HOSPITAL**

“Thank you, doc,” Aria said in a low tone.

“You are welcome, dear. Don’t worry, your dear friend will be okay.”

She smiled.

“I will leave you to her now.” He turned around and left the VIP room.

Aria let out a de-ep sigh and went to seat beside Layla who was still unconscious.

The young lady had a band-aid on her right cheekbone and her left hand was wrapped up with a white bandage. Hopefully, she doesn’t have any infection from the glas-sthat pierced throu-ghher palm.

“Why are you doing this to yourself, Lottie?” Aria questioned, staring down at her friend. “Why are you hurting yourself this way? You are walking throu-ghthe broken gla-sses and I’m afraid you’re going to get hurt once again. Please, listen to me and give up on Mikhail. For your sanity and happiness. Please, Lottie. Forget about him. Because whatever decision you take now will determine your future. I really want what’s best for you. I wish you could listen to me.” She lightly touched Lottie’s hand but there was no response. “I don’t want to lose you again.” Aria cried.

DIAMOND’S ROOM**

“How do you feel now, dear?” Evelyn asked, holding a glas-sof juice.

Diamond sat upright on the bed and smiled. “I’m fine, Evelyn. Thanks for your concern.”

“It’s nothing. Here,” She handed the glas-sof juice over to the nanny. “I brou-ght this for you.”

“Oh.” Diamond collected it. “Thank you so much. I appreciate the kind gesture.”

“Stop thanking me for every nice thing I do.”

“I can’t help it.”

The woman sat down on a chair away from the bed. “I heard what happened between you and Lottie.”

Diamond quietly nodded her head and sipped from the gla-ss.

“What really happened?”

‘I thought you heard what happened, why are you asking me now?’ Diamond said in her mind, fighting the urge to roll her eyes.

“Well…she threatened to get me fired simply because the kid loves me more. I don’t know.”

“What?”

“You find that weird too, right?”

Evelyn slowly nodded her head. “Very weird. I mean, that’s not enough reason to make you kneel for over thirty minutes. Gosh.”

“I thought so too.” She took another gulp of the juice and sighed. “I never wanted the boss or the kid to see the scene but they did.”

‘fuc-k , I hate being the center of attention. I can’t fuc-k ing do the things I want. Why? Because my legs are supposed to hurt in the meantime. Why does it feel like I did myself harm by playing a game like this? Yes, I showed the bit-ch who’s got the power but look, here I am drinking freaking juice on the bed with my legs placed over a damn pillow. I’ve been here for the past hour. Argggh!’

“Miss Chase,” Evelyn called out, cutting throu-ghthe nanny’s thoughts.

“Yes?”

“Please avoid Lottie.”

“Wha…what?”

Evelyn stood up and dropped her hand on Diamond’s shoulder. “Whatever she does, ignore her. That girl is mentally deranged.”

“What?” Diamond was still looking very confused. “What are you saying, Evelyn? I think you are taking this too far. Miss Lottie is merely a young lady who wants the attention of her little niece. I don’t see anything wrong with that. Besides, what harm can someone like her cause?”

“That’s what everyone will think until she strikes. Lottie might look normal but trust me when I say she isn’t. You actually think she is here because of Aurora?” Evelyn laughed. “If that was the case, I wouldn’t be so worried. I don’t want her to see you as a problem that needs to be taken down. Aurora loves you which makes you someone very important in this house. Be careful, that’s all I can say.” She squee-zed Diamond’s shoulder lightly and then left the room.

FELIX’S PLACE**

“Oh, shit.” Felix gro-aned, peeling his eyes open. He sat upright on the couch and placed his hand over his forehead, hissing. “Damn. My head fuc-k ing hurts.”

“Of course, it will.” A voice said, grabbing his attention.

He looked up and found Rosalie staring at him with a single brow raised. “Oh, shit. Rosa, what the fuc-k are you doing here?”

She rolled her eyes and handed him a mug of steaming coffee and aspirin. “Take this for your hangover.”

He hesitantly collected them from her. “You still haven’t told me what you are doing here.”

“I wouldn’t be here if you didn’t call me over, Felix. You were literally crying over the phone. I had to rush down here thinking something bad has happened to you only to come here and find you completely wasted as early as 9 am.”

“fuc-k .” He cursed under his breath. “Please tell me I didn’t do something embarra-ssing.”

“Tell me you didn’t forget anything…”

“Wait, am I supposed to remember anything?”

“Apparently.”

“What? Oh no. What did I do? What did I say? Was it embarra-ssing?”

She sighed. “I hoped for you to remember everything but seems like you can’t.” She shrugged. “Don’t worry, nothing unusual happened. However, you were acting like a complete idiot. For your pride, don’t ever get drunk again.”

Felix threw the pills inside his mouth and sipped from the coffee mug and then swallowed. “Thank you.”

