Writer’s POV

2months after~~~~

He stepped out of the car, looking quite different from the man from months ago. The stress of the months had faded, and his features were calm and composed. He took a deep breath, letting the nerves settle. Delyn was at his side, her hand resting on his, her touch reassuring.

The employees watched him walk by, their whispers filled with admiration for his transformation. He smiled to himself, feeling a little more confident as he made his way through the hallway.

He walked into the board meeting room, Delyn at his side. Mr. Connor was already there, greeting the board members. Wealth bowed as he entered the room, giving a brief smile.

To his surprise, the board members stood and began to clap. He felt a rush of emotion, a mix of pride and gratitude. He looked around at the people gathered there, their faces full of respect and admiration.

“Thank you,” he bowed again. The applause died down, and he straightened up, taking a breath.

“My name is Wealth Grayson,” he said, bowing once more. The room erupted in another round of applause, and Mr. Connor stepped in.

“As you all know, this is Wealth, the rightful owner of the company. Without further delay, I’d like to introduce him as the new CEO.

The board members smiled and gave an approving nod, then sat back down. Mr. Connor kept talking, and they listened attentively. Wealth stepped forward and cleared his throat, then began to speak.

“I’m not here to pretend to be something I’m not,” he said, looking around the room. “But I’ve spent the last few months learning as much as I can about the company, and I’ve taken basic business classes to make sure I can handle this responsibility.

“I hope we can all work together and make this company profitable,” He continue , his voice full of optimism. “I’ll do my best to run it well, and I hope you’ll all be there to support me.”

They clapped, their faces beaming with pride. One of the board members spoke up. “We’re looking forward to seeing what you can do,” he said.

“ here and now is Wealth Grayson!!!” Mr. Connor said as he stood up again, and tried bowing to him as the new CEO,but was immediately stopped

“Please, don’t do that sir ,” he said, a smile on his face.

“Thank you all for this opportunity,” Wealth said, his voice sincere. “And I’m so grateful to have Madelyn by my side. Together, we’ll do a great job.”

He and Delyn bowed together, and the board members applauded, their faces full of pride.He began shaking each of their hands in turn, feeling a wave of excitement and anticipation. It’s like dream come true.

~~~
He smiled as he walked down the hallway with Mr. Connor and Delyn, the board members having just left. The tension that had been building up was finally gone, and he felt a sense of relief wash over him.
“Call a meeting,” Mr. Connor said to his secretary, who nodded and rushed off to make the call.
They opened the door to the room and walked in, their eyes scanning the room. It had once been Landon’s office, but now it was completely different, clean and well-furnished.
“It’s your office now,” Mr. Connor said, giving him a smile. He could see the excitement in his eyes, and he could tell he was nervous. Delyn stood beside him, giving him a reassuring look.
“Thank you so much,” Wealth said, his smile wide and genuine. He walked around the room, running his hand over the furniture. He walked over to the desk and looked at the computer, admiring the well-organized files.
“I will do my best,” he said, bowing his head in gratitude. Mr. Connor nodded, his smile just as genuine.
“Delyn will be here to help you,” he said, looking at her with a wink. Delyn smiled, feeling proud to be a part of his new chapter.
A knock sounded at the door, and the secretary entered with a smile.
“They’re all in the meeting room, sir,” she said, bowing her head.
“Thank you,” Mr. Connor said, giving her a warm smile.
“Shall we go?” he said, gesturing towards the door. They all walked out of the room.
They walked into the meeting room, and the employees rose to their feet. It was not all of the employees, but instead just the team leaders. They bowed in greeting, and Mr. Connor gave them a nod. They sat down again, and he cleared his throat.
“I’d like to introduce you to the new CEO,” Mr. Connor said, his voice ringing out through the room.He gestured to Wealth, who stood up and cleared his throat,
“Good afternoon, everyone,” he said, his voice clear and confident. “I’m grateful for this opportunity, and I look forward to working with all of you.
“ Welcome Mr. Gray” someone said and he smile in realisation as their claps echoes across the room
“ this feels like a dream” he thought as he stare at everyone
“ Thank you dad” he thought and took his hand to the necklace,gently caressing it.
After the meeting, they all walked out of the room, stopping in the hallway.
“Are you going home now?” Delyn asked turning to mr Connor
“Yes, I have to,” he replied. “You two got this.”
“Thank you, sir,” Wealth said, bowing his head in respect.
“No office romance. Just focus on work.”he said firmly and They looked at each other, both feeling a little embarrassed.
“I’ll see you two later,” Mr. Connor said, and with that, he walked away.
Delyn let out a deep breath, checking her watch. “Wow, it’s already 11am,” she said, sounding a little surprised.
“That was fast,”wealth said and reached out to hold her hand, but she quickly pulled away. He looked at her, a question on his face.
“No office romance,” she reminded him with a laugh and they continued on to his office, a lighthearted feeling between them.
They closed the door behind them, and the click of the lock echoed in the room. He walked to the blinds and pressed the button on the remote, drawing them shut. She turned to him, her eyes wide.
“What are you doing?” she asked, a sense of panic rising within her.
“I closed the blinds so that no one will see us,” he said, turning to look at her. The way she was looking at him, her face flushed, made him feel bolder than usual. He stepped towards her, taking her face in his hands and drawing her close. Their lips met
“Let’s do a good job, and I know you can handle it,” she said after the kiss and He nodded, his smile still in place.
“Thank you for being a part of my life,” he said, his voice soft and full of emotion.
“I should be thanking you,” she replied, looking up at him with a grin. “You’ve saved me in so many ways.”
“I know, but I’m still grateful,” he muttered, and pulled her closer, planting a soft kiss on her forehead. She rested her head against his chest, and they stood still.
“I don’t know, but I feel…different,” she said, her voice trailing off. “I think I should go see a doctor today, after work or tomorrow.”
“Are you feeling sick?” he asked, His face clouded with concern..
“I’m not sick, I just…I don’t understand what I’m feeling,” she replied
“Then let’s go to the doctor today, after work,” he said, taking her hand in his.
“ hmm” she nodded
“I love you,” he said, his words filling the air between them.
“Well, I gotta go,” she said, a smile playing on her lips. She walked towards the door, reaching for the handle.
“Wait, don’t go,” he said, a playful tone in his voice. She turned to look at him, her eyes wide with surprise.
“What? You don’t want me to leave?” she asked, her heart fluttering in her chest.
“Not now……” he said, his eyes sparkling with mischief.
“ see you later, Mr Gray” she opened the door and walked out smiling ear to ear.
~~~~5:30pm

