MIKHAIL’S OFFICE**

★“He runs a company…”★

Mikhail clenched his fist, glaring ha-rd at the picture of Rhodes.

How dare that bastard? So after killing his precious wife, he decided to go into a fuc-k ing business?

Was it a facade or did he really stop being a mafia don?

He needed more information on the idiot. And his daughter’s nanny was the only option.

There was a gentle knock on the door.

“Come in,”

The door opened and Marcello walked in alongside Boaz.

“Capo.” They both bowed at the same time, standing in front of the black desk.

“How is the search going? Did you find anything yet?” Mikhail asked the skilled hacker.

Boaz shook his head. “No, sir. He did a good job of hiding his location. There is literally no information about him.”

“Rhodes Chase,” Mikhail said.

“Sir?” Boaz and Marcello asked in synchronization.

“That’s his fuc-k ing disguised name.”

“Oh, now I see why the nanny’s last name is Chase.” Marcello uttered, nodding his head in understanding.

“Should I run an investigation on anyone bearing that name?” Boaz asked.

Mikhail stood up from the chair, stuffing his hands into his pan-ts pocket. He rounded the desk and came to stand in front of the two men.

“That would be pointless. Octavius isn’t stupid. He has covered his track and hidden his location for the past five years. He knows exactly what he is doing.”

“What are we going to do then?”

“Let him keep hiding,” Mikhail answered.

“What?” Marcello frowned.

“I’m sorry if this sounds offensive, but are you saying we shouldn’t do anything?” Boaz questioned.

“Who said we aren’t going to do anything?” Mikhail collected the picture of Diamond and her stepdad embracing. “We have easy access to get right into him, so why should we stress ourselves over nothing when we already have everything under control?”

HALLWAY**

“Where did you get that picture from?” Lottie asked, becoming anxious. “Where did you get Diamond’s picture from!?” She yelled.

Diamond’s eyes wide-ned in shock.

“How…how did you know my…wait, does this mean you know this girl?” She gestured at the picture. “You know her, right?”

Lottie’s face turned pale, she clenched and unclenched her fist, looking so frightened and scared over something as she stared at the little girl’s face.

How did the nanny get this picture? She wondered.

Diamond could see the fear in Lottie’s eyes. Which made her realize that whatever past was between the both of them was something terrifying.

But what is this past? She needs to figure it out.

“Answer me, Lottie. Do you know_”

“No,” Lottie answered, cutting her off. She seem to have put herself together and gathered up enough courage to speak. “I don’t know her.”

Diamond shook her head in disagreement. “You are lying. You obviously know this girl.”

“I said I don’t know her.”

“Stop lying! If you don’t know her as you claim, how then did you know what her name is, huh?”

Lottie gulped. “She looks like someone I know but she’s definitely not the one.”

‘I look like someone she knows?’ The nanny thought.

“What are you saying? She looks like someone you know. And what, the person is also named Diamond, is that what you are saying?” It was becoming too complex and complicated for Diamond to understand anything.

There was an awkward silence until…

“You said you don’t want to fight but I don’t think that’s the case. You are clearly here for trouble.” Lottie snapped. “I don’t know what you are playing at or who that girl is to you but don’t ask me questions like this ever again. If you are searching for her then go out there and ask pa-ssersby!” She turned around and stormed back into her room.

Diamond stared at the closed door for a few minutes, biting her lower li-p.

‘She’s lying. Lottie recognized my face in this picture. She even knows my name. But why does she look so scared about something? Did I by any way hurt her in the past?’ Diamond gro-aned, clutching her phone tight. “fuc-k ing hell, why can’t I even remember our encounter?”

DIEGO’S COMPOUND**

“What did you just say?” He asked for the hundredth time.

Daria gulped nervously, playing with her fingers. “I…I overheard Mr. Felix and…and your wife. They…They…”

“Speak!” He demanded angrily.

The maid flinched in fright, taking a step back. “I think they are having an affair.”

Diego’s world came crashing down as soon as those words rolled out of the maid’s mouth.

No, Layla won’t possibly cheat on him. She loves him. She told him that herself. Or was all that a lie? Has she been lying to his face while fuc-k ing her best friend? No. No, that’s not possible.

His face hardened in fury. “You think?” Diego scoffed. “Do you know how serious this accusation is?”

Daria nodded her head. “I swear, I didn’t want to say anything but…but my conscience was pricking on me. I can’t hold it in anymore and act like everything is fine.”

“God,” Diego gro-aned, burying his fingers inside his hair. “Daria,”

“Yes, sir?”

He paused for a few seconds. “I’m going to ask you again because if it turns out that all this you’ve just said is a lie…I don’t care whether you misunderstood the situation or not, I will make life very uncomfortable for you for the rest of your life.” He threatened. “Now answer me, are you sure about what you are saying?”

The maid nodded her head again. “Yes, sir. I would never lie about a thing as serious as this.”

Diego let out a de-ep breath, clenching his fist tightly. “You can go back inside.”

“Okay, sir.” She bowed and left.

