Mabel sighted Tega at her doorstep as Sandra drove in.
“Try acting like you’re okay”Sandra said parking
“I’ll try”Mabel bur-st into tears
“You’re bad at acting”Sandra sadly said cleaning Mabel’s tears.They both got down from the car.They could see Tega holding a bouquet
“Tega”Sandra greeted with a handshake
“It’s 8:30 am.Went for a jog?”He asked
“Yeah”Sandra replied
“Well since I’ve known you girls,you’ve never worn a go-wn to jog”Tega said as Sandra and Mabel looked at themselves “….and who takes a car to jog”Tega said again
“Wanna come in”Sandra said,in-serting the key to the door
“Hey”Tega greeted Mabel who ignored him and followed Sandra inside
“Look I’m so so sorry Mabel”He went on his knees following Mabel inside.Mavel say on her be-d
“Happy convocation day my love”He pres£nted the bouquet to her.She shoved it off
“What did you do.Why are you on your knees”Mabel asked him
“I didn’t come for your convocation,to wors£n it,i only s£nt a message to tell you and I hadn’t call you since yesterday.Mabel tried to un-derstand the nature of my job”
“You are a boss on your own Tega,dont you have workers you could give projects to”
“They won’t do it to my satisfaction Mabel”
“Then how will they learn,when will they learn and what will they learn”
“I’m still teaching them Mabel,they are nit good enough”
“When will they be good!when will you be satisfied with their performance”

“I’m tired of hearing that Tega.Is this how you would behave when we get married”

“You are gonna give excuse everyday about work and leave me in the house like I’m husband less”

Sandra laughed

“I’m sorry”He apologized holding her legs.He leaped forward to k!ssher
“You don’t have to keep doing that”Mabel shouted.He st©pped.She calms herself down.He doesn’t like any one to shout at him and she knew it
“I’m sorry”He said and Mabel sighed

“We are going for summer singles together”Mabel said’
“Eerhm and when is that coming up?”
“It’s in two days time but we should go tomorrow in order to get out accommodation”Mabel said.Tega drowned and kept quiet for some while
“Spill it out Tega.tell me you’re not going”
“Try to un-derstand Mabel”
“un-derstand what?”she shouted.Tega stared at her.She knew he hated when he shouts at him but he kept calm.
“Don’t shout at me Mabel”he calmed himself “you know summer singles is a one month event”
“So one month is too much for two lovers planning to get married?”
“I’ll come visit you there at my free time.Its not really far from my office.Its even gonna be great.You could come see me at my office too.You would know I’m very busy.Have I ever lied to you?”
Mabel sighed and stared at Sandra who win-ked at her
“Apology accepted”Mabel said,before she knew it Tegal-ips found hers,trying to respond thel-ips left.Tega’s magic spell.Short k!sses and it feels like it should last forever
“What time are you leaving tomorrow”Tega asked.Mabel looked at Sandra
“As early as 9:00pm”Sandra replied
“Call me when you want to leave okay?”
Mabel nodded
“I’ve got to go now”He said and waved
Mabel and Sandra waved too.He left and they sighed
“Freshen up.Today is Saturday”Sandra said.Mabel gave her a ‘what is happening’ look

“Oh”she said and pu-ll-ed off her clothes
“Who’s getting in the bathroom first”Sandra joked
“Me”Mabel replied and rushed to the bathroom pushing Sandra

