It’s early on a monday sunny morning, the light from the sun seems to pene-tratethrou-gh the window.
With the light rays shining on Claribel,she doesn’t seem to wake up.
Suddenly,her room window open and someone jumps into her room.
Shannon,Claribel’s best friend sighed in frustration as she saw Claribel slee-ping like a log of wood.
“I told her not to deprive herself from sleep at night but she never listens”Shannon muttered to herself.
She jumps on the be-d,then shakes Claribel vigorously but instead of waking up,Claribel bec@m£ more comfortable in the be-d.
“Are you kidding me right now?”
“Claribel,wake the fv¢k up”
“We are going to be late for school”
Everything went on deaf ears.
“OMG,we have a maths test today”Shannon said and Claribel sprang from the be-d.
“What test?why didn’t i know about it?”Claribel asked.
“There’s no test,i said that so that you would stand up”
“Oh, Shannon, don’t do that next time,you know how much i..
“Yeah,yeah,how much you love tests,you are such a nerd,now come on, get re-ady or we will be late for school”
“Wait..how did you get in here without my dad noticing?”
“I snuck in throu-gh the window”
“Shannon, don’t do that next time,you could have hurt yourself”
“Oh, plea-se,you sound like my mom,it wasn’t even that high”
“You are unbelievable”
Claribel stood up from the be-d and headed to the bathroom with a towel in her hand.

Last night was a train wreck,my dad c@m£ home in his normal state.
I opened up the shower, immediately the water hit me,i felr a tingling s-en-sation on my shoulder.
I looked at it and i saw an open wound,it was from last night.
I endured the pain and let the watee hit my skin.
I was in the bathroom for so minutes,my mind going throu-gh some thoughts.
“Are you slee-ping in there?”Shannon asked from outside.
She has always been a drama queen.
“Coming” I said as i turned off the shower.
I step out with a towel around my b©dy.
“You took forever in there”
“Shannon,i was only there for like a few minutes”
“Yeah,well,you….wait, what’s that on your shoulder?”
She stood up from the be-d and moved closer to me,i tried to cover the wound but she quic-kly held my hand.
“My goodness,Clary, what is this?”
“It’s nothing,i will attend to it”
“What do you mean by “it’s nothing”..this is a fresh wound,did he do this to you?”She asked and i nodded affrimatively.
“Claribel,this can’t go on for long,you have to stand up to him”
“He is my father”
“So you are going to let him keep on beating you up when he feels like it?”
“Remember,he has been the one taking care of me”
“How?in what way?He doesn’t give you money for food or to take care of yourself,if not for your scholarsh!p,i don’t know how you will be coping with school fees”
“I have a job, Shannon and the pay is good”
“Working as a waitress in a fancy restaurant late at night isn’t good for you”
“I work for my own money,i don’t want to be like other girls in school who sleep with guys for money,i won’t suc¢v-mb to that”
“I know,Clary,you should know that you are one strong girl”
“Thanks,now i nee-d to put on my clothes”
“Aren’t you going to put b©dy lotion on?”
“No,we don’t have time”
“Clary, it’s amazing how your skin still glows,no wonder other girls envy you”

