-CHAPTER 23-

‘’Lee!’’ A loud voice calls out to him and he awakes with a start, alarmed and almost frightened.
‘’Lee!’’ He hears the voice again, this time louder while looking around. I look around to see my wife who is fast asleep. After I had that talk with Daddy P I didn’t go out as I had planned, I went back into the house and sle-pt. I have been slee-ping since then.
‘’Love of my life, husband of my youth, Lee come to me,’’ I hear the voice again, frightened, I look around me.
‘’Who are you and what do you want?’’ he yells.
‘’Come to me my love, come to me! You are mine Lee, all mine.’’
‘’Lee!’’ Kristian says sleepily. ‘’What are you doing?’’
He turns and stares at Kristian as confusion fills my mind.
‘’Lee! Come to me my love! You are mine!’’ The loud voice continues running throu-gh my mind.
Anxious, I quic-kly get dressed, put on my shoes and gr-ab my car keys.
‘’Lee, where are you going? It’s midnight,’’ she says but I ignore her and head out of the house.
Getting into my car, I quic-kly drive off following the sound of the voices that keep ringing in my head.
My heart is beating fast & I am anxious to get to where the voice is coming from.

I lie in a be-d for a few minutes wondering what has just happened then gathering my strength, I get out of be-d and tie it around the middle then sl!pmy feet into my sleepers and head downstairs, gr-abbing a glas-s of water, I sit on the couch and start dialing Lee’s number and it goes unanswered. ‘’Where in God’s name is he even going this time? Could he be cheating on me? What sort of behavior is this? I swear I am tired. I don’t think I can handle any of this drama. Lee should leave if he is tired of us.
‘’Kristian!’’ Jada says startling me from my reverie. Jada decided to sleep over tonight.
‘’Hey!’’ I look up at her, I was in de-ep thoughts. I didn’t hear her come out of her room.
‘’Are you feeling okay? Do you nee-d something? Why didn’t you call me when you walk up?’’
‘’I am feeling fine, I even managed to get down the stairs by myself.’’
‘’That’s good news, you don’t look fine though.’’
‘’Lee has left the house.’’
‘’At this time of the night? Where has he gone?’’
‘’He just got out of be-d, started getting dressed and left. He was acting really strange, it’s like he was seeing or hearing things. I have tried to call him but he is not picking up, I am really worried about him, I don’t know what’s happening but I have this sinking feeling at the pit of my stomach that something is wrong somewhere.’’
‘’Let us pray!’’ Jada says.
‘’Pray?’’ I shoot her a quizzical look, Jada is not so much into prayers.
She laughs, ‘’I watched a bit of war room and I learnt a thing or two.’’
‘’You think prayer will sort this out?’’
‘’Prayer will give you some peace of mind.’’
‘’Okay, you lead us then.’’
‘’Sure,’’ she responds before we hold hands.

I am driving when my phone rings, I ignore the calls before putting the phone on silent. I can’t think straight, I just nee-d to get to my destination. I continue to let my mind wander and continue driving until I come to a turnoff several miles away from my house. And then suddenly, I hear some voices call my name again, the voices sound high pitched and rou-gh, it terrifies me and all of a sudden I lose control of the car, it crashes into a tree, the front tire bur-sts into a loud sound and my head pounds.

Jada and I have just finished praying when my phone rings, I stare at the screen hoping its Lee but there’s a strange number calling, wondering who could be calling me at this time of the night, I answer the phone and the caller asks, ‘’Hello, Mrs. Mumbi?’’
‘’Yes, who am I speaking to?’’
She hesitates for a second before she says, ‘’I am sorry madam but your husband Mr. Mumbi has been involved in an accident. He is being taken to University Teaching Hospital, you nee-d to nee-d to get there as quic-kly as possible.’’
‘’What?’’ I begin to tremble and shake as tears begin to run down my face.
‘’Is he alright?’’
‘’I am sorry I can’t answer that you come to the hospital.’’
‘’Okay.’’
‘’Is everything okay?’’ Jada asks when I end the call.
‘’There’s a possibility that my husband is dead.’’
‘’What do you mean?’’
‘’Lee was involved in an accident, I nee-d to go to the hospital.’’
‘’You can’t go to the hospital in your condition, let me go there and I will–.’’
‘’I want to see my husband Jada, I want to see him,’’ I say, weeping uncontrollably.
‘’I will take you to the hospital but you nee-d to calm down.’’
‘’plea-se.’’
She gets the car keys and helps me out of the house. My heart is racing so fast, my stomach is twisting in knots and I have suddenly developed a headache. I think I am going to be sick.
‘’Breath in and out Kristian, don’t over think I am sure Lee is okay.’’
‘’I am scared.’’
‘Don’t be.’’
On the way to the hospital, I manage to call mum and Robert to inform them of what has happened, I also call daddy P and Palesa, they all promise to meet us at the hospital.

