JOY’S POV
After jack left my house that faithful day of Sonia’s accident, my sister called me to inform me that Tommy had ran Sonia over with his car…I was scared, at first I didn’t know it was going to get bloody, but someone is almost dead because of our greed.
I tried calling jack severally to find out of Sonia was okay but he wouldn’t take my calls no matter how many times I tried.
So the next day Bianca called me and said
BIANCA
that son of a bi*ch gave my man a fake cheque, he went to the bank and couldn’t get any money.
What she said was no supposed to be funny, but I didn’t know why I found it funny and I laughed…. they wanted to outsmart the young man, but he proved to they he was way smarter than they could ever imagine.
BIANCA
you are laughing right? keep laughing, I am only calling you because of the blood we share…… Tommy and I are living town this evening, if you like don’t come with us…. once police come looking for us, and didn’t see us…..they will take you in our place
JOY
what? you want to travel?
BIANCA
we are going away from this country, at least we have saved enough from the money Tommy had taken from him, coupled with the ones Anderson has been giving us….. good news is, we took some landed properties docu-ment that we can sell over there.
JOY
you guys decided to be evil and wicked till the end?
BIANCA
Says someone that killed her own child without giving him a name… shut your mouth and not preach to me…..
JOY
I’m a changed person
BIANCA
once you are evil, you are evil, you can’t hide behind good deeds, because that evil you do will always follow you….but if you say have changed, then stay behind and help us pay for our crimes because I know definitely JJ would come looking for us.
She said and dropped her call, my mind wasn’t at rest, should I seat back and watch my life end before my very eyes?
why should I be the one to pay for their crimes? I wasn’t the one who came up with all this silly ideas in the first place… no, no I can’t let that happen…. I’m going to leave before they will think of getting me.
I picked my phone and called a house agent at asokoro he said I was lucky that someone just moved out yesterday.
I immediately begged for us to see so I can go see the house for myself, we met and he took me there…. I liked the house and paid for it.
I knew that place is still abuja and I might run into JJ or even someone that can link me to them one day, but I can’t just leave my life behind just like that.
it was certain that jack would never want to have anything to do with me again, so why waste my time begging or acting good when he wouldn’t think twice before sending me to prison?
I took a very big truck to his house and cleared out all his property…..he has money, I’m sure it wouldn’t take him anything to call people to replace them.
It’s been six months now that I moved out from Jack’s place, he hasn’t even called me for once to ask me why I packed his stuff, sometimes I wondered if he ever loved me.
I took my time to follow him on all the social media I know he is, but he wasn’t always active.
Back then he wasn’t the media type though, I was the one forcing him to come online.
About my sister and Tommy, I do not have any idea where they are hiding….all I know is that she calls me once in a while in a business center ….she said she doesn’t want anyone to track her and her husband down….. guess what? they did their wedding….
SONIA’S POV
one year after all that drama, everything had become normal, though I was still feeling that headache, according to doctor belle who had now become my best friend said it would soon go away after I do the surgery.
I noticed how close belle and jack became over the months so I decided to let go of my feelings for him…. if it wasn’t jack who found me and took me to the hospital, and for belle who took care of me while I was roaming as a ghost, I wouldn’t know what my life would have become by now
Their relationship wasn’t official because they didn’t tell me anything, I guess they were both hiding it from me so I wouldn’t feel jealous.
But I was sure they had already started dating…..joshua already stopped looking for love, he said he would not put himself in the front line and get hurt ever again…. he has locked up his heart and thrown the keys into the rivers.
Our closeness was still as it was before, he was already asking after my headache, and always sending the hospital money for more drugs so I don’t run out of it.
I know you guys might be wondering why I haven’t fallen in love with him over the year…. even after showing me so much care yet I didn’t love him….. how do I dare to love a man like JJ? a man that is better than me in every way, his educated, rich and handsome, I’m sure I’m not even his kind of woman that’s if he has a type…. I can’t I just can’t bring myself to hurt myself.
Loving JJ is like shooting myself on the foot, if after giving him all my love he ends up throwing it into the gutters? what will I do?
I just couldn’t do that….. I was so busy in my own head that I didn’t noticed when he entered the house.
JOSHUA
hey, are you alright?
SONIA
(I got up quickly)
good evening boss
JOSHUA
how are you?
SONIA
I’m fine, how are you sir?
JOSHUA
I’m fine, you were lost in thought seconds ago, hope you are good?
SONIA
I’m fine sir….i already made dinner, go freshen up, and cosm downstairs for dinner
JOSHUA
alright, I will join you soon.
He said and turn to leave, he walked a few steps and turn to look at me again
JOSHUA
are you sure you are okay?
SONIA
There’s this gown a saw in the market today, I like it so much but it was too expensive…I just can’t stop thinking about it.
I lied, he kept insisting if I was find? I needed to tell him something, anything, so I decided to lie to him…. he smiled and walked back to me
JOSHUA
I’m sure the dress doesn’t cost a fortune….how much is it?
SONIA
its fifty five thousand naira (55 thousand)
He smiled even more and turn to walk away again, he took a few steps and said without turning back, he stopped and said “stop stressing yourself for things that ain’t worth it, you are to fragile for that for now…..
He said and left, before I could even breath in and out an alert entered my phone….I checked it, and my mouth flew open….. he just sent me hundred thousand naira…..I felt bad though, because I wasn’t actually thinking of any dress…..if I had known he would give me that money I wouldn’t have lied in the first place

SONIA’S POV CONTINUES
The next day after doing all my house chores, which has now become just to cook and bathe myself I decided to go visit bella at her house since it was her off day.