“I have to investigate this. I need to be sure that Daria isn’t lying to me.” He said to himself. “But, what if she is actually telling the truth..?”

*****

LOTTIE’S ROOM**

“No…no..” Lottie breathed heavily, rushing to the cosmetic table. “This isn’t happening.” She closed her eyes, clutching the edge of the table.

The memories were back. They were back to haunt her and that was scaring the shit out of her.

★FLASHBACK★

“Drink this, you bit-ch !”

“No, please. I don’t want it.” She cried.

“Be a good girl and drink this.” He urged.

“No. Let me go!”

The hulking man yanked her brunette hair forcefully, earning loud cries from the little girl.

“I said open your mouth, now.” He growled, almost plucking her hair out of her head.

Lottie obediently opened her mouth as the pain he was inflicting on her head becomes unbearable.

“Good girl.” He placed the li-p of the cup against her mouth and watched her drink the smelling urine. “Isn’t it delicious?” He smirked.

Lottie finished drinking the whole of his damn urine and pulled her li-ps away from the cup, scrunching her face in disgust. She felt like puking out her guts.

“Answer my question…isn’t it delicious?” He glared at her.

Lottie nodded her head.

“Words, young lady.” He hit her ha-rd across the face. “ANSWER ME!”

“Yes.” She whimpered, blood gushing out of the new cut on her li-ps.

“Yes, what?”

“Yes, it’s delicious.” She answered.

“Good. Now I’m going to get you more since it is delicious.” He cackled darkly, making goosebumps spread over the little girl’s arms. “Tonight is going to be so much fun.”

★END OF FLASHBACK★

Lottie snapped her eyes open, fear taking the better part of her.

The memories felt like yesterday and the reminder of drinking a man’s urine make her want to vomit.

She began to rummage throu-ghher handbag, finding it so difficult to breathe.

She finally found what she was looking for. Lottie pulled out a medication bottle, and with trembling hands, she took out two pills and swallowed them.

Gradually, the pain subsided and she was back to herself again.

Lottie goes to sit down on the couch in the corner of the room. She gritted her teeth and cracked her knuckles, staring into space.

“What’s going on? How does the nanny have Diamond’s picture? Who the fuc-k is she and what is the connection between the both of them?” She asked herself, furrowing her brows. “I’m sure that was Diamond in that picture. I can never forget that face. I can never forget that day…”

Her breathing picked up again.

“No…” She squee-zed her eyes shut. “Get out of my head. Get out of my head.” She started crying, continually hitting her head very hard. “Get out. Please…”

DIEGO’S HOUSE**

Layla was just coming downstairs at the same time Daria was stepping inside the house.

They both bumped into each other and the maid started trembling with her head lowered.

“Daria, are you okay?” Layla asked, worriedly.

“Ye…yes, ma.” She stuttered.

“No, I don’t think so.” Layla disagreed, shaking her head. “You are trembling. Are you sick or something?”

“N…no.”

“Are you sure because you don’t look so good? Raise your head.”

“No, I’m_”

“Daria, raise your head. I want to see your face.” She insisted.

Daria hesitated before finally doing as she was asked to. She raised her head and met her madam’s gaze.

“What is going on with you?”

The maid swallowed nervously, rubbing the back of her neck.

“You know what,” Layla cleared her throat. “You can tell me when I return, okay?”

“O..okay.” She nodded.

“Alright then. Please take care of the house.” She patted the girl gently on the shoulder and left the house, dangling her car keys.

Just as the door closed, Daria let out the breath she have been holding since she bumped into her madam.

She placed her palm over her chest and breathe in and out repeatedly.

“Did…did I do the right thing in telling the boss the truth about his wife?” She thought out loud.

*****

DIAMOND’S COMPANY**

Rhodes alighted the car, and Derek was standing in front of the company.

“Boss,” He bowed.

“How did it go?”

“She successfully deleted the whole footage. There’s nothing to worry about.” Derek a-ssured.

“Hmm. I was having a strange feeling on my way here.”

“What do you mean, sir?”

“I think someone is watching me, I can feel it.” Rhodes unsuspiciously surveys the environment. “My instincts are never wrong.”

“Do you think this is Mr. Ca-ssano’s doing? You think he has figured out where you’re at and have someone watching over you?”

“I don’t know.”

“Boss, I think you are overthink_”

“Complete that sentence and you are dead.” Rhodes growled.

“I’m sorry, sir.” Derek apologized immediately.

“Keep your eyes open, if you notice anything strange around, don’t hesitate to inform me and take action, okay?”

“Okay, sir.”

“Let’s go inside.”

They both entered the company.

*****

FELIX’S HOUSE**

“She wants to meet up?” Rosa asked.

Felix nodded, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Yes. I guess she wants to talk about our last conversation.”

“Are you really going to tell her husband the truth?”

“That’s crazy. Of course not. I want to change for the better and not become completely evil.”

“Then a-ssure her that her secret is safe with you and that whatever happened between the both of you is now in the past.” Rosa stated, picking up her handbag from the couch.

