Ca-ssANO’S MANSION

AURORA’S BEDROOM**

“Rise and shine, baby girl!” A cheerful voice said waking the little girl out of her de-ep slumber.

Aurora opened her eyes to find her aunt staring at her with a wide smile on her face.

She yawned and looked around wondering if she was dreaming or living a reality.

“What’s going on here?” She asked after confirming that this wasn’t a dream.

“What do you mean by that? I’m here to wake my beautiful niece up for school, is that surprising?” Lottie raised a questioning brow.

“My nanny is the one who wakes me up for school and not you. Besides, you don’t like spending time with me.”

“Oh please, don’t say that. Of course, I love spending time with you. However, you seem to love spending more time with your nanny.”

“She is nice.”

“I am also nice.”

“It doesn’t seem like that to me.” Aurora shrugged getting out of the queen-size bed. “My nanny will be here any moment from now. You don’t have to worry about me, aunt.”

‘Does it look like I worry? I fuc-k ing want to get that bit-ch out of this house and have my way with Mikhail, okay?’ Lottie thought to herself.

“Can’t aunt do your nanny job for today?” She pouted at the little child, batting her lashes.

“That isn’t necessary. I don’t want to_”

“Are you up?” Diamond barged into the room. She took in the scene in front of her and frowned when her gaze fell upon Lottie. “What are you doing here?”

“That’s a dumb question to ask. This is my sister’s house and that kid standing over there,” She gestured at Aurora. “is my niece.”

“So? Did I ask for your biography? I only asked what you are doing in here. Did you miss your way or something?”

“Mind the way you talk to me. I keep warning you. I won’t be so nice next time.” She turned back to Aurora. “So baby girl, will Auntie take you to school?”

“Bu…but…”

“That’s my job.” Diamond said.

“Stop interrupting!” Lottie flared up, shooting daggers at the nanny. “In fact get out of the room until I’m done talking to my niece.”

Diamond crossed her arms over her chest and tilted her head to the side, her eyes laced on Lottie as she said her next words, “Kid, get into the bathroom and wait for me.”

“Okay, nanny!” Aurora quickly said and disappeared into the bathroom before Lottie could say anything to stop her from doing as her nanny have instructed her.

“I am not dragging your position as an Auntie to the kid but I won’t stand back and watch you try to take my job away from me. Respect yourself and avoid me.” Diamond walked past Lottie who suddenly grabbed her by the wrist, bringing her step to halt.

“I should avoid you?” Lottie chuckled. “Why should I? Do you think you are all terrifying? You should be the one afraid of me, you bit-ch .”

Diamond smirked. “Are you the scaring and terrifying one then?”

“What?”

“Give me one reason why I should be afraid of you?”

“I can make you lose your job in the twinkle of an eye if you keep up with this sh*tty attitude of yours.” She glowered.

Diamond started laughing, freeing her wrist from Lottie’s tight grip. “What are you? The boss’s wife? The next boss? God?” She scoffed. “Do I need to remind you that you are an unwanted guest?”

“Miss Chase!” Lottie yelled, fuming in anger.

“Did I press a bu-tton?” The nanny smiled with the side of her li-ps. “You don’t scare me.” She turned around and went inside the bathroom.

Lottie quickly left the room and went straight to hers. As soon as she shut the door behind her, she let out a scream that could pull down the whole building. But thank God, the house and rooms were soundproof.

She dug out her phone and dialed Aria’s number.

“Hello?” Aria answered.

“I need you. I’m fuc-k ing losing my mind.”

“Calm down, babe. What’s wrong?”

“That nanny is really getting out of control. She has no freaking respect for me. She even had the guts to challenge me, Aria. She challenged me.”

“Lottie_”

“Don’t tell me to return home because I’m not going to do that. You persuaded me not to make use of your evil plan and advised me to get into the good record of Diamond’s daughter. Well, I did, but guess what, the child doesn’t like me.”

“I’m sure she needs time to get to know you first.”

“Time? Did you just say she needs time?” Lottie laughed bitterly, pacing back and forth in the room. “I don’t have the time, girlfriend.”

“And do you think acting this way will get you what you want?”

“I don’t care! I want Mikhail. I fuc-k ing want him. I can’t live without him.” She cried.

“Are…you crying?” Aria queried, listening to Lottie’s shaky breathing.

“I’m frustrated, okay!? It’s been years and now Diamond is finally gone. This is my chance to have him but the closer we get, the farther it feels. He doesn’t even notice me, Aria. I feel like a damn ghost around him.”

“When are you ever going to know your worth, girlfriend? I don’t know what to say to you anymore. If I ask you to return home, you won’t listen. This man doesn’t love you, when are you going to see it and move on?”

“Never. Never. I’m not going to accept defeat again. If I can’t have Mikhail then no one else will. Including his daughter.”

“What do you mean?” Aria slowly asked.

