( THE SECRET HE IS KEEPING )

Julius entered the car and they drove away, putting the burning police station behind them.

Thirty minutes later, they arrived at Lottie’s hideout.

They all got out of the car and went inside.

Lottie took off the black leather jacket she was wearing and dropped it on the couch.

She let out a de-ep sigh and went to get a drink from the mini refrigerator.

“I’m so tired.” One of the boys said, yawning tiredly.

“Of course, you are always tired.” The other one said, rolling his eyes.

Julius smirked, leaning against the wall, and crossed his arms over his broad chest.

“You haven’t introduced me to your mates, baby girl.” He raised a questioning brow.

Lottie opened a can of beer and took a large gulp, letting out a de-ep breath.

“Denise and Joel.” She blankly stated.

“I am Denise,” The one who claimed to be tired said, smiling.

“Joel.” The other one added.

“Oh. I see.”

“Nice to meet you.” Denise and Joel said at the same time.

Julius chuckled darkly, shaking his head.

“I don’t think it will be nice to meet with someone like me.”

“Huh?” The boys looked kinda confused.

“Can you two give us some privacy? I will like to talk to your boss in private.”

“Okay. Sure.” They went into a room, shut the door closed, and left Julius and Lottie alone in the tiny living room.

The man looked around, examining the house.

“I didn’t know you stay in a place like this. Are you poor?”

“Don’t make me laugh, Julius. This is obviously my hideout.”

“I can’t believe you tried to kill someone under the roof of the Italian mafia. You are one brave girl I know.”

“Oh, please.” She scoffed, taking another gulp of beer.

“How are we going to operate?” He asked after a moment of silence.

“We will talk about it tomorrow morning.” She opened the lid of the laptop seated on the desk in front of her and started scrolling.

“What are you doing?” He asked, coming to stand behind her.

“I want to see how the bit-ch is faring.” She grinned in a psychotic way, cli-cking on the link.

Her face dropped and her mouth hung open when she saw the scene displayed on the laptop screen.

“Wait, isn’t that… the Italian mafia?” Julius leaned forward to take a better view of the faces.

Lottie balled her fist, crumpling the can of beer in her hand and in the process, spilling the drink but she didn’t care.

Her eyes glowed in anger as she watched Mikhail looking after the nanny who was asleep while holding her hand.

Like what the fuc-k ?

Why was he there by her side?

Does he have feelings for the nanny?

‘Why does he always find ways to hurt me?’ She thought.

Hot tears streamed down Lottie’s face as she kept looking, wishing she could be in the nanny’s position.

“Are you crying?” Julius laughed.

Lottie ignored him.

“You know, crying won’t fix or change anything.”

“Death will.” She said in a raspy and mean voice.

“Whose death?”

“The sl-utty bit-ch !” She snapped. “I swear I’m going to kill her. I will kill her. Even if it is the last thing I do. I will do it.”

“You are determined and anger has taken the better part of you. I like this about you, baby girl. You remind me so much of…” He smiled with the side of his li-p. “…me.”

Lottie turned her head to look at him. Her eyes were reddened in rage and the tears also added to it.

“I want her dead.” She said.

“She will, dear. But we need a plan first.”

“Fine. As long as we think of a plan real quick, I will try to remain cool.” She stood up and went to lie on the couch, sobbing quietly.

Julius sat down in front of the laptop and started watching the live video, tilting his head to the side.

“You’ve grown to be such a beautiful girl. I can’t wait to have a taste of you and then eliminate you.”

NEXT MORNING????

«Ca-ssANO’S MANSION ★ AURORA’S ROOM»

“Good morning, Miss Aurora.” Paige greeted cheerfully as she strolled inside the little girl’s room.

“Good morning, Paige.”

“You are not yet dressed up for school.” The young maid pointed out, knitting her brows.

“I don’t want to go.”

“What? Why not?”

“Because I want to be with my nanny. She is alone in the hospital and might feel lonely, I don’t want her to feel that way.” She huffed.

“Miss Aurora, your nanny is not alone. She has her friends and family with her.”

