ARIA’S HOUSE**

“I am going to ask you for the last time, where the fuc-k is Lottie?” He bellowed in a very cold voice.

Aria gulped audibly, trying to pull his hand from her neck.

Her legs dangled in the air and her head was pressed firmly against the wall.

His men stood behind him, surveying her house quietly.

Lottie might be a murderer but she is also her best friend and only family in the whole world.

“It…It is all your fault!” She croaked out.

“What did you just say?” Mikhail asked, narrowing his gaze.

“It…It is your fault…that…that Lottie became this way.”

He let go of her neck and she dropped to the floor with a loud thud, coughing.

“How the hell is it my fault?”

She continued coughing, tears rolling down her face as she rubbed the bruises on her neck.

“She…became this way because of the stupid love she has for you.” She said, coming up to her feet. “You could have loved her. You should have chosen her. Why didn’t you?”

“I choose to love whoever I fuc-k ing want. Why should I choose a bit-ch like Lottie?”

“A bit-ch ?” She repeated. “So she wasn’t a bit-ch when you approached her and offered to be a friend, is that what you are saying?” She snapped.

“Mind the_” Marcello began but his boss stopped him, raising a hand in the air, his gaze never leaving the lady.

“Don’t stop her. Let her keep talking.” He stated.

Aria cleared her throat, seeming more confident than earlier.

“While I was away Lottie had no friends. She was always getting into problems with her parents, sisters, and cla-ssmates. I was the only one who could tolerate and understand her. But when I left, she became completely alone.” She paused. “Until you came into her life. You made her feel loved, happy, and cared for. When other people weren’t there, you were there for her. The attention and kindness you showed her made her fall in love with you. She even introduced you to her sister and what did you do?” Aria shook her head. “You chose Diamond over her. I blame you for who my best friend has become.” She started crying.

“Do you know the one thing I regret the most?” He asked but she did not say anything. “Showing kindness to a psychopath.”

★FLASHBACK★

A young girl with brunette hair sat on a huge branch, gripping the wings of a harmless bu-tterfly.

She had a smirk on her face and was obviously enjoying what she was doing.

She heard footsteps from behind which made her stop torturing the bu-tterfly and let go of it but the poor insect was too weak to fly away.

“Who are you?” She asked the boy that got to where she remained seated on the branch.

He looked around and then settled his gaze on her.

“Are you talking to me?” He raised a single brow at her.

“Who else is here, huh?” she rolled her eyes. “Wait, aren’t you the new student?”

He nodded. “Yes.”

“What are you doing here?”

He shrugged. “I was looking for a quiet place to spend my lunch break but somehow ended up here. What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be playing with your friends?”

“I love staying in a quiet place away from everyone. And I don’t have friends because I hate humans aside from Aria, of course.”

“Aria?”

“Ah, you don’t know Aria. She is my best friend. The only human I like.” She smiled.

“Oh.”

“By the way, what is your name?”

“Mikhail.” He answered. “What about you?”

“Lottie,”

“Hi, Lottie. Can I seat with you?”

She hesitated. “Sure.” She adjusted creating a spot for him.

“Thank you.” He sat down beside her and then caught sight of the almost lifeless bu-tterfly on the ground. “Oh no, what happened to her?” He picked up the bu-tterfly and place it on his palm.

Lottie shrugged. “I don’t…know. How do you know it’s a she?”

“I love bu-tterflies.” He simply answered.

“Really?” He nodded his head. “How old are you?”

“Ten.”

“I am Eight.”

It was silence between the both of them.

“Can we be friends?” He asked, breaking the ice.

“You want to be my friend?”

“Yes.”

“Aside from Aria, no one has ever wanted to be my friend.” She said in a mutter.

“Well, I want to.”

“But I hate humans…”

“How about you figure out a way to like me just as you like Aria?” He paused, waiting for her reply, and then added, “Who knows? You might even like me more than you like Aria.”

★END OF FLASHBACK★

“How would I have known that the little kindness I showed a girl will come back to haunt me?”

“You should never have approached her in the first place.”

“I was a kid of ten years old. I just moved to the hometown with my family. I had no friends at all. When I saw her all by herself excluded from others, I thought she was like me who is struggling to mingle with other kids but little did I know that she was a sick girl who didn’t give a fuc-k about her family.”

“Do not talk I’ll about Lottie. Don’t.” Aria snarled, more tears trailing down her face. “So tell me, do you regret it?”

He hesitated. “No. I don’t regret going to meet her that day because if it wasn’t because of her, I would never have met Diamond, the love of my life.” He said.

Aria let out a de-ep breath. “She has completely lost her mind. She is not the friend I once knew. Why?”

“Why what?”

“Why did you fuc-k your daughter’s nanny?”

Mikhail’s guards including Marcello immediately lowered their heads, taking a step back.

“Is that why she did what she did?” He asked.

Aria gulped and nodded her head.

“Is she really pissed off and would stop at nothing until she has you.”