I made her favorite dish which is salad and jollof rice, with enough pepper in it…. I packaged it very well and set to leave the house…. then I suddenly remembered the money JJ sent to me the previous night to buy a dress….what if he comes back from work and ask me to show him the dress?
I ran into my room and carried my wallet, my atm was inside of it…. I will buy a dress to show him, not an expensive one though.
I got to Bella’s house and the gate man let me in without going to tell his boss, yeah I visit the house often.
Bella ran to the door to open it, immediately she hug-ged me
BELLA
I have been starving myself since you mentioned you were bringing spicy jollof rice for me
SONIA
(I frowned)
so are you trying to say all this excitement is because of the food? and not because you miss me?
BELLA
common, it’s not like that, you know I miss you …..but the food is important too.
SONIA
okay, here is your food….since the food is also important…..maybe I should just go
She grabbed my arm and pulled me inside her house
BELLA
madam your wahala too much, even when you were a ghost, you troubled me like there was no tomorrow.
I couldn’t help but laugh, it’s funny whenever she say that, but to me it was all like a dream, but to her I was actually a ghost.
ba-rely an hour that I arrived jack too came visiting, she decided to cook something for us since she already finish eating the food I brou-ght.
She made spaghetti and chicken for us, immediately after lunch jack had to leave, he wanted to drop me at home but I wasn’t ready to go home yet so he left.
SONIA
I want to go to the shopping mall around this place, hope there stuffs isn’t too expensive?
BELLA
go girl!!!! you want to shop for me?
(she said excitedly)
SONIA
is not only shop for you, I’m going there to get just one dress to cover my lie
BELLA
they now use dress to cover up lies?
SONIA
(i laughed)
you won’t un-derstand….go change so we can leave.
She got up and headed upstairs to change, my phone started to ring, it was JJ calling
SONIA
Good afternoon sir
JOSHUA
how are you?
SONIA
I’m fine, how are you?
JOSHUA
I’m fine, it’s just that I’m very hungry….i want food
he said like someone who was about to cry and it made me giggle
SONIA
are you about to cry right now?
JOSHUA
can I cry?
SONIA
of course you can’t …..I made jollof rice before leaving the house…..would you come home and have some?
JOSHUA
I don’t want jollof ooh
SONIA
(I laughed)
what do you want then? I’m at Bella’s place but I’m about to leave right now…..i want to drop at the market before going home.
JOSHUA
oh, how is she?
SONIA
she’s fine….. so what do you want?
JOSHUA
don’t worry, I thought you are at home….I will just order for food
SONIA
like seriously? I have been here since morning….you know what? I’m heading to the market now…im going to prepare vegetable soup and poundo yam for you…wuth enough snail.
JOSHUA
oh my God, the thought of it is making me more hungry…… should I come pick you up at Bella’s?
SONIA
no, instead go home and freshen up, I will be back soon…..
He didn’t want to go home but I had to make him agree and he finally decided to go home…on a condition that I come home before 6pm
I agreed and dropped the call, immediately I dropped the call, an alert entered my phone….. I checked it, it was from JJ, immediately a text message entered too.
“buy everything you need in the market, and please come back home early…. I’m starving”
I couldn’t help but giggle, Bella stood behind me and read the text.
BELLA
are you guys dating now or what?
SONIA
it’s non of your business…..are you done? shall we?
BELLA
yes, I’m done…..let’s go
She picked her car keys and led the way, I followed from behind…. I didn’t know why her question pissed me off…..she calls me her friend yet she didn’t trust me enough to tell me she and jackjack are dating….yet she wants to know if I’m dating JJ or not….. since we are keeping things to ourselves, there’s no need to tell her anything about JJ too.
We got to the shopping mall, I bought the dress I wanted, a red short dress that is beneath me knee…. then went straight to the market to get everything I needed to make dinner.
When I finished the shopping it was just 4pm so I immediately took a taxi home.
I was surprised when I got home and didn’t see his car parked in the garage….so I went to the security office to ask Bobo if he has seen JJ
BOBO
he hasn’t come back since he left this morning…. should I help you with this? they look heavy
SONIA
thank you please.
He helped me to carry some stuffs inside, immediately I soaked the tiger nut I bought inside a very big bowl and remove the seed in my dates too….. immediately I finish doing down I started to cook my vegetables soup.
Around 6pm I was already throu-ghwith the cooking, I only needed to blend my tiger nut to make my drink.
I wondered why JJ had not codm back home after calling me ealier …I washed my hands and went into the living room to get my phone…. immediately I unlocked my pattern I saw four miss calls from him and a texi ma-ssage
“sorry, I think I will come home a little late, some client just showed up suddenly and Amanda isn’t available today to handle business on my behalf”
I checked the time, he sent the message since 5pm, I was so busy that I didn’t even know my phone has been ringing.
I went back into the kitchen, blended my tiger nut and put it in the fridge… I cleared the kitchen and headed upstairs to go take my bathe when I heard the sound of his car….. I looked at the wall clock…. it was already 7pm
I decided to wait for him to come in, before I go inside to freshen up….few minutes later he entered looking very exhausted.
SONIA
good evening, how was work today?
JOSHUA
work was fine, I’m tired and very hungry.
SONIA
go take your bathe then, I will serve your dinner.
JOSHUA
you are a life saver….thank you
SONIA
you are welcome
He walked upstairs, I followed suit too, I quickly took my bathe and wore something very simple before I went into the kitchen to serve him his dinner.
