Jeffrey, Anamika, Jane and Leo stood in the room while the doctor attended to Valerie. She was unconscious.
They all had that anxious look while she checked on her.
Soon, the doctor was done checking her and she turned to them.
“Doctor, how’s my daughter?” Anamika asked first.
“She’s fine now. Seems she ate something which she’s allergic to.” The doctor said.
“Yeah, she did. She said she’s allergic to scallop eggs, but she ate it.” Jane said and the doctor nodded.
“She has literally no tolerance for it, you should never let her have it.” The doctor said and they nodded.
“She’ll be fine when she gets up. I’ll take my leave now.” The doctor said and they nodded.
“Thanks Ms Greg. I’ll see you out.” Jeffrey said and Ms Greg nodded, leaving the room with her briefcase.
“My baby.” Anamika said sitting on the bed, beside Valerie.
Leo walked to her. “Aunt Valerie.” He called, holding her hand. Anamika smiled.
“Wake up.” He muttered.
Jeffrey came back into the room. “Jane.” He called.
“Sir.” She replied.
“Take Leo to his room her.” He instructed.
“I want to stay with Aunt Valerie.” Leo protested.
“Leo, she needs to rest.” Jane said, when she saw Jeffrey wasn’t gonna take his excuse.
“Let’s go.” She said, holding his hand. Leo reluctantly followed, his eyes on Valerie as he was pulled away.
Jeffrey took his eyes to Anamika who feigned a smile.
“I guess you’re Jeffrey, I’m Anamika Keys. Valerie’s mom.” She introduced, and Jeffrey looked at her as tho he was scrutinizing her.
After what seemed like forever, he said. “Cool.” In a mutter, nodding his head.
Anamika gave a small smile.
Jeffrey only smirk, walking out of the room. Anamika puffed out air.
Valerie’s lashes flickered open and she winced lowly as she sat up on the bed.
She was feeling better than few hours ago. Her eyes squinted around and she gasped remembering what happened earlier ago.
Jeffrey saw her!

Her strength was already failing her, her knees wobbled and found herself going down.
“Valerie!!!”
She expected to meet the cold surface of the harsh floor but instead she fell on his strong arm which acted like a shield.
Her gaze was blurry as she looked at him, but she could tell he was the one.
Jeffrey.
“Valerie!, Wake up.” He said softly, slapping her cheek lightly. That was all she heard before she lost consciousness.