Putting a lolli-pop in her mouth Jane opened the sliding door
“7seconds late”Jane said to Mabel and Sandra
“Is the boss in?”Mabel asked peeping throu-gh the door
“She went to get some recipe.Come in”Jane ushered them in.Sandra closed the door behind them
“Sign in”Jane pushed the record book to them and Mabel took a Biro to write
“Where are the others”Sandra asked.Gew girls entered the house with heavy loads [email protected] them like this,everyb©dy comported themselves The Boss was in.
“She’s here?”Jane asked whispering.Rhe girls nodded and joined Jane Sandra and Mabel where they were standing
“Give yourself a number”The woman walked in with a bag
“One”Sandra quic-kly said
“Two”Jane said too
“Three”Paula said
“Four”Mabel replied before it was too late
“Five”Sharon said
“Six”Betty lastly said
“OK.Pair yourselves.Let one take three,two take four and five take six”The woman ordered as they scattered themselves to meet their [email protected] and Paula,Jane and Mabel,Sharon and Betty
“What’s on the time table today”The woman asked.All the girls stared at themselves
“Set of dumb skull”The woman shouted.They all shifted back at that voice
“You don’t know how to cook and you still don’t know how to memorize”
“Fish and ch!ps”Mabel said raising her hands up
“Dullard”The woman shouted at Mabel.slowly she puts her hand down
“Your wedding is one month and you still don’t know how to cook. You are the dullest student I’ve ever had.How will you enjoy your marriage?”the woman barked “Well you still have one month,you could still catch up”the woman said going towards the fridge
“Eerhm Mrs Lilian…”Mabel called.The woman turned to her with her usual strict look
“Eerhm today might be my last day,cause I’m attending eerhm…Summer… singles”Mabel explained raising her hands up.Mrs Lilian stared at the six girls
“Who else is going for summer singles?”She asked
Sandra raised her hands up.Mrs Lilian scoffed
“Birds of the same feathers..”she said
“Eerhm..Mrs Lilian…I’m kinda going too”Jane replied slightly raising her hands up
“And us”Paula,Sharon and Betty raised their hands too
“Whoa whoa …”the woman cl@pped staring at them
“The only better one among you is Jane cause her brother will teach her how to cook,but the rest of you are… I don’t know.. idiots?”she asked them and they all nodded
“Get to work then”she said and sighed “We will be ma-king pasta and salmon today,the first group should chop,the second dice,the third slice while I poach.Lets go to the kitchen lazy girls”Mrs Lilian led the way

“Only that she’s hyper stupid”Sharon said and they laughed
“When are you guys going for summer singles”Betty asked
“Tomorrow”Mabel,Sandra and Jane chorused together and they laughed
“We won’t be going anyway,we will be going a week after”Paula said
“Well no problem,if you are having accommodation problem you can call us okay”Jane said.They nodded
“…and make sure you bring your school ID card along,so they would know you are from Empire”Jane said
“Sure”all if them chorused with food in their mouths
“Who’s gonna miss Mabel if she leaves Empire”Jane shouted raising her spoon
“Me”all chorused
“Well you should be happy that after we leave you would be the s£niors of the school,in your final years you would be the one slaying the boys.Hows that?”Sandra said
“Empire is gonna be boring without you guys”Jane said tou-ching Sandra and Mabel’s ear.They all smiled
Mabel looked at her wristwatch.”Time is fast spent”she said maintaining eye contact with her watch
“Don’t tell me you guys are going”Sharon said.Mabel and Sandra nodded
“You are always the first to leave.What are you doing”Betty asked
“Preparing for Mabel’s wedding of course”Sandra said
“A call from your brother”Mrs Lilian shouted as Jane hurried to the Telecom
“Hey…yeah…I’m done..when will you be here..in 3minutes?okay no problem.. thanks”she moved back to the girls
“I’ve always wanted to ask..Why is it your brother that always bring you and picks you up”Betty asked
“Cause I don’t know how to drive and I’m grounded for 2months by my mum and he has to watch me”Jane said and they all laughed
“Mabel and Sandra at least just this once.Meet my brother.”Jane urged
“When is he gonna be here”Mabel asked
“Just 3minutes to go”
“eerhm”Mabel and Sandra stared at themselves
“plea-se my brother is a very nice guy,do you know he also c@m£ to our school,he was one of your s£niors”
“I can’t remember having friends that were my s£niors”Mabel said
“But seriously I will love you to meet him he’s a really good cook”
“Mrs Lilian always says that”Sandra said
“and he is very friendly and funny,just meet him you are the only ones who have not met him”Jane said
Mabel and Sandra looked at themselves again
“Pleeeaase”Jane said
“Okay”they chorused

