THE NEXT MORNING 🌄
Amberle sat near the window, gazing outside when Terry walked in unnoticed. He saw her sitting near the window and recalled what happened the previous night. She hadn’t notice him walk in neither did she notice he was standing behind her.
He watched her for some minutes then walked closer to her and sat beside her.
Amberle was startled “how did your get into here?”
Terry smiled broadly “Good morning”
“my bad…” Amberle chuckled “Good morning”
“How was your night?”
Amberle’s cheeks turned red “fine”
“Did you get my letter?”
Amberle bur-st into laughter “I did.. And it really brightened my mood. I was initially not happy that you left without saying goodbye”
“I thought you were mad at me so I had to leave”
“why would l ever get mad at you?”
“I don’t know…” Terry shrugged “I just left”
“the letter was a relief…” Amberle said and added to herself “even if it said nothing that I wanted”
Terry chuckled and changed the t©pic “I talked to Zac this morning”
“when is he returning?”
“in two days time.. He’ll be returning to arrange things for the engagement p@rty”
“Goldsax is really getting married?”
Terry shrugged and said “that’s what it looks like”
“Zac must know his reasons.. If he has any”
Terry smiled and placed his palm on hers “when Zac returns, we won’t get the chance to be together anymore”
“why?”
“cause I’m not allowed to come up and you’re not allowed to come down”
“so we can’t even say hi?”
Terry shook his head “this is it”
Amberle’s smile faded and she bowed her head. Terry noticed her change in countenance and pu-ll-ed her into his arms.
“I’m just worried about Goldsax getting married” she said
“that doesn’t have anything to do with you”
“Thanks for being nice to me”
Terry laughed “that’s my job”
Amberle laughed too “Barbara thinks we’re a couple”
Terry smiled and looked away “How would that even be?”
“cute” Amberle replied and laughed
“you’re healthier today”
“Yeah.. The drugs worked”
“see.. There’s no reason to be scared of drugs”
“there is.. A lot of reasons”
“did it kill you?”
Amberle laughed “it almost did”
Terry chuckled and cleared chuckled “um… About last night”
Amberle’s heart skipped a beat and she slowly wriggled out of his grip.
“what about last night”
Terry looked at her and studied her for a while then said “if you don’t want to talk about it then….”
“it’s alright” Amberle cut in “there’s really nothing to talk about”
Terry’s countenance changed. He was disappointed that the k!ssmeant nothing to her.
“Alright”
Amberle glanced him and guilt crept into her heart. She just wanted emotionally stable to talk about it. It reminded her of feelings better left buried.
“can we go out?” she asked
Terry looked at her “You can’t be serious”
“Zac will be back and….”
“The answer is– No” Terry stated
Amberle frowned “I’m not going to ask for it after today.. I promise” she drawled pouting herl-ips
“you made the same promise yesterday”
“I know” Amberle heaved a de-ep sigh
“Amberle….” Terry drawled and pu-ll-ed her close “I don’t want us getting into trouble”
“we’re not going to get into trouble”
“what do you want outside there? I’m here with you”
Amberle looked at him and raised her brows “you’re not enough”
“seriously? What else do you want?”
“people”
“I’m not taking you out ra-punzel” Terry stated in finality and got up from the chair
“ra-punzel?” Amberle scoffed and went after him
“why didn’t you ask Zac to take you out”
“Zac can’t but you can”
“I can’t” Terry spat out and head back to the couch
Amberle hvgged him from behind ti-ghtly and placed her head on his back.
“I want to do out plea-se”
Terry froze and tried taking off her hand but she ti-ght£ñed her grip. He dragged her to the couch and f0rç£fully pushed her to sit down.
“did your mom ever teach you to listen to your older ones?” he asked
Amberle scoffed “older ones?”
Terry leaned forward and placed his hands on the couch, tra-pping Amberle in between.
“How smart are you?”
“smart enough to know you’re not smart at all”
Terry scoffed “I’m not falling for your tricks.. You’re going no where”
“then will you spend the night over?”
Terry raised her brows “do you know what that means?”
“yes.. It means we’re going to spend more time before Zac returns”
Terry shook his head and sat beside her “do you really enjoy my company?