“And that is impossible. I am one person she will never have. So what? Is she going to go about and murder whoever’s hole I stuck my dic-k in? Will she likewise kill you if I fuc-k you too?” He growled.

Aria gulped again, biting her inner cheek.

“Where is she?” He asked again. Aria stayed quiet. “You know, I can send my men in there to search everywhere for her and there is nothing you can do about it. However, I am choosing not to disrespect your privacy because of old times’ sake. Don’t let me do something you had regret.” He warned.

Aria looked up at him.

“Please don’t kill her. Yes, she was very wrong to have killed a person but you know she’s sick mentally. Please, Mik_”

“Don’t call my name.” He rudely cut her off. “Why are you pleading for her life? Is it better than the life she almost took?”

“Almost? Wait a minute, the nanny isn’t dead?”

“I am not here to have this long conversation with you, Aria. Where the hell is Lottie?”

Aria stayed quiet for a while before pointing upstairs.

Mikhail nodded his head and Marcello immediately took the hint, he took two men with him and went upstairs to get Lottie.

RHODES’S MANSION**

Rhodes storms inside the house and goes directly to the bedroom where he found his dear wife, sleeping.

“Elodie!” He roared, snapping her out of the land of wonderland.

She flinched, peeling her eyes open, and then looked around until her gaze settled on her husband.

A frown clouded her face immediately.

“What was that for?” She questioned, rubbing her eyes. “Do you need to unnecessarily yell my name like that to announce your arrival?”

Rhodes tightened his fist, shooting daggers at her.

“Is there something you need to tell me?” He asked, trying to maintain a calm tone.

Elodie sat upright on the bed, raising a single eyebrow.

“What are you talking about?”

“Elodie, don’t try to play smart with me.” He said throu-ghgritted teeth, taking a step towards the bed. “Is there something you want to confess?”

“What?” She stood up from the bed. “Are you crazy? What do you mean by that?”

“ELODIE!”

She flinched again, backing away from him.

“What the hell, Rhodes? Can you stop screaming my name like that? If you have something to say then say it.”

“Are you not going to talk?” He squinted.

“Talk what?” She appeared to be genuinely confused.

Rhodes dug out his phone from his pocket, goes throu-ghthe gallery, and then showed a particular photo of a guy to her.

“Does this face look familiar to you?” He queried, holding his phone to her face.

Elodie’s eyes instantly went wide and she swallowed nothing.

“How…who…” She stammered. “I don’t know…who…who this is.” She denied, looking away.

Rhodes smirked, anger visible in his eyes.

“Is that so?”

“Who…who is he?” She asked, feigning ignorance.

“Argh!” He screamed, smashing his phone on the floor. “Don’t fuc-k ing make me lose my mind, Elodie. You are not going to like the outcome, trust me.”

“Are…Are you threatening me?” She forced herself to ask.

He unexpectedly grabbed her by the shoulder, peering de-eply into her eyes.

“How dare you send a boy to stalk me?” He glowered.

“I…I…” She was so scared. His grip on her shoulder was beginning to hurt and he don’t seem to care. “Rhodes, you…you are hurting me.”

“I don’t give a fuc-k . Answer my question!” He barked.

“I said I don’t know who this boy is!” She shouted at his face, struggling to pull away from his tight grip. “Let go of me, Rhodes. Let go.”

“Are you going to keep denying it?” He let go of her shoulder and suddenly slapped her ha-rd on the face.

Elodie let out a yelp and fell on the bed.

She stared at him in utmost shock, holding her cheek where he had just hit her.

What just happened? She wondered.

“Do you think I’m joking with you? Are you not going to start talking?” He bellowed.

“Did…” She paused, tears rolling down her face. “Did you hit me because I asked a boy to watch your every move?”

“Oh, so you’ve finally confessed, huh?” He began to take off his suit jacket and then rolled up the sleeve of his shirt, glaring ha-rd at his wife.

Elodie watched his every move. “What are you doing?”

“What does it look like I am doing?” He fired back, loosening the necktie. “You disrespected me, Elodie. You should never have done that shit with me.”

“So what are you going to do now? Hit me?” She questioned.

“Yes. I am so pissed off at you. You crossed the line. I even thought it was Mikhail tailing me not knowing it was my fuc-k ing beloved wife.”

“You were keeping a lot of secrets from me, Rhodes. What do you have me do?”

“And you? Are you not keeping some secrets from me? Why didn’t I decide to dig throu-ghyour past to find the answers I’m curious about, huh?”

He was going to climb the bed when Elodie’s phone started ringing, putting his movement to a halt.

They both stared at the device, a frown plastering their faces.

The ringing stopped and shortly started again.

HOSPITAL**

“Has she picked up the call?” Ayden asked.

Zara shook her head. “No. Should I try it again?”

“One last time.”

“Okay.” She dialed Elodie’s number once again. “I can’t believe I’m reaching out to a woman like her. I would have simply called Mr. Rhodes’s line directly.”

