ARIA’S HOUSE**

“What does she mean by this?” She asked out loud, dialing Lottie’s number immediately.

The line was ringing until it was answered.

“Hi, best friend.” Lottie said from the other line.

“What was the meaning of that text message? And where the fuc-k are you?”

“How many questions, Aria? Are you this curious about me, huh?”

“What is going on?”

“Firstly, I am not going to tell you where I currently am. Why? Because I don’t trust you anymore. You prove yourself to be one of those idiots who don’t give a fuc-k about me. And secondly, the text message is exactly what I feel right now. You betrayed my trust in you, Aria. I won’t forgive you so easily.” Lottie said.

“Are you crazy?” Aria scoffed. “I betrayed your trust? Can you listen to yourself? Like hell, I almost died because of you!”

“So? Is it a crime for a best friend to die for her other best friend? Answer me.”

“What?”

“We’ve been friends for a very fuc-k ing long time. You claim to love and care for me but what the hell? You told Mikhail where I was without thinking twice.”

Aria stood up from the couch and started pacing back and forth.

“I didn’t just tell him where you were, Lottie. You seem to have watched the whole thing since you ran off immediately after they came to search for you. Besides, didn’t you see how he was strangling me? He threatened to kill me until I tell him about your whereabouts. What do you expect me to do? Keep shut and die?”

“As I said, is there anything wrong with a friend dying for a friend?” Lottie questioned.

“I can not die for you, Lottie. If that is what you are saying. I have a lot ahead of me, you hear?”

It was silent,

“You have nothing ahead of you, best friend. Don’t forget, I know you too well.”

“You know nothing about me.” Aria snarled.

Lottie started laughing but suddenly stopped laughing just as she started.

“Alright then, if that is what you think.”

“Are you going to kill me too? I mean, you literally threatened to kill me from the text message you sent to me. Were you just bluffing or did you really mean it?”

“Aria, since you can’t die for me, how about I kill you?”

“What did you say?”

“That answered your question, right?”

“What?”

“See you soon, honey. Very, very, very soon.” The call got disconnected.

“Hello? Lottie, are you there? Hello?”

There was no response.

“Arrrgh!” Aria screamed, dropping her phone on the couch and tugging at her hair. “She just threatened to kill me. My best friend wants to kill me.” She threw her hands in the air. “I can’t believe I have been friends with a delusional monster.” She started laughing but the laughter turned into loud cries.

HOSPITAL★PARKING LOT**

“Mrs. Evelyn,” Bernardo called as he approached the woman.

“Dr. Bernardo, hi.”

“Hi. Wait, what are you doing here?”

“I came to check up on Miss Chase. Is she fine?”

“Yeah…did you come alone?”

She shook her head. “No. I came with Miss Aurora.”

“Miss Aurora?” He repeated, surprised.

“Yes.”

“Does your boss know you were bringing his daughter along to the hospital?”

“Actually, he doesn’t but_”

He cut her off.

“What are you thinking, Evelyn? Bringing Aurora here without her father’s consent? What? That could get you into trouble and you know it.”

She sighed. “Believe me, I know this is wrong and could get me into a whole lot of trouble but you can’t blame me.”

“How do you mean?”

“The little girl is worried sick about her nanny. She won’t stop crying until someone brings her to her nanny. I was afraid that she would fall sick if nothing is done.” She said.

“But still,” Bernardo let out a de-ep breath, running his fingers throu-ghhis hair. “This is a bad idea, honestly.”

“Just take us to the nanny, please. And oh,” She paused. “I’m sorry for calling you out here like this. It is very unprofessional and wrong.”

He waved her off. “It’s okay. Where is the little girl?”

Evelyn opened the car door of the backseat and Aurora stepped out, having a sad pout on her face.

“How are you, little girl?” Bernardo asked, crouching to her level.

“I’m not fine. Where is my nanny?”

“I will take you to her now, okay? But you can’t appear in her presence looking like this, you know.”

She frowned. “What do you mean?”

“Put a smile on your face, Aurora.” He demanded.

She hesitated before giving out a smile that didn’t reach her eyes.

“Like this?”

“Uh…, not really. But it is better than frowning. Come with me.”

DIEGO’S HOUSE

GARDEN**

“Back to reality,” Rosa snapped her fingers in front of Layla’s eyes.

