Chapter 153&154

•••••
(MEMORY LOSS?)

Just as she opened her eyes, she shut it closed immediately.

It was too bright in there and that almost blinded her.

She couldn’t hear anything aside from the beeping sound.

She couldn’t move her hands, legs, or the upper part of her body.

She felt glued to whatever she was laying on.

The beeping sound was becoming frustrating and agonizing, making her want to scream at the top of her lungs.

‘Where am I?’

‘Why can I hear beeping?’

‘Is it an alarm? Did I set an alarm before going to bed?’

She thought to herself as she tried to blink her eyes open but they felt so heavy, and when she finally opened them, she let out a muffled gro-an and squee-zed them shut again.

‘Why is it so bright?’ She wondered.

She can’t remember much and that was kinda making it more difficult for her to comprehend and figure out where she’s at.

She counted from one to three in her head and slowly pry her eyes open once again, squinting and trying to blink away the blur from them.

When she finally gets them to focus all she can see is white and hear that damn beeping.

‘What the hell is going on?’

She scrunched up her face, confused and still dazed and once her eyes started to focus more, she saw the monitors next to the bed she was in and then she look down to see the white sheets.

‘This is a hospital bed. Why am I in a hospital bed? What are all these wires? What the fuc-k is going on? Am I dead?’ She almost started panicking but the dead state she was in couldn’t make her move her body.

Diamond tried to talk but all she heard was… Silence.

‘Oh, my God. I can’t talk. I’ve gone dumb.’ Her thoughts were going in a circle and her emotions were everywhere.

There was not a single soul in the room.

It felt like she was in another world of void. But the realization that she could be in a hospital gave her a little tiny bit of hope that she was still in the human world and very much alive.

She tried once again to move her legs at least but they felt so numb and her body was not any better. The only thing she could move at that point was her eyes and fingers.

‘What is going on with me? Why am I like this?’ She wishes she could ask someone the question but hell, she can’t fuc-k ing say a word and sadly, there was nobody in the room.

This is crazy.

The sound of the door opening caught her attention. She just remained paralyzed on the bed, staring at the plain white ceilings.

She heard footsteps and then followed by voices as they approached her.

“Ah, I’m so full.” Ayden gro-aned.

“Of course, you are. What do you expect after stealing from my food, Paige’s, and Aurora’s? In fact, I wish I can hit you straight on the_”

“Argh!” Aurora screamed, grabbing everyone’s attention.

“What is it?” Paige asked as they all rushed to her where she remained standing beside Diamond’s bed.

“Why did you_ Ah!” Zara screamed as she caught sight of her best friend whose eyes were wide open.

“What the fuc-k is going on? Why are you two screami…” The rest of the words got stuck in his throat as he blinked repeatedly, hoping this was not a dream. “Diamond?” Ayden called out. “Are you really awake?”

Zara started crying and immediately rushed out of the room.

“Miss Chase,” Paige smiled, her eyes becoming gla-ssy from unshed tears.

Aurora suddenly started crying, placing her head on Diamond’s motionless body.

••••

Zara stepped out of the ward, crying profusely while searching around for Sean.

She finally saw him coming out of a patient ward with Dr. Bernardo.

She ran towards them, breathing shakily.

“Sean,” She called in a husky voice, grabbing their attention.

They both turned to look at her.

“Zara, are you alright? Why are you crying?” He asked worriedly, holding her shoulders.

“Dia… Diamond…” She stuttered.

“Diamond? Is she okay?” Dr. Bernardo asked in concern.

“She… She is awake.” She told them.

“She is?” They asked at the same time, looking so surprised.

Zara frantically nodded her head, sniffling.

“Let’s go.”

•••••

A few minutes later, Zara walked in alongside Sean and Dr. Bernardo.

Sean had a big smile on his face when he saw that Zara was actually telling the truth and wasn’t imagining things.

Diamond opened her mouth to talk again but no words left her li-ps.

“Doc, why can’t she talk? She has been trying to say something but can’t.” Ayden explained, holding his best friend’s hand.

Bernardo stepped closer and glanced over at her.

“Miss Chase,” He called out. “Are you alright?”

“She can’t talk.” Aurora cried, raising her head from Diamond’s body. “Has my nanny gone dumb? What is wrong with her?”

“Calm down, Aurora. I’m going to check what is wrong with her, okay?”

“Please hurry up.”

“Miss Chase, I am going to ask you some questions. Blink twice if it is a yes and blink once if it is a no, understood?”

She blinked twice.

“Good.” He paused. “Do you feel alright?’

Diamond blinked twice.

“Do you feel any pain?”

She blinked once.

“Does your head hurts?”

She blinked once again.

“Are you sure it doesn’t hurt anywhere?”

She blinked twice.

Bernardo smiled and pulled back.

