LEGEND POV
FLASHBACK*** Eleven years ago when Kaiden was rushed to the hospital as he collap-sed on the pla-ying ground when we were pla-ying.
“Legend go back inside and don’t let anyone in” Mum instructed pa-nting as the ambulance arrived at our building.
“Mum what’s going on? Why are they taking Kaiden” I asked curiously almost in tears as the nurses carried Kaiden on the stretcher into the ambulance.
“Legend plea-se go back inside” Mum said crying and she entered the ambulance with the nurses.
I went back inside and locked myself up in my room. Worrying about Mum and Kaiden. Any single sound at the outside, I will run to the door and peep on the little hole.
I fell asleep at the door. Next morning I woke up and saw Mum sitting next to me on my be-d.
“Mum you’re back” I asked yawning and Mum gave me a ti-ght hu-g.
“We won’t lose him. He will be save” Mum sobbe-d.
“Mum what’s going on? Did something bad happen to Kaiden” I asked curiously as she broke the hu-g.
“Kaiden is sick, your brother isn’t feeling good. We have to go visit him at the hospital. Kaiden said he wants to see you” Mum sobbe-d.
“Kaiden is sick….” I g-asped and tears roll down my cheeks.
“But he’s not leaving us right Mum” I asked curiously and hu-gged Mum.
“Don’t think such things. He’s not leaving us. He will be alright” Mum said sobbing with me.***FLASHBACK ENDS.
“Kaiden you’re so foolish. Sometimes you make me wonder if you still got br@ins. Not after what you went throu-gh when we were little, you’re planning on donating your kidney to Mum. I may not have br@ins for studying but I know this much that you can’t donate your kidney” I g-asped frustratedly as I sat on my be-d. I picked my phone up and saw so many messages and missed calls.
“I’m sorry guys but I can’t trouble you all with my family issues” I uttered and just then Melody’s text appeared at the top of my screen.
°°° Legend I’m heading to the hospital to meet up with your mum. I plan on introducing myself to her as your girlfriend.°°°
You’re probably bluffing. I really can’t see any of you now so don’t even try to for-ce me out. I g-asped in my head tiredly looking away and swiftly another text from Melody popped and it’s a picture of her at the hospital.
“Oh no, Melody you really can’t be serious about what you just said to me” I muttered out as my eyes wi-de-ned.
AUTHOR’S POV
Melody got to the hospital and went to Cindy’s hospital room.
“Melody breath in, breath out. You can do this” Melody g-asped as she exhaled then knocked at the door. Luckily Cindy’s awake.
“Come in” Cindy said softly and Melody walked in.
“Good day ma’am” Melody greeted with a smile and dropped the basket of fruit on the table.
“How are you? And you’re” Cindy asked curiously.
“Oh sorry about that ma’am. My name’s Melody, Legend’s girl friend” Melody said softly and a wi-de smile appeared on Cindy’sl-ips.
“Are you sure you’re Legend’s girlfriend? You’re too pretty to hang out with someone like Legend. Are you sure you’re not regretting dating someone like him” Cindy said excitedly and Melody chuckled.
“Not really ma’am. We’re cl@$$mates after all so there’s nothing to regret. Legend’s so cute and handsome who would regret being friends with him” Melody blu-shed and Cindy laughed at the sight of Melody’s flu-shed cheeks.
“You are beautiful Melody. Come sit next to me” Cindy instructed and Melody did as she said.
“Ma’am I will peel some apples for you” Melody uttered about to stand up but Cindy held her hand.
“Don’t worry I’m good. Thank you Melody” Cindy g-asped smiling as she had a thorou-gh stare at Melody.
“Ma’am you must have been really bored. How about we do something fun” Melody suggested with a smile.
“I like the sound of that but what are we doing” Cindy uttered with a smile.
Legend ran to the hospital and he saw Melody’s text, he got to Cindy’s room but couldn’t get in.
“What the hell did she tell Mum?” Legend uttered seriously and peeped at the door and saw Melody dancing. Cindy couldn’t stop laughing.
“It’s been long I saw mum laugh like that. Mum really looks happy” Legend g-asped as tears escaped his eyes but he wiped it off immediately.
Melody danced to blackpink Lisa’s song money.
“Wow Melody, how can you be this good? It’s been long I saw anyone dance this good” Cindy complimented with a wi-de smile.
“Ma’am I will come entertain you every two days if you don’t mind” Melody uttered smiling and Cindy nodded positively.
“Sure but why every two days? We can make it everyday” Cindy suggested.
