“Ahhh_”

The intruder quickly clasped her mouth closed with his palm.

Diamond did not waste time to make use of the closeness to her advantage.

She sunk her teeth into his palm over her mouth and he instantly withdrew himself from her.

“Bastard!” She pulled out the IV needle from the back of her hand, grabbed a pillow, and tried to hit the intruder but he caught hold of her hand.

“Animal.” She hissed and headbu-tted him in the face.

“Che diavolo? Fanculo!” [What the hell? fuc-k ] He gro-aned, staggering back a little as he let go of her hand.

Diamond frowned, staring at the man who was tending to his nose.

‘The voice sounds familiar.’ She thought.

“Bo_ Boss?” She called out in a stutter and turned the switch of the light on.

Indeed, it was her boss.

“Oh, no. Shit, I’m so sorry.”

“What’s your problem? Vuoi danneggiarmi il naso?” [Do you want to damage my nose?]

Diamond didn’t understand the Italian he spoke so she simply just said.

“Yes.”

“What?”

“Sorry, I didn’t understand what you meant.”

“Then you shouldn’t have answered at all. What the fuc-k ?” He hissed.

She closely stared at his face. Luckily, his nose and face were still looking so handsome and perfect.

He is a strong man and honestly, she won’t be surprised if it turns out to be that he is feigning to be hurt.

“I’m sorry.” She apologized again, biting her lower li-p, guiltily.

Mikhail’s gaze moved down to her hand which is now bleeding because of how she forcefully pulled out the IV needle.

“Why did you have to pull out the IV needle like that?” He scolded.

The nanny glanced down at her bleeding hand. She didn’t even notice it until now.

“Ouch, it hurts.” She whined.

“Of course, it will. What were you expecting?”

“I was only trying to defend myself. I thought you were sent here by Lottie to murder me.” She justified.

Mikhail balled his fist at the mention of the psychopath’s name.

He has never hated someone compared to how much he hates Lottie.

She disgusts him.

He ran the tip of his tongue over his li-ps and sat down on the chair beside the hospital bed.

“That was good.” He blurted out.

“What was good?”

He hesitated. “The way you defended yourself was amazing.”

Mikhail doesn’t remember the last time he praised someone for a job well done.

Diamond’s li-ps stretched into a small smile.

“Thank you. My stepdad taught me most of the defense skills I know today.” She bragged.

“Your stepdad_”

“Ah, that reminds you, have you met him?”

He shrugged, taking out his phone from the pocket of the black hoodie,

‘Oh, he wanted to take out his phone before and here I was thinking it was a knife. Tsk, stupid me.’ Diamond said in her head, mentally slapping herself.

He scrolled throu-ghhis phone for a while before raising his head to look at her.

“Bernardo will be here with us shortly. Do you feel_”

“Oh no. You…you…” She cut him off, staring at him as if he grew a second head.

“What is wrong? and why are you looking at me like that?” He asked.

“Bo… Boss, you… You are bleeding.” She demonstrated this by running the tip of her finger over her nose.

“What?” Mikhail stared at his reflection on the phone screen and gro-aned. “Oh, fuc-k .”

“I’m sorry, sir.” She apologized once again.

“Enough with the apology, it is starting to irritate me.” He took out a handkerchief and wipe the blood off.

“I have a strong head. I was even stunned that you didn’t start bleeding immediately after I headbu-tted you.” She mumbled.

“Are you happy?” He glared at her.

She quickly shook her head.

“Not at all.” She sighed. “I’m so_” Mikhail shot her a glare before she could finish the sentence. Diamond gulped nothing and corrected, “I’m not sorry.”

«STATION VICINITY»

Lottie joined her crew.

They were two boys, and she was the only girl in their midst. Not like it matters.

“How did it go?” One of the boys asked.

Lottie smirked and nodded once.

“That’s good to hear. Death should be the punishment for every betrayal.”

She chuckled.

“Exactly.”

Lottie surveyed the environment.

“We can’t burn down the station like this.”

The two boys nodded.

“The security is tight. We have to figure out another way.” The other guy suggested.

“I think I know what we can do.” She let her hair loose and wiped off imaginary dirt from her clothes. “I am going to go in.”

“What?” The two boys exclaimed.