Lottie stopped pacing and stared at her reflection in the mirror. She could see the anger, pain, and fear in her eyes.

She lost Mikhail once and she refuses to lose him again.

“I am ready to take out any obstacle that tries to stop me from getting Mikhail. And if that child is going to be a problem like her mother…?” Lottie smirked. “Then Mikhail should be ready to bury another family member.”

AURORA’S ROOM**

“I didn’t know you liked me this much.” The kid grinned.

“How do you mean?”

“You didn’t want auntie to take me to school.”

“So that’s why you think I like you?” Diamond knitted her brows.

“Ye…yes? Isn’t that right?”

“You should always ask questions before drawing your conclusions.”

“What does that mean?”

“When you get to school…ask your teacher.” Diamond winked and left the room.

“Can’t you tell me yourself?” Aurora snatched her schoolbag from the bed and rushed out of the room.

MIKHAIL’S OFFICE**

He took a large gulp of whiskey, gro-aning in anger and agitation.

Why was it taking him so long to catch that bastard?

It’s been five years and almost going to six and the idiot was still roaming about in the town of Mexico freely.

Marcello and Boaz stood in front of their boss waiting quietly for his orders.

“The spies we sent over to Mexico haven’t seen or heard anything?” He asked, drily.

“No, sir.” Marcello shook his head.

“I was thinking,” Boaz began. Mikhail gave him a ha-rd look, making the poor guy nervous.

“Speak.” He urged, darkly.

Boaz gulped slowly and continued, “I was thinking…what if Fernandez lied to us? What if Octavius is here in Las Vegas?”

“How possible can that be? We’ve lived here for five fuc-k ing years!” Mikhail uttered.

“Oh…yeah.” Boaz bites his lower li-p.

“You know what,” A knock on the door interrupted him. “Check who is at the door.”

Marcello bowed and walked towards the closed door. He twisted the doorknob and pulled it open.

“Miss…Lottie.” He murmured in a not-so-happy-to-see-her tone.

She took the hint but chose not to be affected by it. “Is your boss in?”

“He is busy, what do you want?”

“I need to speak to him real quick. It’s urgent.” She said.

“Come another time when he’s less busy.” Marcello was going to close the door when Lottie quickly added,

“It’s about Aurora.”

“Miss Aurora? Is something wrong with her?” Marcello asked worriedly.

“Will you let me in or keep throwing questions at me?”

“Hmm.” He stepped aside for her to walk in.

Mikhail frowned just as Lottie strolled inside.

“Who permitted you to let her in?” Mikhail growled at Marcello.

“I’m sorry, boss. But she said she has something to discuss with you about Miss Aurora.”

The frown on Mikhail’s face de-epened and he dated his gaze to Lottie.

“What happened to my daughter? Is she okay?”

“Yeah. Sure. She just left for school with her…nanny.”

“What do you want to talk to me about then?”

Lottie glance at Boaz and Marcello. “Can we speak privately, if you don’t mind?”

Mikhail hesitated before waving his hand in the air. Boaz and Marcello took the hint and left the office.

“Start talking and if you have nothing important to say, get out.” He said.

She straightened her dress and took a step forward. “Can…Can I seat?”

“Do you have nothing to say?” He glared.

“I promise, I do. I just…Fine I will stand and talk.” She sighed. “I have a complaint to make. Technically I am here on Diamond’s request to spend time with Aurora but,” She paused. “that isn’t working. Aurora is always spending time with her nanny. She doesn’t even know whether I exist or not.”

“So?”

“I want to fulfill Diamond’s wish, Mik…Mr. Ca-ssano.” She said.

“When did you start caring about Diamond’s requests and wishes? Last I remember you hated your sister to the core. You never cared about her. You even cut ties with her. So why do you suddenly care now?”

‘Because this is the only way I can have your attention.’ Lottie answered honestly in her head.

“Because…” She shrugged. “I’ve decided to move on from the past and I wish you will do the same.”

Mikhail stayed quiet.

“Anyway,” Lottie cleared her throat. “I want to spend quality time with my niece. I want to take her to school, bring her back home, a-ssist with her a-ssignments, and have fun with her. I want to do the things that Diamond and I failed to do when we were kids.”

“In other words?”

“I want you to fire the nanny.”

BFF’S APARTMENT**

“Should I…uhm…get you something to eat or drink?” Zara asked.

“We don’t have anything to eat.” Ayden whispered to his best friend’s ears.

“Really?”

“We haven’t made breakfast. Who visits someone at a time like this?” He rolled his eyes.

“Are you saying something?” Elodie asked, eyeing him in disgust.

“No. Of course not.” He mumbled.

“I thought as much. And as for you,” She faced Zara. “I don’t want to eat anything from this house.” She looked around. “Where is Diamond?”

Zara and Ayden exchanged glances.

“She…is not at home.” They answered in sync.