“Ma’am if I visit everyday, you might not want to leave this place and I really want you leave this hospital soon. We’re all so worried about you and we want you to recover very soon” Melody said softly.
“Thank you so much Melody. We’ve only met today but I like you alre-ady and thank you for taking out time to come visit. It really means a lot to me” Cindy g-asped and her eyes bec@m£ teary.
Mum you have to leave this place soon and just like Kaiden said we can’t just seat and watch you lose your last breath. Legend thought seriously and left the hospital.
“Can we meet” Legend said over the phone and hung up.
AXEL POV
“Legend is everything ok? You suddenly called after going into hiding for three days” I complained as I met up with Legend and Grayson.
“I’m really upset with you Legend. You threw me aside as well” Grayson pouted.
“You all can tell me all your complains some other time but not now. I’m really in nee-d of your help and you guys must help me because you’re saving a life here” Legend said seriously.
“You sound a bit serious. Hope it’s not something very crucial” Grayson asked curiously.
“It’s Kaiden, he’s planning on doing something stupid which might put his life at risk” Legend g-asped.
“Kaiden… Oh your elder brother” I said.
“Yeah, Kaiden wants to donate one of his kidneys to mum but the situation isn’t right for him to push throu-gh with it” Legend said concerned.
“Kaiden was once a neukemia patient right” I asked curiously.
“Yeah you told me something like that” Grayson said.
“Yeah and that’s why he’s not eligible to take p@rt in any transplant” Legend explained and we nodded.
“But have they found a donor for your mum? It might be risky waiting for too long. I should ask my @$$istant for some donors” I asked curiously.
“I’m pretty sure, he won’t find any because the rate of kidney failures this month is high so you won’t find but I plan on asking someone and he wouldn’t deny. Back to the what you will help me with Kaiden” Legend said and he signaled us to come closer then he whispered his plan in our ears.
“That will be easy” I sm-irked.
“Hope Kaiden doesn’t take it the wrong way” Grayson said seriously.
“As long as everyone work as per my plan. I’m sure everything will go fine” Legend said seriously looking away.
Something doesn’t feel right. I muttered in my mind staring at Legend.

Kaiden is very stubborn, he won’t just seat back and watch nothing happen. Legend thought as he got to the hospital.
It’s one week alre-ady and Cindy’s situation isn’t getting any better.
“Legend lately you haven’t been eating any healthy food. Are you sure you’re fine” Kaiden asked staring at Legend as they had breakfast.
“I’m on diet” Legend uttered staring at the food Infront of him.
“You’re not planning on doing anything foolish are you” Kaiden asked suspiciously.
“What are you implying?” Legend asked seriously and Kaiden waved the thoughts.
“Mum’s having her transplant today and I have no idea who the donor is. Legend is there something you’re not telling me” Kaiden asked curiously.
“Something like what? Do you think I’m the donor” Legend g-asped seriously and Kaiden raised his eyebrow.
“Are you not”
“Don’t be delusional. Why would I be the donor when we’ve found a donor. What are you saying Kaiden” Legend said bluntly.
“If that’s the case, why haven’t I met the donor” Kaiden yelled.
” Kaiden you surprise me with your statements at times. Don’t you know, some donors keeps their identity hidden. It’s not like you’re planning on ma-king them family after the transplant is over” Legend said sarcastically and stood up.
“Where are you going” Kaiden asked with a frown.
“Somewhere else but not here” Legend said with a shrug and went out of the house.
“Axel, Kaiden isn’t convinced about the donor. I think he might go to the hospital and push throu-gh with his plans” Legend said over the phone.
“Grayson and I will head there immediately before he leaves the house” Axel @$$ured and Legend hung up.
“Even I don’t believe Legend found a donor” Axel g-asped in a low tone lost in thought.
Kaiden was getting re-ady to leave for the hospital when Axel and Grayson knocked ha-rd on the door.
“Who’s there? Do you plan on breaking the door down” Kaiden hissed and opened the door.
“Kaiden…. It’s Legend” Grayson panicked and sweat roll over Axel’s b©dy as they trembled in fear.
“What happened to Legend” Kaiden asked curiously.
“Legend got hit by a truck close to the highway. He’s been rushed to the hospital outside the city” Axel said nervously and Kaiden heartbeat skipped.
“You said what? How did Legend get to the highway. We only had a little argument” Kaiden g-asped not knowing what to do next.
“This isn’t the time to talk about that. Let’s get going” Grayson said nervously and they ran to Axel’s car.