“I’m sorry to say this but that’s a very dumb idea. How are you going to bypas-sthe security, huh?”

“Now that is where you two come in. Find a means to distract them, I have to go in there.” She said.

The boys exchanged glances and sighed in defeat.

“Fine.”

“Good. Julius must escape here tonight. I don’t want to wait any longer to kill that sl-utty bit-ch .”

The boys put on their black hoodies over their heads and walked away to distract the officers on duty.

One of the boys collected a stone from the ground and threw it across the road, grabbing one of the officers’ attention.

“Did you see that?” The officer asked his partner, squinting his eyes to see if there is any danger around.

Immediately, the two boys ran past the officers at full speed.

“Who are you!?”

The officers yelled and ran after them.

Lottie didn’t move an inch from her spot.

Another officer stepped out of the station and approached her.

The boys thought she was the one going inside but little did they know that she has other plans up her sleeve.

“Where is it?” He asked her, stretching his palm while looking around.

Lottie handed him a keg of fuel and a lighter.

“Do a good job and I will pay you handsomely for it, okay?” She told him.

The officer nodded, smiling, and walked away.

Lottie leaned back to the black minivan, smirking.

“I can’t wait for the fun.”

«HOSPITAL»

Bernardo reconnected the IV needle to Diamond’s hand and stopped the bleeding as well.

By the time he was done, he took a step back, staring between the two people in the room.

“Let me get this right,” He paused. “You,” He faced Mikhail. “came in here like a murderer and Miss Chase goes into her defense mood and shit went down, is that what you are telling me?”

“Yes.” Diamond nodded.

“Wait a minute, what are you even doing here?” He asked Mikhail.

“What sort of a stupid question is that?”

“I_”

“Are you done with what you were called here to do?” Mikhail cut the doctor off.

“Yes.”

“What are you doing here then? Shouldn’t you be on your way out?”

Bernardo rolled his eyes.

“I don’t care what you two do in here but please don’t do anything that will warrant me coming back here. I need to catch a little sleep. I’m so tired.” He yawned, displaying his fatigue.

“You can go,” Mikhail said.

“Thank you for helping me with it,” Diamond nodded her head at the IV connected to her hand.

“Hmm.”

Bernardo yawned once again and left the ward.

It was completely silent between the both of them.

Diamond kept stealing glances at her boss, thinking of what to say to start up a conversation because the awkward silence between the both of them was becoming so uncomfortable for her.

“Uhm,” She cleared up her throat. “Why did you come here by this time?”

Mikhail stared at her, not answering the question.

“So…uh…”

‘fuc-k , why am I this nervous? what is wrong with me?’ She said mentally.

“Are you okay?” Her boss asked her, dragging her out of her thought.

She batted her lashes, looking a little bit confused.

“Huh?”

“Your face… Why is it red?”

“Re… Red?” She cupped her face, pursing her li-ps.

‘Why is my face red?’

“Are you running a fever?” He asked.

“Fever? No. I’m_”

Her eyes immediately went wide as realization struck her.

‘Am I blus-hing? Shit. I’m blus-hing. Why? What for?’ Her thoughts were going wide, making her look stupid and confused.

“I don’t think you are okay.” Mikhail rose to his feet and placed his palm over her forehead.

Diamond’s heart picked up and it started beating very fast almost jumping out of her ribcage.

She could feel the bu-tterflies in her stomach,

‘What is wrong with me? Why do I feel this way?’

Mikhail leaned his face closer to hers in an attempt to detect what is wrong with her.

Her heart raced fast-er and what she could focus on was his heart-shaped li-ps.

He looked so se-xy, beautiful, hot, and perfect.

God definitely took his precious time to create a flawless man like him.

“Your face is getting more reddened but you don’t seem to be running a fever. I think I should call Bernar_”

She swatted his head away from her forehead and unnecessarily pushed him away.

“I’m fine.” She swallowed nothing, using her other hand that isn’t connected to the IV to fan herself.

Mikhail raised a questioning brow at her.

He is trying his hardest to act nice but she must really hate this side of him to be behaving this crazy way.

First, she bite his hand and then headbu-tted him in the face and he even had his nose bled although he doesn’t blame her for doing those two things, if anything, he liked how she defended and fought herself. Most girls would have been so frightened to react and will be waiting for their prince charming to come to save the day.