Layla jerked a little and a small smile formed on her face.

“Oh, Rosalie. You are awake.”

“Yeah…” Rosa yawned and sat down beside Layla. “Thanks for letting me sleep in one of the rooms.”

“Nah, you don’t have to thank me. You’ve done a lot for my best friend, I should be the one thanking you.”

“And what did I do for Felix that I didn’t know about? Speaking of Felix, where is he? I didn’t see him around when I came downstairs.”

“Felix went to get some groceries. He will be back soon.”

“Oh. Okay.” She cleared her throat. “So tell me, what did I do for Felix?”

Layla hesitated.

“A lot. You fixed him, Rosalie_”

“Rosa will be fine.”

“Okay. Anyway, Felix was a total jerk who doesn’t give a damn about the people that loved him.”

“Yeah. I know about that.”

“About the first meeting,” Layla began, looking at Rosa. “I’m sorry for the way I treated and spoke to you. I was wrong.”

“Hey, you apologized to me in the hospital, remember? You don’t have to keep apologizing, you know. And besides, I was wrong too.”

Layla sighed and lowered her gaze.

“Do you know I had real feelings for Felix?”

“Yup.”

Layla raised her head and gave Rosa a very surprised look.

“You knew?”

“Mm-hmm. You were so obvious. I am even surprised that Felix didn’t notice.”

“Or maybe he did but was just too selfish and dumb to reciprocate the feelings. I was willing to give up everything for his sake. I was foolishly in love with him that I didn’t care about anybody or anything. I put my marriage in the line and I didn’t care.” She paused. “It was either Felix or no one else. But you know, it’s just so funny that right now, my heart belongs to another.”

“Your husband?”

“Yes. He is a perfect gentleman. Handsome, se-xy, gorgeous, nice, amazing…ah,” She let out a breath. “why did it take me so long to notice all of his magical attributes?” A tear rolled down her face. “I love him, Rosa. I love Diego so much and I can’t believe I have to lose him first to see how much he really matters to me. Indeed, you will only know the worth of less important things when you lose it.” She sniffled. “Oh, my God. I am sorry. I must be boring you.”

“No, it’s fine.” Rosa smiled. “I am glad you confided in me to say all this. It must have taken you a while to finally open up to someone else who isn’t Felix.”

“Yeah, you are actually right.”

Layla glanced down at her stomach and ran her palm over it, smiling.

“When you asked me if I was okay in the hospital..?”

“Yes?”

“Do you remember what my answer was?”

“You said your emotions were on a rollercoaster.”

“You still remember, I’m honored.” They both laughed. “When I found out that I was pregnant,” She paused. “I was scared.”

Rosa frowned. “Why?”

“Because the first question that came into my mind was; Who is the father of my baby? Was it Felix?” She smiled. “But when I heard that I was three weeks gone, I knew for sure that the baby didn’t being to Felix but my husband and I became happy. Diego has always wanted a child. He fancied being called daddy. And then I became sad because he wasn’t there to hear the good news. He still isn’t and I feel so bad. It is my fault. I don’t blame him for leaving. And I also won’t blame him if he decides not to forgive me.” She stared at Rosa. “But I wish he would forgive me. I wish he will…” She started crying, lowering her head again.

“Hey,” Rosa wrapped her arms around Layla’s shoulder and pulled her to herself. “Please don’t cry.”

“I miss him so much.” She sobbed.

“I know. Believe me, I understand how you feel right now.”

“Have you ever lost a loved one? Not because they died but because they left…have you?” She asked, pulling away from the embrace and staring once again at Rosa’s face.

“Um…” Rosa cleared her throat and started fiddling with her fingers. “Um…”

“You don’t have to say it if you don’t feel comfortable talking about it.”

“I’m sorry.”

“You don’t have to apologize.” Layla sniffled and wiped off the tears on her face, standing up from the bench. “Let’s go inside. Do you want to eat anything?”

Rosalie likewise stood up. “Well..” She got interrupted by the buzzing of her phone. She stared at the caller ID.

Kerry.

“Please excuse me.”

“Okay. Meet me inside.” Layla said and walked away after getting a confirmation nod from the lady.

“Hello?” Rosa picked up the call.

“Hey, Rosa. What’s up?”

“I’m cool. Is anything the matter?”

“Are you busy?”

