The guys seeing a cheque of 4 million naira were more than happy, before we could say JACK, they vanished probably to thank Linda husband.
“How are you feeling now? I asked Linda as we waited for them in the hospital so we can take off together.
“Mixed feelings, but I’m happy, she replied.
“Suspecting anything? I asked.
“Not really but just surprised,he has never acted that way and I can’t really place my mind on what could make him do that. But I hope he meant it when he said I’m free, she said.
“So what will you do now? Get married and have a family? You know you should start thinking about that, I said.
“I know but not now, I don’t want it to be anytime soon either. I’ll just resume with my business and live my life for a while. You know marriage is kind of stressful with lot of commitments, she said wi-nking at me and I shrugged my shoulders.
“If you say so, that means you’re not going to Enugu anymore right? I asked.
“Uhmmm I will, I’ll take that as my holiday for a week or so, then come back to Lagos, that is if you’ll let me, she replied but I only smiled.
“You know you’re always welcome and it will be my turn to treat you as my guest, same way you did to me, i said.
“Awwwwn I can’t wait, she said.
“Sister aren’t we going yet? You promised to get us wears right? Samuel c@m£ out meeting us outside and I looker at Linda.
“Yes sister when are we going? Edward added.
“Yes we were actually talking about that, Dora let’s start going, the guys will contact us when they are done, Linda said.
“Yes, only God knows when they will come back today with such excitement they left with, I added.
“So are we going now? Edward asked and a nurse was coming.
“Still here? The nurse asked.
“Ahh yes for a second, and thank you so much we will be leaving now, I replied.
“Its alright,bye sweethearts and don’t forget to apply your ointment. Make sure you remind your sister that, the nurse said tou-ching my brothers cheeks.
“We will bye, My brothers said and i went in to carry my bag while Linda carried the bag we c@m£ with which contained my few clothes and we left the hospital.
“Sister you don’t have a car? Samuel asked and i just laughed, It was a very funny question to me,
“You want sister to have a car? Linda asked and they nodded as we waited for a cab.
“We did had a car but your uncle destroyed it with our house. Now we will spend the night in a h0tel, all thanks to him, Linda replied.
“Sorry about that, Edward said.
“You’ll have a better one, Samuel added.
“Sure darling, Linda said and st©pped a cab and we got in heading to a mall to get wears for them before going to a h0tel…………..
Just leaving the mall the guys called Linda,
“Hey where are you girls? Her crush asked.
“Heading to a h0tel, she replied.
“Meeting your man there? He asked.
“What! She shouted.
“What will you be doing in a h0tel? He asked.
“We wont be staying there anymore, we left the house alre-ady, I replied.
“Then come home, we are home alre-ady just doing some cleanups which we didn’t want to disturb, he said.
“You mean home? You’re back there? I mean Is it safe? I asked.
“Sure why not? Come home joor! He replied and dropped the call.
“Let’s go then, the guys are alre-ady there, I said to Linda………..
The guys were not surprised to know Linda left her husband again, according to them, they knew it wont last. We had something to eat and left to book a flight for tomorrow trip, had a lot a talk and merry as finally everything is over.
What made me more happy was the guy dropping their profession to go into business.
They had about 2 million in the bank as their savings, and with the 4 million they can invest it into a long lasting business that will make them independent.
They also talked about changing environment as they want to turn a new leaf in life, indeed it was something to celebr@te.
That night I woke up and took my brothers bag checking the stuff all over again to be sure i left nothing behind. I alre-ady talked with Chinwe telling her the latest and the time they will take off, and she was just shouting when she heard Linda is coming with the kids.
I had to write a note for her telling her the prescriptions of my brothers drugs and how to apply the ointment.
When I was done writing the blabla…. I hissed when I remembered Linda is aware of all the prescriptions and she will be there with them, I sighed folding the paper and threw it into the waste bin.
I got up leaving the room to the sitting room where I saw Uche there alone.
“Hey, you’re not slee-ping? I asked sitting beside him and he nodded.
“Not feeling sleepy, he replied.
“Something is bothering you, what’s the problem? I asked.
“Dora its nothing, he replied.
“Hey I know its something, I insisted.
“Just thinking about how i will go back to the village, nothing is changed about me. I mean I’m still the same Uche with no achievement whatsoever, no achievement, just nothing. It makes me kind of sad, he replied and I heaved tou-ching his hand.
“Is that it? And who said you’re going back to the village as the old Uche they used to know? That’s not true, there is so much change in you so don’t worry about that, I said.
“I know you’re just saying this to cheer me up, he said.
“I mean what I just said, you’re going back Better, more enlightened and more handsome…….. And he bur-st out laughing before i could finish.