“I do.. A lot”
“I can’t spend the night, that’s the worse idea you could ever think of”
“nothing is going to happen?”
“Amberle you’re coming up with bad ideas.. First, you’re going nowhere”
“alright” Amberle gave up and fell back on the couch “I’ll just sleep”
“Better”
Amberle hissed and shut her eyes. She was really infuriated. Terry was proving stubborn and it was really pissing her off. She tossed on the couch and hvgged a throw pillow. She wasn’t even sleepy but she didn’t want to talk to Terry.
“Amberle?!” Terry suddenly called
Amberle fluttered her eyes open “yes!”
“have you ever thought…” he observed a pause and asked “what if you get pregnant for Goldsax?”
“I’ve thought of that too but…” Amberle sighed “I’m his slave”
Terry looked at her and smiled. He un-derstood what she was going throu-gh, his mom had gone throu-gh the same fate that resulted to his birth. But it had led her to her early grave.
“do you have a family ap@rt from your mom? Someone who can come to pay the debt and take you home”
“I don’t.. My family members forsook us. My mom was the only child of her late parents. My dad’s family forsook us even before dad died”
“so there’s no one to fight Goldsax?”
“No one I know of. Just me against him”
“you’ve got me.. And Zac”
Amberle smiled “thank you”
“you nee-d a nap”
“you want to go out?”
“there’s something I have to check”
“Alright” Amberle got us and walked to the be-d “you’ll come back right?”
“I will.. But don’t expect me soon”
“Goodbye then”
Terry heaved a de-ep sigh. He knew Amberley wasn’t happy he was going out but he had to. Spending time with Amberle was worth the time, but he couldn’t risk spending too much time.
Terry walked out of the room and looked down the dark pas-sage. He had always wanted to see where it led to but never got the chance to.
He used his phone as a t©uçh and started walking down the pas-sage.
There were no more doors, just the long straight pas-sage what was leading to no where.
Terry got to a big portrait hanging on the wall and st©pped. It was a portrait of his mom but someone had torn it with a knife and many knives were stabbe-d to the portrait.
Terry clenched his fist in anger and ti-ght£ñed his jaws. He was furious at what Goldsax had done to the portrait and the sight made tears trickle down his cheeks.
“who is she?”
Terry startled and whirled around to see his Amberle standing behind him.
“what are you doing here?” he asked furiously
Amberle moved closer “I didn’t want you to got down the dark pas-sage alone.. Look you’re even crying” she said and wiped his tears
Terry gr@bb£d her hand and slowly brou-ght it down.
“go back to your room”
.”do you know the woman on the portrait?” amberle asked nonchalantly
“no” Terry lied. He didn’t want to tell her the woman was his mom and Goldsax’s ex mistress.
“then why are you crying?” she asked “you don’t even know her”
“she died too early, she shouldn’t have”
“Goldsax killed her” Amberle replied “he didn’t want to but he had to”
“How?”
“I’ll sure you but you have to keep it a secret”
“I don’t k!ssand tell”
Amberle chuckled and walked closer to the portrait.
“she was just too beautiful. Goldsax was obsessed with her beauty”
“how did you know about her?”
“Goldsax told me but I got the full details about Nerissa Smith right here” she raised the portrait from un-der and turned it to face the wall. Few letters were scribbled on it and they caught Terry’s attention.
“wait!” he st©pped Amberle and moved closer to get a close view. It was more like a letter and Terry re-ad out the words.
📜 To my boy if you ever see this,
I love you more than anything else, I fear something great is going to separate us. Something so inevitable. But whatever happens, I still love you and I’ll forever love you.

Tears were alre-ady trick-ling down his cheeks uncontrollably.
“you’re sure you don’t know this woman?” Amberle was f0rç£d to ask
“let’s go”
“wait! You haven’t seen anything yet” amberle said and pushed the portrait into the wall. The wall slowly moved in and split into two, ma-king an entrance on the wall.
She walked in first and Terry followed her.
She led him to a large, room that looked like a libr@ry. It was full of books.
Amberle walked to a table and picked a match box on the table. She strikes a match stick and lit a candle that was standing on the table.
“this is everything you nee-d to know about Nerrissa Smith.. From her birth to death” Amberle said