She nodded. “You are welcome. I made something for us to eat, hope you don’t mind?”

“Of course not. I am actually famished.”

“I know you will be. Let’s go.”

He stood up and they both went over to the island table and took a seat beside each other.

“Pasta?” He frowned.

“What? You don’t like it?”

“I can’t judge when I haven’t taken a bite. I just didn’t know you could cook.” He said.

“There are a lot of things you don’t know about me, Felix.” She smiled.

“Things…like?”

“Eat your food, Felix.” She said dismissively.

“Okay.” Felix took a spoonful of pasta and shoved it into his mouth. He mo-an-ed and nodded his head approvingly. “Wow. It’s delicious just as it looks. fuc-k , you are really good, Rosa. I can see poll dancing isn’t the only thing you know how to do.”

“That’s offensive.” She said, a little bit annoyed.

“Oh. I didn’t mean to poke a nerve. I’m sorry.” He mumbled.

She rolled her eyes. “Hmm.”

They ate silently for a while until Rosalie spoke up.

“So, what happened to you?”

“What do you mean?”

“While drunk you said a lot of things. Like, how the world is against you. You said your best friend doesn’t want to have anything to do with you and also your fiancee doesn’t want to get married to you again. Care to tell me what happened?”

Felix heaved out a de-ep breath, shoving another pasta into his mouth. He shrugged. “A lot of shit has been happening lately. I’m losing my sanity and honestly, I have nobody else to blame but myself.” He faced Rosalie. “I am not a good person.”

She nodded. “I know. You cheated on your fiancee with your best friend and cheated on your best friend with me. That’s quite…a lot.”

He smiled with the side of his li-ps and looked down at his food. “I know. I am a jacka-ss.”

“That, you are.” She agreed.

“Well,” He paused. “that’s not the full story, you know?”

“I know. And I hope you will tell me one day. Who knows maybe today is the day. Regardless, I will always be here to listen.”

“You are a girl with a beautiful soul, Rosa. No wonder they say, do not judge a book by its cover.”

“Mm-hmm. I’m glad you know what a good person I am now. Hey, you are changing the subject.”

He chuckled. “Sorry. What do you want to know?”

“I don’t know, everything?”

He paused. “I was never engaged to my fiancee.”

“Huh? Okay, that’s…complicated and confusing. How about you elaborate?”

“My fiancee and I only dated. I never went down on one knee to ask her a valid question.”

“Did she ask you to marry her then?”

“It would have been less complicated if that was the case.” He said. “She caught me making out with my best friend in a restaurant and ended things with me.”

“What the hell?”

“That su-ck. I know.” He took a sip of water. “Five years later, her father contacted me. It turns out to be that she hasn’t told her parents about the news of our break-up.” He stopped talking.

“And?” Rosalie pressed on, waiting patiently for him to continue talking.

“I…lied. I told her father that we were engaged and wanted to keep it away from them to surprise them with the news. Honestly, I am in desperate need of money. Diamond’s father is rich and influential. He is the founder of one of the most famous companies in Mexico. She is the only child which makes her the sole heir to his numerous properties.”

“You are trying to say that you lied to a man old enough to be your father because of greed?”

“I won’t call that greed.”

“Oh, really? Then what is the better name to call it? You cheated on her with your best friend and as if that was not enough, you lied about being engaged. Do you know what that means, Felix?”

“I am not telling you all this so you can judge me, Rosa.”

“Does it look like I’m judging you because trust me, I’m not. I think your conscience is the one doing the judgment. You know of your wrongdoings. You don’t need me or anybody to point it out to you.”

“What are you trying to say?”

“As I’ve always told you, I have no right to judge you, your best friend or fiancee. I have my life to live and I know for a fact that a lot of people who don’t know my story are judging me immensely. They think they know me when in reality, they don’t.” She stared intently into his eyes. “You lied to your ex-girlfriend’s father for a very selfish reason. You refer to her as your fiancee which means she played along with your lies and deceit. And now that she doesn’t want to marry you, it means she didn’t accept to marry you because she still loves you but because she wanted revenge. You hurt her, Felix. Anyone in her shoes would hurt you much worse. You should be glad she didn’t even call the cops on you.” She gulped. “Leaving that aside, how come are you still fuc-k ing your best friend?”

Felix bites his lower li-p and looked away.

“Felix! You are still cheating on the poor girl.”

“It’s a fake engagement. I don’t owe her any commitment. I am a human and I have blood flowing throu-ghmy veins. I can’t become a celibate simply because I want to be faithful to a girl who only wants revenge.” He huffed.

Rosa couldn’t hold it in anymore. She smacked Felix on the back of his head.

“Ow, what was that for?” He scowled at her.

