Episode 13.
All eyes were on Maria as the betrayer of her best friend at work.
Side talks and hisses at different corners and she rolled her eyes covering her head on the desk,
“Maria wake up, its morning alre-ady, she said pinching herself wishing its a bad dream.
The manager was informed of what happened and quic-kly called Maria and Sandra to his office.
Sandra eyes were practically sparkling fire for Maria as they stood in front of the manager.
“I was only gone for 4 days, just few days away to hear that you two brou-ght your differences to my establishment. What’s that for? The manager asked.
“I’m very sorry sir, it was unplanned…… “Unplanned really? Sandra cuts in.
“You talk when I ask you to talk! The manager shouted.
“Sorry sir, Sandra said and breathed in.
“Why were you not in your position? He asked Sandra.
“I was sir, but I thought it was best to clear my head else where, she replied.
“Really? Should i l@yyou off so you’ll properly do that? He asked and Sandra looked at him.
“Anything you say sir, just do it if it will plea-se you and this witch standing here. I’ve just lost my husband and it means nothing to you, you’re not bothered despite my faithfulness here. So just do it, what’s left for me! Sandra blurred out and Maria stood weak wishing she can hold her but that will be a suicide attempt.
“Sandra I’m sorry okay, I’m sorry. Just that i had quite a bad day alre-ady and coming to the company i was welcomed with the annoying news. You know what, just go home and calm down, we will talk about this when you are calm okay. Once again I’m sorry, the manager said and Sandra sniffed cleaning her tears.
“Thank you sir, Sandra said and gave Maria one killer look before leaving.
Maria head was bowed as she was left with the manager,
“Maria, i can’t believe this. Sandra is your friend and i thought you are Better than this. How desperate could you be to go after your friend husband? The manager asked and tears streamed down her face.
“Sir i wish i know what’s going on, its a bad dream i want to wake up from. I will never do that to Sandra, I will never go after a married man, Maria replied.
“Then what’s going on! You just heard Sandra and the workers confirmed it live this morning, what do you want me to believe! The manager shouted.
“I don’t know sir believe me i don’t. I have nothing to do with him, whatever he’s doing and whatever is going on I’m totally innocent and confused, Maria said with shakingl-ips while the manager looked more confused.
“You really nee-d to fix this mess, how ever you can do it just do it! My company is all about team work and i cant keep rivals in it, i want to see this mess cleared and do that quic-k, he said and she nodded.
“Okay sir, she said cleaning her face and was about to leave,
“Maria, I want to say i believe you but then see what’s the cause of this and clear your good Name, he said when she was at the door and she gave a weak smile,
“I’m so glad someone believes I can’t do this, that’s a relief thank you, she said.
“Yea, and you can go home okay, he said and she nodded and left.
She went to her office and took her bag and got to the car park to see Sandra still there on call,
“Hey Mama I’m finished, plea-se try talk to your son, i don’t know what to do again. He doesn’t Even want to see his children, he sees I and the kids as total strangers, Sandra said crying without knowing Maria was close.
“Okay mama, his pastor alre-ady asked to see him and he agreed to, maybe you should join us in church later on since he doesn’t want to talk to you, Sandra continued.
“Mama its 4pm, Sandra said.
“plea-se mama be there, i want my husband back. The whole thing is tiring and I’m losing my mind and my unborn baby, Sandra said and Maria eyes bulged out.
“Yes mama, 3 months gone alre-ady. I wanted telling him on his birthday, i wanted him to be so happy the way he was when I told him about our twins pregnancy. why this mama why now? Sandra asked crying.
“Okay mama I’ll text you the church address, Sandra said.
“Thank you mama, bye, Sandra said and dropped the call and turned to see Maria.
“How much did you hear? Sandra asked.
“I…I…just c@mÂŁ, Maria stammered but Sandra hissed, got into her car and drove off.
Maria cleaned her tears as she watched her drove off,
“She’s pregnant? What does it feels like to carry a baby? Maria asked tou-ching her belly sadly and got into her car………….
Francis was busy working on his upcoming project when Maria weakly walked in and fell on the sofa. He was surprised and confused at the same time seeing its just 12pm,
“Sis what’s the problem? You look like there’s bad news, he said sitting beside her but tears was all he got.
“Sis don’t be be like this, you know you can always talk to me to make you feel better, Francis said hvgging her while she cried on him.
“Come have your rest sister, come calm your head, Francis said holding her up to her room.
Maria quietly la-id on her be-d with a lot going on in her head.
She eventually sle-pt off but got woken up by Nkiru which Francis quic-kly alerted about Maria mood.
“Mama you’re back? Welcome, Maria said sitting up and cleaned her face.
“What’s wrong? Francis called that you walked in crying and you’re still on your clothes, what happened? Nkiru asked.
“Mama you shouldn’t have bothered…… “Eh eh eh don’t tell me that, Nkiru cuts in but Maria closed Her eyes ti-ght and Francis walked in with a glas-s of jui-ce.
“Freshly prepared for you sis, Francis said giving it to her.
“Thanks dearie, Maria said forcing a smile and got it from him gulping it all down and Nkiru got the glas-s from her.
“Ada st©p keeping me in suspense what’s going on? Nkiru asked and Maria heaved telling them everything.
“I don’t un-derstand why Cyril should do this to me. Yes we were campus sweethearts but it ended long ago even before our graduation, why now? Maria asked.
“What nons-en-se is this? How can he just wake up one morning to say he loves and wants you back denying his family, is he mad or something? Francis angrily shouted.
“What hurts the most is I’ve lost my friend, i feel so deserted now. It shouldn’t be Sandra, Maria sadly said.
‘I said it, the guy looks familiar as if I’ve known him somewhere, Nkiru said and Maria looked at her.
“How did you know Cyril mama? She asked.
“You just said you two d@tÂŁd before na and its possible to see you two somehow or maybe he’s not the one. but now what will you do? This is a serious sandal o, Nkiru said shifting the question aside.
“I don’t know but i want my friend to get back with her husband else i wont be myself. I am not married myself and i wont bear to see a happy home crash because of me, no way! Maria shouted and Nkiru smiled tou-ching her.
“Calm down Ada, something is wrong somewhere but i believe whatever and whoever is behind this to tarnish your good reputation, it will be over soon i know that, she said and Maria covered her palms on her face worried.
“Dear take your rest, I’ll hurry down to the office to attend to what i was doing okay. Don’t kill yourself with worry o, take things easy, Nkiru said tapping her and she re-moved her hands from her face.
“mama I’ve heard you, okay see ya, Maria said and she t©uçhed her cheeks smiling and left.
“Sis relax okay, you have nothing to do with this st©p bugging yourself, Francis said.
“Dear don’t worry you wont un-derstand but I’ll be fine, Maria said.
“Thank God, I’ll be downstairs then if you’ll nee-d me, Francis said and left and she la-id on her be-d and took her phone staring at Sandra number.
“I’m sorry, she sadly said and she remembered they will be meeting at the church later.
“I have to be there, no i must clear my name, Maria said………….
