DIEGO’S HOUSE**

“Are you leaving already?”

“Yes. Someone very important just called. I’m sorry.”

“Nah. You shouldn’t be. You’ve done more than enough and thank you.” Diego smiled.

“Hmm. I promise to return later today.”

“Don’t bother.”

“I care about Layla. She’s my best friend, Diego. I won’t be at ease until I’m certain she’s alright. I would have stayed longer until she woke up but the call…”

Diego nodded in understanding. “I get it. Go on, run along.”

“If she wakes up and I’m not back…please give me a call.”

“Okay. Now go and stop keeping the ‘important’ person waiting.”

Felix smiled and rushed out of the room.

Diego let out a de-ep breath and sat down on the bed. “You have a wonderful friend, honey. Felix is an amazing guy, trust me.”

THIRTY MINUTES LATER

AIRPORT**

Felix looked around in search of one particular person amongst the throng.

He drew out his phone from his pocket and dialed Elodie’s number. It rang for a while until she finally picked.

“Felix, where are you?”

“I just arrived at the airport. Where are you?”

“Come over to the coffee shop beside the airport. I’m there.”

“Okay.” He cut the call and left the building.

****

COFFEE SHOP**

They were a few people in the shop so it was easy for Felix to spot Elodie.

He waved and strolled towards her, smiling widely.

“Oh, mother.” He called as he got closer to the booth where she was seated and then sat down opposite from her. “When did you arrive in Las Vegas? Or are you just coming in?”

She shook her head. “No. I came over this morning.”

“Why didn’t you call me? I would have picked you up from the airport personally.”

“It was too early, you were probably asleep at that time.”

“I doubt. Anyway, what brou-ght you here?”

“Let’s order something to drink first.” She waved her hand to a waitress.

“Good day ma’am and sir.” The young girl smiled, cheerfully at them. “Welcome to divine coffee shop, what can I offer you?”

Elodie nodded her head toward Felix. “Place your order. It’s my treat.”

“I should be the one doing this. In fact, I should take you all over Las Vegas, showing you my favorite places and so on.”

“That won’t be necessary. I will be heading back to Mexico any minute from now.”

“I see. Okay,” He faced the waitress. “Americano, please.”

She wrote it down on a little pad. “What about you, ma’am?”

“Black coffee will do.” Elodie answered.

“Just plain black coffee?”

“Yes.”

“Okay.” She walked away from their booth, going to place their orders.

Felix smiled, “It’s so glad to have you here, mother. I wish you could stay longer.”

“There’s nothing so interesting about Las Vegas. I can’t stay here any longer.” She said.

“Well, there are interesting places here, trust me.”

“Trust you…” She repeated, crossing her legs over the other. “Felix?”

“Yes, mother?”

Elodie didn’t talk as the waitress returned with their orders and placed them in front of them.

“Enjoy.” She said and then went to answer a customer that was just coming in.

Elodie grabbed the cup of black coffee and took a sip.

She cringed. “Yuck, it’s bitter.”

Felix chuckled. “You can have my Americano.” He pushed it towards her side but she refused it. “Why?”

“It’s my treat, remember? You ordered it so have it.”

“But you don’t seem to like the black coffee.”

“Yeah, I will manage. After all, I ordered it as well.” She dropped the cup on the table, sighing. “Remind me never to order this again whenever I visit Las Vegas in the future.”

“I sure will. But does this mean you will come back again?”

“Ah…nope.”

He laughed. “So,” He readjusted himself on the chair. “You were going to say something before the waitress came with our orders.”

“Oh, yes.” She cleared her throat. “Felix, you know I’ve always liked you from the moment I set my eyes on you.”

“Yes, mother. You’ve always rooted my relationship with Diamond.”

“I’m glad you know that.”

Felix took a sip of his drink.

“Have you always been honest with me?”

He paused, looking confused. “Yes. Of course. Why do you ask?”

“Are you sure you haven’t kept anything away from me?” She asked again, raising a questioning brow at him.

Felix hesitated before nodding his head. “Yes. I will tell you anything and you know it.”

“I visited Diamond this morning and she told me something shocking.”

Felix’s face dropped. “Wh…what?”

“You seem frightened, son. What’s wrong?”

Felix gulped. “N…Nothing. I’m…I’m just wondering what it is she could have told you.” He stuttered.

“Something I hope is a lie.” She said. “I will ask you again, do you have something to tell me?”

‘Sh*t, that bit-ch told her mother. Has this been her plan?’ He gro-aned in his head, clenching and unclenching his fist.