“She is okay. All she needs right now is rest.”

“Is that why she can’t talk?” Paige questioned.

“She is still going throu-ghthe effect of being in a coma for a long period. Trust me, she will be fine.”

“If you say so,” Ayden muttered.

“Ask her if she recognizes us.” Aurora blurted out.

“Of course she does. Why won’t she?” Zara answered in tears.

“But I want to hear her say she remembers me.” Aurora pouted.

“Fine. I will ask her dear.” He leaned toward Diamond. “Do you know who you are?”

She blinked twice.

“Is your name Diamond?”

She blinked twice again.

“Do you know who Aurora, Paige, Ayden, and Zara is?” He asked.

Diamond did not react for a few seconds and then she blinked…

Once.

DIEGO’S HOUSE**

Layla was scrolling throu-ghher phone while eating chin-chin.

There was a knock on the door, disrupting her quiet moment.

She gro-aned in frustration.

“Daria,” She called out but there was no response.

The doorbell rang this time around.

“Daria,” She called again, but still no response. “Ugh, where is this girl?” She muttered, standing up to her feet.

She dropped her phone on the couch and went to get the door, thinking it was Felix or probably Rosalie.

She pulled the door open and her eyes wide-ned in astonishment.

Her mouth hung open and her body stiffened. It was as if she was seeing a ghost.

Was she daydreaming?

Diego stood in front of her with his hands stuffed in his pan-ts pocket, staring at her.

She glanced over at him from head to toe for the fifth time, blinking her eyes rapidly, her breathing becoming hasty.

“Hi,” He said in a low voice.

“Di… Diego?” She stammered.

“Are you not going to allow me inside?”

“Huh? No… I mean, yes. Why not?” She pulled the door wider and he walked in while she closed the door behind them.

They silently walked to the living room and sat down far from each other.

Diego heaved out a de-ep breath, sniffing the air. It felt so good to be home. fuc-k , how much he misses his home and… Wife.

“I can’t believe my eyes,” She said in a mutter. “are you truly the one here or am I imagining things?”

He gave out a soft chuckle, shrugging. “Hmm. How have you been?”

She sniffled back the tears, shaking her head. “I’ve not been good. I…”

Diego’s eyes moved to the plate of chin-chin on the table and then he gave her the ‘are you sure you have not been good?’ look.

Layla saw what he was staring at and bite her lower li-p.

“I’ve been feeling hungry lately. To be honest, I have not been doing great without you but I don’t want to starve myself and in the process punish an innocent soul.”

He knitted his brows. “What do you mean by that? You know what, don’t answer that. It is none of my business.” He cleared his throat. “John said you have good news for me, it’s actually why I came.”

She gulped nothing, fiddling with her fingers.

“Ye_ Yes. But first I need to know if you are willing to forgive me.” She said.

“Forgive you?” He scoffed. “I am not here to have a word with you on your unfaithfulness and deceit. I don’t give a bloody fuc-k about you, is that clear? Just tell me what this ‘good news’ is so I can get the fuc-k away from here and you.”

He didn’t mean any of the words he just said. He only wants to hurt her as much as she has hurt him.

Tears streamed down Layla’s eyes but she quickly wiped them off.

“I am pregnant.” She let out, lowering her gaze.

It was silence. So silent that you could hear their loud heartbeats.

She raised her head up to look at his expression and all she saw was a shock.

He glanced down at her small baby bump, gulping his saliva.

How come he didn’t notice the baby bump when he got here?

How could he be so stupid?

Wait a minute…

He lifted his gaze from her stomach to her eyes. “Who is the father of the baby? Me? Or Felix?”

It was as if they shove a piercing knife into her heart when he said that.

However, she deserved it.

She blink away the tears forming in her eyes and sighed.

“It is yours.”

“How can I be so sure?” He asked.

“We can go for a paternity test. But I swear the baby is yours.”

“How…” He shook his head. “I don’t believe you.”

“I am 4 weeks gone. Today makes it so. We can go for a paternity test when it becomes 7 weeks.”

Diego rubbed his palms over his face and gazed at her stomach again, his eyes welling with tears.

He has always wanted to be a father. It was something he has prayed and hoped for.

He got up and went to sit beside Layla.

“Is it really mine?” He asked again.

She nodded her head. “I promise. You have every reason not to believe me but I swear it is yours.”

“Can I… Can I touch it?” He questioned.

Layla quickly nodded her head without thinking twice.

“Please yes.”

Diego hesitantly placed his large palm over the baby bump as tears rolled down his face.

STATION★ VISIT ROOM**

Julius’s laughter filled the room.

Lottie sat opposite him, glaring hard.

Was he taking her for a joke or what?

“What’s funny?” She queried.

He cleared his throat as he stopped laughing. “Don’t find what you just said funny? Am I the only one who thinks it is?”