“No. I want to go and meet my nanny.” She insisted, glaring.

The door opened and Mikhail walked in.

Paige immediately bowed her head, putting her hands behind her back.

“Good morning, boss.” She greeted with a little bit of fear hinted in her voice.

He only gave a firm nod and waved his hand as if shooing a fly for her to leave.

She took the hint and left the room as fast as possible.

“Daddy,” Aurora got out of bed and rushed to hug him.

“How are you, princess?” He asked, squ-atting to her level.

“I’m fine. Daddy, can I ask you for a favor?”

“If it is about you not going to school then don’t ask.”

“How did you know?” She dramatically let out a gasp. “Did you eavesdrop?”

“Each room in this house is soundproof, honey. There is no way I would have heard you from outside.”

“So… How did you know I was going to ask that?” She frowned.

He pinched her cheek gently.

“I know you well enough.”

She stepped back from him, folding her tiny arms over her chest.

“But daddy, can I please go to the hospital? At least for today. Please.” She pleaded.

“Princess, you need to go to school. You’ve skipped school for two days now. And if you keep skipping school, how are you going to cope?”

“I am smart. I can definitely cover up for the days I missed, trust me. Learning is a piece of cake for me. Just let me go to my nanny and_”

“No.” He cut her off sternly. “You are going to school and that’s final.”

“Dad_”

“Don’t daddy me. If you really care about your nanny then you will do as I say.”

“And if I don’t?” She challenged, glaring ha-rd at him.

Mikhail stood upright, dusting off imaginary dirt from his black suit.

“Non spingermi, principessa.” [Don’t push me, princess]. He warned. “Paige is going to come back here by the time I step out. She will help you get ready for school. I will be waiting for you downstairs.” He stepped towards the door and twisted it open, “Do not keep me waiting.” He left afterward.

Aurora started whining and dropped to the bed.

A few minutes later, Paige walked in.

“Let’s get you ready, Miss Aurora.”

«MILHAIL’S OFFICE»

“It’s been weeks since Miss Chase got hospitalized but Lottie hasn’t shown up.” Marcello said.

Mikhail took a long drag of cigarette and puffed out rings of smoke in the air.

He stood by the window, staring at the clear blue swimming pool feet below.

“So?”

Marcello hesitated. “I don’t think she knows Miss Chase is still alive.”

“How long have you been working for me, Marcello?”

“Uhm, seventeen years.” He answered.

“Seventeen years,” Mikhail repeated, slightly turning to face his right-hand man. “Yet, you think so low.”

“Sir?” That was the last thing Marcello expected to hear from his boss.

“Do you expect her to suddenly show up and kill the nanny?”

“Uhm… Should… Should I answer that?”

“Don’t. Because you will only say something stupid. And what makes you think that she hasn’t shown up?”

“I…” Marcello’s voice trailed off. He didn’t know what to say at that point.

Mikhail faced the window again but this time around, he was gazing at the sky.

He remembered the conversation he had with one of the guards.

≈FLASHBACK≈

Mikhail approached the ward with his disguise on but got stopped by one of the guards.

“Who are you? What are you doing here?”

“Shush.” Mikhail took off the hoodie he had over his head.

The guards’ eyes wide-ned in shock.

“Bo… Boss?”

“Come here,” He led them away from the door. “I will be going in there to check up on her. No one must know about my visitation, is that clear?”

They instantly bowed their heads.

“Yes, sir.”

“Good.”

He made to leave when one of them called out,

“Boss,”

“What is it?”

“There is something you should know.”

He raised a questioning brow, stuffing his hands into his pan-ts pocket.

“Speak.”

“Someone sent flowers to Miss Aurora this morning.”

“Someone? Who?”

“I don’t know. It was from an anonymous sender.” The guard said.

“An anonymous sender…” Mikhail smirked, tilting his head to the side. “You’ve finally shown up.”

≈END OF FLASHBACK≈

It was obvious that Lottie was the anonymous sender.

She must be a fool to think he wouldn’t realize that.

