Francis arrived home and Nkiru hvgged him crying and begging,
“Mama its okay don’t cry again, though you hurt me but its forgiven now, Francis said consoling her and she sniffed.
“It won’t happen again and if I do or say anything you don’t like don’t hesitate to draw my attention to it, she said.
“No problem mama I’ve heard you. Where’s Joe? He asked when he didn’t see him out.
“Oh he must be in his room slee-ping, but I hope you’re okay? This one you’re looking like this were you not eating? Just 1 day you’re becoming lean, Nkiru said checking him out while Francis laughed.
“But I’m not lean na only that I’ve missed swallow. Those guys are so lazy that none can cook, he replied.
“Is that so? Why not go in and drop your bag while I go keep down the soup that’s on fire so you will eat it as it is h0t, she said and he smiled.
“I can perceive it alre-ady, I’ll be back, Francis said taking his bag upstairs while Nkiru smiled looking at him and left to the kitchen.
He peeped into Joe room and saw him slee-ping and decided not to disturb him.
He got into his room and called Maria up,
“Hey are you home now? She asked.
“Sis I just got in, he replied sitting on his be-d and realized someone must have cleaned it up after he messed it up when he wanted packing.
“And what was her reaction? She asked.
“She began crying and pleading again and told me not to hesitate to draw her attention to anything she says or do wrong, he replied.
“Okay, is Joe okay? She asked.
“Yea he’s slee-ping. She even prepared bitter leaf soup for me o, he replied.
“Enjoyment. Anyway have fun and I hope you’ve forgiven her? She asked.
“Sis how can I still grudges when my mom cried begging me? No na its not possible, I’ve forgiven her, he replied.
“That’s good, now i can eat in peace everything is settled, she said and he smiled.
“Yes you can be in peace now. When Joe wakes up I’ll give him the phone to talk with you, he said.
“Alright, talk to you later, she said and dropped the call and he called Bridget.
“Hello love, he said when she picked up.
“I’ve been expecting this call, she said.
“Why didn’t you call yourself? He asked.
“I was scared to interrupt anything, so how did it go? She asked.
“i was warmly welcomed back and promised it will not happen again. And most importantly, I’m about to go eat my favorite soup as p@rt of the welcoming threat, he replied.
“Hmm so the most important one you know is food huh? And not even you reconciling with your mom, she said.
“Eh na, do you know how pains me I’ve not eaten swallow for hours because of those lazy guys? He asked..
“And you’re not lazy yourself right? Anyway I’m glad everything is over and you’re back with your mom, she said.
“Yea and you’re free anytime to visit, she said.
“No no no plea-se, your mom doesn’t like me and I respect that, she said.
“Where is that coming from? You are my girlfriend and she has to know about you, he said.
“But…….”but nothing now. My mom has apologized and is re-ady to do and accept whatever that makes me happy and that is you. So on Wednesday as you’re coming, you’ll be seeing my mom okay no longer as just a friend but a girlfriend, he said and she heaved.
“Wednesday is too soon nau, she said.
“Love its even too far, he said and Bridget noticed her mom was listening to her as she stood by the door.
“Okay I’ve heard you, why not go eat your food, I’ll talk to you later, she said.
“Okay dear, he said and she dropped the call while her mother smiled coming in.
“When did you start eavesdropping mama? She asked.
“I was just pas-sing by when I heard the conversation and decided to check, which mother doesn’t like you? She asked and Bridget rolled her eyes.
“No one mama, she replied.
“Hey don’t lie to me, what’s going on? Are you in a relationsh!p? She insisted and she heaved.
“Yes mama, she replied.
“And you didn’t care to tell me or your father? Her mom asked.
“Mommy its only few days, I accepted him just yesterday and its not something about marriage, she replied.
“What do you mean by that? If its not something about marriage then its about what? She asked and Bridget scratched her head.
“I didn’t mean it that way, okay Mommy this guy is just trying to settle down with a business and we are getting to know ourselves better. Besides he wants to introduce me to his mom on Wednesday I’ll be going to town, mommy plea-se let’s take things easy and slow okay, Bridget replied.
