?Chapter Two <2>?

Subtitle: [Interrogation]

“Where were you doing the time of your sister murder?” Gina asked the young lady who has being since she got to the police station for questioning.

She looked so much like the victim. Her full brown eyes were dark and she had eye bags und-erneath her eyes. it was quite obvious that she hadn’t slept since they found her sister dead.

But there was a problem….She looked scared. Scared about revealing something.

She didn’t answer Gina, she just kept on sobbing silently as she kept bit-ing her lower li-ps and shaking her legs. Her hands were folded on her lap, Gina wouldn’t be surprise that they were also shaking, uncontrollably. And yeah, she was right.

“Listen, I know you are still in shock over your sister’s death. I know it is kind of…no, it is really ha-rd to lose a love one, but you need to help us here, we need to know where were you the time of your sister’s murder. We aren’t….”

“You are suspecting me of killing my sister, right?” The girl finally spoke, cutting Gina off. She was staring at Gina dead in the eyes. No, actually, she was glaring.

Gina was a bit taken aback by that question because it took her a while before she could give a reasonable reply to it.

“Of course not. We just want to know. We…”

“Shouldn’t your work be to capture criminals…like the one who had just killed my sister? Shouldn’t you be out there looking for that motherfu-cker, instead of questioning the wrong person?” She cuts Gina off. Again. “My sister was found fu-cking dead in her apartment. And here you are asking me a damn fu-cking question. Are you guys even competent enough?”

Gina clears her throat. This girl had just insulted her but why wasn’t she mad about it? Okay, she was just trying to be nice here. Like seriously, the girl had just lost someone dear to her. But why was she dodging the question about where she was at that time?

Okay, no one knows. And that is what she needs to find out.

“Look, I know you are… frustrated about this whole situation. But that doesn’t give you any right to insult or question the cops. Our job is to capture criminals and lock them away from the citizens. We are doing this….”

“Doing this for who?!” She yelled, cutting Gina mid sentence. Again. “My sister was found DEAD! In her apartment and here you are telling me shit! That killer is out there, walking freely and yet no police is doing anything to capture them.” She paused as she tried to control her tears. “I…I wanted to apologize to her. I wanted to tell her how sorry I was. I wanted everything to come back to normal. But look, in a twinkle of an eye, she is gone. Gone for good. Forever. And here you are, telling me crap.”

Gina had had enough. She was doing her job here. Shouldn’t she be the one to interrogate the this girl? So why does it look like she was being interrogated by the girl instead.

“Listen, miss Alma! You need to cooperate with us here. You need to work with us if you want your sister murderer to be arrested. We aren’t suspecting…Okay, yeah. Maybe you are part of our suspect. But the least you can do, is to start talking, or better still clear your name. Or provide us with some information first!” Gina said. And she was thankfully that she wasn’t interrupted again.

Alma just kept mute as she stared at Gina for while. She cleared her throat and looked at everywhere but Gina’s face. Or probably her eyes. She was holding something very important. Something that could be useful in locating this murderer.

Gina had suspected the visitor to be the the victim’s boyfriend and she had asked Zoe to take some cops to the guy’s house. And bring down to the station for some Interrogation as well.

The killer could be anybody and that was a fact. Even this girl who keeps crying in front of her and also interrogated her, could be the murderer. But then, here was the thing, what if, the killer wasn’t the person who had visited her? Because according to the autopsy, she was poisoned last night. That means….

The killer had visited her last night.

“I had some kind of clash with her last night after she found out…no, after I told her about the sins of both her boyfriend and I…” Alma began to talk. Gina let out a sigh of relief, inwardly. She has finally gotten into the girl. “I was a bad sister. Bianca…” She bit her lower li-ps har-der as soon as she mentioned her sister’s name. It was ha-rd for her to speak. She was damn hurt over everything. Over her sister’s death. “….She wasn’t just my sister. She was my best friend! She was more like my diary. I tell her almost everything but then, I went ahead to be fu-cking her boyfriend behind her back.” She sniffed.

“I wanted to stop. I knew I was doing something very wrong. But Connor didn’t make it any easier for me as he kept coming to my apartment to fu-ckme. And me on the other hand, I…I couldn’t stop him. But then, the guilt began to choke me. It was killing me. It was drowning me. So I told her everything.” She sighed as she sniffed again. “I really don’t know what happened but I know one thing for a fact, Connor might have killed my sister! She had went to his apartment as soon as I told her everything. I wouldn’t be surprise if she had broke up with him. Anything could have happened. But I still suspect that prick of killing my sister!” Alma said and continued sobbing again.

Gina sighed, getting frustrated over the whole situation. This was her field. She loves her job so much. Capturing murderers was what she enjoyed most in this field but right now….she was frustrated to the call. She felt like pulling out her hair. But she couldn’t. she loves her hair, okay?