His daughter’s nanny wasn’t like that and that is one reason why he feels attracted to her.

Okay, scratch that.

He certainly doesn’t feel attracted to her. Never.

However, why does she have to push him like that?

If she wasn’t comfortable, she should have just demanded him to step back.

‘Why am I here again? Oh, I feel guilty for what happened to her. She would have been dead because of me and no, she doesn’t deserve that.’ He thought to himself and went to sit back down on the chair.

“You should go to bed.” He told her.

Diamond nodded and lay down on the bed, careful not to make the hand connected to the IV uncomfortable.

Mikhail stood up once again and went to turn off the light switch but Diamond abruptly sat upright.

“Can… Can you leave the light on?” She asked.

“Why? You will be able to fall asleep fast-er if the lights are turned off.”

“Well, I don’t feel so uncomfortable in the dark.” She muttered.

“I am here, you don’t have to be scared of anything.” He went back to sit down.

“I… Can you hold my hand then?”

“What?”

“If I feel alone,” She hesitated. “I might feel his presence. Please hold my hand or rather turn on the_”

He cut her off by holding her hand.

Diamond quickly calm down and smiled.

“Thank you.” She lay down once again on the bed.

‘Who is she afraid of? What is this traumatic past she is battling with?’

(“I don’t know how but I think Julius knew my stepdaughter, your wife, and Lottie when they were little.”) Octavius’s words played in his head.

“Is this the connection I’ve been looking for?” He thought out loud, grabbing the nanny’s attention.

“What did you say?”

“No, I wasn’t talking to you.”

“Oh. Okay.” She bites her lower li-p, feeling him squee-zeher hand from time to time. “Boss, you never told me why you came here by this time? You should be at home, sleeping.”

“And you will be here alone?” He scoffed.

“The guards are here to watch over me. I wouldn’t have been alone.”

“Are you asking me to leave?”

“Of course not. I’m glad you are even here with me.” She mumbled the last part but Mikhail heard her.

His li-ps stretched into a smile but disappeared just as it came.

“I am here because of the guilt.”

She looked at him.

“What?”

“Lottie stabbed you because she caught us having s-ex,”

“How… How did you know that?”

“I am not stupid. It was very easy to put two and two together. And I also know how obsessed that girl is with me. The mistake I made is letting her into my house and life again.”

“Did you date her in the past? But wait, aren’t you married to her sister?”

“Why are you asking me all these questions? We are not friends.”

“And yet, here you are, holding my hand and looking so worried about me.”

“I am not worried about you. Don’t give yourself false hope. I am here because_”

“_because you feel guilty about what happened to me. Yeah, yeah.” Diamond smirked. “Did I tell you that I heard how you refused to give up on me, you kept performing CPR on me for over thirty minutes until I started breathing?”

The nurse who asked after ‘her husband and daughter’ told her the whole gist and Diamond couldn’t stop smiling.

Has he always cared about her like this? She had wondered.

“Who told you?”

“You are not denying it, that means it is true. What, do you like me so much that you didn’t want me to die?” She wriggled her brows.

“Taunting me like this is never a good thing, Tesoro.” (Sweetheart). He spat the words out before he could refrain from calling her his sweetheart which SHE IS NOT.

“Te…Tesoro?” She repeated, pronouncing it wrongly. “What does that mean?”

“Nothing.”

“You are lying. It means something for…”

“Go to sleep.” He cut her off.

“But we haven’t finished talking.” She pouted.

“We have. Because I have nothing to say to you right now.”

She rolled her eyes.

“That reminds me,”

“Oh, fuc-k . Why do you like talking too much, huh? Doesn’t your mouth hurt?”

She stuck out her lower li-p, giving him doe eyes.

He paused.

“Just say whatever you want to. And hey, that will be the last question, okay?”

“Okay.” She smiled. “So, why did you come here dressed like this?”

“Because I didn’t want anyone to recognize me. Honestly, I thought you were already asleep because my initial plan was to come here and leave unnoticed.”

“I see.” She nodded, gazing back at the ceilings. “Thank God I wasn’t asleep. I was already feeling bad when you didn’t show up. I thought you didn’t care.”

Funny enough, he did.

He truly cared and he is doing everything to deny the feelings.

He is only here right now because he feels guilty for what happened and nothing more.