“You are not saying anything.” Elodie pressed on, watching him closely.

“I’m sorry.” He muttered.

“Which of them are you admitting to? The lying aspect or the cheating?” She questioned.

‘What the hell? She told her mother about five years ago as well. Seriously?’ Felix thought to himself, eyes bulging open.

“Or both?” She added.

“I’m sorry.” He repeated.

“God.” Elodie breathed out, running her fingers throu-ghher hair. “How could you, Felix?”

“It all kinda happened. I’m sorry.”

“You cheated on her with your best friend. That’s…” She paused thinking of the right word to use. “That’s awful. Rhodes won’t take this lightly when he finds out. Not only did you cheat on Diamond, but you also lied to our faces about the engagement. What are we to you exactly? Idiots?”

Felix quickly dropped to his knees, “Mother…”

Elodie looked around to see those in the coffee shop looking at them and most of them had judgmental looks on their faces.

“What are you doing?” She asked in a whisper, feeling uncomfortable.

“I wronged you and father. I’m so sorry for lying about the engagement. I should have come clean but I swear, I am still in love with Diamond.”

“You cheated on her.”

“I know. And I have no excuse for that. I feel so ashamed of myself. But I’ve turned a new leaf. I even stopped hanging out with Layla.” He lied.

“Layla?”

“The girl I cheated on Diamond with.” He murmured.

“Sit down.” She requested, not having a happy look on her face. She was disappointed in him.

“No…until you forgive me.”

“Sit down, Felix.” She said with a more commanding tone.

“Okay.” He quickly did as he was told. “Do you forgive me?”

“This isn’t about asking for forgiveness. Diamond does not want to get married to you again and I can’t let that happen. I’ve spent too much and invited people from all over the world. How do I tell them that the wedding has suddenly been canceled with no reasonable explanation? Because there is no way I’m going to let people know that you fooled my husband and me.”

“I’m sorry.” Felix mumbled, keeping his li-ps in a straight line.

She sighed. “Make sure she agrees to marry you. I don’t know what you are going to do or how you are going to do it,” She pointed her index finger at him. ”You must marry Diamond in two weeks and that’s final.”

Felix nodded. “I will. But what about father? He will be very mad at me if he finds out about the lie and cheats.”

“I will take care of him. All you have to do is to get Diamond to accept this wedding. Have I made myself clear?”

“Yes, mother.”

“Good.” She stood up and grabbed the bag lying on the floor. “It is time. My flight will be leaving in…” She checked her wristwatch. “twenty minutes.”

Felix rose to his feet. “I will see you off.”

“Thank you.” She paid for the drinks and then left the coffee shop alongside Felix.

Ca-ssANO’S MANSION**

“Where are you off to?” Lottie asked, staring at Paige who was about to step out of the house.

“I’m going to pick up Miss Aurora from school.” The maid answered.

“What about the nanny? Where is she?”

“Mr. Ricco said she had something important to do.”

“How important is it?”

“I don’t know. But according to him, it’s personal.”

“What is wrong with that nanny?” Lottie said at the top of her voice. “How can she choose something personal over my niece? Is she crazy?” Paige stayed quiet. “Gosh. Anyway,” She straightened her short dress. “Stay back.”

“Ma?”

“I said stay back. I will get Aurora out of school myself.”

“Bu…But…”

“Get out of my sight.” Lottie pushed Paige out of her way and left the house.

“That bit-ch .” Paige growled, balling her fist.

SCHOOL**

Aurora excitedly comes out of the huge building, running past parents, teachers, and students. She was super excited to meet her nanny.

But the smile disappeared as soon as she saw her aunt standing beside the car while pressing her phone.

Aurora slowly walked towards the car with a frown plastered on her face. “What’s going on here?”

Lottie looked away from her phone to the little girl. “Oh, hey.”

“Why are you the one here to pick me up? Where is my nanny?” She asked, ignoring the greeting.

Lottie sighed with a slight shrug. “She didn’t want to come so I offered to.”

“That’s a lie. The nanny won’t choose to come. It’s either your forced her to stay back or she was busy.” Aurora defended.

Ricco alighted the car.

“Ricco,” Aurora called, going towards him. “Where is the nanny?”

“Oh, she had something important to take care of.” He sincerely answered.

“Ricco,” Lottie snarled, grabbing his attention. “Get back into the car no one asked for your contribution, you old man.”

“That’s not the best way to talk to an elder.” The little girl said.

“And neither is that the best way to talk to your aunt. Now get inside the car.” She snapped, opening the door to the back seat.