She stared at the sobbing Alma for a while. Yeah, maybe half of the story Alma has told her was true. But that doesn’t still change a thing about suspecting her.

“Did you love Connor?” Alma was a bit taken aback by that question as she snapped her eyes up to look at Gina, wide eyes. “Answer me, did you love him?”

“And what kind of a question is that? fu-cking him doesn’t represent love, does it?”

“That means, you only just fu-ckhim only for fun and nothing else. Am I right?” Alma didn’t say anything. “You need to answer me, Miss Alma. You can’t keep dodging questions concerning you.”

“Yes! I had loved him. I mean, I was the first person to know him. He was my best friend! But then, I decided to introduce him to my sister and boom! They started dating. I didn’t even know. They didn’t tell me until i walked in on them suc-king each other’s face. I was hurt! I was sad. I loved this guy in question. But I love my sister more. So I decided to forget him and move on but I couldn’t. I couldn’t, okay?”

Finally! She had said exactly what could help Gina in capturing this murderer.

“did your sister know about your feelings for her boyfriend?”

“How am I suppose to tell her that? Even Connor doesn’t know about my tiny….or my huge feelings for him. I kept it away from them.” She said, looking down at her fingers on her lap.

“Do you think Connor loved your sister?”

Alma didn’t say a word for a while. After a while, she shrugged her shoulders before saying. “i don’t know. but whenever we were on my bed, fu-cking. He always….”

“Call her name. And after you guys are done, he talks about her, right?” She nods her head not looking up. “That means he loved her. So why do you suspect him about killing your sister?”

“They fu-cking had a huge fight after she had gone to his apartment. She broke up with him!” Alma yelled in anger.

“Did your sister tell you about her break up with her boyfriend?”

“and why will she tell me that? She wasn’t fu-cking telling me anything. She was mad at me!”

“that means, Connor told you about the break up.”

“no. He didn’t. We didn’t say shit to each other as soon as I told her everything. In fact I had deleted his number from my phone.”

“Wait. Then if none of them told you about the break up….how come did you know of it?”

Alma cleared up her throat. She adjusted on her seat and looked down at her lap again.

“You were around the vicinity. You followed your sister from behind without she knowing. Right?”

“i want to go home.” Alma said after a long silence.

“You wanted your sister to break up with him. Hold on a sec, you didn’t tell your sister those things because you wanted to free the guilt away… you told her because you wanted to break them off, right?”

Alma looked up from her lap to Gina. She was shooting daggers at the poor cop. She pushed her chair backwards as she got up to her feet. “I want to go home. “She repeated again.

****

“Arrrgh. My head aches.” Gina groa-ned as she slumped down on the couch. She had finally gotten back home to her apartment. Today was such a long day for her.

After Alma had left the station. Zoe had returned to the station without Connor. He had promised to come tomorrow for the Interrogation. But they made sure to leave some cops around the vicinity.

“Here,” Zoe said as she handed Gina a cup of hot coffee. Gina smiled at her and collected the cup from her. Zoe sat down beside Gina and dropped the suitcase down. Whenever they were having a case like this, they would have sleepover in each house. Today might be in Gina’s apartment while the next day, would be in Zoe’s apartment. It depends.

“How did the Interrogation went?” Zoe asked as she sipped at her coffee.

Gina shrugged. “Complicated. That girl wouldn’t talk. Can you believe she even started questioning our job? That girl is so frustrating.”

“So she didn’t say anything?”

“She did.” Gina told her about everything she had discussed with Alma. Zoe told everything in and sighed as soon as Gina was told talking.

“Do you think she killed her sister?” She finally asked after a long silence.

Gina shrugged. “I wouldn’t be surprise if she did. I mean, she had a motive but Connor? What could have been his motive?”

“That means she wanted him for herself? Tsk, that is lame. Like very lame.” Zoe said, rolling her eyes.

“Hey, some girls kill to have a man to themselves. Nothing is impossible.”

“Yeah. But then, after our Interrogation with….”

“I will have to interrogate that girl again.” Gina said cutting Zoe off.

“You should have just let me finish my sentence first.” She pointed out.

“I was cut off like that. Countless times during the Interrogation.”

Just then, they heard a knock on the door. Zoe groa-ned before getting up to her feet to get the door. She opened the door as soon as she saw who it was thought the peephole. Five girls came into sight. They were grinning like some idiot. No offence taken.

“Hey girls.” Gina said drily as she waved her hand, tiredly.

“Are you okay?” One of the girls, whose name was Maddie asked. She wasn’t a detective. But she was doing well. She had a comfortable job and work as a banker. She wasn’t the reserve type. She talks a lot and yet act as a mother and funny enough, she was no way near becoming one. Why? She was a lesbian. And she doesn’t even want a child of her own. She intends on adopting while she live her life in fu-cking those girls that steals two glance from her. But thankfully, she had six friends who takes her and love her for who she is regardless of what she is.