“What? Don’t tell me you’re blu-shing, I said and he just shook his head smiling.
“Seriously Dora, if that’s true then what’s keeping us? You know you make me feel i haven’t started life yet and i have to hustle more to get to your height, he said.
“You don’t mean that do you? I asked surprised with what he just said.
“Yes Dora, I love you, but you can’t love me because I’m not your kind of man, he said and I shook my head not believing him..
“Are you serious Uche? You’re not my kind of man in what way? I loved the late Benson the way he was, I wasn’t interested in his status if he had it or not, I loved him anyway and why will you be different? I asked and he got up ru-bbing His head.
“I don’t know, I felt i was not in your standard and you can’t accept me. Whenever I try to express my feelings something keep st©pping me saying you take me as a brother and all of that, i get scared i may hurt you when i spill it, i just had to keep it to myself, he replied and i slowly got up and met him.
“That’s right, I take you as brother and a best friend, I said and he was just looking at me with expecting eyes, like he wanted me to say more.
“And ermmm…… Yes I love you too, so what does that make us now? I asked and a smile lit up on his face.
“You mean….. Is that a yes? He asked.
“What yes? Did you ask me anything? I asked laughing.
“Okay okay, Dora plea-se…… Ermmm how should i put it?? Okay okay i have always loved you when you ran after me with a short dirty broom back there in the village….. He said and i bur-st out laughing hitting him pla-yfully.
“You’re kidding me right? I asked.
“Honestly, I went home wondering why you will pursue me with a broom and that made you pasted in my heart. I kept seeing your face now and then but i wasn’t re-ady for such commitment because of the nature of my work. But somehow fate brou-ght us close, still i was scared to say it out until Benson took you away from me. plea-se Dora i nee-d you in my life, now I’ve found the boldness to ask you that, plea-se don’t decline, he said and i was just smiling.
“That was quite ro-mantic though and tou-ching, i said.
“Really? Sorry I’m not that good with it so should i try again? He asked and i laughed ha-rd , i never knew Uche was such a shy type when it comes to women matters, now I un-derstand why i haven’t seen him with one.
“Gosh hell no, i replied.
“Are you saying no? He asked and i smiled.
“Yes Uchenna YES! I shouted and he happily carried me.
“Will you ever st©p stressing me in everything? I can’t believe p@rt of my dream is come true, he said holding my w@!st.
“They will keep actualizing one by one with time, i said and he k!$$£d me………….
I got up early that morning to prepare breakfast for everyone as Linda was attending to my brothers and herself in preparation for the trip..
I c@m£ out from the kitchen and met the guys sitting in the sitting room, and Uche seeing me got up and gave me a ti-ght hvg as the guys looked wondering what’s wrong with us.
Coincidentally Linda c@m£ out and met us,
“Ahhhhh make una wait fess abeg, we-tin dey happen? The funniest of my friends asked and my face was just covered on Uche che-st when i saw Linda face.
“Which kind question be that abi you don blind? Uche replied.
“I go throw you this sli-ppers o! Or make we follow go hvg am now? Linda crush asked.
“How you wan take hvg person girlfriend? Oh baby congratulations i knew it will end this way, Linda said coming for a hvg.
“Thank you, i said as we hvgged smiling.
“So you this thief you don finally carry am? You Dey craze, pretend and dullness kill you there! The guys said and bounced on Uche as we stood laughing at them.
“If you no buy us champagne eh, we go beat you black and blue today, The guys said as Uche escaped running outside laughing ha-rd at them.
“Ermmm Dora, we are most happy for this, and i can as-sure you that he’s good. Uche really cares for you and you are in a good hand, Linda crush gently said.
“Thank you, I shyly said.
“You’re welcome our wife, they said.
“Come come come and gist me how it happened, Linda said dragging me inside.
“plea-se o when we get to Enugu enough gist go plenty, because Chinwe is a tank of gist herself she will just pour it out, i said laughing.
“And we will add our own, overflowing gist be that o, Linda added and we laughed ha-rd as we got in the room.
We c@m£ out later well dressed for breakfast, as the flight was scheduled in the morning and we had just a hour and few minutes to get to the airport ………..
Uche brou-ght me back from the airport After we saw Linda and the kids off,
“I miss them alre-ady, i sadly said as we got home meeting the rest at home.
“Use this Time to rest Dora, you’ve stress yourself a lot be at peace abeg, the one who saved us said and i nodded.
“So any development about Benson and the trip? I asked.
“yee tomorrow very very early in the morning we take his corpse and take off. We will go pick his coffin later, they replied and i just heaved when the sight of how he breathed his last flashed on my head……..