“We are here”Shannon said as she parked her car in front of the school.
I haven’t been able to buy my own car so Shannon takes me wherever i want to go, it’s not like i go out.
“Let’s go or we will miss first period” Shannon said as we both got down from the car.
Forcados high, the only place that people see me differently, they don’t pity me.
Am a totally different person here.
I was pu-ll-ed out of my thoughts as i felt Shannon’s hand drag me towards the entrance.
As we got in,we received many high-fives from students and so many lvstful looks from guys.
It’s always like this everyday, Shannon and I happen to be the most popular girl in school.
I really don’t even know how that happened but i think it was when i helped Dylan win a maths contest.
Speaking of Dylan,he c@m£ towards me and gave me a surprise k!sson the cheek.
He and i look like we are d@t!ngbut he hasn’t asked me out yet and am not even sure of my feelings for him.
“Hey,babe, you look gorgeous this morning” he said and i giggled.
“Thanks”
He took my hands in his and intertwined together, People start looking at us,i was getting deadly glares from girls.
We were both going to clas-s when Dylan bu-mped into a guy witg glas-ses.
“Are you blind or what?”Dylan yelled at him.
Did I forget to mention that Dylan is a spoilt br@t?
His parents own half of our school so he thinks he can do anything.
“Am..am sorry”
The boy glas-ses fell so he was trying to look for it.
“Where is my glas-ses? I can’t see without them”
Dylan and i saw the glas-ses on the floor,Dylan sm-irked and tried to step on his glas-ses.
“Dylan,No” I said st©pping him from crushing the glas-ses.
“Why?”
“It’s not nice, seriously,he can’t see with it, let’s just give it to him”
“Okay, whatever,you do that while i go to clas-s”
He walked away,i bend down and picked up the glas-ses then gave it to the boy to wear.
“Thank you”
“It’s not a problem”
“You are not like them,you are nicer”
“Thanks but i have to go”
Clas-ses went by smoothly,now it waa time for lunch.
I went to the cafeteria with Dylan since Shannon had something to do.
We sat at the popular table,where basketball team mates seat,the cheerleaders.
They were either eating or k!ss!ngeach other.
“Sorry,am late”Shannon said as she sat doenu beside me.
“No problem, let’s just eat,am hungry”
Shannon was about to say something when he walked in.
Every girl started giggling,well except for i and Shannon.
He sat down in front of i and Shannon along side his friend,Isaac.
Adrian Coleman,he just moved to our school last two weeks and the girls were alre-ady crazy about him.
He was in the basketball team with Dylan and alre-ady p@rt of the popular kids.
He had a hair color like the sand at the beach, almost white and de-ep blue eyes, with a really pinkl-ip.
He also had a thick British accent,i guessed he is from London.
He bonded well with Isaac,they seem to be so close.
Audbrey,one of the cheerleaders quic-kly ran to sit beside Adrian,she wra-pped her arms around him but he re-moved it.
I wanted to laugh but I don’t want any drama from Audbrey.
“So how are you doing,babe?” Isaac asked Shannon,who only rolled her eyes.
“Your pla-yboy lines won’t work on me,Isaac”
“It will, very soon”
“Adrian,how are you doing?”Shannon asked.
“Am good”
He ha-rd ly talks but when he does you would wish he never st©pped.
“Two weeks in the school and you are alre-ady t©ping the clas-s,Claribel might have a competition”
“I don’t see her as a competition”He said and i scoffed.
“So you think you can beat me in clas-s?”
“I don’t think,i know”
How rude of him.
“Okay,enough of studying,who is going to Alex’s birthday p@rty tonight?”Dylan asked.
Everyone started say yes to the p@rty,if you are a popular kid,you have to go to p@rties.
“What about you, babe?”Dylan asked me.
“I don’t think I can come”
“Why?”
“I have other things to do”
“Clary, just come,it will be fun” Shannon said and i sighed in defeat.
“Okay, fine”
“And Adrian, are you coming?”
“Sure”He replied while looking at me

💖 Claribel 💖
If it wasn’t for the fact that Shannon begged me to come to the p@rty, I would have never agreed.
After school, Shannon drove me home reminding me to come over to her house for our make up.
I walked towards my front door,i sighed in frustration.
Am literally so scared of entering my own house, the same house that I would love to enter when i was little.
Now i would prefer to stay in school than come home.
I finally gathered the courage to open the door,the first thing i saw were bottles of beer everywhere,with cigarettes.
My dad was faced down on the floor,he probably pas-sed out because of the excess drinking and smoking.
I dropped my school bag on the floor,then started cleaning up the mess.
I did it so quietly,i didn’t want to wake him up,if he wakes up it just means more pain for me and i don’t want that.
I succeeded in cleaning up without waking him up,i took my bag and went to my room.
When i follow Shannon to her house, her mom welcomes her home with a k!ss,i am welcomed with the sight of my dad’s bad habits.
I have learnt to accept the fact that not everyone in this life deserves love and am one of them.
After taking a nice shower,i went straight to my re-ading desk,i took out my headphones and a novel.
re-ading and Music,my two favorite things to do, it’s makes me forget, it’s like my drugs.

Few hours later.
“Okay, okay, Shannon,i will be there” I said over the phone.
She won’t st©p calling me,i took my purse then walked out of my room.
I met face to face with my dad,oh,no.
He looked at me from head to toe,i was so nervous.
“And where are you going?”
“Shannon invited me over,we have a test tomorrow”I replied hoping he won’t notice my nervousness.
“Okay,i nee-d a favor”
“What is it?”
“I nee-d money,my beers are out”
I didn’t dare argue with him or it will be hell.
I brou-ght out some money from my purse and gave it to him.
“Nice,at least you are better than your useless mother who abandoned you”
He walked away,i tried not to think about what he said.

