Chapter 27
(Is this the right time to notice a rival)
Ray went after Dorris but she entered a cab before he could even catch up with her. He brou-ght out his phone, dialling her phone number but she is not answering the call. Ray knew she is really pissed and decided to wait for her to calm down first.
He saw Melinda’s call and he pick up.
“Are you busy?”, she asked.
” No”, he replied.
“Let’s eat dinner then”, she said.
Ray entered the restaurant and Melinda is already waiting.
” Sis, I’m sorry for keeping you waiting”, he said.
Melinda smiled.
“It’s okay”, she said.
Ray sat down.
” How is your girlfriend doing? “, she asked.
Ray pick up the menu.
” She’s good “, Ray simply replied. He called on the waiter.
” You look stressed. I’ve you been working overtime?”, Melinda asked.
“No. I’m just sorting some things out”, Ray replied.
” Okay. All is well”, Melinda said.
She could tell that he is in a foul mood.
After dinner, they walk out of the restaurant.
“Ray, you have to be strong. Take care of yourself better. You nee-d to be alive and healthy for you to be able to function well”, Melinda told him.
“Okay, sis. Thanks”
“Sis, you should go on dates”, Ray suddenly put in
Melinda stopped in her tracks.
” You have to move on with your life anyway. There is nothing tying you down with my brother. Just think of it as a break up and you will be able to move on quickly “, Ray said.
Melinda turn to Ray.
” Your brother didn’t break up with me and if he were alive, he wouldn’t. No matter the circu-mstances, he would have kept me by his side. I just could not move on_maybe after he fades away from my memory”, Melinda said.
Ray nods.
“I just want you to know that you’re not getting younger. If you find someone nice, go ahead and live your life. I’m sure this is what my brother will want. He will want you to shine brightly like you used to”, Ray told her.
Melinda smile.
” Ray, Thanks and take better care of your self”, she said and walk away.
Ray knew she will cry again. Her relationship with his brother is so de-ep. Ray hopes she will be able to move on quickly.
Dorris drank herself to stupor.
She can’t believe Ray lied to her. She was already in the lobby when she saw his message. She was about to leave when she saw an old school mate. The man greeted her and told her he works in the company. She had just finished talking to the man when Ray came out of the elevator.
Is Ray seeing Ava now? Before, Dorris did not mind Ava because she thought Ray is not interested in her. Who knew she was actually wrong.
Ava is beautiful, she look gorgeous, she is a fashionista and she has a good background. She was even the woman his parent chose for him. Ray and Ava are very compatible unlike her. She had no good background, no sense if fashion_she probably had but where is the money she will nee-d to be a fashionista?,and she was just an upcoming artiste.
Dorris felt bad. She didn’t know seeing Ray with another woman could make her feel this awful.
Her phone rang.
It’s guy calling.
“Guy, …….”.
Guy rushed into the bar and look around for her. He saw he in a corner. He rushed to her. “What happened, Dorris?”, he asked.
” Guy, my Guy”, Dorris said stuttering.
She’s drunk.
“Why did you drink so much, eh?”, he asked.
” I downed so many bottles. I’m becoming a drinking champion”, she drawls.
Guy shook his head.
Never give Dorris alcohol.
“Let’s get you home”, he said.
” No, I want to go and tear that bitc-h face”, she said.
Guy ignored her and carried her.
“I’m not a kid. I can walk on my own”, she said drawling.
” let me just carry you “, Guy insists.
” I want to be born rich in my next live”, she said almost in a whisper.
Ray was in front of the Dorm when he saw guy come down from a taxi with Dorris. He scooped Dorris in his arms after paying the taxi driver.
Ray knew she is drunk. She must be so sad and disappointed. That is when Ray noticed the way guy is looking at Dorris.
That gaze? Ray know it very well.
Is this the right time to notice a rival?
Ray sigh. He wanted to talk to Dorris but he knew he won’t be able to.
He got into his car and drove to De glory club after calling Harry to meet him there.
Ray walk straight to their usual private room. There are some second generation heirs there. They all stop what they are doing when the saw him.
“It’s Ray Dalton”
“Who invited him?”,another guy asked.
” isn’t this Ray?”, one of the ladies accompanying the men asked.
“So hot”, Another lady said.
” Did he want to seat with us?”,
Ray closed his eyes. He is really pissed to see the br@ts using the room.
“Vacate the room”, he told them.
” Yes, young master Dalton”, they said and begin walking out.
“Take all your trashes along!”, Ray yelled.
Ray is really vexing. He is so angry. Why did Ava have to spoil his day? He should have been in that resort with Dorris having a good time. Then he will propose to her again.
That was his plans for the day if the first snow. That is what he wanted to do.
Harry entered the room and saw Ray already drinking.
” I didn’t want to come out”, Harry sat sitting down. He pour himself a drink.
“Why would you be in a bad mood, uhn.?”, Ray asked.
” You were in a bad mood the other time and I listened to you. You have to listen to me too”, Harry said.
“Go on. I will listen”, Ray told him. Perhaps, he was too sad to argue.
” I f*¢ked up. I accuse harley of seeing a guy when she is still with me. The guy turned out to be her friend and he is married. Now, she was angry I put a eyes on her. I should not have asked someone to watch her. And come to think of it, I only did it once. What do I do?”, Harry asked.
“You’re really a loser. Your situation is better than mine”, Ray said.
” My girlfriend, my Dorris…. She saw….. She saw me with another Lady “, Ray drunk stammered and start crying.
” I will cry with you. Let’s cry together so it will be less shameful”, Harry said.