“Can you keep coming here like this?” She asked him.

“Why?”

She didn’t answer immediately.

“Because with you around,” She paused. “I feel safe.”

Mikhail subconsciously tightened his hold on her hand.

Why was his heart racing this fast?

Why does it sound so good to hear her say that?

What is wrong with him?

Was he feeling this way because they have both fuc-k ed?

Because most people feel attracted to someone when they get really intimate.

Could that be it?

Anyway, they won’t be having s-ex anymore.

He has finally found Octavius and doesn’t need her for anything anymore.

“Good night, Mikhail.” She said to him and falls asleep.

Mikhail’s literally stopped beating.

He could hear her soft breathing, indicating that she has truly fallen asleep.

How does she know his name?

And why does it feel so much better to finally hear his name after five years?

He had stopped everyone from calling him by his name because it reminded him of his Amore.

And whenever he hears his name, it will send a pang of guilt and remorse to him.

His name was the last thing his Amore called before she died.

But right now, hearing his name once again doesn’t sound as bad as he thought it would be.

He didn’t feel hurt, guilty, or sad.

Instead,

He felt at ease and happy.

Does that make any sense?

«STATION VICINITY»

The loud alarm kept blaring as everyone started rushing out of the police station.

????What is going on!?

????How is this possible?

????The prisoners. What about them?

Lottie smirked and pushed herself off the hood of the car.

“We are escaping throu-ghthe back door so get the car ready, is that clear?”

“Yes.” Both boys answered, entering the car.

Lottie walked past the officers, everywhere was in chaos and no one even noticed her.

She entered the police station that was burning and made her way to the police she was working in hand with.

“Where is he?”

“Follow me.”

He led her down a narrow dark path until they arrived at their destination.

Smoke was everywhere and you could barely see throu-gh.

However, Lottie came prepared.

She was wearing gla-sses to protect her eyes and her body was drenched in water.

The officer took out a bunch of keys and rushed toward one of the doors.

“Hurry up. We don’t have much time.” She said.

“I know. They are going to call for backups soon.”

“Do I look worried about that? I don’t want to get fried in here, that’s what I’m concerned about.”

“What about the other prisoners? Are we going to leave them here to die?”

Lottie surveyed the building. Approximately, there should be more them a hundred jails in this building.

“I am one of them, I don’t give a fuc-k about what happens to the others.”

“They are going to die.” He said.

“Stop being a softie. I hate men who aren’t brave and weak.” She snarled, snatching the key from the man. “Are you sure this is where Julius is?”

“Mm-hmm.”

She inse-rted the key and unlocked the door.

Julius and three other prisoners ran out.

“What is going on?” One of the prisoners asked, looking around.

They all started coughing as the fire increases, destroying things.

They could hear the wail and cries of some prisoners, the fire must have caught up with them.

“This is the only thing you could think of to get me out of here?” Julius gave out a sly and creepy smile.

“Let’s get out of here. I don’t want to die like this.” She turned around and was about to walk away when the officer said,

“Shouldn’t we help others? We caused the fire. Besides, you a-ssured me that nothing is going to happen to them.”

“Aren’t they criminals?”

“So?”

“Isn’t death a better punishment for them? Come to think of it, are you stupid?”

“Excuse me?”

“I told you they are not going to get hurt and what, you believed me?”

Julius chuckled darkly. “We don’t have time for this.”

The fire was beginning to approach the part where they are.

The three prisoners that ran out of the room with Julius were about to run away but Lottie snatched the gun on the waistband of the officers and shot the three of them.

“What the_” The officer got cut off as a bullet penetrated his chest.

“Hmm, you are such a bada-ss.” Julius praised.

“Let’s get out of here.” She dropped the gun on top of the officer’s lifeless body and walked away.

••••

Julius and Lottie stepped out of the station, using the backdoor.

A car was already waiting for them outside.

The station building was burning and there is no way anybody is going to get out of there alive if the fire ambulance don’t get there on time.

“You just killed a hundred humans in there.”

Lottie rolled her eyes,

“But I like it.” He smirked. “You are just like me, pretty.”

“Don’t flirt with me. It’s disgusting.” She entered the car.

Julius chuckled darkly and sniffed the air, breathing out heavily.

“Free at last.”

TBC.