“You claim that the whole world is against you…” She shook her head. “You are the one who turned your back against the world. I can’t believe I sacrifice my good sleep because of this pointless conversation.” She stood up and walked to the couch where her handbag was.

Felix rushed to her. “What are you doing? I thought you said you wouldn’t judge. I thought you said you will be here to listen.”

“I did. You know why?” She tilted her head to the side. “Because I thought you had sense. I thought you were one of the few men out there who respect and values women. But I guess I was wrong. You are just one of the thousands who think women are a bunch of trash.” She snatched her bag from the couch. “You don’t want the world to be against you? Then start treating women right!” She stormed out of the house.

“What the fuc-k ? She didn’t even wait to hear the whole story. I fuc-k ing need advice on how to win Diamond’s love back.”

A FEW HOURS LATER**

“Thank you for the food, Evelyn,” Aurora said.

“You are welcome, honey.”

“Thank you.” Diamond said.

“You’re welcome. Hope you enjoyed the food?”

“Absolutely. You are the best.”

Evelyn smiled in return.

Diamond and the little girl left the dining room.

Aurora sighed depressingly and stared at the wall clock. “I wonder where daddy is.”

“Hmm. Are you that worried about him?”

“Yes. He didn’t even eat dinner with us. And I know he wouldn’t unless I force him to.” She pouted.

“Don’t worry, I will make something for him to eat, okay?”

“Pancakes?”

“You know my specialty. So you see, you have nothing to worry about.”

“Should I stay awake to give him the pancakes?”

“You should go to bed. Tomorrow is Monday, right?” Aurora nodded her head. “I will serve him the pancakes myself so you have nothing to worry about, okay?”

“Okay, nanny. Thank you and I love you!”

“Hmm..”

The kid rushed upstairs and disappeared into her bedroom.

“Why do I keep making pancakes? This kid is turning me into something I’m not…but on the brighter side,” She smirked. “I get to see the boss. I have nothing to lose then.”

AN HOUR LATER**

Marcello entered the kitchen, looking completely tired. “Oh, fuc-k . I’m hungry.”

“Your food is in the fridge, you can microwave it and eat.” Evelyn said, stepping out of the kitchen.

A few seconds later, Diamond emerged.

“Marcello, here you are. I can see you are back from wherever you went to.”

“Yeah.”

“Does that mean the boss is upstairs?” She wiggled her brows.

“Why are you asking?”

“What sort of a question is that? Why else will I be asking?”

“I don’t know. You are so mischievous and whatever you do or are interested in scream trouble.”

“I didn’t know you see me as a troublemaker, Marcello.”

Are you not?”

“Why am I having this pointless conversation with you?” She scoffed and grabbed a plate covered up from the refrigerator and dropped it on a tray.

She made the pancakes earlier before their return.

“What is that?”

“Mind your damn business, a-sshole.” She poured milk into a glas-scup and left the kitchen, humming.

“Whatever.” Marcello rolled his eyes. “I hope no one goes to see the boss in the state he is in.” He murmured, taking out his potion of food from the refrigerator to microwave it.

MIKHAIL’S BEDROOM**

His head hurt so badly. He could barely breathe.

Mikhail sat on the ground with his head buried in between his thighs. Whenever he had headaches like this, his dear wife was always there to soothe the pain with her magical fingers. She would tell him to lie down and place his head on her lap while she ma-ssages his temple until the pain stops.

But ever since she left…there was no one to soothe his pain for him. He would just curl himself on the floor and cry himself to sleep. Life has been so unfair to him.

There was a quiet knock on the door.

Mikhail ignores it but, the person didn’t stop knocking which increased the ban-ging in his head.

He hissed in anger, balling his fist. “Wh…who the fuc-k …who…”

The door flung open and his daughter’s nanny stepped in, having a worried look on her face.

“Boss, are you okay?” She asked, dropping the tray on the table and rushing to kneel beside him. “What happened? You look so much in pain.”

Again…she was seeing him in his most vulnerable state. Why her?

“Get…get…oh, fuc-k , my head.” He gro-aned, hanging his head low towards where the nanny sat.

“Does your head hurts?” He didn’t answer her. She scooted closer to him and boldly brou-ght her hands up to her boss’s head. She gently started ma-ssaging his temple.

Mikhail creased his brows, and memories of his wife doing exactly the same filled his head.

“This will soothe the pain.” The nanny said calmly.

Mikhail slowly looks up at her. Their eyes met and they held each other’s gaze.

He momentarily glanced down at her li-ps before staring back into her eyes.

Her hands stopped moving but she didn’t pull them away from his head either. She could hear the loud beat of her heart as she kept staring de-eply into her boss’s eyes.

The next word that came out of his mouth shocked the hell out of her.

“Diamond…” He dropped his forehead on her shoulder while Diamond’s hands hung in the air, and her eyes wide-ned in complete shock. “You are here…”