“Will she trust me? I was a total jerk that day. She saved my a-ss by taking me to the hospital and instead of showing appreciation, I blamed her for the shit going on in my life and threatened her as well.”

Rosa stroked his back softly. “That’s why you need to convince her, okay?”

“Hmm.” He hummed whilst nodding his head. “Thank you for staying the night. It really means a lot to me.”

“What are friends for, huh?” She smiled.

“Friends…” Felix repeated, frowning a little.

“I should get going. I don’t want your best friend to come over and see me here. Our first and last encounter wasn’t a good one.”

“I know, right? I’m sorry, it was all my fault.”

“If I’m not mistaken you said I apologize too much. You should check yourself first.” Rosa chuckled, heading for the door.

Felix laughed and then cleared his throat. “See you some other time?”

“Sure. I’m a phone call away.” She winked, stepping out of the house. “Besides, you will always come by at the club, right?”

He nodded. “Of course.”

“Good.” She waved, smiling, and then walked away.

THIRTY MINUTES LATER;

FELIX’S HOUSE**

“Hey,” He opened the door and ushered Layla in.

She entered, folding her arms over her chest.

Felix shut the door behind them. “I didn’t expect your call this morning.”

“Of course, not after what you did the last time.” She snapped.

“I’m sorry about that, okay? That was so foolish of me to do and I’m sorry.”

“You’re sorry?” She scoffed. “Do you think a mere apology is going to change anything?”

He shook his head. “No. But I want you to know that your secret is safe with me.”

“That’s the problem!” She flared up. “I can never live comfortably when you have my secret in your left palm.”

“Listen, I will never tell your husband about what transpired between the both of us. Believe me.” He said.

Layla sniffled, tears rolling down her face. “I can’t forget about it, Felix. This isn’t about you telling him but…but…I cheated on Diego. He didn’t deserve it and no matter how long I keep this secret,” She paused. “It will forever haunt me.” She dropped her bag on the floor. “He keeps apologizing over every little thing and that got me thinking, will a simple apology amend anything? I can apologize to him from now till forever but that won’t change a thing. I broke our marriage vow. I…” She shook her head. “I don’t deserve him at all.”

“It’s not your fault. You got married to him because you wanted to help your family business and not because of love. Any woman in your shoe_”

“Please don’t complete that sentence. No responsible woman would cheat on her husband regardless of the situation. I have no fuc-k ing excuse.” She palmed her forehead. “What do I do?”

Felix heaved out a de-ep breath, shrugging. “Don’t tell him the truth, Layla. That’s the only way to keep Diego and save your marriage.”

“And what about the guilt?” She queried.

“I’m sure with time it would fade away.” He placed his palm on his chest. “But I swear not to tell Diego about the both of us.”

She stared at him. “You promise?”

“I promise.”

She grabbed her handbag from the floor. “What has gotten into you?”

“What do you mean?”

“Um, you seem different. I mean, you don’t act like the jerk I know.”

Felix chuckled. “Woah, I deserved that.”

“Mmh. So tell me, what has life thrown at you?”

“Sense?”

They both laughed.

“I can see that. Anyway, I’m glad you have a sense now.” She walked towards the door.

“Me too. Are you not going to stay longer? I didn’t even offer you anything to drink.”

“Nah. I should get going. Besides, I don’t think you and I should be left alone in a house.” She joked.

“Yeah, right.” He pulled the door open and immediately, Layla’s eyes went wide. “Layla, are you_” Felix who haven’t seen what she was seeing turned around to find Diego standing right in front of them. “Oh, shit.”

Layla’s hands started trembling. “Die…Diego?” She gulped in fear.

“Wow. You know, if anyone had told me that my wife is a wh*re, I will kill that person.” He said, anger clouding his face. “How could you?”

“Diego…” She tried to touch his arm.

“Don’t touch me.” He warned, swatting her hand away. “When Daria told me that you were cheating, I thought she was lying,”

“Da…Daria told you?” Layla stammered.

“Is that all you are worried about?” She quickly shook her head as a no. “I was almost driving out of the street when your car drove past mine. I was wondering why you were driving at high speed or why you didn’t recognize my car and then I remembered Daria’s accusation so I decided to follow you and I’m so glad I did.”

Layla lowered her gaze. She was so focused on getting to Felix’s house that she was subconscious about her environment. How stupid can she be?

“I’m…”

“Don’t even think of apologizing. Because just as you’ve said, no amount of apology can amend or change anything.”

“Diego…” Felix began.

“Don’t fuc-k ing call my name, you a-sshole.” Diego growled at him. “I really want to punch you in the face right now but that will be so low of me.” He took a step back, staring at his wife. “I can’t believe you would do this.”

“Diego, please wait. Let me explain.” She said.

“I don’t want to hear anything.” He said. “I think I’ve heard enough already.” He glanced at Felix. “Next time make your house soundproof so that your conversations won’t be heard outside.” He turned around and walked away.

“No, no. Diego. Diego, please listen to me.” Layla cried, plopping to the floor.