As soon as the nanny fell asleep, he subtly examined the flowers and indeed, there was a small camera recording the ward.

He decided not to take it away because he have other plans up his sleeve.

She wants to watch what happens in the ward, right? He will certainly give her a show to keep her awake.

There was a knock on the door.

“I will get it, boss.” Marcello said and goes to open the door.

It was Paige.

“Is the boss in?” She asked in a low voice.

“Yes. What do you want?”

“Tell him that Miss Aurora is ready for school and she is waiting downstairs.”

“Okay.”

Marcello closed the door and stepped away from it.

“Miss Aurora is dressed up for school, boss.” He announced.

Mikhail dropped the almost finished cigarette on the ashtray set on the black desk.

“Let’s go.”

«GROCERY Sto-re»

“Thank you for coming over, Felix.” Rosa said with a smile on her face.

“You don’t have to thank me. I’m very happy to be here with you this morning.” He told her.

She blus-hed but hid her reddened face with her long hair.

They walked down the aisle, picking up the necessary things she needs.

Suddenly, they bumped into someone.

“Kerry,” Rosa gasped, looking surprised to see him here.

“Good morning.” He smiled.

“Good morning,” She responded. “What are you doing here?”

“Is this a private sto-re?” He asked a sarcastic question, giving her a pointed look.

She chuckled and nodded.

“I deserve that. I asked a very dumb question. Sorry.”

“Hi, Jeremiah.” Felix gave out a small wave.

Jerry let out a tight-li-pped smile.

“Hey, Felix.” He moved his gaze back to Rosalie. “See you around.”

“Are you already leaving?”

“Uhm, no. I still want to get some other things. Although I’m sort of confused with what to get.”

“Really? You can join us then.” She offered.

“I don’t think that’s necessary.” Felix cut in.

“Why not?” Jerry blurted out before he could stop himself.

Felix did not say anything.

“It’s fine, Felix. Let him join us but that is if he wants.” She said.

Jerry smirked and shrugged.

“Well, since you insist.” He winked.

Rosa giggled and they both started walking away, leaving Felix behind.

“What do you want to get? I am at your service, Kerry.” She said, looking more excited than when it was only Felix and her.

«IN THE CAR»

“Princess, are you going to keep ignoring me?” Mikhail asked for the tenth time.

She scoffed, refusing to look at him or say a word to him.

“Princess_”

“Don’t talk to me because I don’t have anything to say to you. I am going to school now, you should be happy.”

“Yes, I am happy.”

“Mm-hmm.” She hummed.

“And that’s because I want the best for you, love.” He said.

“Sure. Can you stop talking to me now?” She rolled her eyes.

The car parked in front of the school building.

Marcello quickly alighted the car and turned around to open the back seat for Mikhail.

Mikhail came down and just as Marcello was about to go open the door for Aurora, Mikhail stopped him.

“I will get it myself,” He said and went open the door. “There you go, princess.”

Aurora came down from the car.

“I will take you to your nanny when you close from school, okay?”

Her eyes lit up as soon as she heard him say that.

“You will?”

“Yes, baby.”

“You can’t go back to your word, daddy.”

“I won’t.”

“Yay.” She jumped excitedly. “I love you, daddy.”

“I love you more. Now, run along. I don’t want you to get late for cla-sses.” He smiled.

She waved for him to come down to her level.

Mikhail did as she wants without hesitating.

Aurora placed a kis-s on his both cheeks, grinning widely.

“I love you so much, daddy. You are the best.” She gave him a thumbs-up and ran into the building.

“Let’s go to the club.” Mikhail entered the car and so did Marcello before the driver drove away from the school.

A feminine figure wearing black attire stepped out of a hiding spot.

She stared at the car until it disappeared from sight and then slowly, she moved her gaze to the school building.

“How can I make you love me, Mikhail?” She said, tilting her head to the side as she clenched her fist, not taking her eyes off the school building.

«IN THE WARD»

Diamond had a bring smile on her face.

She hasn’t said a word to her best friends that have been here for over twenty minutes.