Jane peeped throu-gh the window and saw her brother drive into Mrs Lilian house
“He’s here”she shouted and hurried to the door.Mabel,sandra,paula,betty and Sharon stood to their feet.
Jane opened the door as her brother entered the house.Mabel and Sandra quic-kly looked at themselves and then at Jane’s brother who stared back at them in awe
“Meet my brother….”
“….Cyrus”Mabel and Sandra chorused
“Wait you know Cyrus”Jane asked
“Wait you are the daughter of ‘Maddy’s bridal sto-re'”Sandra asked and Jane nodded
“You never told us”Mabel and Sandra chorused
“So Mabel what are you doing here?I know you might have esc-rted Sandra because I know you would know how to cook.This place is not for you”Cyrus joked
“Actually…”Mabel tried to talk
“Actually Mabel is the dullest one among us here”Jane leaked.Cyrus laughed
“Come on Jane you should have said it in a more beautiful way like Mabel is an illiterate in cooking”Sandra said,Mabel gave her a face.Everyb©dy laughed
“Nice to meet you again”Cyrus said still laughing
“Just because you know how to cook doesn’t mean you should insult me”Mabel said to Cyrus
“Oh come on Mabel…”Cyrus said
“You know something Cyrus,Mabel is also coming for Summer singles,you could teach her how to cook somethings”Jane said
“You’re coming for Summer singles?Hey you are not single,its for people like us not almost married ladies like you”Cyrus said
“Whatever Cyrus.I’m totally going for summer singles”
“Hmmn.No problem then.I’ll love to teach you my magic way of cooking”He said with a charming smile
“Can we go now?I mean we only waited to see Jane’s handsome brother”Mabel said carrying her bags
“And are you disappointed”Cyrus asked
“No Cyrus.You are quite handsome too”Mabel said without looking at his face
“Should I blus-h to that?”Cyrus said and everyone laughed
“Bye Mrs Lilian”All of them chorused and took the exit.
Mrs Lilian c@m£ out. “Who’s gonna pack this plates”she shouted her lungs out

When they all got outside to Mabel and Cyrus car,they all waited
“How about Mabel and Sandra go with us together for Summer singles”Jane suggested
“Jane..”Mabel tried to talk
“Yes.Im totally in.Mabel might ask me to drive tomorrow and I’m not doing that”Sandra said
“Okay I’ll drive then”Mabel said
“Come on Mabel.Cyrus will do the driving,lets just enjoy tomorrow”Jane and Sandra gave Mabel a look of approval.Mabel stared at Cyrus.She doesn’t want to be with him for one second.Why? because he was picking on her.First at his mum’s bridal sto-re’.Now at Mrs Lilian house.Cyrus smiled at her and she frowned
“Since I’ve known Mabel.When she frowns it means a yes”Sandra said
“So does that mean it’s a yes”Jane asked
“Of course it’s a yes”Sandra shouted and all of them laughed
“8:30am well cone pick you at your hostel”Jane said “Let’s go Cyrus”she pushed Cyrus to the car.
Sandra also pushed Mabel to her own car as Paula Sharon and Betty joined them as they drove off.

Mabel stared at herself in the mirror.She had been like that for about 10minutes,checking whether there was any mistake in her dressing and make up.She wanted to look beautiful l.Looking at the mirror,she was perfect but what if the mirrors were deceiving her.Her mind went to Cyrus.
What will he think of her if he comes,if it was Tega he would surely say she was beautiful.But Cyrus was always picking on her and….
“He’s here”Sandra announced.Her heart skipped
“Who’s here”she pretended
“Jane and Cyrus”Sandra said
“Oh.they are here”Mabel said and stood up to Carry her travellers bag.O be more look at the mirror and she sighed.
She got outside to see Jane coning towards her
“Before you close the door,let me apply somel-ipstick”Jane said and she and Sandra entered inside back.Mabel walked gently with her loads towards Cyrus who kept staring at her.
When she got closer he gave her a disgust look using his eyes to rummage over her dress.She knew it there was a mistake in her dressing,she wasn’t beautiful enough,Cyrus always said the truth about something,the face he gave was really bad
“Go ahead say it, I’m ugly”Mabel said not looking at him.He laughed,she stared at him and he smiled,he then put his hand in her shoulders
“You look very beautiful Mabel”He said and gave another cute smile.He collected her bags and threw it in the trunk,collected Sandra’s too and threw it in the trunk
Mabel opened the door of the backseat and entered along with Sandra.Jane entered the front seat along with Cyrus.
“Summer singles here we come”they shouted and Cyrus started the car.It was gonna be a long and funny drive
“Tega said you should call him when you’re leaving” Sandra reminded.Mabel picked her phone and dialed Tega’s number
“Hey love”she said.The two girls and Cyrus looked at themselves and laughed
“No. I’m not driving.I actually went with a friend.Just got too tired to drive.Yeah.Where are you?.Sure.I’ll call you when I get there.Same here”she hung up,Sandra j£rked her and she smiled.Her eyes met Cyrus at the front mirror he was also smiling