“Well, too bad, his number isn’t connecting.”

Zara was almost giving up when the call got answered.

“Hello?” Elodie’s shaky voice filled the other line.

“Mrs. Elodie?”

“Zara, right?”

“Yes, this is she.”

“What do you want? Did Diamond ask you to reach me or what?”

“Well,” Zara hesitated for a while. “I have been trying to reach Mr. Rhodes but his number is not connecting.”

“Is that why you called me?” The woman growled. “If that’s why I will have to hang up no_”

“No, wait.”

“Speak up, young lady. I do not have the whole time in the world.”

“There is something you and Mr. Rhodes need to know. Is about Diamond.”

“What is it? Is she getting married to another man or what?”

“I wish that was the case…”

“What?”

Zara cleared her throat, preparing herself to drop the explosive device.

“Diamond got hurt in some way and uhm, she is in a coma.”

“What? Diamond is in a coma?” Elodie gasped.

There was ruffling in the other line.

Zara waited patiently until she heard a de-ep masculine voice that belonged to Diamond’s stepfather.

“What did you just say, Zara?” He asked.

“Sir?”

“REPEAT WHAT YOU SAID.” He rumbled, startling Zara in the process. “Where is Diamond? What happened to her?”

“Diamond is in a coma. She_”

The call got disconnected.

“Hello? Mr. Rhodes? Hello?” She let out a de-ep sigh and pulled her phone away from her ear.

“What happened?” Ayden asked, keenly.

“I don’t know. Mr. Rhodes just hung up the call on me and I must say, he sounded so pissed off and different.” She said, sitting on the chair beside Ayden. “What do you think is going to happen now?”

He shrugged. “I wish I was a seer but fuc-k ing hell, I’m not.”

Ca-ssANO’S MANSION**

“Miss Aurora, please open the door.” Paige pleaded.

Evelyn sauntered to her. “Is she still crying?”

“Yes.”

“Step away from the door.”

Paige did as she was told without hesitating.

Evelyn knocked softly on the door.

“Dear?”

“Where is daddy?” Aurora cried from inside.

“Your daddy will be home soon.”

“You are lying. He must have gone already and left me behind. He promised to take me to her after I eat finish. He lied and deceived me.” She cried har-der .

“Baby, your daddy would never lie to you, trust me. You know what,” She paused. “I will take you to see your nanny right now.”

Abruptly, the door pulled open, revealing the little girl.

Her eyes were red and swollen.

“You will take me to my nanny?” She asked, sniffling.

“Yes. If you stop crying.” Evelyn stated.

Aurora quickly wiped her tears off. “I’m not crying again. Let’s go.”

RHODES’S MANSION**

Rhodes wore back on his suit jacket, grabbed his car keys, and dialed Derek’s number on Elodie’s phone.

It rang for a while but was answered.

“Hello?”

“Derek,”

“Boss, I didn’t know it was you.”

“I get it. Where are you?”

“At home, sir. Do you need me for anything?”

“Get the private jet ready, we are leaving for Las Vegas asap.”

“Yes, sir.”

Rhodes hung up the call, his face was as ha-rd as a rock.

“I am going with you,” Elodie stated.

“No, you’re not.”

“It is my daughter we are talking about here. I have to be there.”

“A daughter you don’t give a fuc-k about, eh?”

Elodie did not say anything.

“You are not coming with me and that’s final.” He attempted to leave when she said,

“I am not asking for your permission, Rhodes. I am going to see my daughter and you can’t stop me.”

ARIA’S HOUSE**

Aria sat on the couch, she had a lot on her mind.

Mikhail’s last word played over again in her head.

★FLASHBACK★

Marcello came downstairs along with the two other men but they were not with Lottie.

Mikhail furrowed his brows. “Where is she?”

“We couldn’t find her,” Marcello answered.

“What? She’s upstairs. I left her_” Aria began but Mikhail cut her off.

“She probably heard my voice and ran away.” He smirked. “I knew this was going to happen.” He faced Aria. “If she ever contacts you, tell her this; She can run as long as she wants but one thing is certain, she can never hide from my wrath. She can live her life as she wants now because when I get hold of her…I am not going to show any mercy.”

★END OF FLASHBACK★

“Oh, God.” Aria sighed, ma-ssaging her temple when she got a notification.

She took out her phone and saw a text message from Lottie.

LOTTIE: I DIDN’T KNOW YOU WOULD BETRAY ME LIKE THIS, ARIA. I THOUGHT WE ARE BEST FRIENDS. I THOUGHT YOU ARE ON MY SIDE. WELL, YOU’VE MADE YOUR POINT CLEAR AND I KNOW WHOSE SIDE YOU ARE ON. THE WORST BEST FRIEND OF THE YEAR GOES TO YOU. ALWAYS WATCH YOUR BACK, DEAREST FRIEND, BECAUSE YOU WON’T BE EXCLUDED FROM MY ANGER.