They got into the car and buckled up, then pulled out of the parking lot. They hit the road and headed to the hospital, the car quiet as they drove.

Madelyn sat in the passenger seat, her leg bouncing nervously. She was fidgeting with her fingers, unable to stop herself. She couldn’t help but feel a little bit excited.

“Are you okay?” he asked, glancing over at her.

“Yeah, I’m fine,” she replied, her smile a little forced. “I’m just a little nervous.”

“About what?” He asked

“ nothing” she replied with a smile,looking out of the window.

“ I hope it’s what I think it is” she thought ,blinking repeatedly.

They pulled into the parking lot of the hospital, just a few minutes’ drive from the company. They got out of the car and walked inside, hand in hand. Delyn pulled out her phone and called her doctor’s office, letting them know she was there. They found their way to the doctor’s office,her heart beating a little faster.

“Good evening,” they said, shaking hands before sitting down. The doctor looked at Delyn, a concerned but friendly expression on his face.

“How are you feeling?” he asked, and she turned to look at Wealth,before turning to the doctor.

“I’m… I’m not sure,” she said, her voice shaking slightly. “I feel fine, but… I don’t know.”

“It’s okay,” the doctor said reassuringly. “You can take your time. Tell me what you’ve noticed.”he said and she began talking.

“We’ll just do a test to confirm,” the doctor said, and Wealth raised an eyebrow in confusion.

“Confirm what?” he asked.

“Well, with what Delyn’s saying, it’s pretty clear that she might be pregnant,” the doctor said, his voice full of gentle humor.

“Pregnant? How is that possible?” Wealth asked, completely taken aback.

“What do you mean by ‘what’?” Delyn asked, still glaring at him.

“It’s just… funny hearing this from him, when the doctor said…”he trailed off, his words catching in his throat.

“Said what?”She asked, her voice filled with curiosity and annoyance.

“I… please, just do the test,” he said, gesturing to the doctor. The doctor stood up and started the process of collecting a sample, and Delyn couldn’t help but look at Wealth, trying to read his expression.

“Is it possible to get the results today?” Delyn asked, her eyes full of anticipation.

The doctor nodded. “We can get the results today, but you’ll have to wait,” he said.

“I can wait,” she said, her heart racing. She looked at Wealth, who was staring at her intently.

The doctor picked up the phone and called for a nurse to come and take the sample. He handed it over and the nurse left the room.

“Can I have a word with you?” Wealth asked, standing up.

“Absolutely,” the doctor said, and followed him out of the room.