“Bridget! I don’t like this bĀ©yfriĀ£ndof a thing and your father frowns at that. Lets take it easy and slow that was was you said last time. Remember what that silly boy you stayed with for 2 years did to you? Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten how he d@tĀ£d you and ended up getting engaged and married to another girl while you were here in the dark if not his friend expo-sed him to you. Bridget! Her mother said drawing her ears while she was quiet with a sad look and her mother sighed and hvgged her.
“Mama not everyone is the same, Bridget whispered.
“You may be right but I just want the best for you okay. Within 3 months if he is not on his way to do the right thing or even make a step, then I will have to let your father know about this because I don’t want you hurt again, her mom said.
“Mommy 3 months? Francis is still trying to settle down nah, she said.
“That’s final, her mother said and left the room while she covered her palm on her face worried………..
Francis told Nkiru about his relationsh!pwith Bridget the next day when they settled as a family in the evening,
“Cool, though I have to know more about her but what are your expectations in this relationsh!p? She asked.
“That we become couples soon, he replied and Nkiru laughed.
“Really soon? Is marriage a joke to you? She asked.
‘Mom I’m serious and re-ady to make it work, besides we love each other, he replied and she nodded.
“At this point what do you really want? To have a blooming business or to settle down? She asked and Francis heaved.
“To have a blooming business with Bridget by my side, he replied and Nkiru smiled.
“Fine its cool. So what’s your plan concerning your poultry farm? Because if you ask me, you nee-d to be established first before thinking of marriage. God didn’t create Eve first before the garden, he created the garden first before introducing Eve to Adam to help him in taking Care of the garden. Does it make s-en-se to you? Nkiru asked.
“Heyyyy! E make s-en-se die, s-en-se mama! Francis cheered her as she smiled.
“That’s me. Now work towards you ma-king that project a success then bring her in to help you control it if only she’s a good woman and a good manager, then everything will be alright. Remember no woman wants to live in poverty no matter how she loves you, though my son is not poor, she continued.
“Thank you mama. Tomorrow I’ll be at the land and Fred promised to get someone who will design the structure for me. And again I have to go register the business to make it legit, he said.
“No problem, and I’m still working on the promise I gave to you, when it drops I’ll surely sĀ£nd it to you, she said.
‘Awwwnn thank you, Francis said giving her a pe-ck and the consultant he was on gave him a call.
“Uhmmm mama let me pick this call, its the consultant, he said to her.
“No problem, let me go take my rest for work tomorrow, she said and left while Francis picked up.
Nkiru got to her room and sat down thinking,
“He’s thinking of marrying her and that girl is a game changer for me. I dont want to offend him by saying no when he likes her so much, that will cause another rift between us. No problem, I’ll just pl@ycool and stand my ground strong because it won’t be easy. Besides there are many ways to kill a rat like Bridget and I’m learning more of it before that day comes, she said to herself smiling………
Its Wednesday and Bridget pas-sed from school to town to meet with Francis who was anxiously waiting for her. They hvgged each other as he waited to pick her up,
“You look good, he said to her.
“You think so? Are you sure? She asked looking at her self again.
“Hey relax, not that she’s going to eat you okay, remember you once said she’s cool, Francis said when he saw the way she was scared.
“Then was different, we were just friends but today its important to me. What if she says no to us? What if she doesn’t like me? I don’t want that anymore, she said and he carefully looked at her.
“Anymore? Has this happened before? He asked and she sadly nodded.
“I had this guy I was d@t!ngwho introduced me to his family. But they didn’t like or accepted me especially his mom. He wanted defying his mom to marry me without her blessing, but i told him not to that i will wait until they finally accept me. I kept praying for a change of heart and did my best to be good so they will accept me, but they got him another girl and he secretly got married without me knowing. You know when your mom told me I was not welcomed and she doesn’t like me the first time we met I was so scared, it was like my past was returned, she replied and Francis hvgged her.
“This case is different dear, I will never leave you and I’ve alre-ady told mom about you and she’s expecting us at home. My mom is accepting you and you will be very welcomed to my family okay, Francis said cleaning her tears and hvgged her again………