When she woke up this morning, he was already gone.

She didn’t like how he left without telling her. She even had to convince herself that it wasn’t all a dream.

The door opened and Sean walked in.

“Good morning, lovelies.” He said, going straight to Zara who was already on her feet.

“Babe,” She pouted.

“Sweetheart,” He kis-sed her on the li-p. “How was your night?”

“Great. I dreamt of you.”

“Tell me, what was I doing in your dream?” He wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her close.

“You were fuc-k ing me against a wall.” She mo-an-ed lowly, biting her bottom li-p, seductively.

“Oh, fuc-k . You’ve just put ideas in my head, baby.” He smashed his li-ps on hers and they kis-s rou-ghly and hungrily this time around.

Zara mo-an-ed into the kis-s, encircling her arms around his neck, and de-epened the kis-s.

“Get a room, you two. I didn’t sign up for a live pørn show.” Ayden hissed.

“I thought you are here to see the patient and not fuc-k your girlfriend’s brains with two other people in the room.” Diamond said, rolling her eyes.

The couple broke apart.

“They are jealous,” Zara mumbled.

“I know, darling.”

He strode to the hospital bed.

“How do you feel now?” He asked Diamond.

“Nauseous.” She answered.

“Why?”

“After witnessing that between you and your girlfriend, I start to feel nauseous. Any remedy?”

“Get yourself a boyfriend,” Sean said and everyone in the room burst into laughter.

“Haha, very funny.” She scoffed.

“I can see you are feeling better this morning.” He observed.

“Can I get discharged, then?” She asked, hope glistening in her eyes.

Sean shook his head. “Not yet.”

“Ugh. When am I going to leave? I will fall sick if I remain here.” She whined.

“You will be fine.” Sean headed for the door.

“Guys, I will be right back. I have a slight headache.” Zara said and rushed after Sean.

“Such a liar,” Ayden stated.

Diamond laughed.

“She thinks we don’t know.” She added, smiling.

A short silence fell between the both of them until Auden spoke up.

“Is there something you aren’t telling us?”

She frowned.

“What do you mean?”

“You seem to be in a good mood since morning. What happened last night?”

“Wha… What? What do expect to happen?”

“I don’t know. You tell me. Wait, hope you didn’t fuc-k one of the guards.”

“That’s very insulting.”

“Oh. I’m sorry. Well, gist me if you don’t want me making a-ssumptions.”

She sighed, shrugging her shoulders.

“My boss came over, that’s all.”

“Your boss came over?” Diamond nodded her head. “Wow. Finally. But by what time?”

She bites her lower li-p, “At midnight.”

“Midnight? Oh, please. Tell me you didn’t fuc-k _”

“Must everything in your head be about fuc-k ?” She cut him off.

“Well, you can’t blame me.”

“Stupid.”

“Why did he come?”

“He said he felt guilty for what happened to me. Ah, I asked him to hold my hand while I fell asleep.”

“Hmm? And he did?”

“Yup.”

“Shocking.”

“I know, right?” She smiled, dreamily.

“Is that why you have been happy and blus-hing really hard?” Ayden questioned.

“Am I blus-hing?” She asked.

“Your face is as red as a tomato.”

“What!”

The door flung open and Rhodes walked in.

“My love,” He smiled.

“Dad, you finally came over.” She returned his smile with one of her own.

“I’m sorry for not coming yesterday. I had something to take care of. How do you feel now?”

“Superb.” She replied.

“I will leave you both,” Ayden said and left the ward.

Rhodes sat down on the chair and reached out to hold his stepdaughter’s hand.

“You are looking more beautiful.”

“Don’t flatter me, dad.” She chuckled.

“I’m serious right now.”

He kept quiet.

Diamond observed him carefully,

“What is going on? You don’t look so good.”

“I’m fine.”

“You can lie to everybody but definitely not me. Tell me what is wrong.” She urged.

Rhodes hesitated, looking so guilty over something.

He squee-zed her hand gently and then said in a mutter,

“There is a secret I have been keeping away from you and your mother.”

TBC.