Delyn sat there, confusion and frustration welling up inside her. “What’s wrong with him?” she asked aloud, to no one in particular.

She could hear muffled voices from outside the room, but couldn’t make out what they were saying. A knot of anxiety started to form in her stomach.

Outside the doctor’s office, Wealth took a deep breath, trying to steady his nerves.

“You see,” he said, turning to the doctor, “Delyn was shot in the abdomen. The surgeon who treated her said that it’s unlikely she’ll ever be able to get pregnant. She has a low chance of getting pregnant, and a high chance of not getting pregnant.” He looked at the doctor, his voice shaking slightly. “I think we should do a scan to find out what’s going on.”

“What?” the doctor said, clearly surprised. “She didn’t tell me about that.”

“She doesn’t know,” Wealth said. “The surgeon who operated on her told me, but I wasn’t ready to tell her. It would hurt her too much.”

“But it’s been over a year and a half,” the doctor said. “That’s plenty of time to tell her. Don’t you think she deserves to know?”

“She does,” Wealth said. “But I just… I don’t want to see her hurt”

“Alright,” the doctor said. “We’ll do the scan and I’ll talk to her. But first, we need to wait for the results.”

“ okay” he nodded and they both went back into the office.

Delyn sat there, biting her tongue to keep from asking any questions. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, a nurse came in with the results. She handed them to the doctor, who scanned through them quickly.

He looked up at Wealth, a bemused look on his face.

“ what does it say?” Delyn asked

“ congratulations you’re pregnant” the doctor said with a smile , although he was confused

“Oh my god,” Delyn exclaimed, her face lighting up. “I’m going to be a mother!”

“Well, we’ll need to do an ultrasound to be sure,” the doctor said. “It’s not uncommon for the test to give a false positive result.”

Delyn looked down at the results, her brow furrowed. “But the results say I’m pregnant. Why would they be wrong?”

“We need to make sure you’re really pregnant, and that everything’s okay,” the doctor explained. “Please, Delyn, let me do this. Come with me.”

“What did you tell him?” Delyn asked, her voice quivering. She looked at Wealth, her eyes searching his face for an answer.

“Nothing,” he said, shaking his head. “Come on, let’s just go.” He took her hand and they walked out of the office together.

~~~~
It was already late, but who cares at a time like this?. Delyn’s thought we’re racing and couldn’t focus on anything else. She stared at the doctor, her mind spinning as she tried to process everything he had just told her. She glanced over at Wealth, her eyes full of uncertainty. Then she looked back at the doctor, her brow furrowed.
“I’m sorry to say this, but having this baby could put your life at risk,” the doctor said gently. “You have a lot of damage to your ovaries, and I’m concerned about the risks involved in continuing this pregnancy.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?” she yelled, tears streaming down her face. She pounded her fists against his chest, unable to contain her emotions. “How could you keep this from me?”
He stood there, letting her hit him, each blow feeling like a physical manifestation of her pain. He didn’t try to stop her, or defend himself. He just took it, knowing that she needed to release the emotions that were swirling inside her.
“I’m sorry,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper. He reached out and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close.
She stiffened in his embrace, and could feel her trembling with emotion. Suddenly, she pulled away, pushing him away with force. “I have to go,” she said, her voice shaking.
He stood there, watching her walk away, the words of the doctor echoing in his mind. “She won’t survive it if she keeps this child,” he said. “We have to terminate the pregnancy.”
“I’ll call you later,” he said to the doctor, who nodded in understanding. Then ran out of the office.
He rounded at the parking lot,panting slowly and saw her standing there, her back to him. She was leaning against the car, her body shaking with sobs. He walked slowly towards her, not wanting to startle her.
“Take me home,” she said as he approached, her voice thick with emotion. She opened the car door and slid into the passenger seat, tears still streaming down her face.
He got into the driver’s seat, and reached over to help her with her seatbelt. He studied her face, noticing the way her eyes were red and puffy.
“ I’m sorry…..
“Just take me home,” she replied, her voice barely audible. He nodded and started the car, pulling out of the hospital parking lot.
The ride home was punctuated by her stifled sobs, the silence of the car offering little solace for her inner turmoil. As they pulled up to their doorstep, she bolted out of the car, her heart a drumbeat of anxiety and despair. She flew into the house, her feet barely touching the stairs as she ascended to the room.
“Love!” he called out, his voice chasing after her like a phantom.
She rushed into the room and slammed the door shut, locking him out with a decisive click.
“Love please!!” He said knocking on the door, but his pleas were met with a chorus of sobs and anguished cries, a symphony of heartbreak emanating from the room
