HOTEL

ROOM 204**

Lottie sat in front of the mirror, staring at her reflection.

“I hate you,” She grumbled to herself, “I hate you so much just like every other human.” She lowered her gaze to the picture of Mikhail she was holding. “But why don’t I hate you? Why can’t I hate you?”

★FLASHBACK★

Young Mikhail was making water bubbles while Lottie was bursting them in the air, grinning widely.

She has never had this much fun in her life before.

Ever since she met his new friend of hers, things kinda changed. She became happier, bolder, and at peace.

They’ve been friends for the past two months.

He was the one person in the world who makes her so happy.

Where has he been all her life? She wondered.

Lottie mistakenly tripped and fell on the ground, bruising her knee.

“Ouch.”

Mikhail immediately rushed to meet her.

“Are you okay?” He asked, worriedly.

“Uh, yeah.” She said.

“No, you are not. Look, your knee is bleeding.” He to-re out a piece of his clothes and started using it to dab her injured knee. “There is no water around…” He surveyed the place. “What do I do?”

“Milky, I’m okay. I don’t even feel any pain. See.” She tried to stretch her leg but whined. “It hurts.” She pouted.

“I know it does. I will give you a piggyback and take you home.”

“What? no, you don’t_”

“It is not up for a debate.”

He bent over in front of her and she mounted on his back, wrapping her tiny arms around his neck but not to the point of choking him. She placed her chin on his shoulder and her legs were firmly dra-ped around his torso.

“Are you settled?” He asked.

“Yes.”

Mikhail stood up and started walking away from the almost empty park.

“Why are you so nice to me?” Lottie asked after a moment of walking in silence.

“Because we are friends.” He answered.

“Do you treat your other friends like this?” She questioned.

“I don’t have any friends aside from you.”

“That’s a lie.”

“You said you have only one friend and then me, should I say you are lying also?”

Lottie giggled. “No, I was telling the truth. I hate humans. But I don’t hate you.”

“What about your sister? Do you hate her also?”

“I hate her more.”

“Why? I heard she is a nice person.”

“Nice, my foot.” She hissed. ”She is only a pretender and doesn’t care about me.”

“But, people said you were the one who don’t care about her.” He said.

“Are you going to believe other people over me?” She asked him.

“What? No. I..”

“Milky,”

“Yes?”

“Can you promise me something?”

“What is it?”

“Promise that you will always believe and trust me.” She said.

Mikhail hesitated. “I can’t promise you that but I will always believe and trust you.”

“That will do.”

She laid her cheek on his shoulder and closed her eyes.

“Can I be honest?”

“Sure,”

“You were right about what you said the first day we met.” She paused. “I might like you more than I like Aria.” Her li-ps stretched into a smile. “I will never let you go, Milky.”

★END OF FLASHBACK★

“You said you were going to believe and trust me. How could you go back to your promise? How could you leave me and support others against me?

She started crying.

“Why can’t you choose to love me? You met me first. You cared about me. You were willing to give me piggyback just because of a little injury. How could all that change in the twinkle of the eyes?”

She balled her fist and glared ha-rd at her reflection.

“I hate you. You caused this. Because of you, I am never going to be with Mikhail.”

She grabbed a knife from the table and cut throu-ghher right cheek, blood gushing out.

Lottie didn’t flinch or hiss from the pain.

“I can’t be with Mikhail because of you. It is all your fault. Arghh!” She stood up and started punching the mirror.

The mirror started breaking until someone knocked on her door.

She gro-aned and walked towards the door, she opened it slightly and peeked her head throu-gh.

“What the fuc-k do you want?” She snarled at the elderly woman.

“Can you keep it down? You are disturbing me in the next room.”

Lottie did not say anything.

The woman saw the blood on Lottie’s right cheek.

“Oh, my God. Are you okay? You are bleeding.”

“Mind your business.” Lottie snapped and then shut the door closed right in front of the woman’s face.

She went back to sit down in front of the almost broken mirror.

She started remembering the words of Mikhail when he came over to Aria’s house.

★FLASHBACK★

She was about to descend the stairs when she hears voices. After a few seconds of listening, she quickly recognized Mikhail’s voice.

“Do you know the one thing I regret the most?” He asked but she did not say anything. “Showing kindness to a psychopath.”

Lottie’s legs nearly gave up when she hears those words from him.

Psychopath?