“Stop yelling at me.”

“I will yell at you all I want. Get in the car or else you are going to spend the night here.” Lottie hopped into the car angrily.

Aurora stared at her in shock.

What happened to the nice lady who tried to become friends with her? The little girl wondered as she entered the car.

Ricco turned on the ignition and drove off.

HOURS LATER

Ca-ssANO’S MANSION

Aurora stormed inside the kitchen in annoyance.

Evelyn and Paige were making dinner.

“Where is my nanny?” The kid asked.

Evelyn sighed and faced Paige who slowly shook her head with a shrug.

“I’m sure she’s on her way home. You don’t need to worry, dear.”

“I’m worried, okay? It’s 9:20 pm and my nanny isn’t back from wherever she went to. What if she’s in danger? What if…”

“Don’t think like that, Aurora. Miss Chase is not in danger. In fact,” She pulled out her phone. “I’m going to give her a call now.” She scrolled throu-ghher contact list and then paused.

“Let me guess, you don’t have her number.” The kid said, giving Evelyn a judgemental look.

“Uh…I’m sure Paige has it. They are friends after_”

“I don’t.” Paige muttered, cutting the woman off.

Aurora shook her head in disappointment. “Best colleagues of the year! Where is my dad, by the way? He should have her number, don’t you think?”

“Your father isn’t around. He left for work not quite long ago. I will ask Ricco.”

Aurora scoffed. “If you two don’t have her number, how will Ricco have it?”

“She has a point, Evelyn.” Paige whispered.

“You think I don’t know that already? I feel so ashamed of myself.” The woman murmured.

“Gosh!” The kid left the kitchen.

“Remind me to get Miss Chase’s number when she returns.” Evelyn said to Paige who nodded her head immediately.

ZODIAC CLUB**

“You should leave, Miss.” Jerry said calmly.

Diamond shot him a glare. “Why? Didn’t I pay for all the drinks I had?”

“You are completely wasted.”

“No, I’m not.”

“Yes, you are.”

“I said I’m not!”

He popped up two fingers in front of her face. “What is the number?”

Diamond squinted her eyes, looking at the fingers, intently. “Uhm…four.” She started laughing. “You see, I told you I’m not drunk.”

Jerry sighed, shaking his head. “Where is your phone?”

She frowned. “What do you need my phone for? Wait,” She dramatically gasped, holding her bag close to her chest. “Are you a thief?”

“No, I’m not. I need your phone so I can call a friend to come to get you.” He ruffled his hair. “You’ve been here for close to eight hours.”

“Shut up.” She snapped, grabbing the attention of those around the bar. “I don’t need anybody’s help. I can obviously go home by myself.” She stood up to her feet. “I was going to order one more bottle but I won’t. Do you know why…? Because you all have bad customer service. I hope I see your fuc-k ing boss and tell him to his damn face!”

“You should leave now, Miss. Before you splatter something that will get you into trouble.” Jerry stated.

She stuck out two of her middle fingers. “fuc-k you, bit-ch .” She staggered out of the club.

Jerry shook his head and sighed. “Will she be okay on her own?”

OUTSIDE ZODIAC CLUB**

“Boss, we are here.” Marcello announced, opening the backseat of the car for him.

Mikhail hopped down and buried his hands inside his pocket.

“I will be waiting here while you go in there and get the docu-ments from my office.”

Marcello bowed. “Okay. But are you not going to see the manager for a minute and see how_”

“And when did your opinion matter?” Mikhail rudely cut him off.

“I’m sorry, boss.”

“Scram.”

Marcello bowed once again and disappeared into the building, going throu-ghthe back door.

A few seconds later, Diamond stepped out of the building (throu-ghthe front door). She looked around with a wide smile on her face.

“Why does the world seem to be upside down?” She asked herself, narrowing her eyes and in that very moment, she caught sight of a handsome Greek god, leaning against his black car. He was scrolling throu-ghhis phone, paying less attention to the world. “Damn, who is that handsome man?” She straightened her dress and handbag, put her hair in order, and then made her way to him, stumbling with each step. “Hello, handsome!” She grinned like an idiot, grabbing his attention.

Mikhail looked up from his phone and frowned when he caught sight of her face.

His brows creased and he looked around before settling his gaze back on her.

“What are you doing here?” He darkly asked, putting his phone away.

She smiled. “Having fun. You look quite familiar, though. Do I know you?”

Mikhail clenched his fist. What was his daughter’s nanny doing in front of his club, drunk? Shouldn’t she be at home trying to put his princess to sleep?