She looked around. “Not really. Why do you ask?”

“Can we meet?”

“What?”

“Can we meet?” He repeated.

“Why?”

“I will like to take you out on a date. Just as a friend, I swear.” He said.

“Um…well, you see…”

“Please don’t turn me down. I beg of you. I’m already on my way to your house. See ya!” And then he hung up the call.

“Wait, Ker…” The line was already disconnected. “Shit.” She stormed back inside the house to get her handbag and give some reasonable explanation to Layla as to why she had to leave so unexpectedly.

HOSPITAL**

Bernardo, Evelyn, and Aurora entered the VIP ward.

Zara and Ayden were there.

“Who are you?” Evelyn asked, narrowing her eyes at the both of them.

Aurora ran to Zara and embraced her.

“Zara,” She called out,

“Hey, Aurora. How are you?” Zara asked, smiling.

“I’m..” She looked up, breaking the hug. “I would be lying if I say I’m fine.” She said.

“Then you don’t have to lie. I will understand.”

“You are an amazing person,” Aurora noted.

Zara grinned widely. “Guess what?”

“What?”

“You said those exact words to me when we first met.”

“Oh, yeah. I remember. Who are you?” She asked when her gaze fell upon Ayden who haven’t let a word out.

“Hi. I’m Ayden, your nanny’s number-one best friend.” He winked.

“Shut up. I am Diamond’s number best friend. It is not up for a debate.” Zara said throu-ghgritted teeth.

Aurora giggled. “And here I was thinking I am my nanny’s number best friend.”

They all laughed for the first time since they heard the news about Diamond’s condition.

Evelyn stood by the door alongside Bernardo. She had a warm smile on her face.

Zara’s gaze came upon her. “Hi. You must be…”

“…Evelyn.” Ayden completed the sentence.

“Ah, I see Miss Chase told you about me already.”

“Yes, she did. Hope you don’t mind?”

“Of course not. But wait, I hope we told you good things about me.” She said jokingly.

“Actually…she only told us facts. What do you think?”

Evelyn smiled. “She told you good things then.”

“A doctor will come over to check on the patient,” Bernardo said, grabbing everyone’s attention in the room. “I will take my leave now.”

“Thank you, Dr. Bernardo.” Evelyn said once again.

“You are welcome.” He leaned closer and whispered to her ears. “I just hope that bringing Aurora here won’t get you into trouble.”

“I hope so too. However, I am prepared for whatever punishment I get. Because I don’t regret bringing her here.”

“I will need to tap from your courage.”

They chuckled.

“Alright then. Take your time, okay?”

“Okay.”

He turned around and left the room.

“Please seat.” Ayden offered the chair he was sitting down on earlier to the old lady.

“You don’t have to.” She politely refused.

“I insist.”

“Thank you.” She sat down and then glanced at the nanny. “How is she?”

“She is fine,” Zara answered.

Aurora reached out to hold her nanny’s hand, and the smile on her face varnished.

“Why is she like this?” She asked no one in particular. “Why is she not opening her eyes?”

“Aurora, your nanny needs rest and that’s exactly what she’s getting. That’s why she isn’t opening her eyes.” Zara said, trying to calm the little girl down.

“I don’t believe you. You are saying this so I wouldn’t get worried.” She began to cry again.

“Oh, child. You promised not to cry again.” Evelyn stated.

“I’m sorry but I can’t hold it in anymore. I miss my nanny.” She said in tears, grasping Diamond’s hand tight.

“Zara is right, Aurora.” Ayden said. “Diamond is only sleeping. She will wake up soon, trust me.”

“But…but…what are all these wires on her body? How long has she been sleeping?”

The door opened and Sean walked in, holding a chart in his hand.

“Hi, kiddo.” He smiled.

“What is wrong with my nanny?” She asked him.

“Nothing serious, okay? She will be fine.”

“Is she sleeping or dead?” Little Aurora suddenly asked, surprising everyone in the process.

“Jesus Christ. She is not dead.” Ayden said. “She will not die, in Jesus name.”

“Stop overreacting, Ayden. The kid is just worried and curious at the same time.” Zara rolled her eyes.

”Your nanny is only unconscious but will be up soon.” Sean a-ssured.

Aurora let go of Diamond’s hand and approached Sean.