“Clary!!”Shannon’s mom said happily as she opened the door.
She hvgged me and gave me a k!sson the forehead, something am not used to.
“Good evening, Aunt”
I walked in and Micheal, Shannon’s elder brother saw me.
“Hey, little one”He said happily while i just rolled my eyes.
“Am starting to think you don’t know my name since you call me little one all the time” I said and he chuckled.
He held out my hand and was staring at something.
It was a scar from the past beating my dad gave me.
“You can’t continue like this,Clary”Micheal said and i sighed
“I have to, until i can stand on my own”
“Clary,he is going to kill you one day,let me help you”
“No,we both know what happened when you would help me”
Micheal always used tl defend me but got beaten up badly by my dad so i told him not to help me.
“I’ll be fine”
I walked over to Shannon’s room to get re-ady for the p@rty.

“You excited about the p@rty?”Shannon asked as we st©pped right in front of Alex’s house.
“Not really”
“Oh, come on, don’t be a p@rty pooper”.
We got in and it was like every high school p@rty.
Alcohol, k!ssing, smoking,some even pop pills.
Shannon was dragged away by Isaac,while i felt a hand on my w@!st.
“Dylan”i called out while he just sm-irked,his eyes were going over my b©dy,he smelt of alcohol.
“You look so S-xy”
“Thanks”
He pu-ll-ed me closer from the w@!st amd tried to k!ssme but i declined.
“What’s wrong?’He asked grousely.
“I nee-d to use the bathroom,you go amd dance,i will come meet you”
He nodded and walked away,i gave a hvge sigh of relief.
Suddenly, someone pushed me away slightly with an elbow.
“A simple ‘hey’ would be nice instead of pushing me away”
“I wasn’t trying to talk to you,i pushed you because you were blocking the table for soda”He said in his British accent.
“Yeah, right, such lame excuse”
“Look here, little Americana, don’t flatter yourself by thinking i want to talk to you”
“Then why are you talking to me right now?”
“That’s a good question, that’s why am walking away now,nerd”
He just called me a nerd, only Shannon calls me that.
I took a soda bottle and drank from it, Shannon appeared out of nowhere.
“Clary, let’s go, they are pla-ying truth and dare upstairs”
Before i could reply,she dragged me along with her.
We finally got to the room,only popular kids were allowed in.
Dylan was alre-ady seated,i sat next to him, Shannon sat beside Isaac.
“Okay, welcome to the most amazing truth or dare in history”Alex,the celebr@nt said and everyone cheered.
“No one can back out,no one”
“Let’s start alre-ady”
The game started quite funny as Dylan was asked to dance in his bo-xers.
Audbrey was asked to re-move her br@ and put it on her head.
Alex had to tell the girl he was trying to get that be was g@y.
“Claribel, it’s your turn”
“Yeah, Shannon gets to ask you a question”
“Okay” i said staring at Shannon.
“Truth or Dare”
“Dare” i blurted out,oh why did i just say dare?
Shannon will tell me to do the impossible, she alre-ady had that stupid sm-irk on.
“I dare you to k!ss.. Adrian”She said and Everyone in the room g@sps in shock.
“What?”Adrian asked clearly not liking the idea,same with me.
“Yes,she has to k!ssyou”
“k!sshim”People started chanting,we looked at each other.
He had this arrogant face on.
“Do it alre-ady, I know you want to”He said with pride.
I moved closer to him,he started leaning forward.
I pushed him away slightly, that surprised him.
“Am done pla-ying this game” i said staring at him, everyone g@sps in shock.
Adrian’s face was that of confusion and surprise,i guess he has never been rejected.
I walked out of the room and went downstairs.
I can’t let him take my first k!ss..yes,i said it,i have never k!$$£d a guy,i don’t have the time to.
It’s always been school and work for me,no relationsh!ps.
It’s been a while since i left the truth nad dare game,i talked to some few people before i decided it was time to go home.
I searched everywhere for Shannon,i finally saw her.. k!ss!ngIsaac,i didn’t know if i should go separate them but it seems she’s really enjoying the k!ss.
I went over to the back of the house where practically no one stayed.
I sat down on the pavement and looked at the stars.
I remember when my mom would take me out at night to show me the stars and she would tell me that am as beautiful as the stars.
Something disturbe-d my thoughts,it was the sound of someone coughing seriously.
I followed the sound and i saw a figure in the darkness,it was a guy,he coughing so ha-rd .
I ran towards him, that’s when i noticed it was Adrian,he was coughing out blood.
“Oh my goodness,are you okay?” I asked but he was trying to walk away from me.
“Let me help you,tell me what to do”
He only pushed me away despite the fact that he was coughing out from the blood.
He walked away witg a little strength and entered his car that wasn’t too far, then zoomed off.
Why was he coughing out blood?
And why was he re-sisting my help?