Legend got to the hospital, it was 30 minutes before the surgery will begin. He wore his nose mask and changed into a patient wear.
MELODY POV
“Do you think Mrs Cindy will be fine? She will be fine right?” I asked nervously as we waited at the waiting room.
“Don’t worry the doctors will do their best to save her” Jasmine comforted as she held my hand.
“But what’s surprising is that none of her sons are here. I can’t seem to see any of them around” Jasmine asked and the operation room lights turned on.
“The surgery has started” I said and gr@bb£d Jasmine’s hand ti-ght.
“It’s going to be okay” Jasmine comforted.
“Legend” Kaiden, Legend’s brother called out angrily.
“Kaiden listen to me” Grayson said running after Kaiden with Axel.
“What’s going on” Jasmine asked looking at me.
” Oh no, someone plea-se get Legend out of there. You can’t do this” Kaiden screamed and a nurse c@m£ to him.
“Take your voice down or leave. You’re disturbing the patients” The nurse warned and walked out.
“You guys must think I’m some dummy dude. You think pla-ying me that way would make me change my s-ense of thinking. I must say your tricks worked on me” Kaiden said seriously.
“What’s going on exactly” I asked confused.
“This two dudes here planned with Legend to s-end me far away while the surgery is going on. Why do I feel like my brother didn’t even confined in me before pushing throu-gh with his plans. Do I look like someone who wouldn’t un-derstand his own brother” Kaiden said frustratedly and sat down.
“Kaiden you really nee-d to calm down. Come to think of it, Legend chose to do the right thing. We can’t keep waiting for a donor which will never show up. Enough of the ranting let’s hope and pray the surgery goes successful” Axel g-asped and sat opposite us.
“Axel’s right. Let’s hope for good news” Grayson affirmed and sat next to Axel.
AUTHOR’S POV
The surgery went successful. Cindy and Legend were transferred to the ward to recover for few more days before been discharged.
“I really feel like giving you a heavy punch right now” Kaiden whined looking at Legend who was laying down.
“I un-derstand why you’re upset but I really had no choice, giving one of my kidneys to mum was a far more better idea than you doing so and you know that” Legend emphasized.
“You made such a hu-ge decision about your life without letting me know. Are you sure I’m really your brother” Kaiden said bluntly and sniffed.
“Come on, stop whining. Thank goodness the surgery went successful and mum will be fine in a few days” Legend smiled and Kaiden ruffled his hair.
“You’re so caring. Putting us first before yourself. Thank you so much Legend. You’re so br@ve” Kaiden complimented with a smile and Melody knocked at the door.
“I thought everyone has gone home” Kaiden g-asped looking at the door.
“It’s pretty late alre-ady” Legend uttered as he had a glance at the wall clock.
“I will go get it” Kaiden said and head for the door. He cracked the door open and saw Melody smiling.
“Melody what are you still doing here? Don’t you plan on going home tonight? Your parents might get worried” Kaiden questioned.
“Can I go in first” Melody requested and Kaiden moved away from the door so she would come in.
“Melody you haven’t gone home yet” Legend asked curiously and she sat next to him.
“I was keeping Mrs Cindy company before she fell asleep so I decided to drop by and take over from here. Kaiden you can go home now. I will look over Legend” Melody said softly.
“Don’t worry Melody, I can take care of Legend. I can’t deny you your night rest. plea-se go back home and have a night rest. You’ve been visiting for days now and I’m pretty sure you’re exhausted” Kaiden said defiantly and Legend nodded.
“Melody, Kaiden’s right about that. I really don’t want to be a burden. Thank you for keeping mum and I company. It really means a lot to us” Legend said with a smile but Melody kept mute. An awkward silent swept the whole room as Melody didn’t bulge.
“Looks like miss Melody is determined about staying. I will leave you guys now. Thank you Melody. I will be back early tomorrow morning so you would go home and have some rest before going to school” Kaiden g-asped breaking the awkward silence.
“Kaiden what are you doing? Melody is going to school tomorrow” Legend protested with a frown looking at his brother.
“Don’t worry Legend, I will be fine. I chose to do this so plea-se don’t push me away. Kaiden thank you. You can go now” Melody said bluntly obviously chasing Kaiden away.
“I will go now” Kaiden said and picked his phone from the table then went out of the room.
“That was intense. Why do I feel like I was being a third wheel in there” Kaiden uttered in a low tone staring at the door then head for the elevator.
Melody hit Legend ha-rd on his arm and Legend winced.