“Can you come down to my level?” She innocently asked.

“Yeah, sure.” He knelt in front of her.

In a flash, she grabbed his white coat and pulled him close to her face.

Everyone in the room’s eyes went wide including Sean’s.

He quickly put his hand in the air as if in surrender.

“If anything happens to my nanny, I’m going to sue this hospital, you hear me?”

“Yes, ma’am.”

”Don’t dare me. I can be so crazy.” She let go of his white coat and went back to hold Diamond’s hand.

“Nanny, please wake up soon. I miss you so much.”

“Did…did you see what just happened?” Ayden whispered to Zara.

“I did. She looked like the little version of Diamond.” She said, not taking her eyes off the little girl.

“How many months did Diamond look after this child? Like fuc-k , her craziness has rubbed off on the kid.”

Zara dramatically shook her head. “This is serious.”

Sean checked everything out to see if they were working perfectly well.

After he was done, he took a glance look at Ayden and Zara and then left the room.

“Zara, can we talk?” Ayden asked.

“If you are going to talk about him, then no.” She said.

“Are you still_”

There was a knock on the door, disrupting Ayden’s next words. The door opened and Mikhail entered.

Evelyn quickly stood up and bowed her head.

“Bo…Boss,” She stuttered.

Aurora looked up at her daddy and glared.

“Why are you here?”

Mikhail ignored Evelyn and Diamond’s best friends and then stepped close to his daughter.

“I’m sorry for not coming back home on time. I had to take care of something real quick.” He said.

“But you didn’t come back as you promised. And please don’t be mad at Evelyn, she brou-ght me here because I wouldn’t stop crying.”

“I thought you promised me not to cry.”

”I thought you promised that you will bring me to my nanny.”

“Fair enough. I’m sorry.”

“Ahem, hi.” Zara said from behind, grabbing the man’s attention.

He finally noticed them.

Mikhail looked at the two best friends, having an expressionless look on his face.

“And you are_”

“They are Miss…” Evelyn began but Mikhail rudely cut her off.

“I wasn’t talking to you.”

”I’m sorry, sir.” She bowed.

“Uh, I am Ayden and she is,” He pointed at Zara. “Zara. We are Diamond’s best friends.”

“I guess you are Diamond’s boss,” Zara added.

“Obviously.” He said to Zara’s last sentence.

There was tension in the air.

Everyone felt so uncomfortable in the room aside from Mikhail who was the main cause of the tension and Aurora who hasn’t taken her eyes off her nanny.

“I will be taking my leave now…”

“I think that’s a good idea.” Zara blurted out before she could stop herself. “Oh shit, that wasn’t supposed to come out like that. I’m sorry.”

Mikhail did not answer her. He turned his gaze to Evelyn.

“Bring my daughter home before 6, is that clear?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Oggi hai superato il limite, spero che tu lo sappia?” (You crossed the line today, hope you know that?)

“Mi dispiace.” (I’m sorry, sir)

“What did he say?” Ayden murmured in Zara’s ear.

“How am I supposed to know?”

“fuc-k . This is why they say; Always pay attention to your Latin teacher.”

“No, they never said that.” Zara disagreed. “What they said was; pay attention to your teacher.”

“Yeah, whatever.” Ayden said, brushing her off.

Mikhail stuffed his hands inside his pan-ts pocket.

“Princess, daddy will be leaving first.”

She nodded. “Okay.”

Mikhail gave Diamond’s friends one last glance and then left the room.

PARKING LOT**

Mikhail got to his G-wagon car.

Marcello was standing right beside it.

“Boss,” He bowed his head and opened the backseat of the car.

Mikhail got closer but did not get into the car.

“Where are the guards?”

“They are on their way, sir. I already instructed three guards to come over and guide the ward.” He said.

“Good.” He attempted to enter the car when Marcello said,

“If you don’t mind me asking, sir…” Mikhail raised a questioning brow at him, giving him the go-ahead look. “Do you think Lottie heard your conversation with Miss Aria?”

“If she didn’t hear, she wouldn’t have run away.”

“Why then did you let them know that Miss Chase is still alive?”

“For a hunter to catch his prey, he must set up a trap or lay an ambush for it.” He smirked dangerously. “And that was exactly what I did. I gave Lottie a reason not to hide. Soon she will come over to the hospital to finish what she started.”