She shook her head. “No.” She muttered as she remembered.
Jeffrey knows Madison is allergic to scallop eggs and now, she was as well. That was surely gonna increase his suspicion.
She quickly searched her phone and dialled Derek’s number immediately she saw it.
He picked up at the second ring.
“Madi, you’re awake. Anamika told me everything.” He said.
“Dad, there’s a problem.” She said and Derek sighed.
“I know Valerie, but I assure you it’ll be fine. Jeffrey might be suspicious of you as Madison. I looked at it today, maybe he finds you suspicious because of her how you became friends with Evie. Anamika being there has already erased that thought of you being Madison. Two people can have the same allergy. Okay?” Derek said and slowly nodded.
“Okay dad. Thanks.” She said and Derek nodded.
Valerie walked out of her room to Leo’s room. It was already late at night and he was fast asleep.
She smiled sitting beside him on the bed, caressing his head softly.
“Goodnight Alex.” She whispered and placed a soft kiss on his forehead before standing up and leaving.
She made to go downstairs but while passing Jeffrey’s room, she met his room door slightly opened but he wasn’t in it.
She walked into the room and squinted around, he truly wasn’t in it.
“Where’s he?” She wondered, before descending the stairs. Everywhere was quiet. Seems everyone was asleep.
She wanted to shrug his thought and go into the kitchen to get what made her climb down the stairs but she couldn’t find herself doing it.
She sighed before turning around and walking out of the house.
As expected, he was outside, sitting by the poolside, drinking.
She exhaled before walking towards him and sitting beside him. Jeffrey exhaled when he felt the presence beside him.
“Hey.” She called softly.
Jeffery only nodded, not looking at her.
She puffed out air.
“Drinking again?” She said in a questioning tone but he didn’t reply.
“Yunno you might get lung cancer at this rate.” She said but he didn’t reply and she kept quiet not talking further.
She puffed out air again rubbing her arms. She was wearing a short sleeves shirt and it was cold outside.
Jeffrey noticed it.
“You should go inside if it’s cold.” He said and she chuckled.
“Of course, it’s not. I’m fine.” She lied and Jeffrey looked at her.
He could see she was already having goose pimples on her skin.
“Yunno winter season is my favorite, so this cold is nothing compared to the one in Switzerland.” She said and he huffed, before sipping from his glass of vodka.
“Apart from cold season, do you know the other things I love, I love high places. I love the skyrocketing. It eases my fears.” She said rubbing her arms more, and Jeffrey scoffed before dropping his glass.
He took off his jacket and wore it on her.
“You should learn how to lie, you suck.” He whispered in her ears, making her shiver.
“Oh.” She muttered as he sat upright.
“At least I got you to talk, you wouldn’t say anything.” She shrugged.
Silence ensued, she was expecting him to ask her about her health or something. She wanted to find out what he thought. And as if he read her mind.
“Your health now?” He asked and she smiled.
“I’m okay. Thanks.” She replied.
“Why eat something you’re allergic to?” He asked and she pressed her lips.
“Actually, I thought I’ve gotten over my allergy for scallops, so I wanted to try it.” She said sharply.
Another silence ensued and she exhaled, rubbing her palms. The silence was strangely uncomfortable. She could enjoy the silence whenever she was with someone else, but she couldn’t just help but feel anxious with his silence.
It was as tho his silence spelt her next fate.
“Ermm, mind sharing…” She finally said when the silence was too much for her to cope with.
Jeffrey didn’t act like he heard what she said.
“Who is she??” She asked again and Jeffrey looked at her.
“Uhmm, I mean the reason you’re always drinking. You seem to always be at lost at something. And it could only have to do with someone, so I was wondering who it was.” She said and Jeffrey, arched his brows, interestedly.
“How did you know it was a she?” He asked and she smiled.
“It was a she? I got it after all. I only guessed. I didn’t expect to get it right tho.” Valerie said and Jeffrey nodded his head slowly looking at her.
His eyes suddenly darted to her hands. She was picking on her fingers.
Valerie kept on picking on her fingers, as she felt his gaze on her. It was making her nervous that she refused to look back at him.
“Madison??” He suddenly said and her eyes widened. The name echoed in her head thrice and she felt her blood froze.
The tone he used sounded like one which was to decipher if his thoughts were right, more like a questioning tone.
“Wh—”
“Madison Roberts. ” He chuckled and she gulped down, her heart palpitating in fear.
“You act like her.” He added, sipping from his glass and Valerie exhaled but the tension in her heart didn’t lessen.
“I do??” She asked slowly and he nodded, facing his front.
“She picks her fingers whenever she’s nervous. That’s more like an habit of hers.” He said and Valerie almost slapped her forehead.
Nevertheless,
“Who is she?” She asked after a short silence.
“Someone special to me.” He replied and she curled her lips.
“Your ex?” She asked and Jeffrey chuckled.
“No.”
“A friend?” Valerie asked again.
“More than.” He said and she mouthed an ‘O’.
“Lover?” She asked and Jeffrey looked at her. She chuckled, brushing it off immediately.
“I guess I went too far.” She said and Jeffrey chuckled before facing his front.
“So where is she now? Did you two separate? Or did you perhaps lost her location? You can look for her, if you miss her, yunno-”
“She’s dead.” He cut in her sentence, and Valerie gasped.
“Oh my. I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have asked.” She quickly apologized.
“It’s alright. Ion know why, I feel she’s still alive, somewhere.” He said and Valerie sniffed her dry nose, looking around.
“I feel the connection, like she’s very close to me, very very close, like she’s watching me…” He turned to her, staring and Valerie raised a brow.
“…Closely.” He completed in a whisper and Valerie gulped down nervously, his gaze was scaring the shít out of her.
She suddenly chuckled.
“Wow… Such connection.” She laughed dryly, to hide her nervousness.
She wondered why he was saying all this.
“I know.” Jeffrey drank from his glass again.
“But why will you think she’s alive. She died, didn’t you see her corpse?” She asked.
“Even tho I did, I still find it hard to believe.” He said and she nodded.
“So what if she’s alive? What are you gonna do? You’re already married to Evie.” Valerie said.
“I didn’t say she was my lover.” He corrected and Valerie mouthed an ‘O’.
“I… I thought.” She muttered.
“So mind telling me who she was?” She asked and Jeffrey scoffed.
“You should go to sleep.” He said, standing up.
“I get to sleep by 4am and I wake up by 6am.” Valerie said and Jeffrey smirked.
“I also get to sleep by 3am and I wake up by 4am but still I’m going to sleep.” He said before walking away.
Valerie sighed as she watched him walk away.
If Madison was someone special, why did he still betray her? What game was Evie playing on him??
She sighed.
It won’t be easy getting him to talk. She thought.

It was a dark night, loud music could heard in the scenario but the image wasn’t clear, two people talking and screaming their lungs as they vibed to the music playing.
Sounds of vehicle driving could also be heard.

“Yeah! Go! Ye!!” A feminine voice screamed.

A loud gasp was suddenly heard.

