The next day, I am in be-d watching TV with the sound when a knock sounds on my be-droom door. I didn’t go for work today, I took a mother’s day. Caleb sle-pt at Mum’s place, I will pick him from school later in the day. I called Dante and told him to come over whenever he was free so we can talk. I have been thinking of the best way to break the news to him but so far nothing has come to my mind. I just hope he won’t hate me when I break up with him.
‘’Auntie Kristian!’’ my maid calls, startling me from my thoughts.
‘’Yes Stella!’’
‘’Uncle Dante is here to see you.’’
‘’Tell him to come up here.’’
‘’Okay.’’
A moment later, my be-droom door opens and Dante walks in.
‘’Babe!’’ he walks up to me and k!sses me.
‘’Hey, you,’’ I manage a smile.
‘’How are you?’’
‘’I am okay, you?’’
‘’I am fine, I missed you. How did your meeting go last night?’’
‘’It was perfect, how’s work?’’
‘’Work is okay, I brou-ght lunch.’’
‘’Thank you.’’
‘’Are you sure you are okay?’’
‘’Yes, why?’’
‘’You don’t look fine.’’
‘’I am okay, plea-se sit down we nee-d to talk.’’
‘’Okay.’’
I take a long de-ep slow breath and let it slowly getting myself re-ady.
‘’Babe, are you sure you are fine?’’
‘’Yes, I am it’s just that–.’’
‘’What?’’ he cuts me off before I can finish.
‘’I don’t think this is working.’’
‘’What are you saying?’’
‘’You know I love you Dante but I love Lee more and I have been thinking–.’’
His face flushes, ‘’you are breaking up with me?’’
‘’I can’t marry you knowing fully well that I am still in love with Lee, I am sorry Dante you are a good man and I tried my best to be the woman you have always wanted me to be but this isn’t working and I am tired of lying to myself.’’
‘’So you are dumping me?’’
‘’I think it’s for the best.’’
‘’After everything I have done for you Kristian? After all the sacrifices I have made for you, this is how you decide to repay me?’’
‘’I am sorry I–.’’
‘’The damage has been done, keep your sorry to yourself. I really thought you were different but you are just like them all. You are the worst mistake of my life Kristian,’’ he yells. ‘’Give me back my ring, give me back every damn thing I ever got you.’’
‘’Dante! Has it come to that?’’
‘’Hell yes.’’
I sl!pthe ring off my f!nger and hand it to him then he starts gr-abbing all the things he got me- shoes, some dresses, I help him pack those things including the ones he got for Caleb. This is a first for me, I never expected Dante to behave in this manner.
‘’fv¢k you! fv¢k you and Lee! I hope you both rot in hell,’’ and with that he leaves.
‘’Wow!’’ I exclaim wondering if everything he just did was necessary.
When I finally get composed, I call Lee and tell him what happened and he bur-sts into a fit of laughter.
‘’You mean he did that?’’
‘’Yes.’’
‘’He must be on drags or something.’’
‘’I would have expected Meira to behave like this not Dante.’’
‘’It’s like they have swapped roles.’’
‘’I know right.’’
‘’I have a meeting in five minutes, dinner at my place this evening, you me and Caleb?’’
‘’Caleb and I will love that.’’
‘’Sure.’’
‘’I love you.’’
‘’I love you too.’’
I the call and continue watching TV, the rest of the day pas-ses by so quic-kly and before I know it, I am standing in front of Caleb’s school waiting for him to come out. When the bell rings, I sp©t him and wave at him.
‘’Mummy! My mummy!’’ he screams so loudly as he run towards me.
I carry him in my arms, k!ss!nghim on the forehead, ‘’my baby, child of mine, I missed you.’’
‘’I missed you too mummy.’’
‘’How was school?’’
‘’Great!’’
‘’Learnt anything new today?’’
‘’We learnt about domestic animals.’’
‘’Really?’’
‘’Yes.’’
‘’What are those?’’ I ask as I buckle him up in his seat.
‘’Animals which we keep at home.’’
‘’Like?’’
‘’A dog!’’
‘’Good job.’’
‘’A cat!’’
‘’You are the smartest kid I know.’’
‘’We also learnt a song about animals.’’
‘’Let me hear it.’’
‘’I have a pet, he is dog and he says, woof! Woof! Woof! I have a cat and she says meow! Meow! Meow!’’ He sings the song adding different animals to the list until we pu-ll up in front of his father’s house.
‘’We are here to see daddy?’’ he excitedly asks almost jumping out of his seat.
‘’Be patient child,’’ as I unbuckle him from his seat. As soon as he is free, he hops out of the car and rushes for the door.
At the door, I take the key that Lee gave me from my bag and hand open the door, ‘’Dad is not even home but he will be coming soon.’’ We enter the house and I undress Caleb and give him his bath. Then I prepare something for him to eat and turn on the television before I start preparing supper. My cooking skills have improved greatly over the last couple of years.
I love to cook for Caleb hence I try by all means to learn how to prepare different dishes. I spend the next two hours cooking and by the time Lee’s car pu-lls up in the driveway I am done and the cooking and the table is set.