Did he refer her to be a psychopath? She didn’t want to believe it.

“How would I have known that the little kindness I showed a girl will come back to haunt me?”

“You should never have approached her in the first place.”

“I was a kid of ten years old. I just moved to the hometown with my family. I had no friends at all. When I saw her all by herself excluded from others, I thought she was like me who is struggling to mingle with other kids but little did I know that she was a sick girl who didn’t give a fuc-k about her family.”

No. They were the ones who didn’t give a fuc-k about her.

Why won’t anyone want to listen to her side of the story?

Why are they already judging her without knowing how she fuc-k ing feels?

Even Mikhail has become a part of them.

She started crying quietly.

She wasn’t paying attention to the rest of their words until but one word penetrated her ears, broke some walls, and then hit her eardrum.

“Why are you pleading for her life? Is it better than the life she almost took?”

‘Almost? Wait, the nanny isn’t dead?’ She thought, anger clouding her face. ‘How is this possible? How did she fuc-k ing survive it? I stabbed her four times. How did she not fuc-k ing die?’

★END OF FLASHBACK★

“How is she alive? Does that make sense? I killed her. I fuc-k ing killed her. How is she alive?” She gro-aned, shaking her head repeatedly. “No. I’m not going to let that bit-ch live. Never. She is not going to be surviving for the third time. No. I am going to kill her. I must kill her. Even if it is the last thing I do.” She glowered. “Milky, I am never letting you go. Never. It is either me or no one else.”

DIEGO’S HOUSE**

Felix strolled inside the house and sighted Layla in the living room watching a movie.

“Is Rose still sleeping?”

“No.”

“No? Where is she?”

“She left.”

“What?” Felix hurriedly went to sit down beside Layla. “She left? How do you mean?”

“According to her, she has somewhere important to be.” Layla simply answered.

“How long has she been gone for?”

“Ten minutes ago, I guess.” She shrugged.

“Why didn’t you try to stop her or at least give me a call?” He gro-aned.

Layla glanced at him and gave him the ‘are you seriously saying that?’ look.

“Don’t be stupid, Felix. Do you expect me to stop her from going to the important place? And what if I had called you, what would you have done, hmm?”

“Shit. I wanted to confess my feelings to her today.”

“You can always do that,” Layla muttered and continued watching the movie.

“I don’t think I will ever have the courage to.” He sighed.

“Did you get the groceries?” She asked.

“Yeah. I will be going home now.”

She nodded. “Okay.”

“I called Daria over.”

“Wait, what?” She snapped her gaze to him. “Why? What for?”

“Because you are not supposed to be alone, Layla. You are pregnant.”

She rolled her eyes. “I am pregnant and not sick. Besides, the baby bump is still small and I can do certain things by myself. I don’t need Daria here.”

“I thought you’ve forgiven her.”

“I hold no grudge against her but_”

They heard the sound of the doorbell.

“I think it’s already too late to object because she’s here.”

“fuc-k , Felix…” She whined.

“Sorry.” He stood up and went to get the door.

Daria walked in and bowed her head slightly.

“Mr. Felix.”

“Hi, Daria. Your madam is in the living room. I’ve got some groceries and they are all in the kitchen. I will be on my way out now. Be there for Layla, okay?”

“Okay, sir.”

He partly turned to face the living room, Layla was shooting daggers at him throu-ghher eyes.

“I will be leaving now. Be nice, Layla. Bye!” He winked and stepped out of the house, closing the door behind him.

Daria hesitantly stepped further into the house and as soon as her gaze fell upon Layla, the girl dropped to her knees.

“Ma’am,” She called out in a soft voice. “I’m sorry about what happened…”

Layla stood up from the couch and walked away, ignoring the maid.

HOSPITAL**

“Hello?” Zara stood up and left the ward to answer the call.

“Zara,” A masculine voice called out.

She immediately recognized the voice. “Mr. Rhodes,”

“I am in Las Vegas. Send me the address of the hospital. Hurry.”

“Okay, sir.”

They hang up the call.

Zara quickly typed the address of the hospital and sent it over to Rhodes.

“Will he be coming with that sick woman?” She wondered. “I just hope she doesn’t cause trouble.” She started going back to the ward but sighted three hefty men standing in front of Diamond’s ward.

“Uhm, who are you people?” She asked them.

The three men gazed at her.

“We were sent here to watch over Miss Chase’s ward. Sorry, who are you?” One of them answered and asked.