“Jeffrey!!” The feminine voice screamed, fear could be deciphered in the voice.
A loud screeching sound, followed by a scream of an someone was what was heard next.
“Ahh!!” Jeffrey screamed as he sprung up from his bed. He was breathing heavily and sweat formed beads on his forehead.
He buried his head on his palms, his heart still pounding.
“Good morning everyone.” Valerie greeted with a radiant smile, as she walked to the dining room.
“Good morning Aunt Valerie.” Leo greeted with a smile to her amazement.
Her eyes gleamed in excitement. “Good morning Leo, how are you?” She asked and he smiled cutely.
“I’m good. Are you okay now Aunt?” He asked and Valerie nodded.
“Yeah, sure.” She said, sitting beside him.
“Great, I was so scared. I thought something bad happened to you and I blamed myself for it.” He said and Valerie chuckled.
“You’re not at fault baby. You shouldn’t blame yourself, okay.” She said and Leo nodded.
She smiled at him before turning to Jeffrey.
“Hey, good morning.” She greeted and picked up her cutleries.
“Good morning.” Jeffrey replied to her amazement. She looked up at him, but he was not even looking at her, his eyes on his food.
She smiled.
After the little conversation last night, she kinda got relieved. He was no longer suspicious of her.
She knew him very well to know that.
“Aunt Valerie, do you mind dropping me off at school?” Leo asked and Valerie looked at him.
“Please.” He pouted cutely and she smiled.
“Aunt has a shoot this morning, but that doesn’t stop her from dropping you at work. Finish up let’s go.” She said and Leo smiled.
“Thank you Aunt Valerie, you’re best!” He squealed.
“You too.” She said and they giggled.
Jeffrey just watch the two with a small smile, it’s being long he saw Leo happy like this.
He is only like this with June and Evie’s mom. He is glad Valerie could make him smile again.

“Smile dummy.” June whispered to him as they walked into their lecture hall with the students murmuring.
June had her hands curled up in his arms and she was grinning ear to ear. She just feels super excited that she’s dating him.
“Is this a relationship or a show off?” Fawn asked with an eye roll. She picked him from his house just to walk into the school with him.
“Both.” June replied as they got into the classroom. The lecturer was already in class.
“You’re late for my class.” The lecturer said.
“Not like you can chase me out.” June said with an eye roll walking to her already reserved seat by Paisley.
She let go of Fawn’s hand, not after winking at him.
“Hey babe. Hi Ashie.” She said to them and Ashley smiled. He lived the way she calls his name. “Ashie.”
“What’s up June?” He asked and she nodded with a smile, those charming smile of hers.
“I’m cool. I got a boyfriend now, so I should be great, right?” She asked and the smile on Ashley’s face fell.
Paisley hissed and June turned to her, she was sitting in their middle.
“What’s wrong Paisley?” June asked.
“So you got a boyfriend, you’re gonna rub it on our face.” Paisley said and June chuckled.
“That’s not it Paisley.” June said.
“What is it?”
“C’mon Paisley, why are you sounding upset?” June asked and Paisley pressed her lips.
“C’mon girls, that’s enough.” Ashley intruded.
The lecturer looked at them, of course they were disturbing the class but he couldn’t do anything.

“It’s alright doctor. I just came to get the drugs.” He said and the doctor nodded.
He opened his drawer and brought out a small bottle.
“Here.” He handed it over to Jeffrey.
“Thanks.” He said and stood up.
“Are you still having the nightmares?” The doctor asked and Jeffrey exhaled.
“It’s not like it would leave me if I wanted it to.” He said and the doctor only nodded.
“Thanks for this.” He said, showing him the bottle.
“Welcome.”

Leo walked out of his classroom and he was elated to see Valerie outside, waiting for him.
She waved at him the moment she saw him and he ran to her.
“Aunt Valerie!” He squealed and she smiled, squatting to his level, receiving him in a warm hug.
“Baby.” She called patting his back.
“How are you?” She asked as they broke the hug.
“I’m fine.” He greeted.
“Great. So do you miss me?” She asked and he smiled.
“Surprisingly, I did.” He said and she chuckled.
“What! Surprisingly?? Why is it surprisingly??” She asked and he chuckled.
They kept on talking as they walked to her car.

In the president’s office, Giovanni Zhang could be seen in front of his laptop when a knock came in.
He pressed the intercom.
“James sir.” The person said and he unlocked the door with his remote.
The door opened and James, his secretary walked in.
“What’s it James?” Giovanni asked.
“Boss, there’s a letter for you.” James said and Giovanni rolled his eyes.
Who sends letter in this century??
“What does it state?” He asked.
“It’s confidential sir.” James replied and Giovanni looked up for the first time.
“Who’s it from?” He asked.
“No details. It’s an anonymous sender.” He said a d Giovanni heaved.
He stretched out his hand and James handed him the envelope which opened and went through the content.
His eyes almost bulged out if it’s socket.