(Why should I?)
Dorris scoffed.
It’s been two days and he had not called.
That je-rk. He is probably going on dates with Ava.
Guy sat down beside her.
“What are you doing this evening? Shall we go out for dinner?”, he asked her.
” I lost my appetite”, Dorris said.
Vickey came to her.
“What happen? Are you unwell?”, she asked.
” I’m fine. I’m just tired. I want to go home, really”, she said.
“Your parents?”, Vickey asked.
” Yes. Tomorrow is my birthday. I would like to spend it with them”, Dorris said.
“You should go”, Vickey said.
” No. I am not in a good mood. I will only make them feel concerned”, Dorris replied.
“You’re missing them but you don’t want them to feel concerned about you? It will really take a while for me to un-derstand all this family issues”, Vickey said.
Dorris smiled weakly.
Toby came over.
” Babe, I got coffee”, he said.
“Are you trying to feed us dog food?”, Guy asked Toby.
“Maybe”, he said.
Harriet was in Harry’s place. She was telling him about Edmund excitedly while he packed his things in a suitcase.
” Are you sure he is not deceiving you? “, Harry asked her.
Harriet kicked him.
“Why will he? He has no reason to. Edmund likes me so much”, she said.
” Good Luck then”, Harry said.
He checked if everything is in.k
“When are you coming back from your business trip?”, Harriet asked him.
” It’s two weeks”, he replied.
“Oh! Make up with Harley before you go”, Harriet told him and walk out of his room.
Harry sigh.
How do a man apologize to a woman?
Harley came out of her office wrapped in a beige coat. She had a scarf around her ne-ck.
She saw him.
” You finally came”, she said.
Harry lic-ked his li-ps.
“I’m sorry I took so long to apologise and I’m sorry for how I spoke the other day and also for putting eyes on you”, Harry said.
Harley laughed.
“Shall we eat dinner together? Pick a good place please”, She told him.
” okay!”, Harry said.
“What will you like to eat?”, he asked her, opening the car for her.
” Any thing you chose. In as much as it is not sea food.”, Harley said.
“Okay”, Harry said.
‘What a pretty woman. So forgiving’
He should have apologized earlier.
Harriet was with Edmund in a sea food restaurant. They are waiting for their order.
” Did you say you love seafood? You will enjoy it”, Edmund told her.
“I’ve been here several times with mom. She love sea food too”, He added.
“Awnn! I have a lot of things in common with your mum”
Edmund raise a brow.
“What else do you have in common with her?”, he asked.
” I’m pretty and younger than my age”, she said.
Edmund laughed.
“Why are you laughing? Do you think I’m not pretty?”, she asked.
” Of course, you’re pretty. I’m just laughing because you’re so cute”, he said.
Harriet smiled.
The waiter brou-ght their food. Immediately Harriet smelled seafood, her body system changed. She rushed to the washroom and Edmund followed her. She threw up.
“What happened?”, Edmund asked her.
” I feel strange”, She told him.
“Are you sick?”, he asked her.
” No. I felt dizzy earlier this morning but I just wave it off”, Harriet said.
“Let’s go to the hospital”, he told her.
” No nee-d I will be fine “, she said.
” You have to listen to me Harriet”, Edmund said sternly and Harriet pouted.
She knew there is no point in convincing him.
Dorris smiled dropping her phone. She had been receiving calls since she woke up. They are all greeting her happy birthday.
Her dad, Douglas, Ashley, her mum’s sister, a whole lot of people except him.
She had not received a call from the person she was really expecting a birthday wish from.
She’s really going to break up with him if he did not call her today.
‘That’s if he has not broken up with you first’, her sub-consciousness said.
Dorris felt hurt. Had he really dumped her for Ava?
Or was he for-ced by his parents? Did he had no option? Of course, Dorris knew rich family’s could be very cruel. She use to see it in dramas. What she didn’t know is that there is more to it than in dramas.
No matter what the situation is, she really hoped he will call her today.
Ray had been busy for the past three days. He had so many things to do in the office, so many meetings to attend and so many video conference to do. He really wish his brother is still alive. Ray felt suffocated adjusting to this routines. It is taking a toll on him.
“Can you get me ra-pe flowers? “, He asked Jerome.
” I nee-d it tonight”, he added.
He knew it is Dorris birthday. He should have called her but he was afraid she’s still angry and will not pick up. He decided to text her.
The text message changed Dorris mood for better.
Murray__Babe, I’m coming over to see you tonight.
I’m sorry for the other day.
I should have come over but I’ve been so busy.
See you later
Dorris became energetic again.
She started cleaning her room. She sprayed air freshener in her room. She even dress herself up.
Immediately she heard the knock. She checked herself again in the mirror. Satisfied with herself, she opened the door.
She smiled when she saw him.
“Welcome”, She said stepping aside so that he could come inside.
” Happy birthday, Dorris”, he said and drew her in for a hu-g. “I misses you”, he said.
” Me too”, she muttered.
He released her from the hu-g and gave her the flowers.
He also gave her a key.
“For?”, she asked.
” A car”, he said.
“Car?”, she asked him dumb founded.
” why will you get me a car?”, she asked.
“Don’t worry, I will enroll you in a driving school. You will learn it within a month”, he told her.
That’s not what she meant!
” One more thing”, he said.
“What’s is that?”, she asked.
” Marry me”, he said and brou-ght open a box. The ring is so shining.
Dorris swallowed.
He said it again
“Dorris please”,he added.
” Why should I?”, She asked after a lot of silence.
