru asked.
“Yes mommy, i have to go home now so I’ll get prepared for school tomorrow, she replied.
“Oh no problem darling and I’m looking forward to see you again, Nkiru said.
“Same here ma and thanks for everything you did for me today, she said.
“Darling will you st©p thanking me? Just take care of yourself and try not to hurt my son, Nkiru said and she smiled giving her a hvg and they c@m£ down together.
“You’re seeing her off right? Nkiru asked Frank.
“Yes, he replied.
“Okay drive well and see you soon, Nkiru said to them and they left.
“He has not proposed yet? Nkiru asked the guys.
“Not yet I think he will do it at his own time, he feels its too early knowing he has no money, Fred replied.
“Why should be bothered about that when I’m here? Who asked him to put a dime when I’m taking care of it, that boy eh, Nkiru said.
“I told him the same thing but Francis has a mind of his own, but I’m sure he will, Fred said.
“Okay no problem, and thanks for honoring the invitation, she said.
“Ahh momsy its nothing, what are friends for? They asked and she smiled.
“Okay so will you be waiting for him to come back? She asked.
‘Yes, there’s something we have to discuss with him and he won’t take long, Mark replied.
“Then make yourself comfortable, I’ll be in my room, she said and left them to her room. She looked outside her window l!çk!ng herl-ips,
“I hope you enjoyed the show Bridget because its not gonna last, by the way, happy engagement in advance, she said with a sm-irking look and sat down on her mirror checking herself out.
On the way Bridget couldn’t st©p talking about the surprise his mom threw for her, at a point Francis st©pped and parked the car on the way,
“What’s wrong? Did i say anything bad? She asked when he was not supposed to st©p there.
“You asked if I was okay, but the truth is I’m not. I am struggling ha-rd with something so important that I don’t know how to begin, he replied.
“Tell me about it, is there anything I can help you with? She asked and he heaved.
“I don’t know, but it all depends on you and I’m scared of the reply you’ll give to Me, he replied.
“You’re confusing me, what are you saying? She asked and he slowly brou-ght out the ring.
“Will you marry me love? Yea I know its too fast but I don’t want to lose you and I can’t wait to have you as my wife, he said and Bridget scoffed.
“Are there any more surprise waiting for me today? I mean I never imagined all of this unfolding one by one, she said.
“Love I’m sorry if this turned you off I’ll just ask then at the right time, don’t be mad plea-se, Francis said.
“Are you serious? Like very serious? But dear I thought you wanted concentrating on your business before we think of settling down. How are we going to take care of ourselves? she asked.
“I know, but we can always do this together. I have people that will support us without us contributing a dime, babe I’m looking and dreaming far for us both and if that’s your fear plea-se leave it to me. Everything will be okay and I want you Bridget, Francis said holding her hands.
“And you know I’ll be always there for you. If this is what you want and the reason you were worried, yes Francis I’ll marry you, she said and Francis covered his head on the steering for some seconds and inser-ted the ring on her f!nger and hvgged her.
“Thanks love, you just made me a happy man. Thank you, he said.
“And you make me happy too, thank you, Bridget said and he smiled.
“How will your parent take this? He asked.
“Uhmmm you will have to see them, but hey they are cool people, she replied.
“So they won’t mind we just knew ourselves? He asked.
“They dont even accept this d@t!ngof a thing. But love its getting late, when I get home I’ll put you on call so we will talk better okay, she said.
“Sure sure, sorry for keeping you waiting Mrs Francis, he said and Bridget laughed happily admiring the ring.
“Its beautiful and expensive, she said.
“I’m glad you like it, you deserve every beautiful thing, he said and she placed her head on his shoulder as he drove.
Immediately Francis ignorantly inser-ted the ring on Bridget, Nkiru received a signal and closed her eyes,
“Yes, yes, it is done. Indeed there are many ways to kill a rat, she said smiling to herself and left her room telling the guys to have fun while waiting for Francis………