“It hurts. Can’t you see I’m a patient” Legend said acting cute and Melody rolled her eyes.
“I didn’t get the chance to hit you when you c@m£ out of the operation room so I’m doing it now. Legend is that how you really see your friends. You couldn’t even share this with us. I was worried sick when Grayson and Axel told me they didn’t hear from you. Do you enjoy ma-king others worry” Melody nagged and Legend chuckled.
“What’s funny” Melody pouted.
“It’s amazing seeing you speak very comfortable around me. You’re cute” Legend said smiling and Melody’s cheeks acted up again.
“It’s okay. I was scared of my mum’s hospital report. I didn’t know how to tell you guys and I really wasn’t in the mood for seeking pity” Legend explained as he placed his two hands on Melody’s cheeks.
“Take your hands off. I will be fine” Melody g-asped je-rking Legend’s hands off as her heartbeat raced.
“You’re still upset with me? Legend asked curiously.
“You will be coming with us to the s-enior high camping right” Melody chipped in staring at Legend.
“The doctor said I nee-d be-d rest for at least a month” Legend said and Melody frowned.
“I have something very important I have to tell you, it’s really not what you’re thinking” Melody said smiling.

AUTHOR’S POV
Melody woke up the next morning and found herself slee-ping next to Legend on his hospital be-d, covered in his blanket.
How on earth did I get on the be-d? Hope it’s not what I’m thinking… Legend can’t do this to himself. He’s not supposed to carry or lift anything weighty or heavy. Melody g-asped in her head as she c@m£ down from the be-d gently and picked her purse then left Legend’s room quietly.
“Good morning Melody” Legend said in a low tone with a smile as Melody left his room.
It’s six days alre-ady. Legend and his mum have been discharged but they were given strict instructions to have a be-d rest for a month.
CAMPING DAY
All the students have been instructed to get into the school bus.
“Melody get in” Jasmine said behind Melody as she looked around hoping to see Legend.
“Do you think Legend will make it” Melody asked in a low tone.
“If he was going to make it. He would have shown up, look Grayson and Axel are here alre-ady but Legend isn’t so that only explains it. Legend might be given restrictions not to join the camping because of his surgery days ago” Jasmine said bluntly as they got into the bus.
“I hope he remembers what I told him the other night” Melody murmured looking at the window.

“It’s been drawn like this” Cindy illu-strated by holding Legend’s hand but suddenly he had a flashback.
FLASHBACK***”On this day is my birthday. I hope you don’t forget it. I’ve never celebr@ted my birthday before because my parents were always busy with work but I plan on celebr@ting this year’s birthday now that you’re around. I want to celebr@te it with you Legend” Melody said in a low tone as she wrote something on Legend’s palm when he was asleep.*** FLASHBACK ENDS.
“Oh shit…. Today’s her birthday” Legend shouted and ran out of Cindy’s room.
“Legend what are you talking about? Whose birthday” Cindy asked but Legend quic-kly put on some nice clothes. Swiftly took some clothes from his wardrobe and placed it inside his jack bag.
“Mum,I will explain everything to you later. Take care of yourself okay” Legend snapped and like a wind he ran out of the house heading to school.
Legend got to school but the security guard refused to let him in.
“Sir I really nee-d to go in. The camping bus might have drove off alre-ady. Sir plea-se let me in” Legend said anxiously holding the school gate but luckily Mr Richa-rd saw him and walked to him.
“Legend what are you doing here? You’re supposed to be at home having a be-d rest” Mr Richa-rd reminded.
“Sir I really nee-d to go to the s-enior high camping. It’s almost time for the bus to take off. Sir plea-se tell the security guard to let me in” Legend pleaded.
“As your homeroom teacher, I took permission from the principal to let you stay at home for the time being because of your surgery and it’s per the doctor’s instructions. Legend don’t try to get in because even the security guard knows you’re on a break so you can’t get involved in any school activities. Your health matters most. Have a lovely day” Mr Richa-rd said with a smile and walked away.
“Sir plea-se I’m all better now. I’m very healthy sir” Legend announced and Mr Richa-rd waved him bye.
What about Melody’s birthday? I have no idea where the camping is taking place? I should try calling her. Legend thought and quic-kly put a call across to Melody.
“The number you’re trying to call is not available” The caller lady announced and Legend tried calling her again but same thing. Her number wasn’t reaching.
“I should call Grayson” Legend uttered and dialed Grayson’s number.
