Chapter twenty two
Scarlet held her mum hands as she couldn’t st©p crying
“mum you have been diagnosed with kidney for six good years and you never told me about it ” scarlet cried
“worst still you kept stressing yourself out trying to make end means, you kept saying I should make you proud, how will I do that if you are gone mum ” scarlet muttered as her mother shed tears too
For the first time in her life she regrets going to college, she should have just stayed back in the little town they were and continue helping her mum at the grocery sto-re
Her life wouldn’t have been messed up if she didn’t go to college
“st©p thinking about this scarlet, all I want is for you to be happy and excel in all you do, even if I wouldn’t live to see you excel and proud of yourself, am sure I will be happy in the grave when I’m as-sured you are living the bountiful life you always dreamed of having ” her mum replied
“no mum, st©p saying that, you are going to lived and watched me be the lazy you always wanted, my dreams of living a bountiful life is for both of us not for me alone, so mum I won’t allow you die” she said meaning all those words
Her mum has suffered for her so much, and if giving her one of her kidneys will make her mum lived, then that’s what she will do
She hold her mums hands waiting for the test results, she alre-ady told the doctor to run a test on her to be sure she was suitable to transplant a kidney
“don’t worry mum, you will be fine” she stro-ked her hair
The door opened and Jeff walked in
“hello ma’am, how are you feeling ” Jeff asked as he tucked his hand in his p@n-ts pocket
Mrs hunters stared at him, trying to recall where she has seen that face
“Evan?? ” she called staring at him
Just hearing that name made Scarlett heart started racing
Evan, yes Evan!!
Evan was like a brother to her back in highschool and he always comes around to their grocery sto-re and always help them out
He was their hero, but after highschool he suddenly disappeared into thin air
“no mum this is jeff” she said and stared at Jeff for a long time and then was when she noticed
Jeff looks so much like Evan, but they were something missing, those oceanic blue eyes that Evan has
“Why did he look like Evan” she thought
“oh son don’t mind me ” Mrs hunter said
“it’s okay ma’am, I’m Jeff scarlet childhood friend ” he said and Mrs hunter nodded

Scarlet sat at the doctors office as he brings out the test results that was carried out,
Scarlet collected it and stared at it
“I don’t think you can donate a kidney for your mum, your other kidney is damaged and if you decide to give her the only functioning one, you will die” he explained
“we nee-d to look for another option ” he said and tears flow from her eyes
Even if they get a kidney, how will she pay for him
She stood up as her feet wo-bble
“thanks doctor ” she replied walking to the exit
She slowly closed the door and rested on it as she started sobbing
IN THE EVENING
Jeff walked out of the hospital going to buy food for Scarlett and her mum then he saw Max walking in, he hidden and watched in walked inside, he slowly followed him and saw him heading to the doctors office
Max stared at the doctor as he gave him the test results
“yes sir you are fit to donate a kidney ” the doctor replied
“wow!! Can we start today, I don’t want anything to happen to her mum” Max replied
He has been at the hospital two hours ago when he heard the news that Scarlett mum nee-ds a kidney transplant
“right away sir, and I must say you are such a nice person, rarely will you see someone like you exist and I know young hunter will be happy to finally heard that her mum has gotten a donor” he said
“plea-se doctor don’t tell her I’m the donor, let it remains a secret between us both, she’s mad at me right now and I don’t want her to feel she owes me something ” Max explained and the doctor nodded
“so shall we “the doctor said as he stood up so with Max as they walked out of the office heading to the operation room

Immediately Jeff heard their foot steps he hide and watched Max and the doctor walked out
He hit fist on the wall and gro-an ed
“so Max is acting nice so Scarlett will be his, never! I will never allow that” he punched the wall ha-rder

THE NEXT DAY
“how are you feeling, Mister” the nurse asked max
He looks weak but he was fine
“I’m better” he replied
“can I leave right away ” he asked and the doctor shook her head
“you still nee-d to get stronger before leaving ” she replied
“don’t bothered, I will be fine and I nee-d to leave here as soon as possible ” he replied
“I will insist you stay one more day but if you still want to leave, let me informed the doctor on it” she said and Max nodded and closed his eyes to get some sleep
The sound of the door woke Max from his sleep, a figured walked in and he looked up to see jeff
“wow! wow!! wow!! “he said sitting beside Max
“what a good lover boy ” Jeff said tou-ching his cheek but max held his hand
“what do you want jeff” he asked
“do you really want to know” he asked and sm-irked
“I want Scarlett and I want you out of her life” he grinned
“never Jeff, I love her and I’m re-ady to risk anything for her” he replied
“anything, ugh! ” he said ru-bbing his temple
“haven’t you done enough, scarlet will never love you, you are a ra-pist” he uttered and max sh0t his eyes, Jeff was right
He was an animal, a ra-pist
“I guess you should just back out now when you had a chance, because this might be my last warning ” Jeff said becoming serious
“Scarlett is mine, mine alone ” he grinned holding Max t©p
Max pu-ll-ed away and held him hand
“you are such a j£rk and you don’t deserve Scarlett and we both know that ” Max said
“I don’t cared about what you think, all I c@m£ here for is to warned you and I mean It, stay far away from her” he uttered and adjusting his clothes he walked out
Scarlet stared at her mum as she sleeps soundly, just one day remaining and yet no hope
She’s going to be an orphan, her father is late and now just in one day her mum will join her father
Wasn’t this too much for her
Just then the doctor walked in with a smile on his face
“Young hunter, I’m glad to say your mother had a donor” the doctor said but Scarlett looked so sad
Yes! They have a donor but the problem now is the money
“you don’t seem happy, was the problem ” the doctor asked
“doctor how will I pay the donor and then the money for the surgery ” she said staring at her mum why the doctor just gave her a smile
“the donor made it free and he alre-ady payed for the surgery ” the doctor uttered and she g@sped
Did she just hear correctly
“you don’t mean it doctor ” she said not wanting to scream
“I mean it and the surgery will commence as soon as possible ” he replied and Scarlett covered her face with her palm as she she’d tears of joy
“who’s him doctor?, who do plea-se ” she asked
“I’m sorry the person decides to remain unknown” he said
“why, I mean I just wanted to s£nd my gratitude ” she said
“that isn’t important, was more important now is to get your mum well again ” the doctor replied and she slowly nodded

Scarlet kept pacing, her mom has being in the operation room for the past two hours
Jeff walked in gro-an ing as he held his stomach, he looks pale and weak
Scarlet saw him and wondered what happened to him
“Jeff what’s wrong ?” she asked
“I’m fine, don’t worry about me, I hope your mum surgery has commenced ” he asked and Scarlett eyes wi-de-ned
How did he find out
She slowly stared at him and g@sped
“don’t tell me you are………………… ” she couldn’t finish the statement as Jeff caught her off guard
“yes scarlet, I’m the donor, I gave your mom my kidney ” he said
Scarlet couldn’t believe her eyes Jeff was truly a friend indeed

“Thanks Jeff, Thanks ” she mumbled
“it’s nothing, you know I can do anything for you to be happy ” he replied hvgging her ti-ght