“I am Miss Chase’s best friend. But wait, who sent the three of you here?”

“The boss. Mr. Ca-ssano.” The second one replied. “Please ma’am, you can go back inside. We are not allowed to talk to you for too long.”

“I see.”

The first guard that spoke opened the door for her and she entered.

RESTAURANT**

Rosa giggled, covering her mouth with her palm.

Jerry sat opposite her, admiring her beauty.

“Stop looking at me like that.” She clears her throat.

“You are beautiful and I can’t help but admire you.” He said.

Her cheeks turned a red color and she dropped her gaze to the table, suddenly feeling shy.

He grinned at her cute reaction. “Did I mention that you are cute too?”

“Stop.” She chuckled.

Jerry took a sip of water and leaned back in his seat, not taking his eyes off the beauty seated from him.

“I’m so glad that you are here with me.” He mumbled.

She raised her gaze to him and smiled,

“Honestly, I am glad too. However, I didn’t expect you to suddenly call me and ask me to go out on a date with you. It was so impromptu.”

“I’m sorry about that.”

“It’s fine.”

“That reminds me, where were you coming back from?” He asked.

“From a friend’s place.” She replied.

“Okay. So, are you done with your food?”

“Yeah…”

“Let’s go. There is somewhere else I want to show you.” He winked.

“Where?”

“Now, that’s going to be a secret. It’s a surprise. Come on, let’s go.”

TORTURE ROOM**

“Argh, I am sorry, sir. I am so sorry. Please forgive me.” The guard who had let Lottie leave the house that night screamed in pain, blood gushing out of his mouth and nose.

Mikhail wiped the blood from his nose with a white towel and threw it into a trash bin.

Marcello instantly provided another white towel and laid it on the table where numerous weapons lay.

“How long have you been working for me?” Mikhail asked in a low dangerous voice as he picked up a chain and wrapped it around his knuckles.

“Fi…five years, sir.” The guard stuttered.

“Ah, I thought it was for only two days because only someone who worked with me for two days will do what you did.”

“I’m sor_” Before he could complete the apology, Mikhail landed a heavy blow on the guard’s left eye, using the fist that has a chain wrapped around it.

“Arrgh!” He screamed in pain, blood flowing down from his left eye. He couldn’t even open it anymore.

“You are sorry?” Mikhail scoffed, “What is your name?”

“Jo…Joe.” Joe answered, crying bitterly.

“Joe…you should have known better.”

“I’m sorry, sir. I…I…I didn’t know she stabbed Miss Chase. She…She threatened to get me fired if I don’t let her go. I’m sorry.” Joe pleaded.

“What is my number one rule?” Mikhail asked, tilting his head to the side, and giving Joe a predator look.

“Nev…never let anyone in or out of the Ca-ssano’s home without your…your permission.”

“And what happens if you break that rule?”

“Please sir don’t kill me. Please, I beg of you.”

Mikhail unwrapped the chain around his fist and took a step back.

He stared at the guard and then remembered the state of the nanny.

He remembered how she almost died from the stab.

He was losing his mind and it has something to do with the nanny. Seeing her in that state really broke his heart into a million pieces.

He hardly tortures the offenders. Marcello was the one in charge of that but Mikhail felt the need to torture this bastard and that was exactly what he did.

“Lock him up in the dungeon with no food or water,” He ordered his right-hand man and then left the room.

HOSPITAL**

“We will be leaving now,” Evelyn said, coming up to her feet. “Aurora, let’s go.”

“No. I want to be with my nanny until she wakes up.” Aurora said.

“I’m sorry, kid but you can’t. Your father asked me to bring you home before 6. Please let’s go.”

Aurora was going to object but Zara cut in,

“If your nanny wakes up tonight, I promise you are going to be the first to know. And if she doesn’t wake up, you can come over tomorrow.”

“But…”

“Do you want to get Evelyn into trouble?” Ayden asked.

“No.”

“Then go home.” He said.

Aurora hesitated before nodding her head. “Okay.”

“Thank you.” Evelyn mouthed to Zara and Ayden before leaving the ward with the little girl.

“She is such a wonderful kid,” Ayden commented.

“I know, right?” She paused. “Oh, did I tell you that Mr. Rhodes is on his way here?”

“No. Is he coming with that mean woman?”

Zara chuckled and shrugged. “I don’t know. Maybe. But I doubt she will want to come here.”