Grayson’s number isn’t reaching as well. They must have left the school premises. Legend muttered in his head confused not knowing what to do next. His phone started ringing and he picked swiftly thinking it was Melody.
“Legend is everything okay. You suddenly left home in a hurry with your bag. Legend you can’t go to the s-enior high camping, I spoke to the principal so come back home” Cindy said politely and Legend gro-an ed silently.
“But mum the camping really meant a lot to me and what about my plans with my friends” Legend said frustratedly.
“I’m sure your friends un-derstand. You’re not fully recovered yet so come back home now, I hope you un-derstand what I mean” Cindy instructed.
“But mum you always said I should never miss any school activities” Legend reminded in a low tone.
“Yeah I said that but now isn’t the time to stick to those rules, your health matters more” Cindy said and hung up.
“Don’t bother trying to convince your mum. They left alre-ady” The security guard cut in and Legend glared at him.
Melody must be feeling disappointed and I couldn’t even wish her a happy birthday. They won’t be back till tomorrow. Legend thought and tried texting her a birthday wish.
“Oh no don’t do it. It will only make you look stupid. Let’s pretend I didn’t remember” Legend said with a shrug and ruffled his hair.
MELODY POV
We got to the camping site and we all got down.
“Everyone go set your tents after that let’s all gather here in thirty minutes time” Mrs Theresa announced and everyone looked for a sp©t to create their tents.
“Melody happy birthday” Jasmine chipped in from no where and I turned to her in shock.
“You look surprised” She grinned.
“I thought you forgot. You remembered today’s my birthday” I uttered not knowing what expression I should give.
“I couldn’t wish you early this morning because I noticed you were out of it and you really don’t like anyone ma-king birthday wishes for you” Jasmine explained.
FLASHBACK*** five years back when Jasmine and I bec@m£ friends.
“Melody happy birthday” Jasmine shouted in a sing song as she brou-ght out a beautiful cake from behind her.
“Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday Melody, happy birthday” Jasmine sang and I pushed the cake angrily to the ground and the cake smashed.
“Melody what’s wrong” She g-asped a bit confused with my reaction.
“Who do you think you are to make a cake or even sing a birthday song for me when my own parents didn’t even remember it’s my birthday today. Jasmine don’t ever do this again” I yelled venting all my anger on her then walked out with tears rolling down my cheeks. *** FLASHBACK ENDS.
“I really don’t know what to say….” I g-asped as my eyes bec@m£ teary.
“Happy birthday and this is a birthday pres-ent for you” Jasmine said smiling and placed the little gift box on my palm.
“Today’s our beauty queen’s birthday” Axel announced as he walked to us with Grayson next to him.
“Happy birthday Melody” Grayson uttered softly and I smiled.
“Melody why didn’t you say anything? I would have brou-ght something beautiful to celebr@te while we’re here. Happy happy birthday Melody” Axel sing song with a smile.
“Don’t worry I still manage to get you something when Jasmine informed us. Here’s a pres-ent for you” Axel added and gave me a beautiful gift box.
“My pres-ent to you Melody” Grayson said and gave me a very little box like that of an earring.
“Thank you so much guys. It feels like today’s the first time in my life I’m receiving so many wishes” I said sobbing and Jasmine pat my back. Grayson’s phone started ringing.
“Oh it’s Legend” Grayson g-asped and my heartbeat skipped and I stared at him as he took the call.
“Legend today’s Melody’s birthday” Grayson announced smiling over the phone.
“Alright, we will talk later” Grayson said and hung up.
“Just that, he didn’t even wish Melody” Jasmine inquired and I frowned.
“Yeah… He didn’t say anything. He only said Melody didn’t tell him and that’s it” Grayson said with a shrug then I walked away.
“Melody” Axel called but I ignored him.
“Why am I feeling bad, it’s not like I told him in person. I only told him when he was asleep so it’s really not his fault that he didn’t remember but why do I still feel hurt” I muttered out and tears escaped my eyes, I wiped it off immediately as I sat down at the other side of the camping site, admiring the beautiful nature.
“Melody, Mrs Theresa said we should all sit together” Jasmine shouted from afar but I ignored her. I stared at my phone but no text from mum or dad not even from Legend.
I stayed out there alone for about seven hours. It was getting dark so I went back to our tent of five.
“Happy birthday” Everyone chorused as I walked in and to my surprise Legend was sitting at the middle of them all.
“How did…. You” I stuttered and he grinned.
“Happy birthday Melody. Wishing you all the happiness you deserve” Legend said smiling and placed a little gift box in my palm.