Elodie frowned looking up at them. “She is not at home? By this time of the day?”

“She’s very busy at work, ” Zara said.

“Is that the reason why she decided to push her relationship aside?” Elodie snapped.

“Huh?”

“Felix complained to me about Diamond’s lack of interest in the wedding. Why will she accept the proposal in the first place if she doesn’t care?”

“You are not going to understand, mother.” Zara said calmly.

“Don’t ever call me that again. I am not your mother.” Elodie scoffed. “And what is there not to understand, huh? I hope Diamond isn’t by any chance cheating on Felix because that will be the height of it.”

“Have you for once worried about Diamond as much as you worry about Felix?” Ayden said before he could stop himself.

“Excuse me?” Elodie narrowed her eyes, daring him to repeat his words for the second time.

Zara slowly shook her head toward her best friend, silently telling him not to say anything rude to the woman. She might be an annoying bit-ch but nothing changes the fact that she was still Diamond’s mother.

“I’m sorry.” He muttered, biting his inner cheek.

“You see, I don’t blame you at all for this rude behavior of yours. It’s your mother I blame for not taking a better watch on her son. I don’t even know if I should still refer to you as a boy. Idiot.” She stated, coming up to her feet. “You,” She pointed at Zara. “I want you to call Diamond right now and tell her of my arrival. Immediately.” She sauntered into the kitchen.

“Why the fuc-k is she going into the kitchen?” Zara gro-aned, glaring at the closed kitchen door as if it was the woman.

“Did you hear everything we just said to me?” Ayden asked in agitation, shooting daggers at the kitchen door as well.

“Ignore her, Ayden. You know how she is, Mrs. Perfect. I wonder how Diamond survived in her childhood days living with a woman like that.”

“Are you going to call Diamond for real?”

She shrugged, taking out her phone. “Do I have a choice? I just hope Diamond is ready to face her mother again after all these years.”

SCHOOL**

Aurora alighted the car and waved goodbye to her nanny and driver before rushing into the school building.

“Such a bubbly child.” Ricco commented with a smile on his face.

“Yeah…” Diamond agreed in a low voice. “Too bad I wasn’t like that as a kid.”

“What did you say?” Ricco turned to face her.

She smiled and shook her head. “Nothing. Let’s go home.”

“Yeah.” Ricco started the car and drove out of the school’s compound.

Diamond’s phone started ringing, she dug it out of her pocket and saw the caller ID. A big smile spread on her face as she answered the call.

“Hello, bit-ch .”

“Diamond,” Zara replied, not matching her best friend’s excited energy.

“Hey…are you okay?”

“You need to come home.”

“Home? Wait, are you at my workplace?”

“What? No. Do I even know your workplace address?”

“Ah, that’s true. What’s happening? Why do you want me over?”

“I think you should come to see it yourself. And be hurry up.” She hung up the call, leaving Diamond in a state of confusion.

“Uh…Ricco?”

“Yes, dear.”

“Can you drop me at the bus stop?”

“Why?”

“I just received a call. My friend asked me to come over and she doesn’t sound good on the phone. I fear something might be wrong.”

“Don’t worry I will_”

“No.” She cut him off. “I will go by myself. I don’t want to get you into trouble because I don’t know how long I will be there. Please understand.”

He nodded.“Okay. Did you inform the boss?” He asked.

“No. This was an unexpected call. Regardless, if I don’t return before the kid closes from school, please ask Paige to pick her up on my behalf. Please.”

Ricco hesitated. “Okay. I hope this won’t get you into trouble, Miss Chase.”

BFF’S APARTMENT**

Diamond barged into the house without even knocking. She was looking so worried and frightened.

The first person she saw in the living room was Ayden.

“Hey, bit-ch .” He got up from the couch and embraced her. “How are you?”

“I’m fine. Is anything the matter?” She asked, looking around. “Where is Zara?”

“She is in the kitchen.” He answered.

“ZARA, I’M HERE!” Diamond announced at the top of her voice.

The kitchen door opened and Zara walked out.

“Hello, baby girl.” She smiled. The two girls hug-ged. “How are you?”

“Uh…I was fine until you called me over like that. Did you miss me that much, huh? You sounded so sad on the phone and that got me worried. You had me thinking that Sean broke up with you or something.”

“Sean will never break up with me. We are ordained by the heavens and it’s only death that can keep us apart.” Zara stated.

“Gosh, I’m so jealous.” Diamond chuckled. “So, why…”

“If you were a little bit more like your friend maybe she will be the one jealous of you and not the other way round.” A familiar voice said from the staircase, grabbing the three friends’ attention.

Diamond’s chest became tight. Knots formed in her stomach almost making her puke out her guts. She slowly looked over to the staircase and her eyes wide-ned when she saw the woman she wished was dead. A daughter wishing for the death of her mother? That was the case for Diamond.

“Long time no see, prodigal daughter.” Elodie sneered.