“Just tired.” Gina said. The girls had taken some sp-ot on the couch.

“Had a murder case?” Another girl asked whose name was Olive asked. She was a doctor. She was earning more than enough. She wears gla-sses and was the softest of them all. She was pretty, calm and shy. She hardly talks but when you get to know her, she acts crazy and she is so going to capture your heart without you knowing it. She loves cooking for her girls but too bad, she has no boy in her life to eat her food. Tsk. But hey, there are good news….her girls are there to eat her food.

“Yeah.” Zoe answered this time around. “But what are you guys doing here?” She now asked.

“We all haven’t had a sleepover for like two years?” Maddie stated.

The others rolled their eyes. “For like two days.” Phoebe said. She was a businesswoman who works for a very big company. She was also a single mother. She had lived a way world life and had ended up becoming a single mother. But she loves her child. Her daughter, Elsa. Elsa was the love of her life. Not just her life but also the love of her girls life. They were all a godmother to Elsa. Come on, Elsa was the only child in the squad, she is bound to have a life full of love and care. She (Elsa) was just four years old.

“Will you blame me? I can’t get enough of my girls.” Maddie said and they all laughed over that.

“But I don’t think this sleepover is going to take place. I mean, take a look at Gina. She is forcing herself to be awake.” Alicia said. She was a counsellor. A marriage counselor. But the irony of this matter was, she hasn’t being into a marriage herself. But who cares? At least she is good at her job. She earn enough from the job. She was one of the best in the country. Everyone knows about her and she has fixed a lot of marriages out there. Most of her clients are top politicians.

“Nah. I’m very much awake.” Gina said as she sat upright on her seat.

Olive rolled her eyes over Gina’s stupidity. “Go to bed or you won’t be able to wake up early tomorrow for work. Listen, guys we don’t need to have fun before it can be called sleepover. We just need to sleep in one bed till the next morning and then, it would be called a sleepover.”

“You have a point there!” Doris said, smiling. Doris, the last but not the least. She was a matchmaker. A respectable one at that. She loves her job and also earn enough with it. She has a boyfriend. And that’s a good news because she was the only one who has a boyfriend out of them all. But hello? what do you expect from a matchmaker? She had met him in one of the matchmaking process. It had all happened like a movie. But she enjoys be around them. They had fun with each other. They obviously loved each other but no one could take the sp-ot of her girls.

They were all best of friends since high school. They were each other backbone and they loved each other so much.

“That would be so boring.” Maddie whined, dramatically. “Okay, how about we just watch a movie. Just one.” She pleaded.

“One movie won’t cause any harm. Right?” Gina said.

****

“ I will choose the movie.” Olive said, smiling.

“sure. but we don’t want any genre about doctors.” Maddie warned.

Olive rolled her eyes. “yea, yea.”

She had picked a romantic movie. Their eyes were glued to the movie as they watch as they two lovers make love.

After a while. they started hearing a soft breathing. Their heads snapped to Gina, thinking she was the one already asleep but to their surprise she was very much awake. Their gaze suddenly move to Sleeping Maddie, who was curled up against Zoe.

“Yay! What a wonderful sleepover. I’m sure having fun right now.” Olive said sarcastically.

“I think we should sleep now. Our mom as finally fallen asleep.” Doris said. They all laughed.

They all lay down on the floor while Olive quickly went over to get blanket. They used the blanket to cover their bodies and also use it to cover Maddie before they all slept off.

****

The next day, Olive was the first to wake up. She quickly took her bath and wore the dress she had brou-ght. She walked into the kitchen and started making breakfast for them. She was to resume work by 12noon so she still had enough time to waste.

“Hmm….that smells delicious.” Gina said as she walked into the kitchen. already dressed for work. “what are we having for breakfast?”

“Toast bread and hot tea. Good morning.”

“ha. forgive my manners. The smell of the delicious meal made me forget to greet. Good morning.” They both laughed.

“What kind of murder case was it?” She now asked after a while.

“A normal one. Or should I say an abnormal one? I don’t know but it’s quite complicated.”

“Here.” Olive handed her a cup of hot tea. “I know you can do this. Fighting!!!”

Gina chuckled. “I hope so. Because I can’t seem to be anywhere close into capturing this murderer. U really don’t want to make a great mistake by capturing the wrong one.”

Olive nods her head in und-erstanding. “you just need to be optimistic, Gina. you are the girl always like that, so you can’t stop now.”

“Wait. Are you the counselor or Alicia?”

Olive rolled her eyes. “She is a marriage counselor, dummy. Not a therapist or a motivational speaker.”

“Dang it. I deserve that insult.” They laughed again. Gina sipped from the cup and sighed. “I really don’t know what to do, Olive.”

Olive walked closer to her and wrapped her arms around Gina. “You can do this. You just have to do one thing….” She smiled. “think like the criminal.” TBC.