•••••

MIKHAIL’S ROOM**

Mikhail loosened his necktie as he entered his room.

Most people may be wondering, why didn’t he just track Lottie down?

The answer is simple.

Lottie isn’t stupid.

She knows he is on her tail and would do anything to crawl into a hole and hide.

However, she won’t be hiding for too long because of the news about the nanny’s survival.

She will come over to the hospital to finish what she started, he is sure of that.

Mikhail pulled out a pack of cigarettes and took out one stick and a lighter.

He lit up the cigarette and went to stand in the window. His gaze was solely on the sky. “I set up a trap for one prey but it feels like I am going to be catching two preys.” He smirked, taking a long drag of the cigarette and puffed smoke out into the air. “Octavius, I will be waiting for you.”

ONE HOUR LATER

HOSPITAL**

“Who did you say you are?” One of the guards asked, staring at Rhodes and Elodie.

“Are you crazy? Who the fuc-k are you?” Rhodes snapped.

“I’m sorry, sir. But I won’t let you in_”

Ayden opened the door from inside, his eyes wide-ned when he saw Diamond’s stepdad and mother.

“Mr. Rhodes,” He called out.

“Do you know him?” The guard who refused to let Rhodes in, asked.

“Yes. He is the patient’s dad. Please come in.” Ayden stated, opening the door widely.

Rhodes pushed the guards out of his way and entered along with Elodie.

Ayden closed the door behind them and they approached Diamond and Zara.

“Oh, my God.” Rhodes gro-aned, holding his daughter’s hand, and sat down on the chair beside the bed. “What the hell happened to her? How long has she been like this?”

“Uhm, we don’t know what really happened to her. Although, we do know what thing.” Zara said.

“Which is?” The man asked.

“She was stabbed.” Ayden was the one who answered the question.

Rhodes’s face dropped immediately.

“What? How did that happen?”

“We don’t know. She was rushed here by her boss.”

“Wait, she was stabbed at her workplace, is that what you are saying?” Elodie questioned.

“Yes,” Zara grumbled, scrunching her face.

“How is that even possible?” Elodie thought out loud, momentarily staring at her daughter. “She is a mere writer and not an a-ssa-ssin. How could she have been stabbed? That makes no sense at all.”

“Well,” Ayden cleared his throat. “she quit her job as a writer.”

“And she took on a job as a live-in nanny,” Zara added.

“What!!” Elodie and Rhodes exclaimed at the same time.

Ca-ssANO’S MANSION

AURORA’S ROOM**

“Is my nanny going to die?”

“I thought I told you that she isn’t going to die. Don’t you trust me?”

“I do but I’m scared that I will never get to see her.” She mumbled. “I miss her so much, daddy. She makes me happy.”

“I know. And I promise that nothing will happen to her. Believe me.”

She popped out her pinky finger towards him,

“Pinky promise?”

Mikhail chuckled as he wrapped his pinky finger around her tiny ones.

“Pinky promise.”

They sealed the promise with their thumb fingers, both having warm smiles on their faces.

“I trust you.”

He ki-ssed her forehead. “Good to hear you say that.”

“Dad?” She called out quietly, leaning against the bed headboard.

“Yes, baby.” He raised a brow at her, watching her closely.

“I will go and visit my nanny tomorrow, right?”

He shrugged. “If you wish.”

“Are you going to take me there this time around or will_”

Mikhail cut her off. “I will take you there myself, okay?”

“You can’t go back on your word.”

“I won’t, princess.”

His phone started buzzing. Mikhail stared at the caller ID.

“Daddy needs to get this call, honey.” He said to his daughter, standing up to his feet.

“Okay.”

He left the room and went to his study room.

“Speak,” He said into the phone, holding it against his ear.

It was one of the guards from the hospital.

“Sir, you asked me to report to you anyone that goes in and out of Miss Chase’s ward,”

“Who visited?”

“Miss Chase’s parents.” The guard answered.

Mikhail clenched his fist, anger glistening in his eyes.

“Her father must not know that you are from me, do I make myself clear?”

“Yes, sir.”

Mikhail hangs up the call and shot daggers at the wall, his chest tightening heavily from outrage.

“Just as I predicted.” He balled his fist, his knuckles turning white. “Octavius, we are finally going to meet after all these years. Are you ready to see your nemesis?”

TBC.