“You reek of alcohol. Why the fuc-k are you here?” He snarled.

“Hey.” She glared at him. “You are not my boss mind the way you talk to me. I didn’t approach you so you could disrespect me. I came over so we could…” She smiled, leaning towards him. “have fun. When last did you have a good s-ex with a beautiful woman like me?” She wiggled her brows.

Mikhail pushed her away. “Don’t touch me.”

“Ah, playing ha-rd to get, huh?” She smirked. “Or is it because…” The smile on her face disappeared and she frowned. “I’m a product of ra-pe?”

Mikhail had no emotions on his face when she said that.

She su-cked in a de-ep breath and sat down on the ground. “Do you want to hear a story? A story of a girl whose name is Diamond chase. Oh wait, I am Diamond Chase.” She giggled and then stopped. “I am a bad daughter. A disgrace to my mother. I am the reminder of her plight.” She paused. “My mother was ra-ped at the age of nineteen and then she got pregnant. People mocked her, and laughed at her…everywhere she goes, she was ridiculed and treated unfairly. You know, maybe she should have gotten rid of the pregnancy. Maybe she should have dumped the baby in an orphanage…her life would have been something different if she had made those decisions. And I probably wouldn’t have been in existence or be anywhere around her.” She gulped, holding back the tears. “I was only four years old when I knew how I came into existence. Kids from my school would look at me and laugh. They would say; ‘Where is your daddy?’ ‘You don’t belong here.’ ‘Your mother hates you.’ ‘You are a product of ra-pe.’ The kids were so mean and…scary.” She started crying. ”I was bullied by kids, parents, and even teachers. But neither of those people’s words hurt me…However, the words of my mother hurt me more than a sharpened knife. She wouldn’t look at me, talk to me, feed me or care about me. I was like a stranger in this world. Every day she would point at me and say, ‘I hate you. Just die. I curse the day I gave birth to you. I wish I’d ab-orted you. I wish you never existed.’ They were hurtful words said to a four years old child.” Diamond bites her lower li-p, more tears trailing down her face. “I didn’t know what happiness was because I never had those feelings. While my mates celebrated Christmas, birthdays, summers, New Year…I was locked up in a basement with no food, water, or clothes. It was as if I was paying for the sins of my…” She hesitated. “father.” She stood up to her feet and stared at Mikhail. He was staring right back at her. She leaned over to him and whispered into his ears. “I’ve always wished for my mother’s death. But I have no right to wish for that.” She started laughing while crying and took a step back from him. “The scar in my heart can’t be healed and I don’t think I will ever find redemption.” She burped loudly and wiped the tears on her face, smiling. “It’s okay if you don’t want to fuc-k me, I get it. No one will want to fuc-k a girl with such an awful past. No one will even think of being with a girl whose father is a rapist. I guess that was the reason why Felix cheated on me with his best friend. I guess that’s why my boss never looked at me no matter how ha-rd I try. Ah, speaking of my boss.” She grinned. “He doesn’t know I have a huge crush on him. Ever since the day I laid eyes on him, I’ve wanted him to fuc-k me so hard. He is so hot and se-xy. I even imagined him fuc-k ing me while I m*sturbated.” She bites her lower li-p. “Although, you kinda look like him but nah, you can’t be him. You are way nicer and such a good listener.” She leaned on him once again and surprisingly, he didn’t push her away. “But regardless, it’s my boss I want.” She stayed quiet for a while. “I have a confession to make…” She paused. “I took the job because of him and not because of his kid. Shhh,” She placed her index finger over her li-p. “Don’t tell anyone.” She pulled away from him and sighed. “I should get going. It was nice meeting you, Mr. Handsome.” She winked and turned around. She took a few steps away from Mikhail and then stopped.

Mikhail didn’t say anything nor did he move an inch. He just stood there and watched her every move.

“I’m home.” She announced. “Phew, it was such a long day.” She dropped her bag aside and then lay on the cold ground. “Home sweet home.” She mumbled and gradually fell asleep, having a small smile on her face.

Marcello stepped out of the building and approached Mikhail.

“Here is the docu-ment, boss. The manager asked me to tell you about some things needed in the club. That’s literally why I delayed. I’m sorry.”

Mikhail didn’t say anything to him but was rather staring at something ahead.

Marcello trailed the eyes of his boss, looking in the direction his boss seem to be interested in and they fell upon a very familiar face. Aurora’s nanny was lying there on the ground, sleeping peacefully.

His eyes went wide. “What the hell?”

TBC.