The banner🚩🏁’SUMMER SINGLES’ stood out with glimmers.They were there.They all got down from the car as Cyrus as-sisted them with their bags.
They all out on their sunshades as the sun reflected slightly.Handling their bags over to them,Cyrus locked the car as they moved to the gate.They were lucky no one was on the que.They showed their ID cards and they all entered
“Block 9is free”Cyrus informed the girls “I’ll use block 10 at the guys hostel”he said as they all moved to the direction of Block 9
It was evening alre-ady,they didn’t expect people to be this much,today was just the first day.Looking at people swim,some pla-ying football,some dancing,some pla-ying pool game,some flir-ting.
This was gonna be the perfect thing for them.Fun was all they nee-ded
They saw some girls on swimming trunks pas-s them as Cyrus looked back to take a look.His eyes met Mabel’s at the back and he smiled
“I guess we would have to separate here”Cyrus said as they stood between the guys hostel and the girls hostel with only a big swimming pool demarcating the two buildings
“Thanks for your help”Sandra said and they all dep@rted

“Okay then”she said.She moved to Sandra and beat her
“Sandra wake up”she said
“Mabel plea-se leave me alone”Sandra said in the middle of her sleep
“plea-se Sandra I want to go see Tega”Mabel woke Sandra up again,but this time Sandra didn’t reply.Jane comes into the room.
“Hey you are dressed”she said
“Yeah Jane I wanna go see Tega”Mabel said
“Tega?”she asked
“Yeah,my fiancée”Mabel replied
“Oh.he lives around here?*
“No.he works around here”
“Okay”
“Wanna come with me?”Mabel asked
“Sure”Jane replied as Mabel dragged her out of the room shutting the door

Mabel drive to the ‘Tiger’s insurance company’ Tega was nicknamed Tiger by his friends.Mabel and Jane got down from their car and walked into the company.
Mabel has been there so many times and she knew the direction to Tega’s office.Jane was confused as Mabel entered each corners.She hope this was not a beautiful kidnap
At last they got to Tega’s office and they knocked
Tega who had seen them throu-gh the c@m£ra used his remote control to open the door for them.Mabel and Jane entered as Jane looked around
“Hey”Tega greeted and k!$$£d Mabel
“You’ve got a really cool office I must say”Jane complimented

“Yeah.Its definitely is.You know a bulldog cli-p?Tega asked
“Sure.its a metal device for holding papers together”Jane said with a smile
“Cool”Tega complimented nodding in affirmation
“Sir you think I wouldn’t know it.Okay what’s a ring binder used for”Jane put her elbows on his desk and asked him
“Are you kidding me?”Tega said laughing.
Jane also laughed “You haven’t answered my question”she said
“Okay A ring binder is a file for holding papers in which metal rings go throu-gh the edges of the pages holding them in place”Tags said and Jane cl@pped
“Okay.mind to tell me what a card catalog is”Jane asked again.
Tega stared at her,he was totally enjoying this conversation.Mabel felt jealous.Tega had never chat with her like this,was it because she doesn’t know anything about his business.Why did she bring Jane here in the first place.Now Tega isn’t even talking to her.Calm down Mabel,its nothing to be jealous about
“A card catalog….”Mabel tried to interfere.Jane and Tega stared at her
“Sure you don’t Wanna keep shut”Tega asked and Mabel nodded negatively

“Bah!”Tega and Jane chorused and they both laughed

“A card catalog is a box of cards with information on them arranged in alphabetical order”Tega explained to Mabel

Jane phone rings
“Hello Cyrus.we would soon be back.okay.sure”She hung up
“Welcome service for summer singles is starting in 30 minutes”Jane informed.Mabel checked her Time,it was 8:26
“You’re coming”Mabel asked Tega
“Sure”he said and she smiled.She was gonna have fun with Tega this night
“Will you guys lead the way…cause I don’t wanna get lost”Jane said and they laughed.Even Tega.