‘’Caleb! Daddy is home.’’
‘’Okay,’’ he excitedly exclaims rushing for the door as I walk right behind him so we can meet Lee at the door.
‘’My daddy! Daddy!’’ He screams when the door swings open revea-ling Lee on the other side.
‘’Wandi!’’ says Lee catching Caleb in his arms.
‘’I missed you daddy.’’
‘’And I missed you too, how was school?’’
‘’School was amazing, we learnt about domestic animals.’’
‘’That’s great, I can’t wait for you tell me all them when I am settled.’’
We walk into the living room and he places him on the couch then he turns to me, ‘’Hey baby girl.’’
‘’Hey babe,’’ I walk over to him and k!sshim.
‘’I could get used to this kind welcome you know.’’
‘’Just get used to it because Caleb and I are here to stay, we aren’t going anywhere this time around.’’
‘’That’s my baby.’’
‘’Food is re-ady, you go and freshen up so we can eat.’’
‘’Alright babe.’’
He heads to the be-droom and I join Caleb in the living room. He has his eyes fixed on the television again, Caleb is a cartoon lover- he can spend the whole day just eating and watching television. We wait for about thirty minutes before Lee emerges from the be-droom then we head to the dining room and start eating.
‘’Are we slee-ping here tonight daddy?’’ Caleb asks.
‘’Ask your mother.’’
‘’Mummy, can we sleep here tonight? plea-se mummy, plea-se.’’
I laugh, ‘’of course baby boy.’’
‘’Yes! I am slee-ping in daddy’s be-d tonight.’’
‘’You have your own room here, dad’s be-d is for me and him.’’
He frowns, ‘’daddy I want to sleep in your be-d.’’
‘’I said no,’’ I respond jokingly.
‘’Daddy!’’ He whines.
‘’Yes child, you can sleep in my be-d tonight.’’
‘’And mummy will sleep in her own room.’’
‘’Child this is my man, where he sleeps I sleep.’’
‘’How about we all sleep in my be-d,’’ Lee asks.
‘’Fair enough.’’
We finish eating then Lee pours some wine for the both of us while he gives Caleb ice cream.
‘’Caleb do you know what a family is?’’ Lee asks.
‘’Yes! Father, mother and children.’’
‘’Would you like us to become a family? You, me and mummy living here together?’’
‘’Yes! Yes!’’
‘’Your wish is my command child,’’ Lee replied before he stands up and gets down on one knee pu-lling out a small velvet box from his pocket. Fli-pping the box open, he holds it up to me and I blink at the sight of the diamond ring nestled inside.
‘’Babe!’’ My jaw drops.
‘’You don’t know how long I have wanted to do this over the last two years,’’ he begins….
‘’You have been mine for longer than either of us have known and this time around, I want to permanently make if official. No pact, no games, no rules just love and honesty. Kristian Msizi, in the pres£nce of our son, would you do me the honour of becoming my wife?’’
With tears running down my face I say, ‘’yes, I will marry you Lee Mumbi, I will marry you for real this time around, no pact, no games, no rules, just love and honesty.’’
He sli-ps the ring on my f!nger then he stands up and we k!sspas-sionately.
‘’Ill!’’ Caleb exclaims and we laugh as we pu-ll away from each other.
‘’We are going to be a family,’’ I tell Caleb k!ss!nghis forehead.
‘’I love you.’’
‘’I love you too.’’
Later that night after we have put Caleb to sleep, Lee and I are wra-pped around each other on the couch.
‘’Babe!’’
‘’Huh?’’
‘’When do you want us to get married?’’ he asks.
‘’Soon, even tomorrow.’’
He laughs, ‘’a day is not enough to plan a wedding.’’
‘’I don’t even want a wedding, we did that before why don’t we just head to court and get married.’’
‘’That’s what you want?’’
‘’Yes, we don’t even have to tell anyone, we can surprise them later with the marriage certificate.’’
‘’If that’s what you want then that’s what we will do.’’

‘’I gave you one job only and you messed up!’’ I yell pacing back and forth.
‘’I did what I could, you Msizi women are stubborn.’’
‘’So she is getting back with that good for nothing man?’’
‘’Yes, I am sure they are together as we speak, she said she wants them to raise their child together.’’
‘’You have let me down Dante.’’
‘’The plan was for me to marry her and ruin her life remember? I managed to keep them ap@rt for two years and I have been pushing her to marry me but you and I both know she has been giving excuses after excuses.’’
‘’fv¢k Kristian and Lee, fv¢k you for not being man enough to fight for her.’’
‘’Mind your language Kenzie, I did what I could and at this point I am done.’’
‘’What is that supposed to mean?’’
‘’I think let Kristian and Lee be together, they love each other.’’
‘’I can’t allow her to be happy, I can’t let her win.’’
‘’Then you will have to find someone else to help you because I am done.’’
‘’You can’t do this to me.’’
‘’I am sorry Kenzie but I am not doing this.’’
‘’Fine, I will find someone else that can do the job for me.’’
‘’Thank you, I think I should leave now.’’

‘’Yes.’’