-CHAPTER 24-
When we arrive at the hospital, we meet mummy and Robert in the parking lot.
Mum looks at me with compas-sion before she pu-lls me into her arms, I s-en-se the tearing as well as the measure of fear.
‘Is he dead mummy? Is my husband dead?’’ I ask swallowing ha-rd , not sure I want to hear her response.
‘’I think he is okay, let’s go in there and check.’’
‘’I am so scared!’’
‘’Everything will be okay child,’’ Robert holds my hand and we head towards the entrance.
We enter the hospital, the strong smell of the medicine hits me, the smell is so bad I start to throw up, I heave on the floor until my stomach which didn’t contain much to begin with gets empty. Then I dry heave for a couple of minutes, by the time my stomach settles, I feel weak and I can ba-rely stand, when I start to sl!pdown my b©dy, Mum and Robert hold me.
‘’I knew this was a bad idea, you should have stayed home,’’ Jada worriedly says.
‘’I will be fine Jada, don’t worry about me let’s try and find out how my husband is doing.’’
‘’You can’t even stand on your own, I think we should get you a be-d and have some fluids administered into your b©dy.’’
‘’Can we see Lee first?’’
‘’I think Jada is right, your face is slowly becoming pale, do this for the child in your wo-mb,’’ mum pleads.
‘’I will check on Lee and make sure he is fine while the doctor attends to you,’’ Robert says.
‘’Fine,’’ I am so worried about Lee but I also have a mand@t£ to keep the child in my wo-mb alive.
Jada finds the doctor and explains my situation then I am led to a pri-vate hospital room then they help me settle in the be-d. Within a few minutes, I am lying on my back against the white sheets of the hospital be-d and I have an IV dr!pp£din my arm.
‘’You should calm down and try to get some rest,’’ the doctor advised.
I shoot her a serious look and shake my head. How does she expect me to be calm when I don’t even know if my husband is alive or not? I don’t think I will be able to relax until I talk to Lee and confirm that he is okay.
‘’I will make sure she gets some rest,’’ mum as-sures the doctor before she leaves.
We wait a couple of more minutes before Robert walks into the room.
‘’How is my husband?’’
He hesitates before he says, ‘’your husband is alive but he suffered severe internal injuries from the accident. The doctor said he is stable for now but he’s had a difficult time. He had some broken ribs and a punctured lung which they have repaired. He also sustained a head injury.’’
‘’Is he going to be okay?’’
‘’He is hanging in there, that’s a good sign.’’
‘’What is that supposed to mean Robert? Will Lee be okay or not?’’
‘’The doctor said the next twenty four hours will be critical so we nee-d to be re-ady for anything.’’
My heart races as I try to absorb what he has just said.
‘’What are you trying to say?’’
‘’If he makes it throu-gh the night then he will be okay.’’
‘’So there’s a possibility he might die during the night?’’ I ask, staring at him intently, tears falling from my eyes.
‘’For now we just have to wait, Lee is a fighter, he will pu-ll throu-gh.’’
‘’How do I raise two babies alone? How do I even handle being a widow at this age? I have gone throu-gh so much alre-ady. Is there even light at the end of my tunnel? Who did I offend? Why do things keep moving from bad to worse for me? Why did Lee have to leave the house at that time of the night and where was he even rushing too?’’
‘’Hey, don’t be too ha-rd on yourself,’’ Jada murmurs, ru-bbing a soothing hand over my back.
‘’I am just so tired Jada, look at how perfect your life is.’’
‘’My life is far from being perfect sweetheart, there is so much Abel and I go throu-gh but we don’t give up. We keep pushing.’’
‘’Kristian! Kristian! Kristian!’’
‘’Mum?’’
‘’How many times have I called you?’’
‘’Three.’’
‘’Listen to me and listen real good, you are not giving up, I will not allow you too. I raised a strong girl, you can’t allow the trials of this world to have the last laugh, you have to keep pushing until you emerge victorious.’’
‘’It’s so ha-rd mummy.’’
‘’And no one said it would be easy, this too shall come to pas-s child.’’
‘’Thank you.’’
Robert wipes my face with the palm of his hand, ‘’this is not the time to cry sweetheart, save your strength for prayer. At this point only God can heal Lee completely and we will turn to him.’’
‘’Okay,’’ I nod my head.

I must have fallen asleep on the couch while waiting for Lee because when I open my eyes it’s past midnight and Lee is nowhere to be seen. Gogo told me, he would be here within a few minutes of me doing the ritual, why is he not here yet? Did I do everything the right way or should I try again? I think I will just try and call Lee. If this doesn’t work I nee-d to go back to gogo so she can give me something stronger but she said this works and gogo has never disappointed me.
Sitting up straight, I gr-ab my phone and dial Lee’s line, it rings once Kristian says hello- surprised I end the call. I will have to find a way to get to Lee without having to deal with Kristian.