“Apparently, yes. Because I meant what I just said.”

“Lottie, Lottie, Lottie.” He smirked. “Still sa-ssy, I see. Give me one reason why I should strike a deal with you.”

“Because it is something that will benefit you and me.”

“Shoot, I’m listening.”

“I am going to help you get out of here but in return, you will kill Diamond.”

“Diamond? Your sister is still alive? I thought I shot her_”

“I am not talking about my dead sister but someone else. And you know who she is.”

“Diamond…” He repeated, smirking. “Octavius’s stepdaughter, right?”

“Yup.”

He burst out laughing again, putting his legs on the table.

“You came across her?”

“Unfortunately.”

“What did she do that you want me to kill her?” He asked.

“She took what belongs to me.”

“Really? What is it? Money? Car? Fame? What did she take from you?”

“Mikhail.”

“Is that the name of your car? Or a pet?”

“Stop joking, Julius. I am not in the mood for stupid games.” She snapped.

“Mikhail, isn’t that the name of your late sister’s husband? The Italian mafia?”

She nodded. “Yes.”

“He is the same reason why you killed his wife and now you want to kill someone else because of him again? When are you going to give her, baby girl?”

“I will never give up on Mikhail.” She snarled. “He belongs to me.”

“I see…”

“So what do you say? Are you going to strike the deal with me?”

“No.” He simply answered, leaning back into his chair.

“No?” She repeated, scrunching her face. “Why not?”

“Because I love it here in jail. The people here respect and adore me. Aside from the fuc-k ing officers, of course.”

“How about this,” She cleared her throat. “revenge.”

“What?”

“Do you know Octavius is the main reason why you ended up here in prison?”

“What are you talking about?”

She smirked, crossing her leg over the other. “He knew you made plans to go after his daughter…he figure out a way to stop you and he did just that.”

“What? That can’t be true. Octavius would never betray me.”

“You think? He betrayed Mikhail once, remember? How precious are you to him that he can’t betray you as well?” She raised a brow, studying Julius carefully.

He was de-ep in thought, clenching and unclenching his fist, his nose flaring in rage.

She has gotten throu-ghhim and she felt so proud of herself.

“Have your revenge against him by killing his only stepdaughter. You benefit and I also benefit. It’s a win-win deal, Julius. Think about it. You will get out of this shithole and continue to live your life freely.” She sniffed the air. “Revenge and freedom. Can you smell it too?”

•••

Lottie stepped out of the police station, putting back on the dark sungla-sses with a smirk plastered on her face.

She unlocked her air, opened the door, and hopped in.

(“You get me out of here asap. I am going to make that bastard regret ever betraying me.”)

Julius’s angry words replayed in her head. They were like music to her ears.

(“Deal?”)

(“Deal.”)

She started laughing, clutching the steering wheel.

“Your death is right around the corner, Diamond. How are you going to feel seeing your ugly past in front of you?” She ruffled her hair and continued laughing as she drove away from the station.

•••••

Lottie sat down underneath a slide, smashing a bug with a stone. It was already dead but she didn’t stop the a-ssault.

It was pouring heavily and late at night.

The little girl didn’t give a fuc-k and neither was she afraid.

A man in a black rainy coat’s hoodie approached her, crouching down to her level.

Lottie raised her head to look at him, frowning a little when she caught sight of his face.

“Who are you?” She asked.

“My name is Julius, baby girl. What is yours?”

She didn’t answer immediately.

“Lottie,”

“Hmm, Lottie. Do you know the meaning of your name?”

“Uhm, not really. Do you?”

He smiled and nodded. “Little and womanly.”

“That is what it means?” She frowned.

“Yes.”

“Eish, I hate it.” She scoffed.

Julius chuckled. “What are you doing here all by yourself? Where are your parents?”

She shrugged. “They don’t care about me. I bet they haven’t noticed I’m not at home.”

“Really? Why will your parents not care about you?”

“Because they don’t love me. They only love and care for my sister. I hate them. I hate humans.” She spat coldly.

“Me too.”

She gave him a surprised look. “You too? I thought you are going to find me weird or something.”

“Nah. I hate humans too.”

“Do you hate yourself as well? Because I hate myself.” She said.

He shrugged. “Tell me, baby girl. Do you want to come with me?”

“Come with you to where?”

“Somewhere far. Far away from humans that you hate so much. Trust me, you will love it.” He grinned like a maniac, stretching his we-t palm toward her.

“Will I really love it?” She questioned.

“I promise.”

She hesitated but slowly, she placed her tiny palm on his and the look on his face grew darker.

“Let’s have some fun, baby girl.”

There was a boom of thunderstorms and lightning.

Neither of them flinched from it. They just look into each other’s eyes, grinning.

TBC.
